>tq1I think cyberpunk is the only universal setting for crime, the same way sword and sorcery is the only universal setting for tomb raiding. Crime in most settings is a means to an end, or an unfortunate secondary consequence of pursuing a primary goal, or it is just because the players are by their very nature sociopathic. In cyberpunk games you aren't breaking the law because it's a barrier between you and your goals, you are breaking the law because breaking the law is your lifestyle. Whether you're on the street or in the highrises your career is "criminal". You kill, steal, lie, and cheat your way to money, power, and fame. You might follow the law occasionally because it serves your purposes, but in the end you are going to get paid by breaking all the rules. And because this is the standard mode of play, that means other social currencies are in effect. Your street cred, your professional rep, your CV, your looks. Any game can have you break into an office to steal a document, in cyberpunk you steal the document because you're a forger and known quantity as a second story guy in the community. As a result there's always something new to do. A new heist, a new gadget, a new complication, and generally the divide between rich and poor makes it so you can face off against a wide array of colourful antagonists. Your campaigns range from street trash to gangsters to mercenaries to corporate killsquads, on Monday you are escorting a rich guy to the club, on Thursday you're doing battle with an IFV. You think the biker knights posergang fit into Traveller? You think the stolen bioweapon fits DND? NO! Only in Cyberpunk! ONLY in Cyberpunk! Order now!
