Apparently Tempestus Scions tend to be the go-to forces to rely on when the Imperium has to work with the Tau. Which makes sense, Tempestus Scion tactics, training, and equipment is probably the closest the Imperium is going to get to matching the Firewarriors 1:1 and they're very obedient troops.

Putting together my War Walker, I don't know anything about the rules. My instinct is to put the two circled guns on it, because they look the coolest. Does that make any sense by the rules?
Like, I don't want to put a short range anti-infantry gun on next to a long-range anti-armor gun and make a War Walker that has no clear battlefield role

OK I got the Eldar Combat Patrol, bought a couple lots of second hand models, and preordered a Harlequin Combat Patrol. This is what I currently have

Baharroth - 115
Lhykhis - 120
1x Spiritseer - 65

11x Guardian Defenders - 100
5x Dark Reapers - 90
10x Dire Avengers - 150
5x Rangers - 55
10x Striking Scorpions - 150
10x Swooping Hawks - 170
5x Warp Spiders - 95
5x Wraithblades - 160
1x War Walker - 85
1x Wave Serpent - 125
1,480 pts just in Craftworld

Solitaire - 115
6x Troupe - 100
2x Skyweaver - 95
Starweaver - 80
Voidweaver - 125
1,995 pts all told

Where do I stand in terms of actually having a proper Eldar army? Are there any things I'm severely lacking on or have way too much of for a proper, take all comers 2,000 pt army?

I'm not particularly great, personally I find lining up sharp lines along panel lines to be harder to keep neat because they want to draw the wet paint into the recesses. I really think you should give it a try. Start your line about half the width you want it to be and then slowly widen and straighten your edges. Even if you prefer the sculpted ones, having that practice in your back pocket will make even those sculpted lines easier for you to do super neat and also open you up to more options for fun details elsewhere

>Humans have souls and their (and everyones elses) emotional energy makes up fuels the Warp
>These Warp energies/daemons can manifest into real space via sacrifice or strong Warp storms
>Daemons can also be bound to weapons, these daemon weapons can be used without sacrifice and don't need strong Warp storms to function because they are physcially anchored in an inanimate object
>Daemon engines are also inanimate objects that anchor Warp power/daemons
>We see in daemon engines and some daemon weapons, that the bound daemon physcially changes the nature of the object they are bound to, flesh becomes metal/flesh metal we see on daemon engines. They become living beings made from non-living materials
Now is it possible to do any of these things without the Warp? Instead of binding a daemon into a sword/armour/ a gun we skip the middle man and just trap someones soul to make it function. Do all daemon weapons need actual daemons or can you just infuse the souls of people you kill, if they are strong enough like needing psyker souls and not average hive scum?

Pic related is a non-daemon/non-Warp energy soul powering a non-living frame but thats an eldar soul who are stronger psykers than the average human, or could we do this with a human theortically.

Wraith constructs aren't "powered" by an Eldar soul, they're animated by it. It's functionally just a body that the soul resides in, same as their previous flesh body.

Presumably humans could theoretically make something similar, but it's a level of technology and psychic control that the Imperium could probably never reach.

What's the difference between powered and animated here? Like the Wraith construct can't be 'powered' by anything else but a spirit stone? Thus only an eldar soul can animate them?
>but it's a level of technology and psychic control that the Imperium could probably never reach.
I agree, I was thinking of what the Darkmech could have discovered/invented over the last 10,000 years in the Eye with no oversight or control and every insane experiment only restricted by materials. Humans to sacrifice and souls being something they're never short on so could have figured out crazy soul shit

As I said, it's a body. It's not burning the soul for fuel, it's literally just a guy.
> I was thinking of what the Darkmech could have discovered/invented over the last 10,000 years in the Eye
Why would DarkMek be into that at all? If they want to stick a psychic force into a machine, they already have Daemons for that. If they want an intelligent machine, they can create an Abominable Intelligence. Using human souls would gain them nothing.
It would actually be a waste of resources, because human souls are valuable to Daemons. It's simply more efficient to sacrifice the humans to a Daemon to get something in return then try to fuck around with the human souls yourself.

