Remember that time Victor Steiner Davion fucked and Impregnated the Kuritan Keeper of House Honor? It's like a Kentares that never ends for them.
isn't that a stormcrow?
>>96811678Don't forget the daughter of real Thomas. Man, it sure would suck to be a princess who missed out on that action...
>>96811678It ultimately caused a bunch of Black Dragon Society members to kill themselves, which is a net gain for the Combine.
>>96811683No. Similar cockpit but the old Nova design had no hips, just shoulderlegs.
>>96811656Oh man. That takes me back... that's artwork for the Nova from the card game right? I remember getting one of those back in.... 96-97? Something like that.
>>96811826yeah man
>>96811707>THE FCCW DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN
>>96811656https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7CALs2AlhZA
>>96811776I think the new Stormcrow design uses the exact same arm parts as the Nova for most configurations instead of the old one with those gun turrets with weird, human-scale gripper arms attached to the sides. On the one hand I hate how generic it looks now, but on the other I guess it makes sense from a logistical staining and fits with Clan mechs reusing lots of other parts like the legs on the Madcat and Vulture.
Okay, I admit it. I like mechs.
>>96811884hell yeah
>>96811978The Stormcrow and Nova shared arms from Day 1. Check the Stormcrow B, has an arm with six ERMLs and a hand for a reason.

>>96812013That CCG art is kinda rad.
>>96812011Gay. Join the 41% already. Mechs are unrealistic and the real focus should be on armor, infantry, artillery, planes, and artillery again. Science fiction needs to be realistic to be believable, and Mechs would automatically die to drones and leg shots.
>>96812288That's certainly true in today's world, but the benefits of a humanoid form being able to utilize a neural interface and artificial muscles better than traditional vehicles is enough to justify the costs once the technologies are mature enough.
>>96811656Why does the TCG art have so much SOVL?>>96811978>>96812184Something I really loved about the OG Omnis is that they were clearly modular. Timber Wolf and Mad Dog shared legs, so did Summoner and Hellbringer, Stormcrow and Nova share legs and arms, etc etc.
If the video games have taught me anything it's that the Nova not being able to torso twist would have lead to it being labeled as a shit mech
>>96812199I think you mean Warhawk C
>>96812288Jets and drones are imaginary technology, go back to your children books and leave discussion to adults.
>>96812332The Nova was the first Mech to have handholds for Elementals to ride. The no torso thing is probably a compromise to aid that.
>>96812200They had some 2000AD vibes to them for sure.
Stat it
>>96811965Would it be heresy to put spheroid medium lasers on it instead?
>>96812667I want to say two MGs, an ML in the CT, and what looks like an SRM-2? I could be convinced that the back pods house JJs. So basically it's a Wasp/Locust mix. Assuming there's a second SRM-2 on the other side that's hidden, let's say:>35 tons>6/9/6>10 SHS>7.5 tons of armor>2 MGs(LT,RT) half ton ammo>2 SRM-2s(LT,RT) ton of ammo>1 ML(CT)>6 JJs(3LT,3RT)So yeah, basically a Locust and Wasp smashed together.
>>96812711The thing on the back is also it's gun so i was thinking medium gauss boat
>>96812724Ah shit I'm blind, I was trying to stick to introtech standard, but it doesn't really look like an AC/10 to me, though I could say it's an AC/20. Fuck it,I'll just make it an AC/10.>50 tons>4/6/4>AC/10 with two tons of ammo added>Armor raised to 9.5>remaining loadout unchangedI'd say that works. I'm looking at the hands and admittedly I could see you tossing in a couple SLs where the holes are, though at that points it's getting a little thin skinned for my tastes. Then again it's not meant to be optimal anyway.
>>96811707There was even an in-setting rumor that Kali Liao raped him at some point, isn't there?
>>96812667Is that a mechsuit in Girls Frontline?
>>96812752Shouldn't be. Women can't rape men. Males can only be rapists, not victims.
>>96812756Yes
>>96811951>>96811951Honestly I blame Hanse. He was much closer to KSD before his death, and her yen for Victor was clearly transferred daddy issues.
>>96812752I don't remember that but wasn't there an in universe rumor that Sun-Tzu's father was actually Hanse using DNA samples that were still lying around from Doppelganger? And there's also the short story where Comstar made a kid using Hanse and Katrina's DNA in an attempt to destabilize the FedCom line of succession.
>>96812013>smile for the birdie!
>>96812865>Hanse and Katrina's DNAI just realized you meant his mother-in-law and got less excited.

