Tau are one of the worst written factions by far. They're cursed to be in stories where their opponent is hit with the retard ray or they are hit with the retard ray. I'm also starting to hate them because of that one guy who avatarfags with those shitty femboy tau pictures but that's not the Tau's fault.

Them being skinny in their most popular form is supposed to be deceiving, they are surprisingly strong due to muscle density or some shit like this. There was this story where some kroot fought marine lieutenant in melee combat and bested him like this, marine had to pull a gun on him to win.
They are smart, agile, extremely adaptive obviously, collectivist and so eager to sacrifice themselves if need be etc

Only thing that really fucks them over is their kaczynski worldview cucking them out of technology

I think if gw was doing this they would likely just buy a new paint factory. Changing bottle sizes and types is such a pain in the ass on filler machines, and can cost a lot to tune if you want them running as fast as possibl. The way bottling machines work they would have to go through every single part of their line and adjust literally every measurement, and that's if their current equipment even fits the new bottles. Then they've got to buy new equipment, troubleshoot all of the adjustments and timings and proportions. All of that needs to be done in a way that doesn't interrupt production. There's tonnes of strange little things you need to work out before you have a closed, filled, labeled bottle exiting the line that doesn't leak, and doesn't have anything on the outside of it. Some stuff is super hard to control, like the quality control on the bottles, caps and nibs are dogshit because they come from China in bulk. All it takes is a bottle with a slightly wrinkled top, or small dent to cause the nozzles to miss the opening, and spill a little bit of paint onto the convertor and then every bottle coming off the line after that likely needs to be wiped clean by hand before labeling until you can stop the machine.

>>
>>96760684
General speaking the matchups tend to go like this:

>Fighting Guard
Tau fight intelligently, Guard fight intelligently, the Guard loses cause they're not equipped to fight a modern force

>Fighting Space Marines
Either both fight intelligently or the Tau act like retards so that the Space Marines can be glazed more (like 1 million Firewarriors being needed to fight 100 Space Marines that one time)

>Fighting Orks
They fight smart...usually, Orks fight like Orks. The exception is with Farsight, who fights like a retard but gets away with it cause of plot armor.

>Fighting Necrons/Dark Eldar/Eldar
Tau are just there to get bodied, I don't think they even have any recorded victories against them, which is both fair but also kinda bullshit since it's not like the Imperium hasn't had some victories.

>Tyranids
Both fight pretty smart, and it's one of the few times you actually see them ally with the Imperium

>Fightingi Chaos
The Tau tend to get a major nerf whenever this happens and not for particularly good reasons either, daemons might be resistant to material weapons but they're not immune to them like they tend to get portrayed when the Tau are fighting them.

The Guard is cost-efficient, but not particularly 'good'. They emphasize quantity over quality. And for a while this did work against a lot of enemies.

The problem is that none of the factions that are still around have the 'drown them in bodies' strategy work against them all that well. The Eldar have a lot of mobility and can move their entire Craftworld to another location, the Orks literally create more Orks by dying, the Tyranids will just eat the corpses you're throwing at them as well as their own corpses to make more Tyranids, the Necrons just regenerate and come back with endless waves of robots, the Tau have heavy firepower and a lot of mobility so they just shoot and scoot whenever the human waves get too close or they target your logistics instead, Chaos has functionally infinite amount of daemons to throw at you, etc.

The literally run on anything and don't need supply lines, and there will be 7 to 1. The panzer was great but it died to a bunch of shittier tanks with better numbers, supply lines. The Russ needs no supply lines and its mass producable and can be manned by chimps. Its insanely OP in the fluff. Yes Tau have a range advantage, but Leman Russ have a better save and toughness. When the Tau win its not because of a tech advantage, its always because of the retard ray, or a reconnaissance advantage in the story. Guard just attack move and the tau encircle and obliterate the retard ray NPCs. When guard win its literally always because they got into melee and shovel memes

>Right up until they started using big mechs that they shat on the Imperium for having.
Tbf there actually is a logical reason for that.

Once the Imperium started losing Titans to Tigersharks, they started surrounding those Titans with loads of anti-air to protect them. So the Tau decided that they needed a ground vehicle that could also take out a Titan as well. So they built the Stormsurge, a Knight-sized mech that can eliminate a Titan-sized mech.

