This is now a Space Marine thread.
>TQCatachans but only cuz the eavy metal team painted them like shit eons ago and refuses to repaint them to make them look even slightly better
>>96771848Oh and I hate the Rogal Dorn tank, looks like shit. They should’ve made a plastic Macharius if the Malcador was to be forever consigned to Heresy

>>96771808Crisis suits. What a joke. Instead of bothering to balance THE Tau unit James just decides to limit their wargear into a couple cookie-cutter outfits.
>>96771808Tomb blades. I hate those stupid little hamster wheels with their faces glued to the front orb line they're inhaling from a damn smelloscope. Maybe I'll try thinking of a way to convert some into looking less dopey one day.
>>96771877but what about their models?
>>96771835the smell of wet dog is insufferable
>>96771877yes, 10th edition is shit, especially when it comes to customization. nothing new.
You're doing so well then you fuck up in the last stretch
>>96771901Thin some nuln and put it over the eyes very carefully. It can't fix the cross eyes but it will make them less googly
>TQI just bought and painted 2 mutalith warp beasts for my thousand sons and goddam are these models big and annoying. I am also not thrilled with how they stick out beside the rest of the army. The other 95% of my army fits the same scheme and although they look nice they don't fitAlso catachan refresh when? Fuck krieg give me back straken
>>96771827Reposed the arms a bit and moved to sculpting. Very much a wip pic, the blobs on the leg will become a spine and a rib cage, and need to sculpt the flames on the sword.
>>96771832
>>96771827I finished mine just earlier, super excited with it. You gonna freehand those skulls on the axe that you posted the other time or not enough space?
>>96771808>TQthe monopose nature sickens me in all factions
>>96771938Next time. I figured the bloody axe would harmonize better with the heads on his hand, keep everything more on theme. Sometimes less is more.
>>96771808Should I wait for next year when they officially reveal the new Chaos AdMech faction or should I kitbash regular AdMech?
>>96771990is why chaos in 40k so boring?everything is "X, but chaos" and if it doesnt exist already people beg for GW to realease it.
>TQElectro-priests. Nothing says transhumanist tech cult like a bunch of bare-chested men
TQ>What models of your faction disappoint you the most?I still love them but coming from CSM, DG and Emp kids Im honestly surprised by how little I can mix and match their weapons and arms. All Berzerkers are right hand pistol and left hand weapon. Compared to Infractors and Plague marines where I could make them go dual weild pistols, bolters or melee weapons just for the sake of it. I literally cant make the iconic dual wield Zerker wtfThey are oddly clunky. The Eviscerator axe and eviscerator sword can only be used by one specific body respectivelyA lot of their pistols and weapons looks very weird and off if you dont build them as how the instructions want you to. Building 30 of these guys Im forced to repeat the same exact poses with the same exact weapons. They come with Transfer sheets but all their right Pauldrons already have markings on them, making them only useful for the vehicles that they barely have in the codex.Compare this to the Eightbound who can be built with out armor, without pauldrons and have a ton of potential mix and matching between their weapons. I have a single unit 8bound all using just the Chain Glaives since all their body types are poseable with it
>>96772006YOure supposed to paint them blue
>>96772006>wasting precious electricity on bionicsngmi
>a whole faction whose lore is entirely about aliens raping and impregnating people and then forcing them and their children to be part of a sex cult, kill other people and finally kill themselveshow the fuck did GW get away with this without people online throwing a fit? do most 40k fans just not know this lore?
When can we expect the end of edition narrative to start and end? When can we expect 11th Edition reveals?

>>96772046I'm in it for the new models.
>>96772027Really, I found it very clunky when trying to put them on the other bodiesI only built 12 out of the 30 for now so thats good
>>96772067I grabbed 10 when they first released then the old combat patrol, built all 30 with zero repeating sets of weapons and heads and bodies and packs just by sorting them by body then making sure bits weren't being repeated across poses, have another 20 from another combat patrol I got for a huge discount that I'm confident I could easily keep from seeing anything close to a repeat
>>96772028>the faction with some communist elements is literally the faction of mind controlled bugmen and rapist aliens who herald in the destruction of the world

>>96771827I drew a blank about picking models to paint so I started by painting som infestation nodes (I think they're called that) as pumpkins to get inspired. That didn't help me though so I just picked the "spookiest" metal minis I had. In this case an obliterator and a chaos spawn. Not really happy with any of them.So not unlike a C-student I call it done and hope for a passing grade.I present: Harvest time and warp-chills.