Bit of a last minute thing but would anons want to see a Halloween themed grudge match next week? Was thinking of making it Ghosts (Comstar) vs Ghouls (Pirates)? I'd be running it via megamek.
>>96813904Sure, batreps are always nice. Will you pick, choose and balance the sides yourself or are you leaving it to us and the dice like the other anon?
An assault goes 3/5. A fast assault goes 4/6 and a slow assault is 2/3.A heavy goes 4/6. A fast heavy goes 5/8 and a slow heavybgoes 3/5.A medium goes 5/8. A fast medium goes 6/9 and a slow medium goes 4/6.A light goes 6/9. But a fast light goes 8/12 and a slow light goes 4/6? Are 6/9 lights really fast enough or should they have defaulted to 7/11? Would all the 4/6 and 5/8 lights have been better off as 40 tonners?
>>96813974Depends what anons want. Personally find it more entertaining to leave it to the anons and the dice gods.
>>96813994Depends heavily on the era and their role. By 3060's for instance I'd argue that 8/12 is in fact slow for a light.
why are the models so bad when the art and the videogames are so good
>>96814003So do I, but then you'll have to supply some sort of table or other rules for the roll.
Fuck Clan Ghost Bear, that is all.
>>96814065I got that covered. Just will wait to see if other anons are interested first.
Mechwarrior 5 made me appreciate this fella(or rather, 4 large lasers and an ac20).
>>96813904I'm interested if you're running it on megamek.
>>96812672If you called them "spheroid" then it's dezgra. Call them exodus artifacts or Kerensky's own, then it's honorable.
>>968139946/9/0 feels slow for a light mech imo, 7/11/0 should be the bare minimum and even that’s slow when you get into later eras; personally I think 7/11/0 is great for lighter mediums, not so much for lights themselves.
>>968142876/9 doesn't really feel faster than 5/8 when it comes to TMMs, you're still running to get that +3.
>>96814322I feel its more a case of getting the light into weapons range more than TMM. Considering that a fair number of lights don't really have weapons that exceed 9 hexes till later eras being at least able to squeeze a shot off before they get pounded can be worth the extra movement.
>>96814376At least in earlier eras there are no TMM reducing weapons, and all the 'long' range weapons are at least 5 tons besides the lrm-5.
>>96814189I see you declared a trial of possession for extra chromosomes and won.
>>96814322I said 6/9 feels slow, you should be comparing it to 7/11 if anything, and 7/11 feels much faster because you can get +3 on a perfectly straight walk and +2 with more wiggle room. You can even get +4 at a run with a turn or elevation change in there as well. A 6/9 mech has to run for +3 and can never get the +4. Also if you start mounting JJs 7/11/7 lets you get a +4 on a jump, which is huge.
>>96814138My main beef with the Atlas II is that its a generalist in an era where there are quite a few good other alternatives and also for what you are spending then you are likely going to want a specialist. Doubly so when it returns in the Jihad.
What are the best tac ops rules?
While racism against East Asians, particularly anyone of Japanese descent, became a thing in the Federated Suns, what about in the Lyran Commonwealth? To narrow down this question, if say, a member of House Steiner fell in love with someone from a noble house of Japanese descent based anywhere in the Commonwealth (New Kyoto prior to 3081 or anywhere within the Commonwealth), would their issue/s be eligible for Archonship or not?

>>96815237Something that looks like GACHA slop.
>>96815068I want to say no both because if I remember right New Kyoto is one of the more important worlds in the the Commonwealth and the fact that New Kyoto demonstrates actual Japanese culture in contrast to the Combine essentially being Imperial Japanese weebos. Rasalhague on the other hand become pretty anti Japanese after they became independent

What if instead of rolling for cluster, we counted degrees of successes to hit. Obviously, the clusters will have to be squished.
>>96815376Not a fan.
>>96815376I understand wanting to speed up the game, but...I think this would be a substantial nerf to IS LRMs? The sweet spot of 7 is already fairly hard to get reliably unless you move your LRMs last, which is a waste of an activation imo. This would also be a nerf to all cluster weapons in general.MOS rolls should be removed from the game entirely. I'm having a hard time remembering which mechanics even use them? Besides the older (errata'd) ECM sensor ghosts rules.

