Miniatures suck, are too expensive, take too long to paint, and don't do what minis need to do in tabletop RPGs -- THEY AREN'T MODULAR.

If you start a campaign and your fighter begins with studded leather and a shortsword, you'll probably have splint by level 3 and a great-axe by level 4.

And now your miniature sucks and doesn't look like your character. So instead we need MODULAR minis - like LEGO block minifigures.

I have hundreds of cheap ripoff LEGO minifigs for my 5e 2024 D&D campaign now. They have tradeable armors, weapons, helmets, hair, pants, shields, etc. And the badguy monsters for the campaign are massive and huge (and cheap).

Pic is a $2 custom knight. If my players kill one, they can take the armor and wear it on their minifig, and now their minifigure looks completely different.

(I made a video on the topic but the mods don't want videos posted in /tg/ for some strange reason).

ngl it is heavily transcoded if you have problems with representation
In old cRPGs and other ascii games like Dwarf Fortress you are fine with your character being represented by a symbol. In paper DnD you should be fine with being represented by a miniature and a textual description that can be extracted from the stats sheet. If you really think that you NEED thousands of plastic bits to portray the gear you have, than idk what to say to you. The miniature is not there to be your character sheet, it is there to portray adjacency to other objects in space. Everything else is just visual clarity so that people do not confuse the symbols

The monsters available are even better.... and way cheaper.

This one cost me $10. It was the first monster battle for my 5e Terminator campaign that started last week.

I just want my level 5 fighter with a lance to actually have a minifig that is holding a lance.

No, that isn't "code" for anything.

>he dosen't make his own figures of of clay.
Lol. What's your excuse xirs? It's literally free just go dig it up.

>Greenstuff is cheaper than LEGO.

That's only if you get official LEGO where a crappy monifigure is $10. The off-brand stuff is like $2 for a ton of armor and custom weapons.

You can also get WH40k minifigures for around $2 each instead of the $50 that Games Workshop normally charges for their unpainted pieces of plastic.

You sound like a faggot. My minis do me very well and I got them back when they were much cheaper. Enjoy your self-imposed misery shitass.

And what happens if your character finds a new vicious warhammer? Or some half-plate demon armor? Or winged boots? Or the Hand of Vecna?

You'll still just look like an elf with the face of a homosexual monkey, with black eyes, like a doll's eyes, holding a scimitar and wearing a chain dress.

I use my imagination
It's with imagination humanity has accomplished great things. Created amazing art, build beautiful cities, loved many families. It's with imagination the world was built, and more worlds will come. If Dante can craft an entire cosmology I can imagine my little plastic guy is holding a different weapon.

I just use minis that look cool, they don't need to fit the character -that- much.
I did have some generic human woman holding a staff, used it for a female catfolk bard, just out of inspiration decided to modify a bit to add cat ears and tail, adding a bit more color and to turn the staff into a thyrsus. The process was completely unnecessary but fun.

Yes. If we all used a VTT, we'd demand that our characters can change what they are wearing and how they look. Just like when you try to put every armor on your Shadowheart just to see it on her.

Minis should be the same thing though.

That's cool and all, but as is explained in >>96632013 miniature painting is a very different hobby.

I used to like miniature painting... but it costs a lot not just in money but in time. Some of those shorts out there of people painting amazing things are awesome though.

But most of us just aren't that awesome. So I'll stick to pic related.
>>
>>96633056
I only had to buy my paints once. Miniature painting cannot be seperated from tabletop wargaming because it is literally the hobby of fighting battle games with painted model soldiers.

That was the $10 monster for session 1. There aren't really many Bionicle monster sets though. Not a big enough MOC community to sell them on the chinese knock-off sites.

Well, they aren't "official" LEGO. They cost about 10% as much and they have 10,000% more variety.

Doubt.
You seem to like shitposting more.

Eh..... I don't think I'm shitposting. I think I'm making an important point.

This picture sucks though. But yes, I used to modify all of my 2nd edition figures and add extra spikes and chains and teeth all over them.
>>
OP is being a weird faggot about this but I've always liked using LEGO(tm)(C)(don't misuse or we'll sue) for my RPG and wargames.
It's neat that there's a bunch of off-brand chink legos with lots of variety in weapons and armor. Shame that this thread is just going to be some weird trolling back and forth.

>>96631909
Just use paper tokens.
Easily replaceable, you can field an army of NPCs with little to no effort, and you can combine it with a billion different tools and whatever workflow you like. Just get a printer which is cheap to maintain and a laminator.
