I have such a hard time imagining what mage society is supposed to look like. Hell, I can barely picture how two mages of differing paradigms could interact. No wonder the traditions are cooked.
I found a group that wants me to ST MtAs for them. They're completely new to it, so I'm a bit torn about how to initiate them.I have two ideas:>Have them pick a Tradition, start them at Arete 2/3 and let them figure it out>Start them as recently awakened Orphans, start them at Arete 1, use Arte + Sphere rules for casting and hand out XP in droves so they can get to the fun spells quickly and have them join a Tradition as they figure their own magick outLeaning more towards the latter since it'd be a more "beginner friendly" way to play, but it would also keep them from sinking their teeth in the meat of the game until the second or maybe even third session.

>>96754168CCP, the EVE Online company, bought White Wolf out then spun them off into a semi-independent studio still using the White Wolf name to keep publishing whatever books they wanted to. While the ex-president of WW Mike Tinney was put in charge of CCP North America and oversaw the complete clusterfuck that was trying to make the WoD video game, they kept going on current product lines, with Creative Director and current OPP CEO Richard Thomas taking over the unnamed P&P studio. After 6 years of that, CCP wanted out of publishing TTRPGs and spun off the studio into a separate company lead by Thomas, with OPP getting perpetual licensee rights to WoD, CofD, and Exalted, and full ownership of Scion and Trinity. Then three years later, Paradox buys the WW IP package from CCP because they think cashing in on the cult hit element of Bloodlines 1 will work out despite them not having any experience with TTRPGs, CRPGs, or First-person games. This was also when they had Chronicles of Darkness renamed to provide better brand differentiation from the WoD they wanted to reboot as "their thing" to tie into Bloodlines' production.

Got around to listening to the new HtP. You'd think with all the moaning about it in these threads that they had Fatigue recant his white heritage while flagellating and submitting himself to Filipino bulls. All that happened was he was forgiven his part in the expedition since he didn't know the full scope of it, and was told if he wants to be rid of the guilt and shame he felt because of the actions of his family he had to do good works and help those they harmed. It's a very basic WtA plot point, doing the honorable thing even when it's not the glorious thing. If someone killed your father, we can both agree the honorable thing is to seek vengeance/amends. But what if your father kills someone? What do you owe the victims? You can say you owe nothing, it just means you lack honor.
>>96755248>you had no idea and you aren't thereyou owe them nothing>you had some either and you were thereyou kind of owe them>you participatedBasically same tier as the Dad. Yeah he's not entirely blameless as IMO he's around the second tier given that he played along and in some cases was willfully ignorant, but he also got manipulated by Wayda. I think the two perspectives aren't mutually exclusive
>>96754891Because the one who made the map is working off of low-effort memes and only going by where the tribes originated instead of where they are. While this would make a map by tribe rather useless, I contend that, yes, the map is, on its head and as a concept, useless. Go for Garou Nation/Ahadi/Beast Courts/Independent instead. Don't bother labeled where the tribes are because they could be fucking anywhere.(The areas with SFs are particularly dumb, because the Fangs have a bunch of houses in places you might not expect... like around Thailand, for example. Google House of the Blood Red Crest.)
>>96754444>Correct me if im wrong but werent they kinda setting up The Family Reunion prior to V5?There was a whole deal with a 4th gen Capadocian getting more powerful in hopes of killing his brother. the V5 version is an extension of that.

>>96755248They guilt bombed him while he was still wrestling with the trauma of learning his entire lineage were monsters. He didn't return to England for 20 years. When he did return to England, he spent the rest of his life stealing money from people who were at absolute best unwitting accomplices to his father's evil. Your fathers' sins are not your sins. The entire premise works on collective guilt, which is barbarous, and I don't care if WtA thinks collective guilt is good or correct. If Fatigue did feel that bad on his own, he should have given his own money and time to right that wrong, not steal it from people who thought him a friend.

