Heavy bolters on dreadnoughts are actually one of the better weapons now. Cheapest option, lost of shots, and with damage 2 as well. No clue why kheres assault cannons cost more, must still be paying for their sins in 1.0

It's pretty great. Idk what they other anons are smoking but at least with marines 1 status test even at -1 is not exactly guaranteed to work.
Havoc launchers are pretty great on rhinos for how cheap they are so it's not like you need all the status weapons on each unit but if you want something to have a status then it's a lot better to force them into taking several different tests
Either that or bring that LoW that inflicts everything on -2 with a 7" bast and just fuck whatever you want once per turn

Outside of 2.0 both chainswords and bayonets have always been only cosmetic. Chainswords always had the same stats as a basic close combat weapon outside of 2.0, and bayonets should never have gotten rules to begin with.

Effrita are so fucking nasty. took them out for their first game today and they oneshot a few termies (rolled hot and killed 4 catas in one volley) but the real BS is their debuff. Had a librarian for Fear(1) and basically nothing could escape the deluge of status effects.

I was worried when I saw they lost rerolls to wound but the ability to basically increase the average intelligence/cool roll by ~1.5 is fucking insane

They have banestrike shotties, meaning 6s to wound are ap2 and D2. A unit of ten has 20 shots at bs5 and will average almost 3 ap2 D2 wounds. I rolled 6 6's (like I said I rolled hot) and my opponent failed 4 invulns.

I had a centurion, a 20 man tactical squad, two 10 man tactical squads in rhinos, a recon squad with snipers for pinning, and a melta predator because that's the best anti-tank I got for now.

Tbh anon you kind of lost at the list building stage. The reason 1k sucks for HH is that you can't reasonably make a versatile list, leading to a much worse rock-paper-scissors experience. You picked paper and he picked scissors.
I presume you're still in the process of building your army so I would advise you to get a lot more firepower. 40 tacs is a pretty decent amount for a 3k list, get some melee and strong shooting.

It's also annoying that power swords are the same cost as lightning claws on the melee weapon chart, but claws are just power sword + an extra rule. Power swords feel pretty lame, which sucks because you get so many of the fucking things. Axes are where it's at, and I also like the lance.

Honestly I really like charnabal sabers, especially for any kind of unit champions. Like my command squad champ runs charnabal + shield, he's not going to kill a centurion but with +1 init and +2 to focus might kill an optae or something. And if you're fighting armor 2 it's just a straight upgrade over a power sword.

Power Swords are like Plasma in HH it seems-they’ve given allllll these other things, which end up being more bits they want you to buy, that fulfill the ‘armor piercing Marine killer’ those weapons have been since….yeah 2/3e maybe longer (and every goddamn book/bit of lore as well) better than them BUT because of said history they use them as filler for the boxes/art etc to say you got your monies worth.

I’ve thought about it a bit as a forever sword fan and general plasma gun enjoyer. Luckily my favorite Warhammer in general weapons are LC and PF so I’m not completely screwed for my army loadouts but still…..power sword with a plasma pistol is like quintessential 30/40k weaponry. Just goes to show how much they’ve lost touch, among the million other reasons

Suffice to say, I’m curious about these homebrew ideas and a couple already seem reasonable/ones I mulled

I've seen a couple of saturnine conversions putting claws on the fists, is there a kit that's a good source of these or is it just like leftover daemon prince bits and would be painful to acquire on a unit wide scale

I mean, they were great in 4th as well, like up until terminators got 2 wounds power swords were a reliable go to weapon.They might only wound on a 4+, but all that was stopping a 40 point terminator from dropping dead with a single power sword wound was the 5++. Now even vet tactical marines have 2 wounds and so you need to hit them with a power fist or thunder hammer to put them down.

They were 10 points (or 15 for multi wound characters) in an edition where characters had like 2-3 wounds, terminators had 1 wound, and not only did they ignore armor saves but also denied FNP. Now they're still 10 points 20 years later but are only a threat to basic bitch tactical marines.
