I've grown to dwarfs a lot in fantasy and playing them in Total War and then reading their books and lore made them my favorite dwarfs ever. I love their stoicism, their loyalty, their strict adherence to tradition, the way their units look (in ever edition), their bravery in the face of overwhelming odds, their stout appearance, Khazalid, them calling themselves the dawi, and how they have a history that tells you why they think and act the way they do towards other races. Even before TOW got announced I picked up some dwarf models (Belegar and Ungrim) but mainly started painting them when the game got announced. Then I found that I also love painting them. Lots of armor and they the 'eavy metal style of skin works really well since dwarfs are old. I adore these little bastards and I'm almost done with my list (though I reckon I have over 2K points worth of dawi).

Because the cloven ones naming convention for themselves is based around "gor-ness".

A regular beastman is baseline so they are a Gor
A stunted shorthorned beastman is too close to human so they are Un-gor, Ungors
The biggest and Strongest are the Best-gors, Bestigors
The horse halved ones are Centaur-gors, Centigors
The giant one eyed ones are Cyclopean-gors, Cygors
The ones suffused by the god of plague are Pestillent-Gors, Pestigors

They are more faithful to the naming convention because they describe what they are not who they worship. Ideally the others should be stuff like Wrathgors, Changegors and Greedgors.
>>

I think they are pretty fun, and as someone who doesn’t speed paint and wants the minis to look good I try and paint thier details and trinkets to the best of my abilities. But gors especially can look good without the smaller pieces being painted, since they are usually in a large group anyway.

I bought around 2000k points of WoC this August, but I’ve yet to play them. I don’t want to play with grey or primer plastic, and due to IRL stuff I’ve only started painting my first 10 Chaos Warriors this week.

Deciding on my first army was a pretty hard choice, I was torn between Dwarfs, Chorfs and Warriors of Chaos. I chose WoC at the end because I’m an edgelord and also their in-your-face playstyle will likely suit me more than turtling with Dwarfs, and because I didn’t want to 3d print/assemble dozens of resin miniatures for Chorfs (90% of the AoS nu-Chorf range looks dogshit imo).

I like your thought, but they aren’t albino, if that were the case their fur would also be a shade of white.
My reasoning for their pale skin is due to the region they live in. My Warherd hails from a part of the forest of shadows that is nestled between the borders of Ostland and Kislev.
Harsh dark winters and the shrouded canopy of the forest had made them all very pale, and almost ghost like for whoever might spot them in the corners of their eyes as they look into the forest.

I like to play a little into the scary bedtime stories of the forest made manifest in a way.

>>
>>96751254
The bonuses to cast you can get from doing that are nice, sure, but that's not magic being cancer or good, that's just you being able to cast the spells more often. You shouldn't need to have all your sorcerers bear a single mark and give them a unit of body guards to make magic good and fun. And even if you did do all that, what would you even be casting? More magic missiles? Are magic missiles cancer?
>>
>>96751356
Ignore the obvious AoSpiggie. Every edition has their strengths and weaknesses but overall the ones that have the most players are 6th and 8th ed. If you can find a group of people to play, it's never a bad thing to try. Though in my experience the rules are not as important as having a fun group of friends to play with.

And I'll gladly take this if it means people stop playing with unpainted models.
>>
>>96751819
I'm not gonna comment on the painting, but the models themselves that he converted are dogshit for beastmen. No idea what this is really supposed to be and if someone showed up with this and told me this is his beastman army I'd laugh him out of the venue.
It's obvious he didn't care about beastmen at all despite his bold claim of "loving" the faction. So, nothing new for a paintfag channel.

>>
>>96751864

Yeah, it's more like a Chaos Corrupted Empire Army than Beastmen one of the models even has a gun for pity sake
>>
>>96751864
as individual models they're laughable, especially as ungors, but whole warbands or armies converted that way, even to that level, end up very pleasing.

If confusing regarding what represents what at a glance.
>>
>>96751897
Yeah, p. much. You could probably use it as a Mordheim warband as some kind of ill fated Empire expeditionary team that got hit with a bad case of Chaos, but I think the painter just wanted to shoehorn Trench Crusade into his Warham vid. But as a beastman army it's unreadable at worst and nonsensical at best.

I'd say you can use shades and other colors on stirland to get the various textures and such for a dirt road with forests on the side.
When making the bases for my dudes my method is this:
>Stirland mud
>Splotches of death world forest
>Shade everything with Athonian camo
>Drybrush nurgling green and averland, the latter on a few select spots to make it seem more vibrant

You can do something similar, and for the roads just use a similar method but with more shades of brown.
Perhaps try it on an empty base or other surface to see if it works?

Confirmed zoomer who wasn't around to try and make them all fit on bases and not fight for space on a movement tray back in the day.
>>

Seem to fit fine to me. Less spilling over the sides than they used to on 25mm. I think only a few units don't benefit visually from the increased base sizes, like goblins.

There is a balancing portion involved with this too. It's very minor but does exist.

