>>96646681I once saw a man eat two sonic foot long hot dogs, a shit ton of french fires and mozzarella stick, and chug some milk before shitting his pants at the LGS. It's almost fitting that WOTC is just turning it int a literal fucking meme game at this point.
I hope they go fill Sci-Fi with Star Trek. I don't give a fuck anymore.
>>96646784>I hope they go fill Sci-Fi with Star Trek. I don't give a fuck anymore.Stockholm syndrome is crazy tho.
>>96646665>>96646722>>96646727When were those surveys done though? When it was just a commander set and LOTR it was one thing, when it out numbers the non UB sets thats a totally different environment.
>>96646784The art for that game looks kinda sick ngl
>>96646814https://web.archive.org/web/20221225080944/https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/space-academy-lesson-one-2007-02-26Well, it's Magic the Gathering, after all.
>>96646805>When were those surveys done though?Frequently, but they only discuss results from surveys that specifically support their goals. For example, if they want to gaslight people on how much UB is loved, they'll only cite results from the poll they did directly after Final Fantasy's launch. These types of tactics are fucking everywhere. You should fully commit yourself to spotting them everywhere they appear, refuse to believe such evil, malicious lies, and point every attempt at this style of gaslighting out to everybody at every possible chance.Any group, company, government etc., and I mean A N Y group that cites polls as a reason to push some agenda is using rigged polls. NO. EXCEPTIONS. ZERO. NO EXCEPTIONS, NOT EVEN ONE.
>>96646743Cute you think your vote matters. JOTC and Hasbro will do what makes money. They just use "survey results" to justify that.
>>96646819We polled 6,000,000 Magic players and determined all UW sets will be about Ugin having sex with Bolas, following 100% of audience feedback.

