What do you look for in a prospective player? How do you find good ones?
>>
>>96733484
You first.
>>
I'd rather just spend time with people I already know and like.

I don't really care if they are "good at it" because it's a game, and games are to enjoy with friends.

I might have to adjust my expectations about the level of complexity I can put on them, and help them learn the rules in the vey likely event they have no independent external interest in the hobby other than as something to do with friends.

Finding people who are willing to try tabletop is easier than ever; certainly it has none of the stigma it used to.

So going out of your way to meet strangers to game with, is more and more something only necessary for games with a higher barrier to entry;

Barriers to entry constitute expenses like books and miniatures, and rules complexity, and playtime.

So, if you want to pick up a game to introduce the hobby to the people you already know you like being with, start with something simple, but robust, and a small buy-in.

On the other hand, if there is one game that you must play, and it's something that reads like a technical manual, then you must commit yourself to the long hard road of carving out a regular group from whatever randoms you can scrounge up.

Like yeah, it's easy enough to find somebody to play Warhammer with;
Harder to find somebody you'd want to play twice.

That's a really good way to look at it. Thanks anon.
>>
Can dey speak gud?

>Comes up to you and is socially awkward, look like they're not sure on if to say things, when to say things, and they tend to blurt or whisper things oddly.

Not automatically shit, but there's a good chance they'll be a shit player if they can't talk to you fluidly, or are socially awkward.

>Buzzing with energy to play, in a noticeable way when they talk to you, or they're more focused on themselves and their perceptions of things than an even split between you in conversation.
Enthusiasm is good. Conserve it. But it can be a sign that they're going to do some gremlin shit. Especially if the player is a weeb, or a woman.

>Can hold a conversation and be casual, 'blokey' or 'chatty' with you.
Skill at the rules notwithstanding, they'll probably be a pretty good player, just in terms of gameplay. Normies actually make pretty good players, if you don't mind reminding them of the rules.

>This prospective player speaks very fluidly, with proper cadence, correct inflections, and uses a wide vocabulary correctly. All while drawing yourself, and any other conversation partners out into speaking while they listen.
If this isn't a put-on accent, you've probably got yourself a genuine gold-star player, as IME these people tend to be highly educated, communicate very well, recognize the tone of the setting in and out of game, and make their PC's and play style to match.

I message my personal friends I know IRL, saying something like "wanna get in a game this weekend?" Have you tried that anon, playing with your friends? You have friends, don't you?

I'm looking out for cute trans girls to play with.
>>
>>96740277
For this, you need to coordinate with them to set up dedicated dilation hours. If they all dilate on separate times, the sessions will have to take constant long pauses, and you would have to get used to the hairs on the ground. Get them together, explain the absence of the was/were, and set up a tarp with dedicated slots. From then onwards, it's all play-pretend.
>>
>>96740304
Why would you want them dilating? Might as well fuck a woman at that point. If they don't have a dick then I'm not interested.
>>
Show up on time
Dont be a deranged leftist

A. A willingness to show up to regularly scheduled games.

B. Not a complete That Guy

That's it, that's all the requirements.

Someone who is physically fit.
If they are it shows they have the capability to be reliable, on time, have self control, have creativity, be motivated, understand delayed gratification and the pleasure of a slowly unfolding story

self confidence is important, but don't mistake loudness for confidence. someone who's confident isn't trying to be a comedian and making shitty unfunny jokes every 5 minutes, that's a coping mechanism for someone who's feeling awkward. naturally this also includes trannies

I run a month long short campaign with them. 3-5 sessions is more than enough time to find out all red flags you miss to spot by simply talking to a person.

Nice bait. Very potent, but next time hang a picture of either extremely cute girl (with a vagine) or a fugly tranny to really rile up this board

Serious, no quirky marvel humor or gimmicky characters

Between the ages of 23-35

Understands the tone and the setting of the game

Good spelling

Preferably Argentinian like me, though it isn't a strict requirement

Fairly normal person

Non-woke

Preferably online because it's more casual (yeah I'm a zoomer)

Rules-lite oriented, with a laid-back approach as opposed to rules lawyers and people who enjoy taking forever to create a character or fight

Prefers old-school, hand-drawn sword & sorcery fantasy over high fantasy freakshit digital art
>>

>Rules-lite oriented, with a laid-back approach as opposed to rules lawyers
I struggle with rules-lawyerism in rule heavy games like DnD.

I can either go full autismo to learn the rules but then I WILL rules lawyer, because I've spend the time to understand the system, and I WILL demand that you use it. (And don't get me even started on fudging the dice.)
Or I can just stop giving a fuck and you will have to tell me what to roll when making anything more complicated than simple weapon attack.

I haven't been able to find any reasonable middle ground. I am sorry.

This is less of a problem the less crunchy the game is.

IF it's someone brand new that I don't know from somewhere else, I give them this test I developed. The correct answers don't matter, I'm curious as to how the person thinks about it.

Otherwise, it's "word of mouth."

Interesting test, anon. I was curious so I gave it a try. I was extremely tempted to look some of the answers up as it made me realise how little I know about some topics, but this is how I'd answer it.