>>96772396My last one also took longer than usual, I hope it's just a temporary blip.Normally it's out the next day and my last one took a week (ordered on the 5th)
>>96772350Is it like human on elf rape or elf on human rape?
>>96772023It's 40k man, that's not even that bad for the setting.
>>96771837Part of this comes from the fact that for the wider playerbase Ork shooting is supposed to be a joke and they throw a shitfit every time an Ork shoots and it actually does something besides put some dice on the table for fun. For most 40k players there is only one way Orks can play and win the game: advance through the board turn 1, get points, get some kills and then proceed to get rinsed but win because you got enough points on objectives (or lose because you didn't).We had two great detachments for different playstyles in More Dakka and Taktikal Brigade but the players basically demanded GW shitcan them because in the former dedicated shooting units were actually *gasp* shooting and dealing damage and Taktikal captured the Blood Axes' smarter, more measured way of fighting in a great manner and once again it had to be nerfed into uselessness because Orks are Goff Pressure until the end of time and anything else is not allowed. And yes, both detachments were overpowered, but so was Gladius. The difference is that Gladius is still a great detachment and those two are now unplayable.Basically what I want to say is that Orks are cursed with being flanderized so they can only ever be played one way.
with this being finished im done painting all my ultramarine vehicles! now all that remains is infantryProud of how this one turned out :)

