When did you realise that Yu-Gi-Oh has officially become a better game than Magic without actually putting in any effort?
>>96670152All yu gi oh had to do, really, was not put spider man on its cards, and it won by default. Also still prioritizing the actual 1v1 core game helps.
I wish its asthetics didn’t revolve around waifus so much. Like, I love lady labyrinth. But fucking snake eyes revolved around a generic anime lady.
About the same time I realized all TCGs are shit.
>>96670152Strixhaven. I completely stopped buying MtG after Kaldheim. Pajeet drivers were ridiculous but not!HarryPotter was the last drop. Ygo had lost me with MR4, but the rollback was welcome, and playing modern yugioh feels like mtg mostly without what mtg calls combos. >>96670160Also this, but for dr. who. I felt a particularly strong sense of schadenfreude when the professor at tolarian community college was crying about final fantasy, considering he gladly bought into dr. who.
>>96670152The Kang of the Rangz set.
>>96670176Why though? Why can't people that like big anime tiddies have a card game? You've got plenty of other... stuff... in games like mtg, lorcana, or whatever
>>96670572I want my duel monsters to have monsters in em. The most meta decks for the past 10 years have been something along the line of sky strikers or branded.
>>96670572Because older cards where mostly like creepy occult monsters and weird critters. You had the occasional pretty girl card (Dark Magician Girl, Mystical Elf etc) but they have a very different aesthetic compared to the lolis that you see in current Yugioh.
>>96670152>yugiohHas Skull Servants>mtgHas no Skull ServantsWhy would I ever play the worse game
>>96670657TRUE
>>96670152Black Magician > Black Gandalf
>>96670204This. It's either my bullshit goes off or your bullshit goes off. Whatever happened to back and forth gameplay?
>>96670612To be fair occult monsters still exist like D/D/D got some new support recently, we probably get more non waifu archetypes than people belive
>>96670694Oh yeah, definitely. It's not like the whole game is just lolis now or anything but I do also feel like some people have the misconception that lolis is traditional to the game because it's always been anime and that means lolis. There's a reason why a lot of yugi-boomers don't really like the waifu cards but are fine with Dark Magician Girl and Harpie Ladies.
Post it
>>96670572>Why can't people that like big anime tiddies have a card game?you guys already have games like that, Build Divide, Shadowverse, Wixoss, Vanguard, etc., and like >>96670612 said Yu-Gi-Oh's main aesthetic was originally weird occult monsters with an occasional waifuthe focus on waifus and generic big strong dragon/robots makes YGO seem like a generic game as opposed to how the style used to be
>>96670715I think another reason is that the artstyle changed from this more grounded and shaded artstyle into a more generic anime one
>>96670152Edison Format Ygo is fun.
>>96670152Yugioh is mechanically a worse game though. No resource management and it's basically just a race to see who can turn both player's turns into their turn first.
>>96670152Mtg is definitely the better designered game but i would much prefer to play ygo now than fortnite the card game.
>>96670160the loli and mechas are so much better/the food though
>>96670152I love Yu-Gi-Oh!, but it's a hot mess of a game. It didn't sell its soul the same way that Magic did, waving the greed and rotting integrity in front of our faces, that much is true. But it's been apparent for far longer that Konami really doesn't give a shit about curating a good game, because they too are extremely greedy.Pretty much every card game that I've ever played (that lived) suffers from power creep and complexity issues. In no other game that I've played has had the power creep warp the way the game is played and approached harder than it has to YGO.
>>96670152I can't speak to the actual card game but I tried master duel because I always had a fondness for yugioh and played it a little bit and some of the video games as a kid, and holy shit master duel sucked so much ass, its just deck shuffle sim, you either draw your win condition in the first or second turn or you lose, every turn takes like 2 minutes plus of just endless chaining effects, which usually just equate to shuffling and picking through your deck even more. I wanted to like yugioh really bad, but for a casual like me something like hearthstone was just so much more fun, like there was an actual back and forth. Are there any yugioh video games that are actually fun?
>>96676888when you don't have rotation, power creep just hits harder, because every card released is competing not against hundreds of other cards, but thousands instead. that of course, puts more pressure on the devs to push the envelope when it comes to power level, because they still need to sell new shit, at the end of the day.