>Geek
1) Don't know, but doesn't it change in every series?
2) The Peter Cushing character - Grand Moff Tarkin
3) Not familiar with Forgotten Realms
4) Evil fortress in LOTR, home of the Witch King
5) Hear Me Roar

>Nerd
1) Couldn't tell you - I don't know enough about biology.
2) Heat moves from hot to cold regions, not in reverse, I think
3) I know it has something to do with coding but I don't know enough about that
4) King John I of England.
5) A narrow strait between Europe and Africa, strategically important hence Britain's control of Gibraltar.

>Normie
1) Salaried 9-5
2) Weightlifting
3) 10-20%
4) Only boring stuff like media piracy
5) Generally good with banter, and I'd speak to someone privately if they crossed a line.
>>
>>96744837
idk
fuckin.... Tarkin i think
something from DnD
something from LOTR
idk
RNA can leave the cell and makes protein or something idk
idk
goes somewhere
king john
the strait that seperates europe from africa i think
technically no since i just got a 2 day a month job
bouldering and climbing
idk maybe 10% since i'm poor
yes
quite

i don't feel like i belong here bros
>>
>>96733484
1) Can they make it on time?
2) Do they smoke?
And the goal is to get yes-no combo.
Nothing else matters.
>>
>>96733484
Someone who can actually be halfway as dedicated to the game as I am. That's proven to be an impossible ask.

Once you start considering soft factors like; being more communicative and direct, being more sociable, reading the room and table, not being one of several types of thatguy (edgelord, beigelord, HMFfag, powergamer), not being jaded to simpler games, and not a neckbeard, normies and newfags actually have a lot of benefits over shittier experienced players.

The only real drawbacks are.
>Doesn't know the rules.
I tell them what's happening, and what dice to roll. They roll, and add the stats I say. Boom.
>Doesn't know the lore/setting/culture.
Given it's probably DnD you're playing, that's a good thing.
>Doesn't know how to optimize their build.
Not needed for 90% of ttrpg's. ESPECIALLY not DnD. Optimizing is cancer.
>Putting too much of themselves into their character.
Oh no, they're playing their character in the same rational, reasonable way a human would act irl.
>>
>>96744837
Testin.

>Geek.
1. Pretty sure there were multiple Enterprise's. Was one of them the Constellation class?
2. Moff Tarkin? Though I suppose technically the Emperor, as it did serve as a 'flagship' for a while.
3. The governing council of the city of Waterdeep, located on the sword coast in DnD's something realm. They wear masks to maintain identity security against assassination.
4. Tower that plays host to the Ringwraiths in LotR. Located somewhere nearish Gondor. Ruled by the Witch King of Angmar.
5. Hear me Roar.

>Nerd test.
1. DNA is a double helix used to preserve encoded information long term. RNA is a single stranded helix of similar codons used to either transcribe information, transmit it to other parts of the cell, or translate it into protein structures by complementary folding, or by the activation of mRNA specific enzymes that may function through a variety of different mechanical, or energy exchange methods. Exact uses for RNA are denoted by the lowercase number (eg; mRNA, tRNA, pRNA)
2. Conservation of energy?
3. Sends you to a specific page?
4. English King. Existed in the time period before the implementation of modern gamberson and plate armour. One of the Alberts?
5. Entrance to the Mediterranean. Very very important site to control for trade, and in case of war. The Bospherous and the Dardanelles are on the eastern side, and were so important that they founded Troy there like, 10 different times.

>Normal test.
1. No.
2. Mixed Martial arts, but it's tied with Kali.
3. Not much. I don't really spend much money anyway. It's mostly food.
4. Yep.
5. Depends on the topic, but generally, yeah. We all have our comfort zones, and our hidden sore spots. Perfect security is a myth, and a big part of social awareness is recognizing if you can or can't 'banter' with person X on subject Y, but you can on subjects 123...
>>
>>96733484
Can your players hold a time table and a schedule?
Yes? Awesome
No? Find new players.

This is literally the only thing that matters. It's like that saying - you can teach them type, but you can't teach them grow tits.
>>
>>96733664
>unironically vouching for gatekeeping the socially awkward out of tabletop and inviting normalfags in
>>
>>96747575
Nta, but ask me how I know you never played a single session in your life
You want as many normalfags as you can get. This reduces the chance you will get retards and cunts.
You can teach a normalfag how to play.
But you can't unfuck a retard.
>>
>>96744096
>Non-woke
non-/pol/tarded is also necessary
>>
>>96747575
You realise that playing with something who is autistic or even simply unable to fucking speak up is a terrible experience for the whole group (that person included)... right? Whatever Hollywood and Stranger Things taught you - they lied. You first and foremost want well-adjusted people that can articulate themselves and maybe also have some general popculture familiarity (so they can handle genre conventions), and not a shut-in who's gonna say 10 words per 6 hour session (on his good day).
>>
>>96747594
Ask me how I know you've never played in your life. There's a vast gap between normalfag and retard.
>>
>>96747930
Also nta, but re-read >>96747575
Then ask yourself again: who are you trying to fool?