>>96772505Can I recommend painting the lenses on the front in some bright colours?
>>96772547Why the long face, buddy?
I promised some anon to post a wip yesterday but I forgot, sorry.
Does the imperium at large know about spirit stones or would a general make a trophy necklace out of them and only find out they're a bit more important than that if he ever crossed paths with an ordo xenos inquisitor?
>>96772557You knucklehead.
>>96772569>Does the imperium at large knowOf course not. They're kept in the dark about everything. Why would the Imperium let the knowledge of a functional form of immorality exists in the hands of xenos?
>>96772558Well I woke up and now I see it.Nice work so far anon
>>96772547>why don't they do The Thing?Probably because 40K is a bunch of Sci-Fi tropes strung loosely together where on one world they simply take control of the water purifiers and infect an entire hive in one week to create the setup for an ultramarine book whilst on another world that'd never work because the imperium is backwards don't-yew-know and so healthcare isn't real so there are no covid shipments to sabotage and everyone's too conservative to believe in kissing before marriage so it takes a while and so aren't too hard for an inquisitor in her own book the bossgirl to death
I’m not really a fan of how chaos is treated, or accepted in 40K.
>>96772569Does the knowledge make them more productive? No? Then they don't need to know.
>>96772569Grey Knights at the very least know about them for sure. I'd imagine xenos specialists like Ordo Xenos and the Deathwatch know about them too.
>>96772023>aliens raping and impregnating peopleNah you misunderstand anon. Genestealers are castroid parasites, they hijack the reproductive system of their victims and prevent them from creating normal offspring but genestealer hybrids. While also fucking with their mind the same way parasictic wasp parasites do to catepillars.
>>96772499Tfw the only way I can play shooting orks is by inserting meks into as many infantry units as I can in Dread Mob, gambling is GLORIOUS
>>96772604I agree and would add the Ctan are also not treated right. I blame the focus on major 4, gota focus on more weird minor daemons/gods and native warp lifeforms and that would help alot.
REMOVE 4++ FROM THE FUCKING GAME THAT SHIT SHOULDN'T BE ON ANYTHING EXCEPT WARLORDS
>>96772604I liked it when they made an unaligned daemon model and made it actually canon that not being one of the big four is possible without becoming a mindless beast even by a daemon's standardsBut Vashtorr is a fuck ugly modelI imagine that has nothing to do with your problem
>>96772678The Forge of Souls, a player in the Great Game completely independent from the big four, has been a part of the fluff since forever.
>>96772678>But Vashtorr is a fuck ugly modelI like how his eyes are meant to look, in the art and fluff but never seen a paint job do it properly. The rest of the design im not a fan of. His wings are cool but the skinny naked apron look isnt right imo
>>967726892008?
>>967726962008 was seventeen years ago.
>>96772709So? If you arrived on this site later 2008 you're still a newfag. Time is relative
what does tzeentch want? personally he strikes me as a god that just wants to keep the game going for as long as possible. he doesnt want to win nor lose, or rather he wants to win while losing and vice versa. but the endtimes is pretty much proves me wrong so i dont really know what to think.
>>96772725The same as all the other gods 'want' He wants to win the the great game aganist his brother gods. The material world is always a secondary goal and distraction for the gods great endless hosts of daemons warring in the warp
>>96772709I was only asking if it was 2008 anonYou don't have to start telling me how deep into ancient history the year is :(
>>96772023>wrongly summarize the the faction like a /v/edditor>"How the fuck did GW get away with this?!"le sigh
>>96771827reposting my finished entry
>>96772742Very nice anon, never seen him with orange edge highlights. Looks good
>>96772630The C'tan were horribly written and deserved to be swept under the rug, kind of. We can now expand on them I guess, but it'd still have to come with swathes of retcons.>>96772604Daemons/Chaos Gods are (almost) impossible to fix in 40k, the damage has already been done. You'd need complete model refresh to make them separate from Fantasy daemons (including greater daemons).Remember:Design-wise, it is not that 40k and Fantasy have shared daemons. Its Fantasy daemons that have been just unceremoniously shoved into 40k without zero thought.
does anyone remember that one 40k mobile game that everyone thought was going to be 40k total war?
>>96772742Great job. Very seasonal and even works well as an actual color scheme.
>>96772744Yeah the idea was to use halloween-themed colors but I don't know how well that got across
>>96772752>Fantasy daemons that have been just unceremoniously shoved into 40k without zero thought.Nope, Chaos was very deliberately part of 40k's creation in pic related along WHFB. It's the main antagonist of the setting, and lore-wise daemons are great. But's true that GW has mishandled them in the game as a faction, and lacking more exclusive 40k minis
>>96772622As a wise man once said...
>>96772778Anon you misread that anons point, he was saying the models and their design was unceremoniously shoved into 40k. Not chaos as a part of the settings fluff
Does chaos care about tyranids eating up their souls?
>>96772816Nah, the Warp gods are probably more interested in corrupting the hivemind than anything else
Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.
>>96772670did your opponent roll hot on their saves?
>>96772670genuinely the only way for a unit to survive>increase toughness>reduce AP>things are actually beefier>add so many lethal hits and sustained hits and 5+ crits now nothing in your defensive profile matters except your invulnmasterful gambit sir
>>96772835>Cult TenebrousOh it can... kinda happen?
>/40kg/ pisses on Iron Hands>/hhg/ cums to Iron HandsThe duality of /tg/.
>>96772689Forge of Souls always just used to be "This random thing within the Warp that just shits out daemon engines at random. Why does it do it? Who fucking knows and who fucking cares, it's the Warp it's meant to be weird and unpredictable."And there was no mention Vashtorr ever, and neither was there a need for him or him to be added.
>>96771933At least Fulgrim was never up his ass about Chaos being just a tool or that it had no hold on him. He just thought that embracing it made him more awesome.
>>96772835>>96772869Can't and wont happen for the same reason they can't corrupt Gorkamorka, Sigmar, etc., except there is even less of a reason for Hivemind
>>96771844Rollan
>>96772876So what are Chaos gonna do when they have no more people with emotions in the galaxy?
>>96772900Get gated from the galaxy until people with emotions appear or something
>>96771827Defending my PhD thesis next week, scared shitless, but I did all the reading I could so I'm just browsing /tg/ now and trying to distract me.Also, I was wondering, if Iron Warriors are able to replace limbs or entire parts of their body with augmetics and they don't lose any combat effectivness, why does the imperium still bother with geneseed? Why not just go full admech and build legions of cyborg-soldiers with the capabilities of space marines?
>>96772905Because admech will not just give out high performance augmetics to random imperial laity. To them those aren't just prosthetics, they're sacred religious implements as well.
>>96772905Whats your PhD thesis about anon?>Why not just go full admech and build legions of cyborg-soldiers with the capabilities of space marines?Because thats the domain of the admech and they won't give up their monoply on space marine tier skitarii. GW just doesn't focus on this. But really The Imperium of man is actually the Empire of the Mechanicus, the Imperium itself is just the meat sheild for the tech priests who actually run the Imperium. They control (nearly) all the space ships and technology so they call the shots. I can't see any high lord overruling the fabricator general and forge worlds are the only worlds that are kind of immune to inquistor authority
>>96772778IMO you're trying to just incite some sort of flamewar instead of getting the point I am trying to make1) Daemons certainly existed first in FB and this shows with how they were just UPnP'd into 40k, they have always had next to none 40k elements and 1 plague marine with a bolter in a book doesn't count2) Their models are rigidly uniform and a lot of them are various takes on "basic daemonic troop with X or Y or riding Z", horrible 3) They are rightfully the weirdest faction in FB and I love that, but design-wise are far from it in 40k, which is one of my biggest complaints. A lot of literally-who minor xenos look & act weirder, Slaugth kind of mog everything Nurgle brings to the table and they're not in any shape even related to him. Logically, through alien psyche the Daemons should be even weirder, but Daemons in 40k are humanized and all we can do is cope "well humans are so prevalent in 40k too h-haha, Daemons are just convergently human as well" 4) different universes warrant different portfolios & approaches, Gods & Daemons being the "same" across two only reinforces the above point that its just a FB port, instead of a smooth blend of both seeping here and there. Not to mention that Big Four (whose existence is maybe a mistake in the first place) should've probably had different facets in 40k, but no, they're the same and boring look, fucking Horned Rat even tries more with its Greater Daemons5) Daemons defecting/aligning themselves with different Gods is woefully underexplored6) Undivided Daemons and Lesser Gods are woefully underexplored7) Sea of Souls fluff and what fuels daemons exactly is poorly written out. No, "technological progress" or "entropy" aren't emotions. Are they 8) Timey-wimey bullshit is written like it was made fro 5 year olds or people who thought Warlords of Draenor was some tight shit. Ew ew, horrible, GW should get a slap on the wrist whenever their hand reaches to atemporal writing(2k symbols is 2 little but w/e)