Ah I see, okay I wasn't imagining the eldar souls being burnt up as fuel to power it fair enough they do animate it.
>Why would DarkMek be into that at all?
Cause 10,000 years is a very long time and if all the other dark mech mad scientists are bargining with daemons why would you follow treaded ground. Also allows you to cut out daemons who are always liars and trying to fuck you over
>If they want to stick a psychic force into a machine, they already have Daemons for that.
Yeah sure but what about putting psychic force not into machines or a weapon tools but just inorganic material. Daemons corrupt the forms of anything they possess but using human souls might stop mutation and allow for more stable forms of artifical life. I was thinking of darkmech trying to create their own version of Albinaurics and silver tears and mimics. Artificial life made from non-living material that can create new life that changes blurring the lines of what is and isn't a living being and that being the realm of mad science. Artifical created and engineered that could become organic life etc. And also the other way organic life that becomes inanimate, souls bound to metal frames that are controlled, just like rubric marines.

In theory yes, but putting a regular human soul into an otherwise regular sword or gun would likely have next to no utility. The the soul sitting in the sword would not have the power to manifest bullets or affect the blade strokes, it would just be serving as an inert soulstone with extra steps.
It is also worth understanding that, as the other anon was saying, the soul in a wraith construct is not the power source, it is the pilot. The construct is a robot with psychoactive wiring that allows the filled soulstone to control it in the same fashion a brain controls a body.
You could theoretically steal a soulstone or figure out a substitute, figure out how to shove a human soul into it, and then have it control machines with psychoactive circuitry, but that's very different from daemonic possession of inanimate objects, which works and is has a lot of utility because daemons are evil magical hell monsters that can just manifest their evilhellmagic through the thing their possessing.

I think that Daemon stuff and DAoT stuff already blurs the line between what is and isn't living.

Like, sure, it would make sense if there was some mad Magos out there working on human equivalents of Wraith constructs. But in terms of the established lore, the two big things that they do that separate them from the regular Mechanicum is Daemons and true AI. Both of which cover that same ground but more evilly. So there's no real gain for them in doing the soul stuff, and it's not thematic because it's just a less evil version of their defining things.

>>96779689
>the two big things that they do that separate them from the regular Mechanicum is Daemons and true AI
Fair point, we don't really see 'true AI' though that is nearly as unexplored as the darkmech are right now. Also the Mechanicum also uses true AI to a presumeably lesser extent than the dark mech but passes it off as just the machine spirit
>and it's not thematic because it's just a less evil version of their defining things
I disagree I think an artificially created slave caste is evil and fits their theme and shows actual technological innovation which the dark mech should have over the mechanicum that defines itself as technological progress and innovation itself as a sin.
>>
>>96779681
Brass paints, particularly gw ones I find pretty prone to separation. Most golds and brass metallics are a silver metallic with a tint added to the medium to shift it more yellow for gold, or more red/orange for brass. I find if you let a pot of gw brass sit for longer than a couple ears without shaking it that it probably is too far gone to bring back to life
>>
>>96779525
the spiritseer is pretty stinky, because he only supports 1 mediocre unit.

if I'm not bringing farseers and warlocks, I think I would rather have storm guardians than guardian defenders for the sticky objectives, but it's also detachment dependent.

dire avengers kinda suck, current rules and model wise, they're also competing for the anti infantry shooting role with your hawks.

*consider* splitting your scorpions into 2-5 man units.

hawks are great, even with the points nerf

warp spiders were the only good thing to come out of your combat patrol, you could use another one desu.

wraith units kinda suck, especially outside their specialized detachment. They maybe good in another edition, and they're really cool models, but they will be a constant source of disappointment for you in this list.

the voidweaver and skyweaver from your clowns are mid

Your stuff is a really mixed bag. you have no real anti tank, every knife ear is using fire dragons not only because they're competing for the best anti tank in the game, but also because elves don't have other strong options. even a single squad of 5 fire dragons would be a big boost.

Finally, I would really recommend reading your codex and then considering what detachment you want to play, because some of these units become MUCH better in their chosen detachments.

>Also the Mechanicum also uses true AI to a presumeably lesser extent than the dark mech but passes it off as just the machine spirit
Machine spirits are specifically ambiguous. They may be true AIs, they may be emergent consciousness born from ancient computers, but they may also just be actual spirits. Or just pure superstition. It's probably a combination of all four, varying from machine to machine
>I disagree I think an artificially created slave caste is evil and fits their theme and shows actual technological innovation which the dark mech should have over the mechanicum that defines itself as technological progress and innovation itself as a sin.

>>
>>96779732
Thanks for the info.