All in all it's still very efficient since you have vastly smaller mechs specialized to take out vastly larger ones.
>>
>>96761323
The real inefficient problem with the Guard is how fucked their command structure is on purpose. Combined arm regiments dont exist, its literally just tank regiments, infantry regiments, etc. So you have to coordinate different regiments to get shit done, which makes things inefficient
>>
>>96761408
>he qualified the statement with ease of manufacture
Anon, Eldar sing their tanks into existence from literally nothing.
Imagine going to a K-Pop concert but each song is actually manifesting a part of a tank into reality that then assembles itself on stage, and during the finale the performers climb into it and use the main gun (which is a giant crystal), to disintegrate a statue of Satan as a test firing.
Eldar are beyond "Ease of manufacturing"
>>
>>96761446
why not
>>
>>96761435
anon is right though, a tank with no gas and no screening is dead weight. though I think Tau vehicles don't need to refuel either but it's probably not been discussed. the russ is constantly glazed for its robustness and amazing sci fi engine
>>
>>96761429
Imperium tanks are like the T-34, while Tau tanks are like the Sherman. Both were mass manufactured, but because the Sherman was produced by a modern nation-state while the T-34 was produced by a shitty communist state, the Sherman was able to have quality AND quantity on its side.
>>
>>96761391
>Eldar have a lot of mobility and can move their entire Craftworld to another location
And thus it's no longer a problem.
>Necrons just regenerate and come back with endless waves of robots
If damaged enough, they'll have to phase out back to their tomb world, so they're no longer a problem.
>Tau have heavy firepower and a lot of mobility so they just shoot and scoot whenever the human waves get too close or they target your logistics instead
If they just keep backing away, they end up giving more ground. They also don't like to lose a lot of people while manpower is the one resource the Imperium is not in short supply of.
>Chaos has functionally infinite amount of daemons to throw at you
That need to be summoned into reality and cannot venture far from a Warp source. Also, by the time daemons start showing up, so will more dedicated daemon fighting units.
>>
what do you think the lord commanders obscurus, tempestus, pacificus, and ultima are like

>>
>>96761453
that's how it works irl though. you attach a mechanized asset from a tank division to an infantry division when you need combined arms then separate them for training and resupply purposes. a tank and infantry regiment are gonna travel the galaxy in the same boat.

>If they just keep backing away, they end up giving more ground. They also don't like to lose a lot of people while manpower is the one resource the Imperium is not in short supply of.
Unless the planet is a sphere, in which case they can just keep retreating endlessly since chasing them means you followed them in a circle. And also the Tau may not be as numerous as the Imperium in total numbers, but they're much more 'dense' in their population per planet, so in any given conflict they probably have more men to throw at the problem.

The guy who designed the Soviet factories also designed the factories in Detroit. The Soviets hired him to modernize their industry and factories doubling as military factories was baked into the design. Reason the Sherman had the shit engineered out of it is because it had to operate on the other size of the globe with minimal support. Everything had to work and be easy to repair. Germany and USSR could just ship tanks to factories to get repaired. Over the course of the war, the Soviets crunched the numbers and simplified the T-34 design to maximize production. Both sides played to their strengths.

Exactly. The Soviets had to work with inferior industry so they made a tank that could work fine with those limitations. Not putting a radio in your tank isn't a tactical decision based on everything going great, it's the sort of thing you do when you can't afford to put radios in your tanks.

>so I can deploy more dudes to the ground you just retreated from
It's very rare for the Imperium, even for the Guard, to have so many infantry that they're able to cover every piece of ground in them. Typically even in major conflicts you tend to see surprisingly limited numbers of Guardsmen deployed, and certainly not enough to cover the surface of the planet.

>You run long enough and you'll hit all the guys you just ran away from standing there where you ran away from.
Good? That's the point. If you stop chasing them, they move in and start shooting at you again.

>They had trouble gathering troops for the 4th Sphere Expansion and they've had two more since then
The fact that they're able to have a 5th and a 6th sphere expansion going on at the same time right after 90% of the 4th sphere expansion was wipe out would suggest they are not particularly short of manpower.

>And only one of their five castes does the fighting.
Yes but 20% of your population doing the fighting is fucking huge compared to basically any other civilization in history and they have Gue'vesa, Galgs, Kroot, Vespids, Tarellians, Vorgh, and other alien auxiliaries to fill up their ranks as well.