>>96772918>>96772916Biological stuff, don't wanna go more into detailAnyway, my question still kinda stands, how do iron warriors get all the augments then? If they are easily available, surely they must be superior to going through the entire geneseed process?
>>96772924NTA but realistically every daemon model should be unique, like even more so then you could make a case for guardsmen or marines. It is a limit of a tabletop wargame that daemons are fairly rigidly designed.
>>96772870>the most autistic 40k fans like the beakies who are boring and beep boop emotions are for the weak
Hypothetically if GW started publishing explicitly noncanonical stories (like elseworlds in DC or Infinities in star wars), how would you all feel?
Did some blemplars finna move onto my World Eaters pile unless the jumppack intercessors are calling this weekend
>>96772935I really dont care. So go ahead.
>>96772778>>96772924>(2k symbols is 2 little but w/e)And you know fuck that I'll continue harping for a bit moreYou also can't double sit on chairs of "teehee Daemons & Gods are truly unknowable and so-so weird!" and then give them pretty human motivations, outlooks, acts and pepper it all with various backstories about how Ku'Gath was a shitling that fell into pot. Its not like there is any ambiguity to these stories so we can't even say "oh its just a legend", you're just given these like facts basically>>96772932I think its a poor argument especially in the days of modern digital sculpting. Even older kits like Spawn offered lots of weird and unconventional bits & ways of assembly. But I can see how its a problem of FB and its rank-and-file gaming, which Daemons honestly shouldn't fit into. I am not even strictly saying that each daemon should be *completely* unique, but they sure are too uniform even across different units. Most of Slaanesh daemon range is just barbie-with-hat situation.
>>96772935
>>96772935Are you talking about 40k crossovers with those universes or just straight up them dipping into publishing for other IPs?First is rancid, second is wasted resources.
>>96772945>in the days of modern digital sculpting.its more about spure space and the investment, like giving so much sprue up for something that doesn't really matter is kind of silly. Like we could also say every marine should be unique (there actually is a white dwarf about that from when plastic tacticals came out) with an aquilla on their chest that reflects their parent legion at the very least.
>>96772951Neither, just stories that aren't canon and explicitly exist in self-contained versions of 40k, fantasy, Blood Bowl etc. Like someone might write what the armor of fate failing to save guilliman would be like.
>>96772864It's the exact same thing that happened in 9th with the Codex creep, except they didn't go to the next step of adding ignores invuln abilities everywhere besides devastating wounds.
>>96772945I agree anon Daemons are the most mistreated faction in 40k
>>96772955NTA but I think what GW should do is make an internal (or fuck it publish it in WD) hierarchy of lethality vs survivability with the hard caps of what the game will accommodate. Not SvT but rather how armor is worse than an invul etc etc
>>96772953>like giving so much sprue up for something that doesn't really matter is kind of silly. You wouldn't really need to.Look at Malstrain Genestealers, they really sell "shuddering irradiated alien cockroach" vibe with their contorted poses.Look at Nighthaunt, they really sell themselves being ghosts with negative space blanket look.I don't believe those take much more sprue space than Daemon kits. What do Daemons do to contribute to themselves being quasi-real, shifting monsters? Nothing. Even C'tan have freaky pixel shit going on for them, Daemons just fall flat in that regard, not counting their looks being too uniformed. Why are Death Guard elites more varied in looks than Nurgle Daemon elites? Its just kinda ass.
>>96772935But they already do anonIf it's not a model, it's not canonIn fact with the casualty rate of eldar on tabletop, their inability to reproduce isn't canon
>>96772963
>>96772954>>96772947>>96772943I feel like people would beg GW to make them demi-canon through classic "haha Warp doesn't make sense" and it'd hurt the setting even further. The less Multiverse bullshit we have, the better. So fuck that.
>>96772962the two armies you listed are a decade and change newer than the daemon models which were done for that joint 4e codex 7e army book release (because chaos was and is the same)
>>96772968>The less Multiverse bullshit we have, the better. So fuck that.Isn't there already tons of it, like the eldar looking into possible worlds via foresight
>>96772968I largely do not care for the setting of 40K, if there are good individual stories to be told then yippie. But as I mentioned before, I’m largely apathetic to it.
>>96772976There is timeline fuckery yeah and they’re all ass so people forget it. Most of that fuckery of course includes thousand sons btw.
>>96772955Yeah it's just something that will always happen because to keep the codex hype cycle going codices need to be slightly stronger every time.In 9e the big problem was ignoring invulns, I'd say in this edition the big problem is how common and easy to get lethal hits are.
>>96772984isn't there a fuck ton of multiversal stuff for chaos too
>>96772985I think some things should ignore invulns, like the emperor's sword or drachnyen
>>96771827That model is way too busy.
>>96772976Foresight is fine, pulling shit from AUs isnt>>96772987Only a bit, thankfully
>>96773028whats actually wrong with multiversal stuff exactly?
>>96773042Requires writing talent to pull off well. The one that GW lacksExamples: Sunless Sea/Fallen London, Cultist SimulatorI wanna say Planescape but 1) its not really multiversal and 2) its not that great eitherIn short, alluding to and introducing multiversal stuff can be done right but it has to be layered under lots and lots of layers of obfuscation and mystery, in a kind of "people in-universe acknowledge some inherent weirdness, wrongness and inconsistencies" rather than what various authors commonly do with "what if labubu was infected by a facehugger?!" kinda stuff
I don’t even think multiverse stuff would stand out for 40K for better or worse.
>>96772900Same thing that happened when End Times killed most of sentient life for milenias. Disappear from the material world until new souls capable of emotions they represent appear again in big enough numbers.
>>96773068its explained that after the end times archaon conqueored other universes for chaos before arriving at the cosmos arcane
>>96773055from what I can tell theres been multiversal stuff since adeptus titanicus 1e
>>967730861) its a short blurb and not a plotpoint. Passable, doesn't really bother me2) it being old doesn't mean its by any means good
>>96773082We're talking about the galaxy. What specifically Chaos is doing somewhere else is irrelevant, only the general mechanics of how it works are important.Archaon is a """"""mortal"""""", so it makes him an even weirder case, since as long as a Warp shits him out somewhere he can function there (his powers are the real question), but demons are Warp based and thus tied to vibes of the place they're in
Dunno how to feel about tcg being cheaper than warhammer now.
>>96773095Theres something like seven quotes that win lose or draw chaos will just move on to another universe
> it being old doesn't mean its by any means goodI have a policy that I don't discuss quality here, because everything is shit. None the less it is an established part of the mythos
>>96773097Warhammer is absolutely cheaper than playing non-EDH MtG, just through $-per-hour-of-fun, assuming you're a hobbyist and not a tourney player. It's dozens magnitudes cheaper if you factor in 3rd party/recasts/etc.The initial entry can be bit steep due to supplies but supplies are eternal and there are a lot of eternal, unsquattable units that are core to 40k aesthetic as well. Not at all comparable to TCG with rotating formats.
>>96772924>>96772945Gods and daemons being shared between 40k and fantasy is fine. Their whole point is to be the primordial expressions of the base psyche of races. But they need to conform to the limitations of utimately being a miniature range. So they lack the variety of their fluff just like IG are mostly palette swapped Cadians. It's better in AoS, were they have been allowed to get more minis, but in 40k they compete for attention with CSM, the actual main baddies. So they've never been properly handled in the game.Other than that, you being upset about their design and being limited to main 4 gods is a (you) problem.
>>96773106I'm not saying they won't. But the question is what happens in this univers, this specific material relam Chaos is invading and where all the humans die off. They can move on, but they can't do shit here
>>96772935I don't care about canon in general. This isn't a warhammer exclusive sentiment.
>>96773097>buy plastic crack>half the models are black sculpted>buy cards for soi boys>half the cards are just black menWhat have we got to fight over?
>>967731224e core rulebook explained that if the emperor were to die there "will be no time no space only chaos"
>>96773136Well yeh, Chaos wins if he's not around and likely drags everything into the Warp where shit like time doens't function
>>96773112>warhammer is cheaper>It's dozens magnitudes cheaper if you factor in 3rd party/recasts/etcThen anything is cheaper than anything, smart guy.
