What was the best faction reveal, not in terms of actual models, but the general show GW did around it?

Lumineth was the absolute worst but only because I'm not counting sigmarines
followed by kruleboys but simply because noone was expecting them, not even in a "I didn't know I wanted them" way

Kharadron used kino music
Ossiarchs and behematids were both pretty cool and atmospheric and the few that actually tried and succeeded at building hype
idoneth was good until the reveal of the namarti, the faction will never recover from that choice

the others I can hardly consider new factions
>>
>>96669692
They're having record profits, that means they have to cut costs and raise prices.

Did tzeetcnh ever really get a trailer? I think there was one for the khadrons versus box but aside from that I cant recall anything else.
>>
>>96669887
Oh shit anon thanks a bunch
Why'd gw unlist all this stuff anyway? Some legal reasons?
>>
>>96669898
I dunno gw is just weird. Maybe theyll just reuse it later and hope people forget about it until then.
Or maybe the more malicious answer is that they dont want to have ties to old artists and what not. They pretty much removed all of that one prominent painters vids from youtube, duncan is his name I think? I dunno.
>>
>>96669898
I think it's just retards justifying their useless social media possitions by "cleaning up"
>>
>>96669887
>Did tzeetcnh ever really get a trailer?
No, I don't think so. Not a voiced one in any case. Obviously the box contents were featured in the Aether War trailer from 2e, but that's all I can think.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0XzqXVKwLM
>>
>>96669898
Might have something to do with their overhaul of their web domain. IIRC their news article archive was also purged along with the rollout of the new site. I doubt it's an unfixable problem with the old embeds or anything, so I'd guess it's a policy decision they made, but I couldn't begin to guess why they'd make such a decision.
>>
>>96669887
tzeentch hasnt really ever gotten a wave during age of sigmar i dont think. if i remember right all their range is end times and before, kinda like maggotkin
>>
>>96669952
the only plastic things tzeentch had before aos were pink horrors, screamers, flamers and the chariot

in aos they featured in silver tower, getting etb versions of kairic, tzaangors, blue and brimstone horrors, a pink herald, and the gaunt summoner and traumaturge
then they got the actual wave of models with the battletome: lord of change, multipart tzaangors, multipart kairic, full kit for blue and brimstone horrors, tzaangors on disc and tzaangor shaman on disc
>>
I think we should get a big fat "Yellow Horror" model for Tzeentch who is the size of an Ogre.
Also a named Screamer like Karanak.
And while Nurgle cultists are all fat and Khorne cultists are all swole, Tzeentch cultists should be all gaunt and anorexic.
>>
>>96670053
nah. kairirics are what drew me into the faction.
>>
>>96670053
brimstone horrors are already the yellow ones
clearly the missing colors are green, red and deep blue
red gotta be the fast one, perhaps a hound-equivalent, green fits as the hulking monstrous infantry, while dark blue is the most fitting for a truly big centerpiece model
>>
>>96669952
Nah tzaangors, kairics and a bunch of other stuff got added in early 1st edition.
>>96670053
The yellow Horror idea is pretty funny I'll admit. Priority for tzeentch should probably be to upgrade all the old flamers and whatnot, new pink horrors, some chosen equivalent like blight kings or painbringers. Should help them out. Monogod armies don't have marines tacked onto them so they need some serious attention to actually be popular. So far only really nurgle and mayyyybe khorne succeed on that front. not like I'm pointing fingers or anything, I play idoneth
>>
>>96670094
Flamers are perfect, what are you on about?
>>
>>96670090
Make it so brimstons horrors if they survive long enough to grow in size can cool off and become big orange horrors or something. Then when they die they split into pink horrors and the cycle begins anew.
>>
I don't hate the Tzeentch range, per se, but the DoT is my least favourite of all the Chaos factions so it would take a MAJOR refresh to make me wanna play 'em.
>>
>>96670156
Tzeentch range is probably the most neglected in general but yeah the daemons are horribly outdated and exceptionally neglected, which is a fucking insult knowing that Tzeentch is one of the most creative chaos Gods you can work with sculpt wise
But oh well, better add more Nurgle stuff instead!
>>
>>96670185
>But oh well, better add more Nurgle stuff instead!
I'm totally fine with this honestly.
>>

Nurgle and tzeentch have gotten about the same amount of releases during aos. Greater daemon, a couple pity heroes, and a warcry team.