>>96646848Anon, Nicole is a girl. She's not gay.
>>96646901That's not what the numbers say!
>>96646842Hmm maybe we should try to communicate to them that certain actions won't make money, I wonder how that could be done. It sure would suck if all the communication at them indicated people loved UB and that they would make bank doing it.
>>96646897I feel like that'd suit a Secret Lair more than anything. Just reskin this as Shaggy, the token as Scooby, and the rest of the gang can be any number of things.
>>96646897Honestly probably pretty soon
>>96646653Its fine because in-universe magic is receiving more attention than ever
>>96646874I love the even earlier concept of the kithkin with normal eyes. Looks like a caveman.
>>96646917The sheer Pilpul on display is astounding.
>>96646819Do you think suits base business decisions on vibes? What the fuck do you think market research entails? Their agenda is making money, if they conduct enough polls that indicate they lose money by doing UB, they'd stop doing them.
>>96646945>Companies changing policies because of poll.Hilarious They change once they run face first into avoidable problems
>>96646917>>96646943Every time I see it, it only gets funnier
>>96646955anon, do you think they would rather lose money after making a mistake or avoid losing money by testing the waters with polling or other research?it's not hard to figure out, they really hate losing money, there's a reason they spend millions on this shit, they're risk adverse as fucklook at the recent sets of MTG and HS, there's a bunch of similar concepts because they're following the same results, they don't just pick on a whim
>>96646945When it comes specifically to creative IP-centered product lines like MTG, the primary incentive is BlackRock/Vanguard/State Street investment coercion vis-a-vis consulting firms, and the biased hiring preferences of corporate HR departments.>if they conduct enough polls that indicate they lose money by doing UB, they'd stop doing them. The point is that they could make as much money without UB. Relying on UB is an admission of their own failure. The leaders of the company are not confident in the company's own ability to cultivate a saleable IP. They do not trust the creative talent beneath them, and rightfully so, the creatives at WotC are beyond incompetent and some of least talented people to ever do it. (No shade to the contracted authors. The actual quality of literature is usually fine. I'm talking the in-house people.)Many UB sets have been total fucking dumpsterfires. But they just go on shouting and shouting that Final Fantasy was amazing! Look how good Final Fantasy sold! They're chasing the dragon. It is not sound strategy. UB Is not successful. SPECIFIC SETS from UB are, but not UB as a whole. UB ha shad as many failures as it has had successes.
>>96646917>a book and some comicsWow, we've never gotten those before! It's not like that sort of stuff used to be a baseline expectation. Not at all.>Netflix series and a movieTotally happening for real this time! Just 2 more years! Okay, maybe more like 3 years. 2030 at the latest.
>>96647009>Wow, we've never gotten those before! It's not like that sort of stuff used to be a baseline expectation. Not at all.I, for one, got a laugh out of MaRo trying to sell what used to just be freely integrated into the game in Fat Packs as some sort of selling point. As if he wasn't fucking around during that period. Did he forget or something?
>>96646995So you agree the creative team sucks. You understand WotC understands this too. And then for some reason you think they're going to double down on this failure instead of pivoting to a new strategy? Because of some shadow cabal bogeyman pushing cultural ideals? It's incredible the amount of cope people will spew to avoid the idea that rich people want to stay rich and get richer. There is no dogma outside of that. The only UB failure so far has been AC (maybe spiderman too, too soon to call), and we don't even know if it failed hard enough to lose money, it just underperformed. In contrast, we do know that FF and LOTR outsold everything by a mile and then some, it's no surprise the suits are willing to do more UB sets. They could probably push out 10 nonprofitable UB sets for every FF/LTR and still come out on top compared to UW.
>>96647027>So you agree the creative team sucks. You understand WotC understands this too. And then for some reason you think they're going to double down on this failure instead of pivoting to a new strategy? You say this as if pivoting to the worst fucking possible idea they could have ever come up with that is UB is somehow the only other strategy available to them.
>>96647038What exactly do you think those alternatives are? They are clearly making money off UB. To divert course, you'd need to convince them they'd make more money with some other option.
>>96647009Yeah bragging about one book and a comic series is hilarious when you used to get a whole novel or at least a preview in fatpacks. Granted, the writing quality was all over the place. The shadowmoor anthology was pretty great. Other stories? Well…
>>96646917Seriously when i read this blatant bunch of lies and condescending remarks i feel actually mad. How the fuck can you straight lie on the face of your playerbase, shit on them without even asking and then almost like joking say you are actually working harder than ever to keep the game within in universe because you made a bunch of garbage nobody cares about? I wish this had actual consequences for this bastards…
>>96647047Test of Metal being retconned to an actual fever dream is still pretty funny.
>>96647027>They could probably push out 10 nonprofitable UB sets for every FF/LTR and still come out on top compared to UW.FF and LTR did really good, but there's no need to get hyperbolic. If WotC pushed out 10 unprofitable sets for every big success, they'd be completely fucked. The stockholders don't have that kind of patience to wait for that. Heads would roll if you got more than 2 flops in a row, let alone motherfucking 10.
>>96647046>What exactly do you think those alternatives are?Not digging yourself into a pit with trash soft lore resets several times would be a good place to start. But if you were dumb enough to already do that?Hire better people is the obvious one. If the problem is incompetence within the chain of command, you get rid of the incompetent people. You don't promote those stupid losers while simultaneously cannibalizing your IP and selling it out to whatever foreign corporation wants to pound its rectum next.Other options are to downsize and restructure so you can get a handle on product cycles again. Or, oh, I don't know, not being a materialist retard hellbent on incinerating every possible thing you can touch just for the sake of having one more penny land in your pocket? That might be a good place to start.>To divert course, you'd need to convince them they'd make more moneyQuiet your materialist bullshit. This kind of fanatic devotion to sacrificing culture at the altar of profit is why the world is dying a slow set of a thousand new deaths every day.

>>96647106>>96647115THEY TURNED QUARK INTO A BIPOC
I’ve been slowly offloading my collection to people on TCGplayer, which has overall been a fine experience. But every so often, I get some psycho who orders 20+ chaff cards and loses his mind at the hypothetical damage I’ve done to his cards because I didn’t put every single one in it’s own top loader and send the entire thing in twelve layers of bubble wrap. Picrel is up there with the guy who blew up my inbox because the single drossforge bridge he ordered had a small roller line in the corner and was therefore not “near mint,” and I refunded him instead of sending him a replacement.
>>96647185Seems we'll have to agree to disagree, which is fine. I do want to say though, at no point in my posts did I ever say their actions were a good thing or that I liked them. I'm simply pointing out why they did it, because deluding ourselves about the situation we're in is a losing strategy.
>>96647188You are literally 100% of what is wrong with TCGplayer, STOP BEING A BAD SHIPPER
>>96647087I need to know in Magic who are “the pigs” specifically?

