🎉 Happy Birthday 4chan! 🎉

I would have a small group remain loyal to the Empire and keep the name "War Hounds."
>>
So they just magically get over having rabies machines implanted in their brains... somehow? Cause writer fiat says so?

Congrats anon, I look forward to reading your Black Library publication, you'll fit right in.
>>

What is this kind of autism called?
>>
There's nothing preventing you from having a loyalist group of World Eaters active during the Heresy that become a second founding chapter of "Ultramarine" or "Unknown" genestock.
>>
>>96691650
It's called "making threads about a Traditional Game on the Traditional Games board"
>>
>>96691641
No, their founders are world eaters who, although they still feel pleasure in killing because of the butcher's nails, remained loyal, the following generations of neophytes did not obtain the butcher's nails.
>>
Nah, World Eaters are fine.
>>
>>96691626
Anything "traitor but loyal" shit is a cringe and unimaginative try to be le special and belongs to reddit
>>
>>96691656
Oh, you're THAT faggot. Figures.
>>
>>96691656
No, it's called "you have an autismal hyperfixation with this flavor of toy soldiers and must have a thread about them up at all times even if there's nothing meaningful to say about them".
>>
I wouldn't. Partly because I don't think there's any point trying to salvage 40k fluff at this point, and partly because I don't see anything particularly wrong with them specifically. What do you even think needs to be "fixed" about them?
>>
>>96692394
It's only cringe if they're explicitly stated to be what they are. Leaving things hazy and strongly hinted is fine, so long as you don't flat out confirm it.

There's nothing wrong with the desire to flip the script, everyone has those moments. You just gotta do it in the right way, namely giving yourself plausible deniability so you don't get inquisitioned to death. The reason its cringe is when people don't do that, meaning they don't respect the setting they're writing for.

>berserker wearing Mk10 primaris armor
>but in M31 World Eaters colors

There were plenty of loyalist world eaters who had the nails, they just got really angry at Angron and the traitors before proceeding to banzai charge them and die to the last man before the heresy was over
>>
>>96692999
The historical records of that time are very confusing.

>There's nothing wrong with the desire to flip the script

No, there is, because remember, there's nothing inherently good about the loyalist side. They still follow genocidal space Gaddafi (who later becomes a soul-eating evil god).
>>
>>96693083
I wasn't talking about good or evil.

Just that if presented with "this group belongs to faction 1 of 2", people will always have a natural desire to ask "what if they went with faction 2 of 2?". Explore the road not taken.

But there's a right way and a wrong way to go about writing it.
>>
>>96693118

Except you don't see people making traitor versions of loyalist legions.

I started playing 40k in late 2e. World Eaters were always traitors. The problem is you have people who read the HH novels and don't understand the greater context of the setting, and think the loyalists are unironic good guys. So they got an affection for the War Hounds/World Eaters before they got to the heresy, and then are like "b-b-b-but my guys are on the loser side, where everyone is bad and wrong and stupid? What if they were on the side where everyone is good and right and strong?"
>>
>>96693146
Traitor versions of loyalists happen all the time though, its well established in canon and fanon that there's plenty of loyalists who fall.

And as far as being good or bad, eh. People misinterpret 40k lore all the time, yeah. But it can also be something as innocent as wanting to see a traitor legion using war gear that usually only loyalists have, for instance.

I think you've been angry at Marvel for so long you're unable to see the world in any other way. Which I suppose is also very in keeping with the themes of 40k.
>>

>Traitor versions of loyalists happen all the time though, its well established in canon and fanon that there's plenty of loyalists who fall.

Now, maybe. But there's basically none of them represented in the player community. And the reason for that is as I said.
>>
>>96693350
I would argue that its a question of rarity. Writing loyalists who fall feels like "something thats already been done before" especially since we now have all the Heresy books showing how the loyalists did fall.

But you never have books or stories about things going the other way, which makes it feel more unique. And thats always a draw for people. Frequently, its cringe, because that attracts special snowflakes too, but life is always a mixed bag like that.

So I don't think its centered around wanting to be on the winning side. Im sure thats part of it, but not the majority of it.
>>
>>96693394

>So I don't think its centered around wanting to be on the winning side.

That's 100% it. The loyalists are portrayed as the winning side, and right and strong whereas the traitors are wrong and weak and stupid.
>>
>>96693402
I very much doubt that across the entire fandom of people writing chapters or legions or alt history, that it all comes down to that one black or white dividing line as far as how people make their writing choices. But if it makes you feel better, you can indeed oversimplify like that.
>>
>>96693466

That's why people make loyalist elements of traitor chapters, 100%. I've talked to these people.
>>
>>96693473
Well you've certainly convinced yourself to grind that axe at least.

I think a lot of chaos space marines suffer from their 30k backstories being
>daddy issues
>being retarded
>being tricked
Makes it cooler if they're raping and pillaging for the love of the game rather than to make space dad mad