>>96773115>Their whole point is to be the primordial expressions of the base psyche of racesShame they barely express that, especially in art direction save for rare few gems>about their design and being limited to main 4 gods is a (you) problemI feel like you're being needlessly deflecting in a broad strokes way without addressing any of the points explicitly
>>96773132Do people really only exclusively play mtg? Not even digimon? pokemon? yugioh?
>>96773146Takes a lot of money and time to dedicate yourself to even one of those at a competitive level. Which beggars the question why you would choose to become something like a competitive Lorcana player to begin with.
>>96773140Not really, 40k only has a stigma against proxies/3rd party in official GW stores and even then you can get away with a lot of things flying under the radar. Case in point: one anon from this thread got his army featured in fucking Warhammer World for a month, with a 3rd party Artel W miniature as a warlord, for a whole fucking month, until it was noticed.Meanwhile in MtG there is a fairly strong anti-proxy movement pushed by whales, because that hobby isn't about creatively assembling and painting your toys, its about mechanics and legitimacy of the stuff you bought.Curiously, there is a similar sentiment to 40k in China which is a little known fact, they really don't like recasts or proxies there, but thankfully its an oddball phenomenon.
>>96773140I mean his core point is still mostly correct. If you spend $200 in MTG cards you can do exactly one thing with them: put them in a sleeve, and play with them.If you spend $200 in 40k miniatures you have to assemble them, optionally kitbash stuff, then paint them, then base them, and then you can also play with them. That's simply a lot more hours of enjoyment, of course assuming you actually enjoy hobbying. But if you don't enjoy hobbying then it costs you a one time expenditure of $20 and you can play all Warhammer armies as much as you want forever.
>>96773146>even digimon? That shit has a card game?>pokemon? Some do, but it's way heavier on collectors than actual players>yugioh?Only black people play Yugioh
>>96773146Depends on your race unironically. Pokemon is played by kids and asians, yugioh by blacks and asians and mtg is played by whites. Digimon is probably played by asians but it's too small of a game to matter outside of asia.
>>96773153$200 in 40k is maybe a combat patrol and some paints and the tools to assemble them. kitbashing I dont really see that happening there that early.
>>96771827My last model Skipping this collage
>>96773160I'm not very knowledgeable on MTG prices right now but afaik $200 doesn't even get you a meta deck, right? Unless you go for the super budget ones.I mean, this hobby is expensive as balls, nobody is going to deny that. But I'd say it's still more creative and enjoyable than buying cards to play with them. The paints and tools you buy for your combat patrol will 100% last you for newer things you get, too.
>>96773152What stops me from printing MtG cards? What stops me from buying old decrepit MtG cards?>>96773153This whole point hinges on cards only being used for one single purpose, this speaks more about your narrow view of cards than anything.
>>96771827What was the collage theme again? I've been pretty offline lately.
>>96773097I mean, Warhammer is more expensive to get to 2k but it's way cheaper long-term. You get models and you can use them for 20 years, with TCG shit constantly rotates in and out.Still, GW prices are fucking retarded and they're inreasingly forcing people (mostly SMfags atm) to keep buying new models.
>>96773174Spooky
>>96773173What else can you use cards for? It's a piece of cardstock with an illustration in it. You can collect them and you can play with them, that's about it.
>>96773180>with TCG shit constantly rotates in and out.40k models don't rotate in and out? Isn't that the whole point of legends?
>>96773173>What stops me from printing MtG cards?Nothing but as I outlined there will be a plenty of people who wouldn't like that. Again, anti-proxy sentiment is far more prevalent in MtG whereas its basically non-existent in Warhammer bar official GW store managers. Noone will care here. Plenty of MtG whales will complain if you pull out a proxied Chains of Mephistopheles (700-1000$) or some other card, even a 100$ one.So yes, it creates a different barrier of entry unless you're playing kitchen magic at which point you might just play TTS for both MtG and 40k.
>>96773189not only that but you're not gonna want to keep playing the same list for 5 games in. Stillmania is a meme in the current warhammer environment.
>>96772942looks like an ai image.
>>96773189NTA but they rotate at a far more glacial pace and there are plenty of iconic evergreen models that owe their existence to iconic 40k units. You know, your termagants, necron warriors, ork boyz, genestealers, nurglings. Those datasheets are basically unsquattable and there will always be models for those, sooner or later. And you can use those older models as proxies for newer ones, hell you don't even have to really rebase them.Meanwhile you WILL get odd looks for trying to proxy your Forest as Gaea's Cradle. It's hardly comparable in practice.
>>96773188What else can you use miniatures for? It' a painted piece of plastic? You can collect them and you can play with them, that's about it.Not trying to be a cunt but there are a fuckton of other aspects to cards and I'm not even a cardfag: like simply the trading/value thing: we don't go around trading miniatures to get the right krieg grenadier or eldar scorpion.
>>96773201>What else can you use miniatures for?He already told you, its the process of crafting them yourself and painting them. That's what you use the unassembled kits for. The hobbying and personalization is part of the payoff, ideally speaking. Whether you like it or not, its an artistic hobby -which varies from person to person - but still. MtG is not an artistic hobby.
>>96773180>way cheaper long-term.>You get models and you can use them for 20 years, with TCG shit constantly rotates in and out. That's not even true anymore though. For either franchise Warhammer is working really hard to make old models obsolete and MTG has been largely overtaken by eternal format like commander.
>>96773192>Stillmania is a meme in the current warhammer environment.Social skill issue.
>>96773189Sure, but it's nowhere near as bad as tcgs.Cards from 5 years ago are just waste paper unless they're super tops, they want you to pay for pack filler that's completely worthless etc.Meanwhile almost all the eldar units that I got ~15 years ago are playable and relevant in the game.
>>96773208>MtG is not an artistic hobbyI'm sure there are people pimping out their cards/decks/cases.I think this is just an issue of not knowing much about card games outside of the surface level.
>>96773213>I'm sure there are people pimping out their cards/decks/cases.I apologize but I think people who draw their own art for their own proxies are an infinitesimal portion of MtG players and I don't consider people from mtg threads on here ordering AIslop proxies to be "artistic", sorry.
>>96772924>me when i fart on my asian boy princess
>>96773201What I told you. You don't even have to play the game and in fact many people are just in it for the hobbying aspect and have never rolled a die.You keep telling me there are other aspects to cards and you can't name them, except the elephant in the room: you can trade and speculate with cards, which is by far one of the most cancerous parts about that hobby, that secondary market created by the artificial scarcity of cards and something I'm extremely happy warhammer doesn't have.So you can play with them and you can speculate with them to make money.
>>96773209I played mtg before it was a thing but Commander was created by the community, wasn't it?It wasn't the way WotC intends for their audience to engage with their product. They embraced it and they're making money off it by constantly releasing new decks specifically designed for EDH with alternate arts for sol rings etc and they're still selling crazy well.
>>96773221I'm not a card fag, what I'm saying is that it's reductive and uninformed. If you were a big card fag who had decades of experience in that space then maybe I'd believe when you say "there's nothing much you can do with cards".Beside most people who collect barely touch the artistic+hobby side.
>>96773208>artisticMaybe it's just me but I think hobbying is more akin to a craft than art until the very highest level
>>96773217Sadly this is true.I alter my own cards and I know nobody else that does at my two locals.
>>96773246>painting isnt artistic actually
>>96773238I mean what else can you do with a piece of paper with an illustration in it? You can't name anything, I can't name anything, i don't think we need a guy with 30 years of experience playing magic to find out. There just isn't much, it's mainly a hobby about consumption and the main draw is the appeal of buying packs and getting rare cards, and then there's a competitive ruleset you can play with it.>Beside most people who collect barely touch the artistic+hobby side.I mean this is plainly false. There are lots of people with massive backlogs sure but the average person that has some warhammer minis has at some point painted and assembled some of their miniatures, if not they'd simply sell it off (which many do once they realize the time involvement required).
What Buffs did they give to Mechanicus that turned them from just barely better than Imperial Agents to 58% winrate?
>>96773256>I mean this is plainly false. There are lots of people with massive backlogs sure but the average person that has some warhammer minis has at some point painted and assembled some of their miniatures, if not they'd simply sell it off (which many do once they realize the time involvement required).
>>96773254Slathering some pigment on a plastic piece isn't art.