This is going to be my first army so I really don't know much about the rules yet. I was planning on running either the Aspect Warriors themed Detachment or the Harlequins Detachment, depending on if I end up picking up a second Harlequins Combat Patrol. It seems like I should really pick one and lean into it? Either get more Warp Spiders and and Fire Dragons, or get more Clowns

When I have 500pts painted up I'll start playing some learning games and hopefully be able to figure out where I want to go.
>>
>>96779779
OK but what's the point of specifically abiogenesis based on human souls instead of abominable intelligences? I don't see the thematic value in that.

If they want a horrifying slave caste, that's what Servitors already are. If they want to create new techno life, experimenting with AI is one of their defining traits.

It just seems like the idea is a solution in search of a problem.
>>
>>96779779
>That's pretty fucking primative and bakcwards compared to achieving abiogenesis, to engineer a new form of life that can reproduce on its own.
Admech doesn't need to do that since there is already a lifeform that fulfills their every need as a slavecaste, ie. other humans.

Like just say "They are the elite fighting members of the X regiment who hail from the planet of Y"

harlequins have rules for kill team, combat patrol, and can be ran in dark eldar and craftworld eldar armies, even getting a dedicated detchment in the craftworld codex, ghosts of the webway.

>>96779780
you can absolutely splash clowns into mosts craftworld lists. normal eldar are specialist, you’ll notice many instances of anti (like anti infantry banshees and anti monster anti vehicle fire dragons) most elves are only good into a few targets.
the clowns, specifically the troupe, are a good source of devastating wounds and thus is “anti everything”. It’s versatile which is rare in eldar, and that’s why they’re expensive.

if this is your first army, consider playing some games at 1,000 points for while. games go quicker and there’s half as much going on.

here’s a 1k list I wrote with the models you have:
lhykis and five warpspiders (powerblade array exarch) your fastest unit, deadly overwatch threat and infantry shredder. lhykis also had a crits on 5s ability the next unit loves

baharroth and 10 hawks. can delete most infantry units with help from Lyhkis and the war walker, but their grenade pack fly over and lethal hits can let them sneak wounds in on really tough targets.

troupe master and troupe of 5 players: couldnt fit the vehicle in, can make it fit if you cut five hawks

5 rangers - I never regret taking these

5 scorpions - you can tear up light infantry or throw them at the something really choppy to slow it down before it reaches your shooty units

5 dark reapers: great backfield shooting unit, nuff said

last:

war walker OR starweaver
i think both models bring something to this list

But they pretty much are that, but instead of a planet its the Schola Progenium and form regiments from that.
>>
>>96779880
Nta but I don't really see the relevance in that. They're in eldar now, whether they were a standalone army at one point is kind of irrelevant. At one point witchhunters were their own codex, and now they're in a soup codex as agents, but they arent going anywhere just because they used to be their own book

They are the best and strongest chapter, yes they are even better than Ultramarines. Bigger fleets, bigger chapter, stronger and faster. Logan Grimnar, the old wolf is so fast he decapitated multiple Grey Knights and their Paladin Grandmaster before they even noticed what was going on and then proceeded to one tap an Alpha Psyker Inquisitor. The Inquisition waged war on them and was defeated. The Inquisition now call the war "the months of shame" they got so fucked. All this because Space Wolves defended the innocent. >Buy our super compatible kits
>Somehow less compatible than kits of yore
Modern GW is so ass at designing that they created problems that they didn't have before:

You didn't need to pick Arm 55 to work with meltagun 39: they all fit. You didn't need specific arms for heavy weapons; the heavy weapons were designed as to use the same arms.

They're parading around this idea that their HH kits are super compatible and kitbash friendly, when they're by design only meant to work in a certain way and with worse results than in the past.

Just so that on paper they can say they have a "compatible range of kits". But everyone knows the devil is in the details.

Speaking of Freud/Jung I had a thought recently and I think I understood the vision now for what the Ynnead/Slaanesh thing was supposed to become. Ynnead is the Eldar god in their Pantheon that occupied the same place as Slaanesh, just like Khaine, Isha, and Cegorach stood in for the other four. But none of those gods are direct interpretation of those archetype, but a method by which to understand them.
Except Ynnead, who seems to be in opposition to Slaanesh in every way and is prophecied to "defeat" Slaanesh when they are born.
But Ynnead and Slaanesh actually form a duology of the two great driving motive forces: Eros and Thanatos. Seeking of pleasure and fear of death. Slaanesh the god of excess IS the fear of death for the Eldar race as a whole.
So their collective unconscious and dreaming souls in the infinity circuits has created a god analogue of Slaanesh that represents the way they understand their own driving motive force. Where once they were immortal and driven only by the seeking of pleasure now they are driven almost entirely by seeking an escape from their own ending. And so Ynnead "replaces and dethrones" Slaanesh within the pantheon of their gestalt consciousness as their God of driving motivation.