That's fair, and almost certainly the meta reason. But if I'm gonna make an in-lore reason for it, we do know that the Tau area of space is unusually dense in habitable planets, and they know how to create continent-sized space habitats for their Air Caste, and they know how to terraform worlds to become more livable, and they have ecumenopolises with populations in the trillions.

All those things combined would suggest an empire that, while obviously very much lacking in the sheer expanse of territory the Imperium has, is nonetheless able to call upon way more resources and soldiers than you would expect such a tiny area to have.

>Salamanders and Space Wolves had lore about returning to their home worlds to sire children.
Do cite said lore.

Salamanders visit families (you know, mothers, fathers, siblings) and while SW are known for womanizing, there's no examples of them having kids since becoming Marines. It's also clearly said Marines (and Custodes) are incapable of procreating.

>Lacking the manoeuvrability of other battlesuits, the KX139 Ta'unar Supremacy Armour was designed for static defence, carrying massively destructive, long range weapons.
This is the important part.

It's a giant gun that's used mostly statically. It's basically a slightly mobile turret. It might be able to blow up big things, but the reason it itself is big is because it's not supposed to be used in offensive warfare. They're not sending it to take worlds, they waddle it over to where they want long-range firepower.

Yeah, a lot of the fun about the Tau is realizing that it's incredibly easy for the Imperium to frame a loss as a win just by re-phrasing the context.

Honestly it kinda makes me wonder if that's how the Imperium reacts in-setting as well. It would seem incredibly in-character for the Imperium to categorize a Forge World's strategic value as absolute, and then after losing it say "Well we didn't even care about that world anyways."

Jesus Christ, retards, it's literally what the designers themselves said:
>GAV THORPE: This is Warhammer 40,000 - nobody is as shiny as they first seem! As a bit of an analog for late 20th century / early 21st century western interventionist culture I've always assumed that the Greater Good is ultimately for the benefit of the T'au and if others get something out of that's just a bonus. The fact that they are even willing to work with other species is pretty unique and progressive among the factions of 40K, rather than rampant genocidal, xenophobic armies. The thing about the Great Good is that it is, in the long term, as inflexible and authoritarian as the Imperial Creed or the all-consuming Tyranids. It still comes down to the Greater Good or Death (tm). I've tried not to make it too sinister being within the T'au sphere, though in the original Apocalypse book I introduced a variety of NATO-style innocuous three-letter-acronym formations, like Mobilized Hunter cadre, Dispersed Retaliation Cadre and Forward Commitment Contingent. None of them say 'battle' or 'war'... I can imagine the news back home is quite a sanitized version of the reality - like when we watched videos of 'smart' bombs and gun cameras blowing up stuff in Iraq but were totally unaware of what was really happening on the ground.

Looks great. One thing you can try is basecoating the whole model in your midtone, then going through and painting your shade/wash only into the recesses. Then drybrush your midtone to smooth out any transitions. This gives you a shading effect without having to worry about cofeestaining as much, because your drybrush step will help smooth out all your flat surfaces. Good work picking out the eyes though! These style helmets have notoriously tiny eyes.

Eh, normally I wouldn't fuss much but you really need to slow down a little. The heads fusing with the chests is way too much paint (or glue?) and there's a lot of overspill.

You may also have missed a spot in the driver's view-port.

Otherwise it's not offensive. Put a little something on the base and I'd say you get your painted points.

Really though, just slow down a bit dude. Just a little patience will go a long way in learning and improving.

>Female Space Marines are coming
They're here and they're called the sisters of battle
>>
tempted to just wordfilter "female" on /tg/ and see how it goes
>>
>>96762394
The big GW one they do each year.
>>96762408
Thanks
>>96762410
Pretty much, meant to be basically sunset camo. The planet they're from is very Miami inspired, and has sunsets/sunrises that last a really long time since it spins slow.
>>
>>96762737
Fuck off whore
>>
>>96762638
Female space marines are honestly not even that bad or lore breaking compared to Primaris. We've already set the house on fire, what's a couple more matches?

