If lasgun beam is ionization, how come there are modifications (like ones installed on long-lases) that make the beam invisible?
are there rules anywhere for improving a ship's crew rating anywhere in Rogue Trader? Am I just missing them?

There are no such rules and you can't buy Elite crew from the start either.I mean, Veterans are the single most expensive part of the shipgen, at shiny and chrome 15 SP.On the side note, the rules for buying warships ALSO never specify what kind of crew you get with them and how.You VILL have to invent houserules.