That's all either of them have received, idk where you keep getting this idea that nurgle has gotten a ton of attention in aos. It hasnt

3e - 4e do not

big ush is probably the most likely winner imo. Maybe the new zombie dragon can mount a challenge but I kinda doubt it. My pick was the eidolon, probably my favourite model is aos.
>>
>>96670449
katakros was robbed of the title of model of the year when he was released by 40kids, he has to win this one.
>>
>>96670509
I still wonder why GW refuses to give tzeentch generic armored warriors. Nurgle's about to get some and even then that's still not out for guarantee yet. I just wonder what mental roadblock is preventing them from putting something out there.

>>
>>96670879
The HoH dudes look fun to paint. Layered details but with rigid lines for ease of painting, feels like it could be soothing to work on.
>>
>>96670893
They definitely are. Not too much trim or little knicknacks to make the detail work unfun. They take to metals extremely well and if you're not doing metals youve got really sharp edges for easy highlights. Would be a great beginner army, save for maybe the flames on bigger models and their wizards.
>>
>lvo down 200 players vs early 2025, kill team has more registered
seems like a pretty huge drop, what is the reason?
>>
>>96670963
Down 200 from where? Seems pretty steep though. I don't know where I saw it but I remember someone stating that aos' tournament scene is trending towards more smaller events instead of fewer but larger events.
>>
>>96670995
they pulled the old events off bcp but it was 300 and some change in early 2025, 360 in 2024, and 330 in 2023.

The number of max tickets was also for 196. I don't keep up on the tournament scene so I legitmately don't know if something changed as far as LVO's way they handle the events so meant it as a non-loaded question.

If it is because of lack of interest I hope that inspires more creative takes on tomes and a trend back toward more flavor in the game.

I will die on the cliff Lady Olynder is one of the best current GAD models because she can still hold the title of a big centerpiece named character model while being extremely customizable and fashionable in ways that don't particularly hurt homebrew armies with original anmed characters while also going well eith a fuck load of color schemes even more so than the official one

>>
>>96672189
I would stop with the be sheets and move more into the partially solid at their torso and head, partially smoke or gas at their extremities. They could also design them to be more like they're made of gas or ectoplasm instead of being skeletons wearing sheets. If they didn't want to move completely away from the human aspect they could do something like the Grudge ghost with hair covering the face, or fancy aristocrats dressed in nice clothes with face missing floating off the ground. Probably too eastern inspired for GW, but something like a Jiang Shi would be cool, even if just for a small unit in underworlds or something. There's a lot of options for ghosts and while I don't hate some of them being bedsheet ghosts, I think it sucks that basically all of them are.

I'd rather they go harder on the imprisonment and torture aspect of things. Massed cages of spirits all scrambling around like that one dark souls 3 enemy, electro ghosts still in the chair that zap people, fuck it have cavalry riding hobby horses and the ghosts are split in 2, just go crazy with it.
>>
>>96672370
I like the torture idea, but the hobby horse would look too much like a kids toy horse. They already did a good job with ghost horse on black coach, they should stick to that.

Could just have a spectral horse with some elaborate triangular spikey bit with split riders on top, maybe each has a different weapon like flail in one hand sword in the other

What are your hopes and expectations for a helsmith wave 2?
Llamasus seem to be fairly heavily hinted at, a new take on their slayer/ironsworn thing seems logical, and then maybe a tauruk character and some different Artillery options. Now I'd like to see some oldhammer shit return like the bazooka and petard, but that's probably a bit less likely.

Thinking about starting a "small" army of Nighthaunt, but I'm worried that they might be too wobbly and fragile for my massive ape hands.

They're not too bad, honestly I'm a bit rough with them at times and they hold up decently. There's a few specific bits though you should watch out for (a couple specific chainrasps, those stupid ghosts on the side of olynder, etc etc) but otherwise they do fine. They're decently fine to put together a few units are still just push fit, don't buy glaivewraiths as they're going away, hexwraiths will probably get updated at some point, and like 3 of our melee infantry effectively are just slightly more elite things that all do about the same output with slightly different abilities and cost.

Black Coaches are fucking great right now and a cool model, there's too many heroes so try to just pick one or two of the big ones or see if you can get an old soul wars hero set cheap.
>>
>>96673027
Kinda fucked up that the Black Coach carries a vampire yet it's Nighthaunt.

That and the fact that it's newer as well as being solely tabletop fans.