>>96773263>winratesI don't care
>>96773254I mean we're not painting lancscapes or portraits, it's essentially coloring a 3d object. Not trying to belittle it or anything, I just think it's more about skill than creativity which makes it more of a craft in my opinion.
>>96773269>>96773246I mean as long as art is done earnestly, art is art.A 5yo's macaroni picture made on Mother's Day is art.Miniature conversion & painting is far from high art but it is artistic. I understand having a personal barrier against calling it as such, I have one myself, but looking at it objectively I think it is.
>>96773263Well, first of all admech was never bad (after the first 6 month of their coded anyway). They have incredible secondary play and very cheap efficient units for trading with tons of 5++ and army wide stealth that make them a bitch to remove efficiently. Just nobody wants to play an extremely boring move block style Army that doesn't actually kill anything because it is extremely taxing and exhausting and time consuming to play correctly. Not to mention it's prohibitively expensive to actually collect and build and paint. Suddenly turning Cawl into an oath of moment dispenser massively boosted the output of the army. Not to mention even more tiny buffs to their shooting on their ironstriders.
>>96773280A good scheme definitely requires artistry/creativity and anything freehanded is objectively going beyond "3D colouring book" sentiment.
>>96773160People kitbash things out of a single combat patrol all the time, if anything a beginner is more likely to kitbash stuff out of the things they have on hand rather than purchase kits explicitly for kitbashing