Did you just not read the rest of my post? I know full well how annoying ranking up models on 20 and 25mm bases can be. Do you have any idea how much time I've had to spend after every game getting all these chaos warriors back in the singular formation that allows them to rank up properly? And despite all that, I still think the old base sizes were better.
Why is it that whenever someone says anything, someone else crawls out from the wood work and calls them a liar or a faker? I'm tired of it.

A good material to use as bases for terrain is MDF boards, it is easy to cut and sand down the edges after sawing it in the shapes you want. I have used it for all my terrain so far, both big and small

Also another tip I got from (here or the WIP thread) is after cutting the blocks for the stone wall is to put them in a box with a few real rocks and shake it a bit, to create to natural roughness to them.

>>96753743
Go with a mix of a skins if you want, beastmen do wander around from place to place, and it wouldn't be out of place for a warherd to amass as they move throughout the old world, absorbing smaller herds along the way. If you want your herd to be focused on one area another reason for having mixed skins instead of a homogeneous one could be explained away by dark magic calling herds from all around to your dude's herdstone.

Looking through what's available for printing Orcs & Goblins, it's kind of neat how you can see different art styles even outside of STLs that go for meme themes (Pirate orcs etc.)

Do you guys have personal preferences in what you look for in third party models? In the pic the left is a super exaggerated swamp troll from Avatars of War while the right is a touched up Total War rip with more "realistic" proportions. I'm probably going to go with the AoW models as I think less but larger details look better on the table.

Ogres. Every Cathay thing put out so far has focussed on them holding off chaos while being invaded by ogres up to and including the dragon calling down a piece of morsleib to try and kill them and accidentally created the great maw.

With the age of sigmar ogor moawtribes having a line revamp they are going to move the current ogre kingdoms range to blue boxes and out of legends.

Did Chaos Warhounds get replaced? the ones in the TOW box are all pretty uniform but the ones in the 6th edition army books are way gnarlier with some having two heads or just a screaming maw on the neck.

Narrative Battle Report: the scenario - an army of Altdorf state troops have lost a battle and were routed. A small group of halberdiers and their lieutenant managed to escape. They made it to a nearby monastery, but with the enemy scurrers in hot pursuit, they hastily take up defensive positions and prepare for a fight. A small contingent of bowmen also escaped during the commotion.

The troopers start in the churchyard, the light cavalry pursuers start in two groups on the opposite board edge corners, and the archers start centerboard. Will they make it to their friends before getting cut down by cavalry?

Building Black Orcs is so refreshing after dealing with building modern GW DKOK where everything is spliced into 50 pieces. Black orcs have the old kino. Body, leg, leg, arm, arm and head pieces that let you scrape and sprue glue conversion out of the box easily.

in the TOW timeline Kislev's borders extend into the darklands, across the northern mountains of mourn and meet Cathay at their easternmost extent. It's more like a series of connected forts and waystations. That image has the great bastion in the background so it doesn't seem likely but who knows?

smaller bases were absolute fucking trash, it came from back when models were mono-pause and aligned diagonally and that change needed to happen since 5th or 6th edition
>>
>>96755494
They definitely were trash, and did need to happen, but the change has produced a noticable difference in gameplay for me. I was used to running 8 wide for a bunch of armies, but physically on board now that's 6 wide. The frontage feels off, and the board noticeably feels smaller. Still not completely happy with it even this far into TOW
>>
>>96755436
>marauder+mammoth kit rumors
?
>>
>>96754257
For my taste, I'd prefer something that falls in between stylized left and the realistic. That being said, in a broader sense, I would rather see the overall look of the army be aesthetically cohesive. Basically, if you're going to commit to a more stylized look, try to make sure the models you use (at least roughly) fall in the same range.

I've been planning out a narrative beastman army for a while now, and the aesthetics problem has been a persistent thorn in my side. A lot of the STLs/proxy stuff I've been looking at are pretty jarring when you group them altogether - with harpies, or anything remotely female, being fairly severe pain points.
More than half of my solutions so far basically boil down to "fuck it, greenstuff and kitbash", which is quickly devolving the whole project into a nightmare.

8th edition player here. We had a similar piece of terrain in a game two campaigns ago.

We ran it like this
Positioned near the short side of the table right by the center line.
Defender player had 2 free units in it (from meeting certain conditions in the previous game)., one unit was an 8 men core shooting unit. These could be dwarf quarrelers, orcs or goblin archers, empire handgunners or whatever but also custom units for army with no shooting; skeletal archers for VC, marauder/thug bowmen for WoC, corrupted humans peasant archers for DoC etc

The other unit was a 15 men unit of core infantry.

The units couldn't leave the compound (they could run enemies down if they won combat, but they'd be back in it right after rolling for pursuit)
Keeping the complex till the end of the game gave you some bonus both in terms of victory points and reinforcement options in the next game.

Same thing but reverversed if you managed to conquer it and keep it as the attacker.
