Miniatures suck, are too expensive, take too long to paint, and don't do what minis need to do in tabletop RPGs -- THEY AREN'T MODULAR.If you start a campaign and your fighter begins with studded leather and a shortsword, you'll probably have splint by level 3 and a great-axe by level 4.And now your miniature sucks and doesn't look like your character. So instead we need MODULAR minis - like LEGO block minifigures. I have hundreds of cheap ripoff LEGO minifigs for my 5e 2024 D&D campaign now. They have tradeable armors, weapons, helmets, hair, pants, shields, etc. And the badguy monsters for the campaign are massive and huge (and cheap).Pic is a $2 custom knight. If my players kill one, they can take the armor and wear it on their minifig, and now their minifigure looks completely different. (I made a video on the topic but the mods don't want videos posted in /tg/ for some strange reason).
>>96631909>my miniature does not look like my character im gonna TROOON OUTTT
>>96631925>>96631909ngl it is heavily transcoded if you have problems with representationIn old cRPGs and other ascii games like Dwarf Fortress you are fine with your character being represented by a symbol. In paper DnD you should be fine with being represented by a miniature and a textual description that can be extracted from the stats sheet. If you really think that you NEED thousands of plastic bits to portray the gear you have, than idk what to say to you. The miniature is not there to be your character sheet, it is there to portray adjacency to other objects in space. Everything else is just visual clarity so that people do not confuse the symbols
>>96631925The monsters available are even better.... and way cheaper. This one cost me $10. It was the first monster battle for my 5e Terminator campaign that started last week.
>>96631925>Obsessed with the feminine penisStop it.
>>96631950Greenstuff is cheaper than LEGO
>>96631945>problems with representationI just want my level 5 fighter with a lance to actually have a minifig that is holding a lance. No, that isn't "code" for anything.
>he dosen't make his own figures of of clay.Lol. What's your excuse xirs? It's literally free just go dig it up.
>>96631962>Greenstuff is cheaper than LEGO.That's only if you get official LEGO where a crappy monifigure is $10. The off-brand stuff is like $2 for a ton of armor and custom weapons.https://youtu.be/A6cLFdTBqFQ
You can also get WH40k minifigures for around $2 each instead of the $50 that Games Workshop normally charges for their unpainted pieces of plastic.
>>96631909You sound like a faggot. My minis do me very well and I got them back when they were much cheaper. Enjoy your self-imposed misery shitass.
>>96632357And what happens if your character finds a new vicious warhammer? Or some half-plate demon armor? Or winged boots? Or the Hand of Vecna? You'll still just look like an elf with the face of a homosexual monkey, with black eyes, like a doll's eyes, holding a scimitar and wearing a chain dress.
>>96632481>And what happens if your character finds a new vicious warhammerI use my imagination It's with imagination humanity has accomplished great things. Created amazing art, build beautiful cities, loved many families. It's with imagination the world was built, and more worlds will come. If Dante can craft an entire cosmology I can imagine my little plastic guy is holding a different weapon.
>Anon is peddling slop ass sweatshop toys btwWas spending $40 for a banner ad too much for you, gaywad?
>>96632357Shaggy? what happened to you?
>>96631909I just use minis that look cool, they don't need to fit the character -that- much.I did have some generic human woman holding a staff, used it for a female catfolk bard, just out of inspiration decided to modify a bit to add cat ears and tail, adding a bit more color and to turn the staff into a thyrsus. The process was completely unnecessary but fun.
>>96631994>a druid who uses a lump of modeling clay for his miniDare I say... based?
>>96631909>Modular minis so my miniature actually resembles my avatar as they changeHow do I blame video games for this?
>>96632542His boo caught him red handed creeping with the girl next door.
Legos are pretty good as minis, i just dont like how they look>>96631965Dont take the bait
>>96632608Yes. If we all used a VTT, we'd demand that our characters can change what they are wearing and how they look. Just like when you try to put every armor on your Shadowheart just to see it on her.Minis should be the same thing though.
>>96631909Any minifig companies make good elf heads? With the ears and shit?
>>96631909Conversely: I enjoy painting more than any other part of the hobby
>>96632498>imaginationEh.... lame. It's better to look at a cool statue than to pretend one exists.