>>96647234AH BLU BLU BLU, MY JOB IS HARD >this is you
>>96646009Oh yeah, some level of levity's definitely necessary. It's just that Duskmourn is too deep into the levity and it comes off as subverting its own intent. A sense of whimsy is good and should be cultivated, but not to the point of removing any gravity from the setting. Basically: if the guys making the plane don't want to take it seriously, why would I?
>>96647245I didn’t say it was hard, and it ain’t my job. You just get what you pay for. And 25 pyknites gets you penny sleeves and scotch tape on a top loader.
>>96647252>Basically: if the guys making the plane don't want to take it seriously, why would I?A reasonable take. Diagetic levity is always fine.nuMagic comedy almost always takes the form of 4th-wall breaks though. All the cringiest flavor text / lore of the past fell into this category. And those moments are remembered as shit for a reason.
>>96647261Tell us what you charge for shipping (you won't)
>>96647269Free over five dollars, 1.31 below that, which is the minimum TCGplayer allows.Shipping costs on TCGplayer are an illusion in the first place. Your listings are nearly always going to be prioritized by lowest price + shipping, so you either roll shipping into your price or lower your price to compensate shipping. It’s kind of funny how much TCGplayer prices are taken as gospel for in-person trades given that if the model permitted shipping costs to actually reflect a specific shipping method, they’d all probably be higher.

>>96647415You need to understand that these decisions were made in advance. They didn't "test the water" this year. They knew they were gonna shove this shit down the players' throat, but to boil the frog slowly they need to cut it down a notch for 1 year. There was no plan to see player feedback at all.Now think about it this way, Lorwyn was pushed to next year for Spiderman, which was meant to be a small set, so chances are it was not meant to be a 3:4 ratio of in universe:out universe for 2027, it might have been 2:4. Yes, twice as many UBs as in universe sets.
I quit MTG officially anons. I started in Khans and had a lot of fun with Modern when GDS was at it's best right before 2019 hit. I guess I've been done for well over a year, but everything is actually all sold off now. It feels good

>>96647428On a lot of cards the LP price is actually higher because most people don’t actually bother buying NM cards and most sellers don’t even bother listing at NM for shit under $20 to avoid people like this. If they come in swinging and don’t back down I just block them and tell TCGplayer to take down whatever negative review they leave since they can see the messages where they sperg out.

>considering mainboarding Runed Halo as a "removal" spell that can fight Belcher alongside GSZ for Collector OupheSomeone quick convince me this is terrible before I sleeve them up a better option in GW would be nice. Other than "just kill them first, dummy."
I'm not quitting magic but I have noticed I have reduced my spending in the game by a significant amount. I think I will still play EDH and buy some singles here and there but I don't have the urge to buy boxes anymore. I am kinda excited for some of the cards in Lorwyn, especially bitterblossom on a stick and the new changeling stuff for my 5c changeling deck!I am thinking about playing a ton of Riftbound tho cause I liked league, I know crazy but I had good memories of the game playing with my friends in highschool and college. I tried the demo for it this weekend and it seems like a ton of fun to play 4 player!
>>96647483Runed halo is one of my favorite cards ever so please do it for the love of the game
>>96647456>>96647415NTA thats why I asked early when the surveys they had about UB were conducted. I was mostly neutral when it was just commander sets, something relatively ignorable if I dont like the IP. But in a very short period of time they went from just commander sets to taking over standard entirely so id have a very different response if someone asked me a identical question on them nowIts two entirely different scenarios and questions.
>>96647483>Someone quick convince me this is terrible before I sleeve them up a better option in GW would be nice. Other than "just kill them first, dummy."Runed Halo is an extremely good card that solves more problems than you expect, but also fails completely against a lot of things you don't expect. Would recommend, but maybe only as a 2-of.
>>96647499>Its two entirely different scenarios and questions.A good point.Another problem is the surveys they are referencing were all likely conducted after UB was introduced into the game. If you polled players from prior to its entrance, results would likely show a near-100% skew against UB.The only players who like UB are people who got into Magic from UB. I have never met or encountered an exception.

It's the exact same logic as "if humans evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys?". Some animals mutating into beasties doesn't mean all animals mutated into beasties, in the same way that some humans turning into razorkin doesn't mean all humans turned into razorkin, some humans turning into zombies doesn't mean all humans turned into zombies, some furniture and other household objects turning into monsters doesn't mean all furniture and household objects turned into monsters, etc. You can have both. Evolution and mutation aren't magical forces that immediately convert all members of a species into a new species.
