Just about finished the faces and I think I'll stick with the unhelmeted one. Only things I need to do now are the cloaks, cup and sword highlights and she'll be done. How's the face look? I tried to smooth out the transitions and I used a very thin purple shade to give it a tiny amount of color, but that might not show in these dogshit pictures.

How many fly riders do you normally run in the Affliction cyst battle formation? I reckon 2 are too few but 6 are much too many. My gut tells me 2 fly dudes and a lord of afflictions with a 3rd fly dude are good. I only own 10 blightkings but I can print more.

I have a semi-competitive game against a tournament KO player soon.

I don't have much experience against KO at all, what do I need to be careful of and what are their weaknesses?

Anvils of Helenhammer was okay, good alternative Stormhost to the usual posterboys but overuse of deep dives into a thesaurus for fancy words when they really didn't need to gets a little irritating. Mostly just cool to listen to a story of more gloomy SCE rather than the usual upbeat heroic types.
Skaventide was good for the new depression chamber
Soul Wars is long but good, it's based in 2nd Edition and features the now effectively defunct Sacrosanct chamber. It's weird that it spends so much time essentially showboating the new boys who are now gone but otherwise it is a decent story.

Godsbane has some good mixed Order and Chaos stuff, a little long winded especially in the first half but it picks up midway, the narrator makes the Tzaangor sound weirdly adorable which I find funny because it's probably not intentional.
Dark Harvest is great for Sylvaneth and general muddy "middle of bumfuck nowhere" vibes, absolutely better as an audibook than regular book having read/listened to both versions.
I haven't listened to the audiobook version but Prince Maesa was fantastic as a read, highly recommend as a road trip through the realms from a mortal hero PoV.

There's a few more I listened to but they were kinda meh.
First Forged for example is the closest AoS has had to a "Bolter porn" novel where it's just "AND THEN THE STORMCAST STORMCASTED ALL OVER THE PLACE" like the most middling 40k Space Marine books. It has SOME good bits but it's overshadowed by stuff like awkwardly explaining why the Old and New armours exist at the same time (With the Old armour now being all but gone it's all a bit moot) among other weirdness.

If I had to pick three;

Prince Maesa (Can't speak for audio version I just thought it was really good as a story)

Meh, gitmob has it's own identity and style, which clashes pretty damn hard with the mushroom junkies (and hangarounds) that make up most of the rest of the army. The kurnothi are just some of the tree people (being anything but out of place in between dryads and treemen) and some assorted beast-elves who do have some identity of their own, but still fit in nicely with the rets of Sylvaneth. They're all prancing around in the woods, not split between racing across the great steppes on one hand and tripping balls in some deep, dark cave on the other.
Also we really don't need to repeat the micro-faction nonsense of early AoS. A lot of armies are still suffering from the tone set back then. So just take the warcry/underworlds/whatever beastelf models, make an AoS warscroll for them, and shove them into Sylvaneth. You know, like the Twistweald, and a whole bunch of other such units in other armies.

The only shared attribute is a keyword.

whfb has a massive problem in that its map is filled in, its dates and events are all very tightly laid out, and it became increasingly difficult to add anything new without stepping on the toes of some obscure already established lore, location or event. by setting it in a less well chronicled period of time in what is technically some kind of alternate history telling, that opens them up to add new things like new units for existing armies, new armies all together, new regions to the map, and so on.
