I worried that it was too underpowered as I was writing the CYOA, but my reasoning is that it's akin to, say, a jedi blocking a laser blast- more a means of getting in closer to melee than a static defense on its own, but perhaps it can't even manage that. I do a lot of target shooting and considered it as a pinnacle of what a human could possibly do, but the sword's magic, so it should be able to do more. Just be durable enough an have regeneration and you can just shrug off their attacks or if your a magical precog you can just cast a spell where they are going to be or cast spells trough other means like sympathetic bonds, time manipulators can probably just slow them down. If you have a high powered instantaneous AOE attack like a death field or something that would work, domains that inflict curses, maladies or some other restrictions are also great.
