ss13 was never a good game. It was entirely reliant on the playerbase to spin stinking shit into shiny gold yarn. People have been chasing the original high the game used to give them for decades, trying to recapture that sense of wonder and discovery as they learned how a shitty, glitchy, laggy game worked. But then they metagamed the fun out of it. Then the coders took out all the fun things to try and stop them, punishing the players who weren't greytiders.
The playerbase (and adminbase) has changed. The seventeen different forks of the original code have triple over-fucked the entire codebase. Unfortunately, the problem with a lot of SS13 servers is that they have a pretty in-depth ruleset, which means that trying to talk to someone about not being a shitass will usually result in them rules-lawyering to hell and back to avoid admitting that screaming flavour of the month memes over comms is fucking with the immersion and annoying as hell.

Then there's the opposite problem where a server that relies on admin judgement can be prone to cliques and metagangs and what have you.

There's probably some sort of happy middle ground. OP would still be banned in that scenario for being a pissbaby though.

Sometimes you luck out and get a bunch of individuals who know how to play well, or are willing to shut up and learn, but who also know not to be whiny bitches if the game doesn't go their way.