It's funny that in RT they were organized along the lines of Marines and were clearly meant to be the female versions of them with certain differences like acting as religious enforcers and lacking augments.
>>
>>96762755
They're not going to waste the matches. If they can make money doing nothing they'll be thrilled to do that instead of having to spend a single pound.
>>
GW is absolutely terrified of upsetting the marine fanbase as they desperately depend on keeping that golden goose happily feeding. They're not going to make any major changes to the faction identity all at once. Anything they do change is going to be very slow and gradual over many years.

The recent Space Wolves Killteam has sleeveless marines showing off some sockets

It would be fitting
>>
>>96762844
Their Primarch did it so why not?
>>
>>96762819
FlashGitz are religious right wingers so of course they love both Sisters of Battle and Black Templars. Both of those armies are right wing coded and the nastier GW makes them the more their players love them to (probably) the surprise of GW or maybe not, maybe that's the intended result. Eldar pander to LGBTQWERTY+ while BT and SoB pander to conservatives.
>>
>>96762844
it'd be the same as drilling but holes in your space wolves.
>>
>>96762866
?? But the power armor covers the booty
>>
>>96762755
I am less mad about Primaris marines than I am about Primaris Vehicles. They're so dumb and where most of the lore breaking starts to hurt the integrity of the setting.
>>
>>96762838
Conrad was a self hating schizo
>>
>>96762879
I dont like that they gave space marines stubbers. That's stupid. I also dont like how fuck huge the repulsor is.
>>
>>96762838
Nta but Curze used fear tactics on the worst of the worst to make other human monsters think twice before they commit something horrible. Night Lords were supposed to be recruited from the best Nostromo had to offer but due to Curze's absence the planet got reclaimed by the mafia and gangs and they started sending the worst out of the worst. Serial killers and the like to become Night Lords. Curze didn't notice what was happening in time and it was too late, his Legion was full of murderhobos who only wanted more murderhobos. He nuked the planet threw a fit and went insane. He was also plagued by horrific visions because he was a potent psyker and as a kid he had to resort to cannibalism and by doing that he gained the genetic memory of all the people he ate and he only ate the worst kind of people so now this kid has vivid flashes of murder, rape and torture and feels like he is the one doing it so he started doing it for real. His novel is pretty interesting. Worth a read.

>>
>>96762800
>They're not going to make any major changes
They already did.
>>
>>96762909
I personally love the Black Templar ones and World Eater ones. The snake is a symbol of Malys so if you want that whore as your waifu its not the worst idea. Teal ones are Vect and probably more neutral.
>>
>>96762920
Knights look goofy, only the Chaos one with bendy knees looks good.
>>
>>96762936
I got lucky and got the world eater ones so I wanted to get a contrasting pair
>Snake is the symbol of Malys
Huh, that sounds cool. I think I might go for those.
Although the teal ones also have more overall dice. hmm
>>
>>96762946
Honestly I would get ones that fit my army. If you have Tsons the Tzeentch ones are great. If you play Drukhari and are a fan of Malys you might get those. The teal ones are Kabal of the Black Heart and more neutral for Drukhari. Malys dice are pretty specific. They are also going to release Ultramarine dice with their new Combat Patrol.
>>
>>96762964
>Honestly I would get ones that fit my army.
Yeah I'd love to get dice for all my armies but unfortunately they sell out fast.
I have both tsons and also really got into drukhari lately with some fun ideas so Im excited for them too.

Its actually really fucked up because childhood trauma really does create monsters. Kids who were beaten, tortured or raped have a super high likely hood of having ideations of committing those acts themselves. Its the victim abuser cycle. By being inflicted with all this insane trauma he was genuinely fucked with no hope. And he had a genetically engineered super brain so it was probably 100 times worse because his eidetic super brain couldnt forget anything or work past any of the trauma.

Unironcally I like how LoV tap into whatever aesthetic you call these early 2000s toys scheme. Like its a specific look but I don't think it has a name
>>
>>96763580
Last time I did it I got a slightly lower but similar quality. Then I zoomed way the fuck in and thought "the dividing line between colours is too sharp" so I mixed something halfway and tried to obfuscate the divide. That ended up just flattening the whole thing out into that mid-range colour and almost losing the blend effect entirely. So I just had to remind myself to not overcorrect, and pull back from my up close squint to judge the effect.

The texture on this one is a little rough from pushing paint around with the brush. I think maybe thinning with medium instead of water might help with that