What ways are there to purify a corrupt Caern/Node/etc, either one that was originally Gaian or one that was created by BSD/Yama Kings/Baali/etc?Not just by the Garou, but also by other splats, even the weirder ones. Someone finds a place of power that seems to be Evil, what can they possibly do to cleanse it?I'm guessing Mage and Demon would have some stuff at least, but would vampires or changelings? Would it be within the reach of the magic of a linear sorcerer or an ExWoD Exalted? Could a ghost or a shih do anything about it?
>>96753953>The Kuei-jin have AdelaideI see someone actually read the lore.
>>96755723Swapping out the disciplines was a decent move. Its just a shame they didnt feature an alternative bane where you still look like a corpse. Ffs they have art of some members of the Hecata still looking like corpses. Nagaraja you can just take the organivore flaw, lamia can still get their disease from their loresheet. Samedi get the ability to transform into their corpse like appearance (or steal someone else's) but thats now a perk instead of a bane. Cappadocians as far as I know have no option to having their corpse appearance.
>>96755957Killing czechoslovakians mostly
>>96755248>and was told if he wants to be rid of the guilt and shame he feltThey didn't say he felt guilt, they said he HAD guilt. That he was guilty by correlation and also for wanting to journey and adventure at (theoretically) their expense, despite not really doing anything to them himself and turning on the party as soon as he knew what was up. His very presence in the country is treated like a crime. For a series that is very particular about it's usage of words it's hard to believe this was anything other then wanting to punish the white man and justify reparations even if they're literally stolen. I guarantee you despite he mentioning they could be there won't be a scene of the org being angry over the stolen recourse. Because that would frame the action and people receiving the handouts as potentially wrong. And they can't allow that.In a way I'm more mad then if they played it open and proud like the usual woke slop. Now I'm left assuming they're chickenshits who only aren't being open about it because they know the cultural tide has turned, people are utterly burned with this shit, and their views and patreon would plummet.
>>96755737The giovanni entry in v20 talked about using alternative methods to obtain blood. Even the v5 book give you some ideas.
>>96756081Everyone’s talking about white guilt. I don’t get how Wernon’s betrayal even matters. The Arcanum looks opulent, it has vast resources in its vault… just how much/little was Wernon embezzling to the Nails? If the Arcanum hates hunters and that’s why the betrayal is so severe, why is Occam contacting the Coalition? Absolutely nothing about this situation makes any sense whatsoever. If Wernon sold out to Garou because his family stole moons, then I can get it. If Wernon’s legacy is tainted because everything he learned about Garou came from Garou, then I’d get it. But right now? I don’t get it. I also don’t get how there could be this severe of a misstep.
What goes on in Eastern Europe and how come the Sabbat haven't been exterminated if they break the masquerade so often?
>>96756140Eastern Europe is a shithole and not a single person there in their vodka/kvass/bear piss alcoholic stupor would give a shit about vampires when there’s irradiated potatoes to harvest.

