>RPG series starts as a pulp post-apoc gamma world ripoff
>turns into a cyberpunk game
>that turns into a warhammer 40k ripoff
>all of this over the course of 9 years
>that then turns back into a pulp furry post-apoc game under new management after the original publishers went bust

wtf was their problem?

Doesn't Mutant Chronicles still exist as it's own IP now, just owned by a different company?

Sounds about right, the entire start of the table top fantasy and science fiction games were all just quite literal rip-offs and mashups of existing things, not even trying to pretend like they were original.
Sometimes they go on long enough to kind of develop their own identity, but at the end of the day most of them are just disjointed schizophrenic messes.
So it's no surprise when someone else picks it up and decides to run with a different downplayed or dormant aspect of it

oh yeah the entire publication history of mutant chronicles including the miniature game probably does bear mentioning. Only thing I know about that is that I don't know enough to make sense of it.

Should also mention that there's 4 editions published (mutant, mutant 2089, mutant rymd and mutant chronicles. Mutant 2 is as it says on the box an expansion of mutant) during that 9 year period. I love RPG publication history, it's so insane

you're in luck. Most of the books from the 80's and 90's are free on internet archive

Mutant Rymd is basically just an early version of Chronicles iirc and reuses art from it. Chronicles itself was also kinda designed to have global appeal since that's the first time they released translated versions outside of the Nordics. Not sure if it or Kult came out in English first but I think Kult was probably Target Games/Äventyrsspels biggest hit internationally and I'm curious if the international versions of Kult toned themselves down like the second edition of the Swedish game did after the first edition caused a moral panic.

It's not a Warhammer ripoff it's a ripoff of first comics which Warhammer also ripped off.

Hence why you have the American themed capitol megacorp on Mars from American Flagg and the cabal from grimjack

Ain't seen a demotivational in quite some time

I wish Mutant Year Zero: Hindenburg was translated from Swedish.
Not because it's any good but it feels like the missing piece of context for where the who Free League RPG was building up to as a prequel to older editions.

Part of the reason why it's not translated is because it has a lot of jokes and wordplay that are hard to translate. The major reason however is that they changed the metaplot too much in Year Zero's English editions to the point where it's hard to make it line up with Hindenburg (and Undergångens Arvtagare) without rewriting Hindenburg significantly.