>>96773417You aren't forced to play combat patrol because you bought a combat patrol, its just one of the many things you can do with a combat patrol of models. Most people buying them are using them for 40k army starters. Also a world eater or eldar player could kitbash whatever they wanted out of the parts, there's no rules to converting. It could be something really complicated and involve all sorts of other materials like plasticard, greenstuff, etc, or it could be something like putting an eight bound head on a berserker.

The Rogue Trader CRPG did a surprisingly good job at being grimdark without grimderp. Except for some ending slides. You often have to choose between "nice" or crazy dogmatic options, and if you choose the nice ones then something horrible happens a lot. You can choose to spare a planet from Exterminatus in Act 1 and if you then it becomes a daemon world. If you show mercy to mutants on your ship early in the game then it turns out they were corrupted by Nurgle. So in both cases killing them all and letting the emperor take his own was right. On the other hand the dogmatic side is pretty fucking crazy. They love to kill people for no reason or do other insane shit. Like to the level you would expect based on lore. So there is really no "good" choice.

>>96775040>>96775056That is very old lore anyway. The light of the Astronomicon basically is the emperor at this point. Or something like that, it's left ambiguous. From Godblight>How do you perceive the Emperor, when you look into the warp?’>‘I see no god or man. I see the great light of your beacon. From it comes pain, and suffering,’ said Natasé, uneasy for once. ‘Who can tell if what I see in the light is true? Our lore tells us your master ever was chameleonic. Maybe He is truly dead. Perhaps if you turned off your machines, then the light would die. It is impossible to say. Every thread of the skein that leads to Him is burned to nothing. His path cannot be predicted. He cannot be looked upon directly. Some of my kind maintain that He is the great brake on your species, yet its only shield, that He is the poison to the galaxy that might save us all, that He is not one, but broken, fractured, and properly healed and with His power marshalled again could outmatch the great gods themselves. Others say He is nothing, that the light that burns so painfully over Terra is but an echo of a luminous being long gone. We must judge His worth to our species by inference alone.’The light of the Astronmicon also burns and daemons/creatures of Chaos. It's essentially the emperor's psychic presence being projected outward.