>>96818850Most what they actually did was nuke regular people and sometimes inter them in death camps. On Solaris they had all the best gladiators killed in rigged matches and then spent the rest of their time frying protestors and torturing people who spoke out.
>>96818887Depends on the world. I did appreciate a mere 2 divisions taking all of the entire MoC, and setting up re-education centers in their entire realm. Then the MoC magically getting a bunch of Manei Domini special forces after the war.Oh no, who's really in charge? Not that faggot princess Danai for sure.
>>96816749Reading over this right now, before I get to the new rules I read through the preamble and the following got me thinking:>Our main guardrail was that the game still had to play in the same general fashion. For example, applying cluster hits still follows the same process as always. Every BT veteran knows that this can be quite time consuming, and it could be made simpler—easily. However, we couldn’t find a way that was simpler but still delivered the same interesting ameplay results that cluster weapons give now, so we left it alone. What is a way to rework the cluster hits system? I usually don't mind it, but LB-20X sandblaster shots can be cumbersome to count if someone gets a high cluster roll.
>>96818916Just make a box of doom and that problem goes away.
>>96818916It takes at most 30 seconds to resolve doing it the slow way rolling them individually, unless you start making multiple crit checks, then it might take a minute.
>>96818916Micro box o' death with 8mm Chessex. One little rattle on the square maraca on a couple stacks and you got it.
>>96816749>Removing Side Hit Locations Does this solely apply to melee attacks or does it apply to any and all attacks from the right or left sides?
>>96817380I recently met a good friend's new boyfriend, and he was all talking about public works programs and how unemployed and minor criminals people should be made to join the military because it'll teach them work ethic and discipline and loyalty and whatever.I asked him if he'd been in the military. >>96818850>>96818887>>96818887>>96818894Something I liked about the Word of Blake is that they were so completely riven with factions. There were the mostly sane ones, and then there were like 8 completely different varieties of crazy, all at odds with each other.

Someone at CGL is sick of (un)lucky TACs instantly destroying their walking ammunition bombs.
>>96818958It applies to all attacks, ranged, melee, punch, kick, prone target.
>>96819045I guess I'm not terribly against it, but I thought getting a hit on the opposite side was rare. However, I looked at the Right and Left side hit location chart and dice results of 9, 10, and 11 hit the opposite sides. That's what roughly 25%? Higher odds than I expected, but I'm having a hard time remembering it coming up often...Outside of one time where I could not destroy an assault tank for the life of me in a match. I've since learned to disable tanks and leave them in the dust if at all possible.