>>
>>96673508
GW uses battalions/box bundles as ways to clear old inventory before a refresh. Not every box is a stock clearance tactic, and the ones that are tend to be done a year or two before the actual planned refresh so people don’t feel like they were baited and switched.
>>
>>96673588
If it happens it'll probably be in a decade or so. Ca needs money because of their huge hyenas fuckup and 40k is guaranteed to print money if done halfway competently. Doesn't even have to be good, it just has to be not garbage.
Aos meanwhile is much more of a gamble because of fantasy fatigue + 10 years of grog seething making aos very polarizing even among the total war fans who have never even so much as looked at a tabletop mini. I'd say it needs a bit more time in the oven to flesh out some factions (idk, dok, fyreslayers, ...) anyway.
>>
>>96673742
>Ca needs money because of their huge hyenas fuckup

Kinda? I feel like they've been on a decent path and made some cash back, I think it's more good will they're consistently lacking. Sega's in a solid spot right now and taking full advantage so you're right it might be 40k first then I might see AOS total war when I'm like... 40 or some shit.

The funny thing is it would be an easy transition in some cases because you could totally just update some assets and reuse them between games.
>>
>>96673588
Same. But they could do the same thing.
Have 3 games, each expands out. Obviously more than fucking that AoS game.
With 3 your would have minimum of 1 per GA in every single game. Destruction and death would each get 2 in one game.
There's 9 order so 3 per game. 7 chaos so 2 per game.

So each game you would be looking at 7 factions minimum, so an actual good variety

Bold of you to assume they'd bother updating assets. They've barely made any model or texture updates to game one factions, so the difference between them and new models in game 3 is crazy noticeable. Even within the same race if that race got DLC, like the Wood Elves.

I think warcry is going to come back, but I don't think they expected it to take off the way it did. The products at first ed warcry were going out of stock pretty quickly, while underworlds stuff has always shelfwarmed until the end of their edition and then is snapped up for aos conversions. I think they really wanted underworlds to take off, likely due to the lower cost for them. They also have the problem of releasing too many skirmish sized rulesets for aos since aos1. We had skirmish, path to glory, warcry, underworlds, and now we have spearhead. I think they likely weren't sure about keeping underworlds, warcry, and spearhead all around at once and we're trying to convince people to drop warcry for their cheaper game.

While trademarking is no doubt important, I think they went with that name because Helsmiths of Hashut does good job communicating what they're about. They're smiths who control demons and worship a bull god. "Chaos dwarves" doesn't really communicate the faction concept as well, even though they were very similair in the old world.
>>
>>96676336
you don't need to do all that shit to get a similair looking end result, you get maybe 3-4 colors, you mix them and dry brush appropriately and you'd have good looking skin. I wish I saved the video, but I saw a great step by step video of a british guy slap chopping kroxigors and he did nearly the same color scheme and it look great without needing to buy 20 citadel paints or spend 10 hours on one model.
>>
>>96676336
someone who is at the skill level of "how do i paint like this" is probably not going to be up to the task of doing 15 different blended glaze coats evenly across something the size of a football. glazes across large surfaces with mixed colors doing a blend on a foot tall dragon model is an insane ask for a newer painter
>>
>>96676364
Having a good looking skin isn't what you asked. Having a similar looking end result isnt what you asked. You said how do I replicate this. Yes you can make things look good with simple schemes, but box art gw schemes are seldom simple. Asking how to do something, and then complaining when it's too much work, and then asking the person to go through all the effort of completely reverse engineering someone's paint scheme for someone at a lower skill level and give a similar result is an utterly ridiculous thing to do and expect. Also if ten hours is too much for you, I would start looking towards smaller ones, because you aren't going to get the result you seem to be expecting fir the amount of effort you're willing to put forward
>>
>>96676382
So ask the question properly if you're not skilled, or a beginner. All that needs to said is "how would you paint this at a beginner level" which is a distinctly different question to "how was this painted"
>>

before you go smearing the OP who asked the question, im not him. dont get on his case, he's not the one arguing with you about this.

second, i wasnt criticizing your posting of the paint scheme. you are technically correct, that is how it was painted and that is their article on it. that doesnt change the fact that it is a paint scheme so difficult and on such a large model that its masochistic. trying to maintain even glaze coats with several mixed colors across a foot of open flesh model is obscene, that would be a difficult task even for an experienced painter.

