After decades of farting about with various TTRPGs, I've come to the realization that the vast majority of TTRPG fans spend most of their time just talking about the games instead of actually playing them.
Okay. Why was this worth making a thread for?
>>96759108Sure. My current game's biweekly, and I do like to think and talk about RPGs more than once every other week.
>>96759108Most people only spend 4-6 hours a week doing tabletop gaming which leaves a significantly larger amount of time to od other things including talking about games.sincerely hth
>>96759108it is also inspiration for gaming prep. you don't just consume, don't you?
>>96759108I do play games, and run games. I'm blessed by having a large ttrpg community, but I do find funny when people here get angry looking at other people's tables and how they play or have fun as if that affects them in some way.
>>96759108Did you mean to go to your Livejournal?
This took you multiple decades to figure out?
>>96759108What am I supposed to do for a week while I wait for my game? Especially when there is a cancellation?
What I hate about the hobby that nobody is willing to talk about is how people try to make their ttrpgs into video games and it just leads to frustration for the DM and the people at the table.
>>96759777I am willing to talk about it. Lay it on me.
>>96759108>itt: never game finally realizing he should fuck off from a hobby board he's not participating in anyway
>>96759108And you spend most of your time making shitty threads about how other people don't play games instead of actually playing them, what's your point?
>>96759777>Translation: I'm super new and only played under unexperienced GMsHere, spotted your problem. And some shocking news: people passively waiting for "script to activate"? That's a sign of both disinterested flakes and newfags. Usually both. If GM does that, they probably aren't doing this shit for longer than 6 months.
>>96759777What >>96759809 said. Only total newfag GMs allow such things to happen, because they don't know better themselves.
>>96759108talking about games>no time commitment>can start and stop whenever you want>always someone to talk toplaying game>have to coordinate multiple adults schedules>have to prepare hours of content>can't just leave when you get bored without possibly nuking the entire group and not being able to play anymore even when you want to again
>>96759108>After decadesAnon if you'd thought for 15 seconds about how much you post here vs how much you play games you'd of figured this out already. Its not just a game problem. If you compare books purchased to books read but then compare it to how much shit people talk its quite clear most of them don't actually read much or know anything they just like talking around themes. /tg/ and image boards, message boards and social media in general are about the social part at least as much as the actual subject matter.
>>96759108Please pull that trigger and/or never post here again.
>>96759108So does that mean you're going to play, or just continue shitposting?
>>96759777>>96759809>And some shocking news: people passively waiting for "script to activate"? That's a sign of both disinterested flakes and newfags. Usually both. If GM does that, they probably aren't doing this shit for longer than 6 months.Eh. You gotta guardrail new groups for a while before they're comfortable striking out on their own. My first few adventures with any new group are always pretty railroady. I try to put meaningful decision points in, but it takes a while for a new table or new system to catch up to having their own things that they want to do. Been running games for a long time and it happens every time you put a new table together. You hold their hand for a few adventures you start media res. After the sixth or so session? They've gotten invested in their characters and the world, and are ready to take the reins. But training wheels aren't a bad way to learn to ride. Gives them the confidence they needed, to try it on their own.
>>96759108>the vast majority of TTRPG fans spend most of their time just talking about the games instead of actually playing them
>>96759777No one does this. I did it once as a joke. "I loot the ghost." It got a laugh and we went back to playing regularly.
>>96759777>people try to make their ttrpgs into video gameslollmaoGet a load of this fucking retarded faggot.
>>96759108Yes, and?I only have a game once a week, you fucking mongoloid. I spend the rest of the week planning or talking about games, because reality keeps me from playing 24/7. Retard. Kill yourself.
>>96759108That's because talking about games takes little effort, and playing games is something you can, at best, get together once a week for, and even then, that relies on the whims of multiple other people, who can only dedicate a scant few hours to, and even then, can only maintain undivided attention to for small bursts of time before they need to take a break or get distracted.
>>96759108On /tg/ circa 2025 for sure. The moderation made it so.
>>96759114Farting in TTRPGs.It exists. When is the last time you farted in your TTRPG setting?
>>96759108I have six game sessions a month, and run only two of them. What else am I going to do with the time my brain demands I spend on tabletop gaming? Not talk to people? Do you really want me to turn into a tumble oc-fag who makes characters and dreams about the games I'd play with them? I know I'm a literal retard, but I am not that pathetic.
>>96759108Spoken like a true tourist.
>>96759777What are you talking about? How many games are there that are even based on tabletop? Baldurs Gate? Caves of Qud, possibly? How many groups have you been in that turned the game into a video game? What were the video games called?
>>96759108No shit? It's almost like most groups just play a few hours a week.
This is almost every hobby. My coworkers will spend 4 hours a week golfing but talk about it all the time
No, I think it's just the people on this website who are nogamers. 4chan is home to the internet most strongest contrarian edgelords who struggle with maintaining a friend group because they arrogantly refuse to moderate their personalities. I've played in three games this week, they were a 5e dnd game, pf2e and forbidden lands. In all those groups of roughly 15 people there was only 1 loudmouth leftie and the rest were just dreadfully dull, slop-eating consumerist who can only talk to each other in memes and talk about what show/anime they last saw.
>>96760511That's very reassuring. I'm currently railroading my guys hard, but maybe soon I'll relax the reigns and give them some time off with nothing in particular happening. See what it is they want to do.
>>96759108this is true and there's nothing wrong with it
>>96759360it does, for example because everyone "decided" to play dnd it's hard to be able to play anything else
>>96764564The entire RPG genre is based off of tabletop games. Many more fantasy and sci fi settings books, games and movies are partially or wholly inspired off of tabletop settings. Many games are also verifiably based off of singular campaigns.>Warcraft>TES>Doom>VTM (lol)>Disco Elysium>The Witcher, supposedlyBut that's obviously not what the anon meant. You're a mix of uninformed and autistic.