So when does MW5 get fun? I'm at the level of having a lineup of heavies and assaults but every mission is tearing arms and torsos off even when they have 450+ armor, and then I have to go to an industrial hub to repair or wait half a year for the mech to be fixed. And it has to be a hub because blake forbid you repair mechs in any other non-combat zone. And then I'm also getting nothing but 3-4 mission contracts and if my mechs are getting so chewed up after one mission, how does this game expect me to play multiple back to back? And then it being a gamble if the "rare" mech or weapons on the market are what you actually want or you just wasted 100,000 c bills and 20 days. I want to like this game but it's just not there
>>96819092Such is the fate of all conventional fuckers. RISE ABOVE!
>>96819011>walking ammunition bombsAlso known as most of the designs in the game.>>96819092Don't play with vanilla initiative and low cost units. Frankly they should just rename the current system to dueling initiative and just go ahead with the other systems as their main one. Like all assets move first or activate all excess units before trading turns.
>>96819152I'm pretty sure the playtest rules includes frontloading initiative.
Thoughts on the Battletech Cookbook? Are the recipes any good?
>>96819105My best advice is to regularly rotate which mech your are piloting during missions. The enemy AI goes after the biggest threat which is usually the player because you rack up a way higher amount of damage dealt than your AI lancemates. Also learn how to send your lance in and adjust your own movement speed to keep you from sticking out too far ahead and catching the opening salvo of every fight. The whole repair system being mondo gay is a valid criticism though. I wound up with a lot of PPCs and LRMs in my lance because having a mech get seriously damaged was a very onerous thing.
>>96819296>jeet cookbookHard pass.
>>96819296Some good recipes, but googled from all parts of the internet rather than original. Fucking sucked when I paid for a Max Miller bespoke thing in the kickstarter.
>>96819296We actually did a night of this a couple of weeks back. The GF and I cooked (she's also the GM of the campaign we're running) and in total there were 5 of us.Kinda seafood themed as it turned out.Wolf's Rangoons: They were alright. I've not really had much in the way of crab before and while they were not bad they kind of tasted like salty mud to me. Panko Crusted Fish: Fucking 10/10, she knocked it out of the park with this.Davion Dill Pickle Rice Salad: Was.... interesting. Very refreshing? Absolutely a summer-style salad, I genuinely don't think i've ever had a salad like it.Magestrix's Famous Lemon Bars: They were amazing with cream warm or cold. Extremely good, kind of a fuck around to make.Brouhaha's to drink: My BiL and myself really like sour things and this was really nice. I personally couldn't taste the alcohol but that suited me fine, it was like a potent lemonade. If I ever have it again it'll probably be over shaved ice, a very nice Summer drink imho.
>>96819011>Someone at CGL is sick of (un)lucky TACs instantly destroying their walking ammunition bombs.G O O DOODExisting ammo explosion rules are fucktarded and anyone who thinks they shouldn't get changed should be physically beaten and cast out of the game community.
>>96819105>So when does MW5 get fun?Solaris Showdown is mandatory
What designs do you think would benefit the most from going tripod? Personally, I think something like the Longbow could use it since it's so slow that turning on a dime really helps its movement, and it has multiple long range launchers which a tripod could split fire with no penalty.
>>96817279Less like walking tanks and make them look faster and more agile. It's a fast ADHD world and mech designs should reflect that. Nobody wants to watch a mech walk slowly forward to get in range of something. AI can make that happen, there's nothing interesting about it. My dad introduced me to an old anime last month while I was having to spend a bunch of downtime at work. The animation is mostly bad, but it actually had a pretty good story. Its mech designs looks way better than the mechwarrior 5 stuff. They're a good mix of big hulking gun platforms, but also really fast, agile stuff what can do flips and handstands and actually hold people's attention. Plus, they transform, which is really neat, actually. That lets you sell 3 minis in 1 blister pack. Show is called Macross, and I think Battletech could do a lot worse than take a mix of design cues from it, instead of this boring walking tank thing they have in the video games where the arms can barely even move.

Anyone have experience getting people in classic (TW) BattleTech? I'm having a hell of a time finding people to play with here. I'm a bit of a rookie myself so that makes it even more difficult to set up demo games. There are a couple local guys but they're kind of whiny pricks. The other "players" exclusively play Alpha Strike on the few actual occasions they set down the Warhammer shit and play BT.
