Would your life be better if you lived in your setting?
Not necessarily.
Would it be fun to roleplay in if it was?
>>96626329Hey man, some people like escapism.
>>96626254My setting is literally just 11th century England, so no.
>>96626254>Dark SunI'd definitely be dead by my age, just not sure if it would be from exhaustion as a slave or being eaten by a desert monster of some kind
>>96626254Only if I got to be a warhammer style ogre it would be
>>96626254>RIFTSGood Lord, no, I have a house and heating and indoor toilets and warm food and absolutely no mutations or demonic invasions among any of the members of my family.
>>96626254My setting is just 3.5 but with more subtle power plays from higher-CR beings, so no, probably not. I'm also kind of an unrepentant bastard, so I'm going to the hells short of an intervention. I also score Chaotic Neutral, Neutral Evil, or Chaotic Evil on alignment tests. I'm a fisherman IRL who knows a couple of knots, so maybe I'm not completely fucked.
>>96626492I like to escape to a world where I have the power to fight back against the darkness
>>96626254Which one? The Sci-fi one yes as long as I am in the non-commie systems. Even if I wasn't a PC. For the Fantasy setting I have made. If I was a high noble and royal or PC like person. Yeah, for the most part.
>>96626254It depends on which one and also when and where I end up. Could you elaborate more than one sentence so the thread has more to work with or are you just going to abandon it
>>96626254My last therapist literally told me suicide is probably my best bet. I struggle to imagine a setting where I wouldn't be happier. Maybe some forever-war world where kindergarteners are drafted.
It depends on which one we're talking about.
>>96626254No, I would end up addicted to magical pixie dust and probably enslaved by one of the sorceresses who enjoy turning men into monsterboys and force them to fight in underwater blood sports.
>>96626254There are no jews nor shitskins in my setting so yes
>>96627770>My last therapist literally told me suicide is probably my best betMove out of Canada.
>>96627243Alright I'll bite
>>96627770>My last therapist literally told me suicide is probably my best bet.let me guess: straight white male, female therapist? they want you dead anon
>>96626254Yes, absolutely. It's modern/contemporary fantasy, and it has monster girls. I genuinely don't see any downsides to living there other than having to become religious but since the gods are real and act on the world in tangible ways instead of their faiths just being ways for mortals to manipulate others to gain power or a way for the immoral to pretend they have morality like IRL that's not so bad.
>>96626254At the very least, you can earn money by contributing your brain power to power the psychic tech/infrastructure for the same amount of money you'd get donating plasma
>>96626254Why make a setting you wouldn't want to live in?
>>96629192Because we live in a sick world where we derive pleasure from others' pain
>>96629192Because it limits the breadth of story telling. I'm sure Stephen King or Lovecraft wouldn't want to live in the worlds they make, I sure as fuck wouldn't.
>>96629235>Stephen KingAnon, Maine exists.
>>96629575So does Rhode Island
>>96629235>Lovecraft wouldn't want to live in the worlds they makeDon't know about Stephen King, but Lovecraft was already very pessimistic about our own world. For him it wouldn't make much of a difference because his world was already the real world.
>>96626254If we take a standard-style fantasy setting, the cons are numerous (worse medicine, less developed technology, traveling takes longer, lower life expectancy), but the main pro is that the afterlife is objectively real and provable, which by itself might make a standard fantasy setting better than the real world.
>>96626254It really depends on which planet or station. Earth is fragmented with lots of citystates and new territory lines drawn up after the last global war...so I'd probably be in a similar QoL if I was still in the southeastern United States. If I was off earth it really runs the gamut of paradise planets to orbital corporate megacities to new colonies on the fringes of the systems.
>>96626254Very much depends on who i am. An average joe, or something equivalent to me currently on planet earth? Hell no.
>>96626254I guess? It's a relatively utopian high biotech one after all
>>96626254No, how's that even a question?>Have life sorted out and secured enough to play games of pretend>Somehow my life would improve if I was in that pretend for realWhat a dumb fucking premise
>>96626254Only if I were a sorceress or a knight. Otherwise I’d just be a medieval peasant who also has to worry about monsters.
>>96626254Yes, because just in case I ever get isekai'd into my game world I wrote in hidden caches of wealth and magical artifacts than can make someone a god and no one will ever find them but I know exactly where to look.
>>96628687Based, same with mine
>>96626254My current setting is a lewd setting. As long as I'm still a male, yes, it would be better.
>>96626254My setting would mean giving up the internet and modern day luxuries so I'd rather not even though there is terrible baggage with the modern world.>>96627770Launch a formal complaint against that asshole. That's just terrible conduct. Unless you're like me and living in Canada then it is just the cruel reality we live in.
>>96626254>medieval fantasy setting with lots of politics and inter-nation warfareWould be worse>D&D-esque high fantasy setting with lots of monsters and supernatural dangersAbsolutely not>victorian steampunk setting with lots of occult shit, vampires, werewolves, fey and regular political fuckeryNope, also worse than real life
>>96626254Do i get to pick where and who i end up as or is it like an isekai type deal?
>>96626254I already exist in my setting. My life would be better because I'd have more personal power & success & more importantly my children are safe & strong & my wife is even hotter looking than she is now
>>96629871>HOORRDDD>HHHORRRDDDAlan Moore is a fucking hack
>>96628961For which one? Sci-fi or Fantasy?
>>96626254How much time do I get to make a self-mastubatory and power fantasy isekai before I die?
>>96626254Yes, since the year is 2260, people invented biological immortality and whole brain emulation, the economy has grown mostly continuously, and the most recent couple of wars collapsed most of the world's authoritarian regimes one way or another.
>>96626254I don't make any other kind.
I'd explain to people in this fantasy world what modernity is like and then tabletop roleplay life in small town Australia in 2025 with them.
>>96626254My setting has cute goblin girls, any risks are worth it
>>96639352Elaborating after thinking a little more: although my life would be statistically probable to be worse by measurable standards, life is more than a collection of statistics and how you take to leave this mortal coil. Even if I were "suffering" more, I could conceivably find whatever it was I was doing more fulfilling than being a NEET.
>>96626254>ProsMy fetishes are real and integral part of the world>ConsLiterally everything elseThanks, I think I will stay home
I'd have a future at least
Would being gender bent into a big titty lady knight be considered better?
>>96626254>Have a fairly normal and functional lifevs.>Ending up in a setting co-created by a vore fetishistNever let fetishists help you with the workload. Never.
>>96626254>1500s europe but with giants and elvesLol. Lmao.
