mechanics and numbers don't matter. the most important part of any RPG is the lore and the setting. anyone can come and put a bunch of arbitrary rules together. but it requieres real imagination to do a good world. thats why white wolf used to dominate the market.

>>96693601This is a pretty good FPBP.
>>96693541False, mechanics are king. You can reuse lore in any system.
Yeah, dude, totally, who cares about the rules, like they did with Mage where you were better off never casting spells from spheres where you had 1 dot at all because you'd always fuck them up, right? Mechanics and numbers don't matter, just let your players paradox themselves every scene because a bunch of mages comically imploding only adds to the lore and the setting, real imagination, am I right?
Is it one of those threads mods make with ChatGPT to make it look like this board is faster than it really is?

I can already see the grognards raiding the thread
I have seen mechanics and numbers drive player decisions and outcomes in every single campaign I have ever played in or ran. The only reason rules wouldn't affect player choices is if the players didn't know or think about the rules. OP is only correct if you are playing with:>bored, lemming normoids>theater kids who just want to live out their OC>women who are only in it for the romance
>>96694048>theater kids who just want to live out their OCEven theater kids, in my experience and groups, tend to use their character's stats to inform their rp and prefer to use the mechanics to enhance the scene, rather than completely ignoring the game.