Imagine the smell
>>96819736Imagine google mapping each planet trying not to find garbage/shit everywhere…
Ordered my abomination minis lads
>>96819724I'm in a very similar situation, except where I live no one knows what a "BattleTech" even is. Here they only know Warhammer, Magic, and Pokemanz.I'm gonna invite a friend over in a week or so to teach him how to play. If he likes it, my plan is to invite him to play at local game shops with me so that we can hopefully attract some onlookers and start spreading the word a bit. It's far fetched but since it's a big city, I figure I might find a few people sooner or later who may want to learn how to play.
>>96819768Gonna have fun painting these
>>96819778I live in a big city as well and it's shocking how difficult finding players is for anything other than Alpha Strike is. (And even AS players are extremely lacking.) Just sucks because everyone is trying to get me to play Warhammer but I really just don't care about that universe and I REALLY don't want to empty my bank account for something I'm not invested in. I just want big stompy robots with turbo autism levels of simulation.
>>96819805You know, it's funny because Warhammer is infamous for having a ridicioulously high cost of entry, while Battletech's is on the fucking floor. You got a paper, marker, and 2 d6? Congrats, you can play Battletech...But if you want to spread the word to someone that doesn't know literally anything about BT, you're not gonna show up with a hexmap drawn in sharpie with all hand-made paper standees. Gives a poor impression. You're gonna want nice minis, nice maps, accesories, the works. That way you catch some eyes. Shows people it's something worth investing in. But you lose the claim to having a low entry cost. Kinda sucks man.
>>96819724The idea is always to bring em in with Alpha Strike, then ease them into classic.I'd recommend going after the alt wargaming guys (historical, infinity, etc.) as well for games
>>96819882>bring em in with Alpha Strike, then ease them into classicPeople that like AS don't map to people that like Classic in my experience. In a similar way, people that like Classic don't map to people that like AS. If anything, they get the boxes of the other one for minis but that's it. However, my sample size isn't high
>>96819724Yeah.My housemate and my GF had never played before, we had the benefit of having two turbo-autists (myself and my brother in law) who know a lot of the lore off by heart. It really helps if they have someone they can ask about anything and talk with them at length as well as guide them through stuff. (IE: Play Clans if you want, but if you're a WAACfag you're gonna get punched and have noone to play with)Enthusiasm and wanting to 'do' things together also helps. Hell, even if you just sit down and paint mechs together thats cool, even if it doesn't work for everyone. Run a pseudo series of games that are related. Get them invested in their merc units or factions. Anything.
The more I play with BA, the more I wish that battle claws enabled melee and heavy BA could do swarm or leg attacks. These big brutish units with huge angry claws are functionally just turrets that can be moved around via omnimech taxi, and that's stupid. Vibro-claws should get a bonus to melee any claw can do, not enable the ability to melee at all.
>>96819837$60 for AGOAC (two complete forces of minis with mapsheets and basic rules) sells the game pretty well
>>96819778>>96819805>>96819988>>96819724I brought my girlfriend and a friend down to play Battletech at a local game store. First time we were there, nobody knew what it was, not even the staff. By the second or third time we were there, people were coming by and asking questions, or talking about how they used to play back in the 90s. I got on the game store discord, mentioned it a few times, and after about six months of playing once or twice a month and offering to teach other people, I was there last weekend and saw two other groups of two people playing battletech. This store went from having no battletech scene to having six people independently decide to play on a single day, and all it took was just consistently showing up to play a game in public instead of at home and talking about something I like with interested strangers.
>>96820216My game on Monday was mostly defined by CLPL spam, but we had a total of 18 people playing at the shop that night, including the guy I did a demo game for after my main game ended. He bought AGOAC afterwards, so that was a success.
I'm kind of surprised that it looks like the Striker is more common with mercenary forces than the Scorpion. Then again, the Scorpion never really gets rid of its poor craftsmanship, so I guess the Striker seems like a better choice. Especially if you already have Vedettes.

