And a collection of random cards i might end up using for cube at some point.Looking at them together, a lot of them are pretty restrictive, but i think that's kind of cool in it's own way.Would you want to play these?
Hey, need a hand designing a card, specifically wording. So had the idea to make a custom Commander with a focus on resource removal. So I came up with a {B} legendary creature where it forces each opponent to discard a number of cards equal to the mana spent to cast it. So you cast first time, everyone discards 1, then the next time you add CTax and everyone discards 3, next time it's 5 and so on and so forth. Also wanna account for cost reductions, so say I use Jet Medallion with 1 instance of CTax, so it's 2 mana spent so discard two. How would you word an effect like that?
>>96743922I think these are pretty neat. I could see them working in a solid cube. Honestly cubes that have more generic effects as opposed to fine-tuned engines you're hunting for seem more fun, nothing worse than realising someone pulled the linchpin of your draft strategy out before you got to see it
>>96744529This is what I have for it so far
>>96744529"each opponent discards X cards, where X is the amount of mana spent to cast this creature."It'd probably need a serious downside to be balanced though.
>>96744600Ah, I see. In that case, what kind of downside would you think to be fair? Would including the caster balance it out or should I go a bit harder? Kinda wanna keep the bounce effect too for Sultai colouring
>>96743922Just noticed that Toss is just fling with a different name. It's supposed to be based on toughness!>>96744627Making the discard symmetrical would probably probably go a long way. I'd also consider doing something like Torment of Hailfire where you can distribute the damage across multiple vectors rather than exclusively targeting the hand. That way it's more about general attrition and less about keeping everyone from playing spells, which seems more in the spirit of commander. (although maybe your groups is into that experience)>bounceDon't mind it, but seems at odds with the idea of playing with the commander tax.If you want to justify Sultai, you could also do something like the Brother's war mana sink dudes where the color of mana matters rather than just the ammount.
>>96744847That's a really neat way to do it actually, thank you! I could let the opponent choose between discarding and milling? The goal of the custom deck would be more general resource denial so milling also fills that quota without forcing the game to a complete stop. Sorry for late reply, went to bed
>>96747121Here's a revamped idea using the concept. Feedback appreciated!
Had another concept for a keyword called Contracting where the spell has the ability to be countered by having a target opponent discarding X number of cards from their hand, like them succumbing to an illness for trying to interfere, like a doctor catching plague. Thoughts?
>>96747161Discarding one is a lot more powerful that milling or exiling one, so you should probably increase at least the mill number.>>96747465Has a bit of the rhystic problem where it tends to gravitate towards denying both players the ability to do anything, but it could be a thing in moderation. Punisher cards are fun.I do think that putting it on mana fixing like this is rough though. It basically exists exclusively to mana screw you.
>TQI print them and mix them to play with a cube on occasion. Also I have started to put them in Forge.
>>96747465The flavor feels a bit off, especially with the name. I'd sooner expect it to give them poison counters for countering it, or just pure life loss, if the idea is that they're paying for it with their health. Paying with life actually might be an easier design space, since you could take notes from existing spells that let any player pay 1 mana to prevent an effect, but change it to a Phyrexian mana symbol instead. Although that probably ends up as more of an ability word than a keyword, and would probably still run into the same problems as Vexing Devil or similar cards.Requiring a discard is a harsher cost, but it also basically means that you're giving your opponent a hand full of free counterspells. The effect here feels quite weak in that context, where there are already plenty of 1 mana land-searches. It's not a strong enough effect where an opponent will be pressured to counter normally, but it's also just a downside for no reason. I think another angle I could see for these cards is if it was more akin to Tempting Offer, where an opponent could copy the spell, but the spell came with a downside baked in and gave you a bonus if they copied it. Like a spell could mill four cards and then return a milled land to hand, but if an opponent copies it then you get to put it into play tapped instead. Or maybe take the choice out of the opponent's hands entirely and do something like Gift with a more plague twist, where instead of Food or Treasure you're gifting opponents Blood tokens, or Rats and Germs creatures, or letting them surveil or draw cards while losing life. Things that are ostensibly positive, but flavored as more sickly.
>>96744582I think that cards shouldn't be engines by themselves, but it's a commander so maybe it's par for the course.
AI art is slophttps://youtu.be/vzjC9jR2IVo?t=628
>>96757526AI art gets a lot of hate but for custom cards is a godsend, printed custom cards don't look any worse than the real thing.
>>96743874Why is the image small?
>>96757940Saved the thumbnail like an idiot. This should be the full image
>>96747161Still busted. Discard is never this efficient. What you currently have is like a Hymn to Tourach on legs.If the first ability required two black mana for each discard it'd be more reasonable. The green mode is fine. Obviously you want to go for the discard in most matchups but when it's useful it's useful.Mill is trash in commander so I'd consider doing pretty much anything else for the other mode.
This is what I am working on. I am still generating ideas for the mechanics, themes and the universe. I don't think it will work out as a balanced set so I am not really worried about broken cards. The blanked art is NSFW.
>>96761259custom cunny set killed the thread.
why be creative when you can meme?>le funny monke
>>96758283Don't play commander, but is (nonrandom) Hymn on a stick even good in a multiplayer format?>>96765112Really like Yamame. The symmetrical life loss is a nice way to make paying life matter a bit more.I think Kisume should probably go up to 4 power since there's a lot of cards that use that as a threshhold.
>>96766549When you can do it repeatedly, yeah probably.
>>96766549A Hymn on legs that can be bounced. Hopeless Nightmare was bad enough, can you imagine looping this thing every single turn?
