I am buying my first 40k full set, but I've already bought the starter paint set a while ago with Nuln oil and Leadbelcher so I have no problem painting the smurfs. What paints should I buy for my nids?Could be Citadel, Could be army painter, I personally dont give a shit.
>>96627643Personally I think Army Painter is a lot better these days. I tend to use AP for fantasy colours and AK interactive for more historical, everyday ones.
It might help if you mentioned the colour scheme(s) you're thinking of. One constant from the paint threads is that the ranges all have their strengths and weaknesses.
>>96627643Spray basecoat, base colour, main colour, highlight, wash
>>96628058I wanna paint them like the box art
>>96628187I would spray the Ultramarines silver and paint them with speed paint, and the Tyranids I would spray bone and do much the same. Just buy red, yellow, blue, black, purple speed paints, bone and silver primer spray, maybe a flesh tone and brown for skin and leather and bases and silver and bone for touch ups, and a bottle of agrax wash to shade everything.
>>96628187And testors dullcote, ova and green flock of course :)
>>96628458And maybe a crimson wash These minis are beginner friendlyTake your time and keep your water clean and your workspace well lit and tidy
So what paint names
>>96628187Check the warhammer painting app and see what colors they use on their nids.
>>96627643Buy whatever colors you need from whatever brands you can get locally. Paint doesnt last forever, its silly to pay for an entire range which you wont use 70% of.
>>96627643>I am buying my first 40k full setMy condolences, I hope you recover soon.
>>96627643Apple Barrel Paints for $0.50 a color for base coat. Citadel washes for shading; a black wash and brown wash will do for most minis, but if you may want a red, pink, or some weird shit specifically for your nids. Rustoleum for primer; white will be fine for most minis, but you can save yourself a lot of time by getting whatever ivory color is on most of your nids and using that as part of your base coat.If Apple Barrel paint wasn't good enough, then you wouldn't be on here asking for advice. Learn to paint. Then go spend more money on your fancy inks, mediums, and contrast paints.
>>96627643AK interactive are great general purpose acrylic paints.ArmyPainter for their washes and speedpaint medium mixed with their washes for something to make those who use enamels and oils a reason to reconsider. >mixture of AP wash and speedpaint medium in action:>https://youtu.be/ju-QfgG2guE?t=442
>>96639910>>96640088I was the first guy. I admit, this guy's wash and wash+speed medium looks really nice. Fuck the citadel wash.