This is from the 5th Edition Space Marine codex and they haven't been heard from or even mentioned anywhere else since
>an Eastern splinter of a Tyranid Hive Fleet passed through this region where it became disorientated and twisted before heading towards the Orask system.
>In M34 the Pale Wasting occured, the few records remain of this event suggest that this threat was both a "Star-spawned plague" that swept across many worlds and as "Nightmare engines" that slaughtered entire sectors.
Lots of neat stuff

If I want girly army for 11th, which girls would be a better fit for goth bimbo style? Sisters of battle vehicles look nice, but I hate the penitent battleforce they have, not enough sisters in armor, same for the patrol, could have less whipboys, more seraphim or something. Also don't like the celestians have only halberd and maces, I would like more swords. Still, as the girl army, they stand out.
Other option I considered are drukhari, leaning heavily into wyches, reavers and scourges, but don't know how viable style it is, also the current patrol is more kabal, and not cult, which sucks.
Last option I thought about are aeldari, with the spiders (the leader looks awesome), banshees and harlequins.
Ideally looking for 500 pts start, about three kits, but with possibility to expand to 1000pts, if possible.

I’m not sure depends on the opponents army I guess as a dark Eldar player the only times I’ve thrashed necrons is when they went infantry/warrior heavy because of my anti infantry weapons.

>>96779982
I doubt that battleforce is that popular all the dark Eldar players have all that stuff already so don’t need to fork out for a big box that will need extra vehicles to transport them.

I doubt new players are turning to dark Eldar in droves when they see how little support. If you’re not passionate about Dark Eldar you’d probably pass on them.
Again it’s not the army’s fault it’s the lack of suppprt.

Cawl doesn't know the extent kd those flaws. He thinks its just minor mutations.

No, it's specifically not about the minor mutations at all.
The whole thing was specifically about the Wulfen and stuff like the Black Rage. Cawl is 100% aware of the fact that those flaws exists within the said geneseed lineages, he has worked with all of the 20 different geneseed lineages for 10 000 years.

The entire thing is specifically just GW saying and admitting that Space Wolves turning into feral, half human-half wolf hybrids is 100% intentional and the Emperor himself designed it this way. Same goes for the Red Thirst and Black Rage within the Blood Angels.
It is retarded by design and GW isn't joking about that.

>>
>>96781252
I interpreted it as the flaws are not just physical and there are other aspects that cause them, something either warp based or psychic. Or cawl is just retarded and didn't get all the flaws out because the gene seeds are all a mess that the emperor made in a rush to get his legions up and running.
It also doesn't help that the two that have the worst problems make their aspirants drink things derived from gene-seed which might affect the aspirants anyway.
Ba have Insanguination at the end of the process and SW also make them drink some wolf cum or something before they get any implants.
Now that I think about it, I wonder how much these practices fuck them over.

>Now that I think about it, I wonder how much these practices fuck them over.
It really doesn't.
For SW the Canis Helix ritual is paramount because it is the thing that specifically helps prevent the whole Wulfen shit or at least mitigate it a lot so the fresh marine doesn't instantly turn into a werewolf retard.

This is also why SW also send their youngest marines into the Blood Claws first because the "Wulfen-esque" shit is most pronounced within them because they are basically just out of the creation process and basically "just" got the Canis Helix. And they let them run wild and let them fuck up on their own terms, to help temper their aggression so they are more stable later.

>The Thieves of the Ice Mists (616.M39)- Upon the ice-locked planet of Fenris, aspiring Space Wolves recruits begin to disappear during their Trial of Morkai. Each aspirant has been implanted with the gene-seed of Leman Russ, and only the strongest have iron will enough to prevent it from ravaging their bodies and effect permanent devolvement into beasthood. The Wolf Priests notice that an unprecedented number of these aspirants are going missing and, after fruitlessly patrolling the wilderness of Asaheim, focus their scrutiny on nearspace. Sure enough, a Dark Eldar fleet is stationed above the ice caps of the neighbouring planet of Mydgarden. The Space Wolves mount a lightning invasion upon the Mydgarden ice caps, their Thunderhawks descending on tongues of flame to bring the last remaining xenos there to battle. The Space Wolves fight with the fury of the storm, but soon enough the Haemonculi covens garrisoned there fade away into the mists, their mocking and distant laughter receding into nothing. The Space Wolves find a series of white-capped chambers leading deep down into the planet's crust. Each is empty of life -- empty, that is, save for witless brutes of bulging muscle and fur incarcerated in tubular pods, some of whom resemble the Primarch Russ himself. The Space Wolves do not speak of this day.