Exactly what's going with the emperor directing the astronomicon isn't clear, which is what I was saying before. His presence can clearly be felt in it, which is why it burns daemons and his pain can be felt when you look at it in the warp.

>>96775114AOS/Old world would be even more dead if we had 40k skaven.
i think i would enjoy this hobby better if i was honest with myself that i'm probably never going to play the actual game again and just build models i find cool, which it to say switch to epic scale
>>96775114I think it would be fairer to compare centerpiece models to centerpiece models, and infantry heroes to infantry heroes.

>>96775491you are in good company then, GW themselves market themselves as a model painting company.the proportion of the audience who actually plays the game is small. I may try it when i have a 2k army but atm im happy just painting my models.
>>96775352>wanting to fight for a corpse or empires that don’t give a fuck about their people>the alternatives are playing eldritch horror or pirate murderfuckersThey’re right
Im an OK painter, but iv kinda given up on the idea that I'll ever actually play the game itself , because of work and family life schedule , painting a full 2k point army to an acceptable quality takes me literally a year and a half.
>>96775537i guess i convinced myself decades ago to collect warhammer since there's an actual game for it as opposed to just building model kits or gundamsbut really that's a lie and i'm just collecting models for the sake of collecting models

>>96775231You used Escher bodies for these, right?I think the biggest issue with them is that the legs feel bit too lanky compared to their arms.so I guess the best way to try fix them is trying to make the arms more proportional to the bodies.
>>96775569stop making me want to like stormcast.

>>96775575>Do you have a paint scheme in mind? Not decided on a full paint scheme, but the idea that I came up with and really want to go with is that I want to make Harlequin-type Drukhari. So colorful, diamond/heart/card patterns, clown-type colors etc.

>>96775624>>96775121It's actually incredible how all these small, minor details add up and change the overall sculpture. Both models communicate deadly intent and no doubt furious rage, but the model on the right has a more, "wilder," slightly uncontrolled fury.>lantern is hanging at an angle, it's still shaking from being moved>end of the belt is hanging out, almost flopping around>prayer strips and cloth tabard hanging out from a combination of wind and recent movement>some details are sticking out, like leather buckles on left leg and chestplate, and helmet laurels, purposely breaking up clean silhouetteMeanwhile there are some truly minor, "problems," with the older model on the left:>sword looks more elvish rather than black templar>missing the, "melee weapons chained to the wrist," thing of black templars, but this was probably not solidified in the lore yetThe big difference feature (you might notice it, but your brain did) that differentiates the two models is the different angles between the hips and shoulders. On the left, the hips are pretty much parallel to the ground, while the shoulders are tilted just a bit off-angle. Meanwhile on the right, the hips and shoulders are definitely not parallel with the ground at all, forming a triangle with a much smaller angle.Everything else, like the swords being tilted at a nearly 90 degree difference, the small tactical rock on the right, these don't make as big a difference as the hips/shoulder angles. The model on the left is calmly, but furiously walking into battle while raising his sword in a kind of salute to the friendly troops around him, while the model on the right is walking into battle but has briefly paused to salute his sword towards the enemy.Overall both models are great and would be indistinguishable at first glance to a casual viewer, especially if seen on a tabletop in-game from over a foot way... Except that the model on the left would be a fair degree smaller.

>>96775624>Emp's ChampRepostan this gorgeous paint scheme.>what's wrong with itThe left is a characterful pose: he's striding forward, leading the way, invoking the emperor, his head tilted: he's determined to slay the enemy. Even something as subtle as the sword edge facing forward or the armor being plain: he's an incarnation, pure. The right doesn't understand its origins. The sword is shown, brandished, but more as an item and not a tool; there is no promise of war or battle. He's raised on a tactical rock, immobile, a beacon, but a beacon of what? The hand is wrapped in prayer beads, but they are not clenched, he's not dedicated, certain, filled with determination. There is no point in arguing with people who don't understand why the old classics remain memorable while the newer toys are just "cool and shiny".That's why people can write paragraphs about why classics rule while the only paragraphs faggot write is elaborate yet vapid ad hominems.Like what you want, I'm not gonna pretend it's grand or even decent.