If you ask how to replicate some thing you are asking for the steps that lead to that final product. If you were asking how to replicate something in a simple way, that is a different question. Asking how KFC makes their chicken isn't the same as asking how a beginner should fry chicken. One will get you the recipe and steps to recreate kfcs fried chicken using all of their processed ingredients, batter additives, commerical equipment etc, the other will get you beginner friendly recipes with ingredients you probably already have, using tools your home cook has access to. It's fine to admit where you are at in terms of skill level I'm a hobby. It's not reasonable to expect someone to go back through someone else's paintscheme, and break it down for you using less materials, based off nothing but memory or their own experiences, which arent necessarily the same experiences that pro painter has. It's just asking a lot of someone who isn't the person who developed the scheme, and even if you were asking the one who developed the scheme, it's hard to ask someone to remove the steps they felt they needed to get that product. In the artists eyes, all those steps are necessary to achieve that product, and they don't know which parts of that final product t that you are willing to compromise on, and which parts you need to remain the same to still enjoy it.

Introducing a changing status quo without thinking it over. 40k did it with Primaris. The surgery for a regular Marine to become a Primaris one is extremely risky, with like 10% chance of succes, but somehow every named character goes through the procedure successfully. DnD did this when they advanced the timeline for the 4th edition for 200 (?) years. Every DnD writer then went out of their way to explain why their characters are still around.

Did the UW writers start phoning it in for 2e? Embergard was just a random mineshaft, Spitewood sounds like it's literally just Gnarlwood with more aelves prancing around. They don't have the appeal of the weirder corners of the setting explored in the previous edition. They're even recycling warband themes with Kurnoth's Heralds. I mean the game started with a haunted city that god tossed into space, and from there it went into a living mountain that was home to a forgotten civilization of bug people, and then it went into an underwater labyrinth home to living shadows, and so on. It's so disappointing.
>>
I had an idea to throw a Loreseeker onto the middle of my upcoming KO opponent's home objective during deployment and hopefully get his big guns into combat then force 1st turn on him to try to nullify his first charge/shooting phases.

I have not heard of a single instance of this happening, unless you mean detained by TSA at the airport, in which case join the club. I'm white and I've been stopped and frisked by them more times than not. I've heard plenty of instances of American tourists being harassed in Spain and other places, haven't seen that happening here.
>>
>>96677824
At the time I was mostly critical of it as an UW setting because it felt too similar to Beastgrave/Direchasm. As a woodland it also didn't have the flavor of a proper dungeon which is what I'd come to associate with the game. But I think it's fair to admit that Wyrdhollow amended this somewhat. Deathgorge/Wintermaw did have some fun stuff going for it. But then Embergard rolled out and was just the most boring backdrop to date.

>>
>>96677816
>They're even recycling warband themes with Kurnoth's Heralds.
I can tell you, in this case I'd have liked to see that the writing come before the model production.

The Spitewood fluff mentions stuff that a sculptor could have turned into warbands if the creative process had started with the writing. For example, a big point of focus is Syr Edris, a big ass tree at the heart of the forest, believed to be the engine of the Spitewood's growth and a symbol of Kurnoth's rebirth. The tree is said to stand on the precise spot where Kurnoth fell. When Alarielle executed her Rite of Life, soul pods long buried in the earth where Syr Edris sprouted produced antlered behemoths made of roots and vines who took up hunting horns and set to work. Dryads gather to pray at great idols they believe stand sentinel over the forest. Spites nest within the trees to spy on and defend against intruders in the woods.

So there are allusions to stuff there that we haven't seen before. Specifically stuff that clearly align with the same army that the new warband does. But instead of getting models for any of that we got Skaeth's Wild Hunt again.

Eh, you can only do so much with an Underworlds Warband. I think being a solid upgrade from Skaeths Wild Hunt is good enough. But I say from the perspective of someone who fully expects a Kurnothi subfaction to be released eventually which is where the real models will come from.

They LITERALLY have a unit called the Arch-Knight you dickblister.

Any KO anons here to provide some insight, I got a local guy here selling an ironclad, the old start collecting and Brokk Grungsson for like 180. Is that a decent deal?

Miniature.

They're not nobles or chivalric, they're veteran survivors who have collected enough loot to be horsemen, but yeah that's one unit. Just the general theme of cities is more grimderp trenchshit I guess

What's a flavorful list for Tempest's Eye in 4th edition?

what currency? the ironclad alone is like 150 burgerbucks, so probably yeah, if there's no issues with the kits it seems like an alright deal.