>>96633015>pretending your character is a statue I get you can't see things in your mind but damn.
>>96633015minifigs arent cool... im sorrystep up and make bionicle mocs for your campaigns
>>96632996That's cool and all, but as is explained in >>96632013 miniature painting is a very different hobby. I used to like miniature painting... but it costs a lot not just in money but in time. Some of those shorts out there of people painting amazing things are awesome though. But most of us just aren't that awesome. So I'll stick to pic related.
>>96633056I only had to buy my paints once. Miniature painting cannot be seperated from tabletop wargaming because it is literally the hobby of fighting battle games with painted model soldiers.
>>96633041See >>96631950That was the $10 monster for session 1. There aren't really many Bionicle monster sets though. Not a big enough MOC community to sell them on the chinese knock-off sites.
>>96631909...is that a goddamn LEGO???
>>96633091Well, they aren't "official" LEGO. They cost about 10% as much and they have 10,000% more variety.
>>96633056>I used to like miniature paintingDoubt. You seem to like shitposting more.
>>96633161>shitpostingEh..... I don't think I'm shitposting. I think I'm making an important point. This picture sucks though. But yes, I used to modify all of my 2nd edition figures and add extra spikes and chains and teeth all over them.
OP is being a weird faggot about this but I've always liked using LEGO(tm)(C)(don't misuse or we'll sue) for my RPG and wargames. It's neat that there's a bunch of off-brand chink legos with lots of variety in weapons and armor. Shame that this thread is just going to be some weird trolling back and forth.
>>96631909>So instead we need MODULAR minisStop infringing on my Z$1.000.000 idea, I'll sue.
>>96633119how many damage does the jade swordbreaker sword do?
>>96631909Just use paper tokens.Easily replaceable, you can field an army of NPCs with little to no effort, and you can combine it with a billion different tools and whatever workflow you like. Just get a printer which is cheap to maintain and a laminator.
>>96633215For some odd reason the MODs kept deleting this thread. They have also deleted posts in here. It seems they hate YouTube links, which makes zero sense. Are all the MODs retards or just like 3 of them?>>966332592d20+STR modifier.
>>96631909I understand the autism of wanting your mini to accurately reflect the way your character looks and what they're equipped with. It's why I liked games with character creators more than the old CRPG model of having a handful of premade portraits and generic character sprites. However, fiddling with minis and constantly fussing over how things look on the battlemap is a distraction from actually playing the fucking game.
>>96633352You're missing an important aspect here though -- when PCs see a badguy holding something, they know they can take it and put it in their inventory. When they see someone with a sword, they know they can take that sword and put it on their own character. When they see another NPC in a suit of armor, they know they can take that suit of armor and put it on.
>>96633423do your players all have aphantasia?
>>96633423Check this out:>You see an Orc brandishing a battle axeAmazing, right?
>>96633423You're really only proving the point that was made: Playing dressup with your minis is not playing the game. Not enjoying the game because you can't play dressup with every item in the game is silly and a waste of time.
>>96633460They all have hyperphantasia. The LEGO help their brains relax and stay focused.>>96632991>make good elf heads?I think I answered this and the MODs deleted it. Oh look... they just deleted more posts in here. Good job MODs.Yes, but the elf-ears are attached to hair-pieces. There aren't millions of them like with normal hair parts, but I have like 10 of them that I think are all from LOTR elf-hair parts.MODs I'm not trying to sell anything and I'm not trying to make any money. I'm trying to help people find better ways to make minis for their tabletop RPGs. Are you just butthurt because you paid $2000 for a 3D printer and now have a bunch of grey plastic piles of shame everywhere? Oh jeez... I just got a message that a MOD applied for a perma-ban for me for.... posting videos. When did that become against the rules?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6cLFdTBqFQ
>>96633525Since MODs are hunting me now for.... posting a video (which is somehow now against the rules?) here's the Japanese version.AI is freaking weird. This is hilarious to me though when it makes the LEGO mouths move. I wish I could get that to happen on the English version.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtJFYjHzCNM
>>96633541>1 subscriberI am not watching your fucking youtube channel, retard.
>>96632357>3.5 era minisBased.>>96632481OP I understand where you are coming from I really do. I used to use lego miniatures as minis but I got away from it. You have a valid point, I just .... like my minis.
