I need some insight, but we can have an overall campaign thread, and talk about the games we're playing.>What character are you playing?>What character you played last time?>What game are you running?>What game you wanna run, but can't get the people for?
>>96798590Now that I nefariously made this thread here is my bit.>Running a game of 3.5e homebrew. Sandbox campaign.>Party decides to go to the sky pirates, and steal one of their ships from them.>This is all in a Tortuga-style anarchic town>They've heard they are in town as a rumour, and didn't bother to learn anything about them>They have like 200 people>One of them goes to distract the pirate captain, who is busy overseeing the sale of their loot in port>Hits him with an aggressive sales-pitch how his cargo sucks, and he is in dire straits, but they are willing to buy them out>Hears the character out (great Diplo roll was on their side) who is just stalling here.>Captain is level 10>His Top 10 henchmen are level 6>The party are level 4 goobers.>Even the petty officers are level 4>One of them sneaked up to one of the ship and set the sails on fire as a distraction.>Fire alarms are sounded>Other party members began their loud assault.>It gets worse.>The ships are glorified zeppelins, and mostly use the winds, they are not self-propelled (Made sure I mentioned this more than once to them)>We are in a setting where it is not rare for people to have wings, and 40-50 ft of flight.>Especially among people who pick sky pirate as a career>They saw the damn crew, and saw that half of them have wingsI figure that all this adds up to the ships being slower than that, and mostly used as carrying weight around. So all this moves towards them fighting a fight where they are outgunned, outnumbered, and most importantly, have no real getaway. I asked them about it, and they were all on board continuing this suicide mission, and said if they die they die.Still, I can't stop feeling like I am the asshole here. But it would also feel wrong to go easy on them and have them get away with this zero-plan plan scott-free, some crazy coincidence.
>>96798601This is 3.5eKill them all and pull out Ghostwalk.Seriously, death doesn't need to be the end of the adventure. Have them continue the game as ghosts or in the underworld (Have you touched on the mythology of the afterlife in your game yet? Obviously it's easier to pull this sort of thing if you've got a blank slate to bullshit a new campaign premise onto).
>>96799050>Have you touched on the mythology of the afterlife in your game yet?Uh, yeah, about that. I might not have been entirely forthcoming with you. We're in Hell. The players are demons. The sky pirates are also demons.
>>96798601This looks like a tpk unless they give up.>>96799050Fair. But talk with them first if they even want to play the same characters. In all, sounds like you got a shitty, troublemaking crew, but I digress. I'd wonder about their commitment to a good story for sure though...
I've got two games going on at the moment. We're playing my homebrew, which started out as a grab-bag of ideas from different editions, but has gradually been assimilating OSR procedures. We've currently got two games going:The main adventure turned into a wilderness exploration campaign where the goal is to reach the ruins of a dwarven capital before an army of orcs does. It's been going for 10 months now.The second is "Everyone is Kobolds", which is a straight dungeon crawl. It's an excuse to run something a bit more lethal, as well as test drive the "declare actions then roll to see which side acts first" initiative system.

>>96802946That sound rad. How does a Supers system work out for a Sword and Sandals game?
>>96798590>what game are you running? After a year of prep/procrastination I'm finally running my passion project fantasy-with-mecha kitchen sink campaign. I started out character creation by making a bunch of character archetypes with their own unique mechanics and secrets tied to a few of the tarot major arcana and had the players draw a few and pick their favorite to play as which got people pretty excited. Most of the reason for the long prep time was programming my own auto fill character sheets for my homebrew adjustments because I'm running the game is Mekton Zeta for the mech creation rules and there was a 0% chance of getting my players through the custom mech creation process without automation but the existing auto ill sheets out there wouldn't work with my homebrew alterations. I'd talk about the setting but as soon as I bring up the apocalyptic tide of illusionist spiders that swept through the land 200 years ago eating knowledge and the educated people usually start to look at me like I'm a schitzophrenic.>>96798601If it's a sandbox campaign and there isn't a larger plot I see two major options, but both of them start with 'fuck it, give them the fight they're after'. Maybe they'll surprise you with their response and win or back down.Assuming they fight, either make this an epic finale knowing the party will die and try to make it feel like a satisfying conclusion; or if you want to keep going, have a loss mean that anyone who didn't die outright in combat is taken prisoner instead and figure out where to go from there.
>>96806231Quite well.
>>96802298>"declare actions then roll to see which side acts first" initiative systemHow did it work out? I remember doing that for a very short time when I rand Wild Talents.
>>96808788I like it so far. It's nice that the gameplay loop includes a dedicated place for the players to strategize. One of the quirks is that, in theory, a few bad rolls mean that the enemy side gets to act twice in a row. In practice, there's all sorts of checks and balances, but I'm by no means an expert.
>>96798590... didn't you post it like 2 weeks ago?
>>96812692Absolutely not, my session was last Saturday.
>>96798590>>What game are you running?DFRPGnow my problem is that my inspiration has run out. The PCs entered a dungeon last saturday, and I have to prepare it for the next session. But my head is empty right now, I can't think of a single thing.I need to recharge my creative juices somehow, anyone has any suggestions?
