Which one is better?
Both are fake and gay in the shadow of the fighter/mage/thief
>>96798554eldritch knight is just a fighter who minored in magicand bladesinger is a mage who minored in fighter
>>96798523I personally like Bladesinger Wizard (2024 UA) more. The big reason for me is that the martial additions added to the Wizard baseline vs the magic addition to the Fighter baseline is night and day. A Bladesinger at 3rd level has drastically increased armor class values, and at level 6 (1 level later than fighters) is unlocking a boosted extra attack. Alongside having their casting stat used for weapon attacks. It’s really potent and makes the Wizard feel like a weapon user coupled with the fact that spells are so versatile. You can make a Bladesinger that’s specialized in whatever school of magic you want or a hybrid of a bunch of them and since magic is so powerful you can do a ton of stuff with that.Meanwhile Eldritch Knights (2024) get the scraps of a spell caster. Their spell casting progression is glacially slow: By level 5 an Eldritch Knight only has 1st level spells! A Bladesinger has 3rd levels! At level 7 an EK has unlocked 2nd level spells while the Bladesinger unlocked 4th level spells. At level 13 (A level of play most don’t reach) the EK unlocked 3rd level spells… the Bladesinger unlocks 7th Level spells at this point. To put it simply: The Eldritch Knight is a worse magic user than a Bladesinger is a worse weapon user.
>>96799916Fair, I'd have to agree. However, EK has a more unique RP aspect and can be extremely fun.I'd say EK is more able to be defensive and a frontliner, while BSW is more of a glass cannon. Both are fun, neither fully optimal for play.

>>96798523genuinely fucking hate the male bladesinger there. everything about it is awful. if I was WoTC I would sue and demand financial compensation for the damage that art did to my brand and the sales of Tasha's.
>>96798523Eldritch Knight is objectively cooler but Bladesinger is mechanically better.
>>96799916Truth. In addition to being more MAD than the Bladesinger, War Magic is just fucking pathetic. Eldritch Knight should be able to replace one attack with a spell of any level at least once per turn. Trading four attacks, or three attacks and a bonus action, for a spell that is only a measly 1/3rd the level of what the full casters can pump out, is almost never worth it.
>>96801927This.I just hate that it's INT prepared caster off the Wizard list. I have to run a Paladin/Sorc multi to get the same sort of effect with Charisma and it's almost objectively weaker, especially in 2024 where they fucking ruined smites.
>>96802996I'm surprised more people don't just houserule in Eldritch Knight variants. It seems like the easiest sort of homebrew to make to just slap on a different casting stat and spell list.
>>96801591You could boost your hp through feats like Tough, which is an origin feat. >>96801927I think both are cool and both can be very versatile flavor wise. Your bladesinger for example doesn’t have to be a dancer, you can have them be an agile magic swordsman and call it a day. I’ve had players basically just be Vergil with it.