So the guns on a bunch of the Eldar stuff (War Walkers, Wraithlords, the turret in the Guardian kit) are exactly the same barring some cosmetic detail, and are interchangeable as a result. Grab some 1mm x 1mm round magnets and magnetize all the weapons across your models. Two magnets work best for those large eldar guns.

No they aren’t. You can make a marine out of anyone still undergoing puberty. I think 16 is the absolute limit and the chance of geneseed rejection increases massively with age, but it’s still perfectly doable. Blangels, space wolves, and BTs all recruit from poverty stricken hellholes. If it’s anything like real life, there are plenty of 12-14 year olds who knock up some girl in their village/favela.

The Combat Patrol magazine in the US is starting to send out CSM stuff this month, and the CSM Battleforce being full of all the stuff I want from the army solidified Iron Warriors as my 2026 army project. Current plan is:
>Mush both sets of models together as the core of the army, with the sole exception of dropping the Dark Apostle (Doesn't really fit the theme)
>Combat Patrol already provides Chaos Terminators and a Forgefiend in the magazine so they'll be included too (The Forgefiend is meant for the World Eaters but fuck that I already have 2000+ points in WE stuff before adding the stuff I'd get from the Magazine)
>Disco Lord as the Warlord, Terminator Lord added to lead the Terminators & a Warpsmith added for the vehicle component
>Chaos Vindicator too because shit's classic + self propelled anti-tank guns are cool.

Contemplating on kitbashing the Terminators as Cataphractii if that rumor of a refresh of that kit next year is true.

Craftworld Eldar go extinct within the span of two decades as even efforts to paint them as Abhumans fail to stop Imperial leaders from massacring the them either out of prejudice or greed. Some manage to flee to Commoragh, where some 'lucky' few are able to integrate into Dark Eldar society while many more are enslaved and slaughtered by the Commorites.
Exodites are enslaved and used as expendable shock troops while their planets are stripped of all resources and turned into Hive Worlds.
Guilliman attempts to protect then through numerous decrees, none of which reach the wider Imperium who continue to kill or enslave Eldar on sight, interpreting the decrees in whatever way most benefits them at the Eldars' expense, if adhering to them at all.
Craftworlds are relentlessly hunted down and claimed by various Imperial groups, bamely Rogue Traders and the AdMech. The former turn the Craftworlds into personal pleasure worlds, enslaving the Eldar populations under 'Imperial Decree'. The latter simply enslaves and lobotomizes the Eldar populations into servitors before destroying the Craftworlds entirely, declaring them to be Tech Heresy.
Corsairs are driven further away and ally themselves to the Dark Eldar, who happily take on the influx of new raiders.
Within less than a century all Eldar outside of Commoragh are either killed or enslaved. Craftworld and Exodite culture cease to exist. Slaanesh is vastly empowered by the mass death of the Eldar, while Isha withers away to nothing which in turn allows Nurgle's plagues to run rampant in much of the galaxy.

If you're mixing in airbrush cup always put in thinner first. I do the 1:9 mix of thinner and flow improver seperately and store it in a bottle. So I basically go 5 drops of the thinner mix, then add 5 drops of paint, mix it and it's good to go. If I understand it correctly flow improver is esentially a drying retarder so if you put so much of it it will take longer for your paint to dry. You just want a touch so the nozzle doesn't clog. The consistency of paint should be kinda like milk - runny but not as much as water. You can obviously add more thinner if needed but 1:1 still works for me even for citadels """"base"""" paints which are supposed to be thicker.

GW updating the space wolves was a mistake. They should've just deleted them from the setting so all the furry retards would go with them.
Just write something like
>russ came back and all the space wolves and their primaris successors united as a legion, legion building is illegal in the imperium
>magnus also joins the party by coming over and releases a specially made super virus he collaborated alongside with morty which attacks the SW lineage specifically, weakening and killing many of them
>the entirety of the space wolves and fenris get extreminatus'd killing russ and most of the marines
>remaining stragglers were hunted down by the imperium for being heretics and mutants and tsons hunted them down out of vengeance

Would've been a better addition honestly.