What do you think would happen if a non-vampire tried to wield the Sword of Troile?
>>96756168The CEO of Spirit Halloween has it hanging on his office wall. Why don't you ask him?
>>96756140>how come the Sabbat haven't been exterminated if they break the masquerade so oftenIt is my understanding (an admittedly incomplete one, so take with a pinch of salt) that the Sabbat care more about the Masquerade than they are willing to admit. There's a reason why they have stuff like the Kings of Shadow to conceal stuff from the public. It's just that the methodology seems to be different, and the entire culture revolves less around the Masquerade.Like, iirc the name "Sabbat" comes from a time when some vampires kidnapped people while pretending to be witches. They are still concealing the existence of vampires, even if they are not concealing their actions. So in modern nights, while in Camarilla territories no one knows anything is going on, in Sabbat ones there's a greater understanding that there are dangers preying on people at night. It's just that such dangers are believed to be ordinary criminals and gangs instead of supernatural creatures. And I believe there are times when they deliberately break the Masquerade, but they do it in Camarilla territories to make their lives difficult instead of in their own? Like publicly shooting a Cam vampire who would cause a Masquerade breach if they walked it off or showed back alive later.Feel free to correct me if I made any mistakes
>>96754840>Urban Native population of CanadaWhy?
>>96756215>The CEO of Spirit Halloween has it hanging on his office wall.Wait what? Wasn't it either lost in some Greek mountain or under Carthage? Did some Pentex exec get their hands on it?
>>96756122I think we're overcomplicating it. The "betrayal" if you can even call it that, happens over a 2 minute recording at the end of the audiolog. It's probably enough to make a difference (to them) but clearly not enough that occam or someone else would notice. Otherwise, they would have called it into question misappropriated funds. As for Occam being in bed with the coalition, it's more like the Blacklaws are. The Arcanum doesn't hate hunters, they just aren't actively participating in hunting as it puts a target on their institution as a whole, so D being reckless and very personal was likely a danger to the whole place
>>96756216The other thing is that the Sabbat inductees are fairly lucky to even know they're in the Sabbat the first couple of days, so likely it's just put under drugged up arson/terrorism when they inevitably combust
>>96756231Naw. I looked up the image of it and was trying to be funny.
>>96756122>I don’t get how Wernon’s betrayal even matters. The Arcanum looks opulent, it has vast resources in its vault… just how much/little was Wernon embezzling to the Nails?Theft is theft. Betrayal is betrayal. Even if it's just a little bit of money in the margins, you're still taking something that does not belong to you, all the while hiding the truth from the people you call friends. I more object to the absolute guilt tripping of a traumatized young man whose only real mistake was naivety than any of the conjecture about colonialism. The whole thing came off as opportunistic and exploitative of someone who genuinely only ever wanted to help, and I'm going to be disgusted at collective guilt and sins of the father bullshit no matter who says it. Unless you're asking why it matters in a more objective, narrative sense. Also, Occam isn't calling the Coalition because of Fatigue's embezzling, he doesn't even know about it yet. He called the Coalition due to the near data breach and how hard his chapterhouse got their asses kicked.
Speaking on Ghouls, I want to play a Caligari kindred and his Somnambulist Ghoul to do his dirty job. What clan should I pick? Also, any tips on how to make my ghoul as broken as possible?
>>96756308That's the most open and shut Malkavian concept I've heard in a while dude.
>>96756290Ah ok, fair enough. Just WoD being wild enough that even stuff like that is surprisingly plausible, then.Tbh if I was DMing a game I'd be kind of tempted to actually make it a thing now.
>>96756306I’m asking why it matters in a narrative sense and I know why we are told Occam called the Coalition. I’m asking how can Wernon’s betrayal matter if the Arcanum doesn’t actually hate hunters like the Nails if Occam is willing to let the Coalition in. If the Arcanum hates hunters, then I get it. If they’re ambivalent to hunters and nothing Wernon has done has impacted their private research, then it doesn’t matter. If it doesn’t matter, then what’s the point of even bringing it up.
In regards to Changeling Cantrips, what realm would manipulating or changing something digital would be?Would it be dependent on WHAT the digital thing would is, such as altering a document, changing an game avatar, or manipulating a 3D object.
>>96756325It's just there to provide a sort of narrative conclusion to Wernon's miniature redemption arc. Nothing majorly important or that will come back again I figure but enough to fully retire the character. Also, to be funny. It does come immediately after PENIS PENIS PENIS PENIS PENIS PENIS PENIS COCK BALLS [/spoilers]
>>96756325>I’m asking why it matters in a narrative senseAh. My bad. I'm not sure I have a good answer for you. Relating back to the main plot, it could possibly drive the point home that this chapterhouse is so comically compromised even the recently slain, ancient, friendly grandpa type guy was working for someone else. I think they just had this side story idea during the writing stage as a way to spice up a loredump.
>>96756353>as a way to spice up a loredumpThis, definitely this. They have so many main characters now that the only way they can off them is to present their convoluted backstories as lore dumps to bring some level of satisfaction and closure to their demise.
>>96756353>comically compromisedI actually hadn't thought of that, that's actually a pretty good one and ties into the v5 themes of higher orders of hunter orgs being compromised one way or the other>Coalition in Pentex pockets>Nails in bed with native woofs>local Arcanum chapter, smaller scale org, has one double agent, an undercover ghoul, and somehow infiltrated successfully by a Red TalonAt this point the only trustworthy people are D and family
>>96756374somewhat figured that a lot of the extras might be temporarily retired for a while or will die, TTS got fairly bloated in cast size but it generally stuck to just Magnus, Kitten, Emperor, and Karamazov (also Emps)
I've always really like Malkavians, but the more I think on them the more I think that they're completely unnecessary as a clan. In a narrative sense, their role is to create chaos.. but any antagonistic vampire is going to do that. The best advice there is for creating a Malkavian is to just make a vampire of another clan and give them an insanity, but why not take it one step farther and just make a vampire from a different clan with an insanity?
>>96756386>D>TrustworthyThe man is a consummate flake. Claims to know everything (which he can often back up) but never shares pertinent information until it's too late. Has borderline suspension of disbelief ruining knowledge but often misses key details in sleuthing. Talks crazy shit about his backstory feats and how good of a Hunter he is, but he's choked every single time he's been in action. There's a reason people call him a fraud.
>>96756400They're role is more to be doomed prophets, ineffectual communicators who know more than the rest of the group. Malkavians aren't just insane, they're insane AND know info from other Malks, so effectively they're the type of dude to tell you your son will kill you but now how and let you spiral into your son killing you anyway
>>96756403Trustworthy more in the sense that he means well for the family and can be trusted to not be compromised
>>96756328Boring answer would be 4 dots in Prop. I would accept the argument that Actor or Fae could work if you knew who's file/device it was you were altering.
>>96756400>their role is to create chaosNo, not at all.The role of Malks is to be seers. Their entire schtick is understanding the past/present/future events that will affect society and either putting the right people in the right place to avert disaster or quietly solve it themselves with one of their "Pranks".

Its so foreign, full of such a concentrated mix of glamour and banality, on top of being patrolled by alien hyper-predators like net-spiders and elder virtual adapts. If normal WoD for fairies is like trying to navigate a minefield blindfolded, then navigating the net is like trying a minefield inside a maze, that's inside a giant tumble-dryer going at max settings, under a time limit, while you're both blind And deaf.
>>96756444How about this: You're playing a game, maybe a mmo like WoW, and you want to fuck with other players and want to create a illusion in the game , would that be scene or would that still be prop since a video game is technically an thing rather than a place