Most of these 'official cookbooks' are just some dude's generic burger or pasta recipe pulled off Google with flavor text like "oh it's Davion-style meatballs" or some other flimsy excuse as to why this food fits into the given universe. You could probably take any of those books and swap the text or recipes around and nobody would even be able to tell the difference. The one exception I've seen was a Jurassic Park cookbook. While it absolutely contained the basic stuff like "generic burger recipe #9000" they did have a few things that leaned into the whole dinosaur thing, especially the desserts. I think there was a cake with like a T-Rex footprint in the top and then you filled the hole with blue Jell-o or something, idk, might be mis-remembering. Point was they actually did something with the theme and I'll bet any kid that liked dinosaurs would go absolutely feral if you showed up with something like dino-fossil-cookies to his birthday party. I'd only consider the book worth it if I was at that stage of my life, otherwise I feel like the novelty of dinosaur recipes would be wasted on me.
The cookbook maker was so lazy they did not even calculate the ingredients for either metric or imperial measurements. Just copy and paste what was on the site.
How do you deal with an introtech hunchback lance? Say a 4G/P/SP, 4H, 4J, and 4N. It's a heavily armored, fairly cheap, 4/6 blob that can throw out damage at all ranges and gets more murderous as you close in.

>>96826816Any speed. XLs give you great value. Yeah, more crits and death on ST kill. So what? You get more armor, more speed, and/or more guns, in whatever combination you fancy. When coming up with my own builds I will try to use Light Engines if I can live without the 25% weight, but if not I'll still take the XL. We play with a modified version of forced withdrawal so shambling around in a zombie mech doesn't happen too often. The only time I'm not so keen on an XL is in campaign play where I have to worry about how retardedly expensive they are, but I haven't been in a campaign in a long, long while so whatever.
>>96826816Clan XL's can be shoved in regardless. While you'll be eating 10+ heat every turn you'll be fine.Same with IS Light XL's just shove em in.I have a hard time to justify IS XL engines even when it comes to the fast stuff as you just die but I'll still use em because honestly fuck it. Sometime that extra weight can make a difference.
>>96826941There's only one scenario in there, but since abominations don't have BV yet you'll still be eyeballing it. The attacker gets up to 10 units pulled from the Gothic box or faction related MUL, the defender gets 80% but also abomination pens on the board that the attacker is trying to destroy and which can release abominations on the defenders side based on an end phase roll. It has optional chaos campaign objectives and modifiers but is otherwise generic.
Looking for some 7/11/7 alternatives to Assassin and Wraith, including clan stuff. Recommendations?
>>96820443>>Thanks for the cook report etcNp anon.Campaign is three 'low level' merc units that rocked up to a planet with a union dropship each. That's all we get, and now we're neck deep in a conspiracy on a pirate world that only has the pirate milita to defend it against an unknown, highly organized fanatical force that has been proven to NOT be Comstar, and we're currently not doing so great. The last three missions ended in (very generous) Draw, Draw and a Loss. So far i've lost 2 pilots. A Dragon to a LL headshot in the first game, and then the first Draw mentioned above I lost a Crab to an AC10 headshot. Had several mechs named so far: Crab was Crabbo the Stabbo because in one of the first games all it did was melee the shit out of things. Literally pancaked a locust against a cliff wall, which was great.Zeus: Gandalf because it stood on a narrow ridgeline with one approach and kicked the shit out of everything that came near it.Guillotine: Ogryn because it nearly killed itself with a headbutt of incredible violence (cockpit was down to 3 str remaining) doing a charge against an enemy mech.Black Knight: Revenant Because try as they might, Opfor can't kill the fucking thing. Its been almost completely stripped of armor in six games and still won't die. Nightsky: The second Draw above the Nightsky accounted for 5 kills out of six mechs I killed. A chamelon got the 6th. Not sure what I'm gonna call it. Kharn maybe because it was in melee the whole time.
>>96826999Spector 6F.Its a 8/12/8 with Clan Tech Weapons, medium VSP.Max armor for a 35 ton Light mech, the only issue your going to have is the massive amount of heat this thing will build up because its also stealth tech as well.If you don't want the heat issues the 5S and 5F variants are also there for you to use.
>>96827108Correction the 6F doesn't have stealth but it does have reflective armor so nice against Pulse lasers.
>>96827063Sounds like an epic campaign in spite of the difficulties your mercs have been dealing with. Again, I REALLY wish I could join ya!Is this a Chaos Campaign? An RPG campaign? Or something else?
>>96819623It's honestly hurtful you think this is bait. Those Mech designs are genuinely pretty cool, and seem to make a lot more sense mechanically than the plastic minis CGL puts out. They look like they'd fit in Battletech really well.

What book do I need to read to find the rules for ejecting?
>>96827690Gemini says Tac Ops p196.
>>96827690TacOps, but don't bother, because they're completely shit rules. You can't even eject from a crashing plane, since crashing happens during movement and ejection happens in the end phase (auto eject is any time but only happens in the event of an ammo or engine explosion). The rules are total shit and you should just write your own.
>>96827539>battletech is a dougram knockoff, not macross!
>>96827704Wasn't there a case during some balancing questioning where they admitted that they simply do not test optional rules, they just write them and put them in the book?It would explain why there's so many examples like this.
>>96827782Yes. The Stalker II.Actual formal playtesting never happened at CGL outside the LAM project, up until the leaks by Xotl a few months ago. Game companies don't "playtest" as we understand the term. It's not playtesting to find and fix bugs and typos and program QA in software development. It's literally, "play a few game and see if it works the way we wanted it to; anything else is a bonus, you have 3 days to get back to us with any problems."
>>96827157Its a 'stand alone' set in roughly 3050-3060, realistically its post clan invasion pre-FCCW we've just fudged a few dates for when things happen that are realistically unimportant to the wider inner sphere. Its turning into an RPG campaign, we've fought enough battles at this point that we're now looking to elect a 'man of the match' so to speak and that specific pilot gets a bonus to their GSR/PSR from then on out. Only one of our pilots from the three people who are playing the game gets that point and only if there has been a specific standout. Otherwise, everyone's been rolling as 4/5's.Technically I have insider knowledge because while the GF is very good at running things, she doesn't know the lore like I do so we've built the whole thing together even if she's playing OPFOR. If we can pull it all off there is a massive payoff at the end... assuming we survive to see it and don't kill eachother in the process. There's a bit of friction between the merc units. My guys are typified as 'We like the most standard of standard mechs, and we're super aggressive with them' so I get into melee a LOT. The next player loves his 'exotic' and rare things and is incredibly damage averse. The last player is fairly new and trying his best but players 2 & 3 have known eachother for a long time and he follows player 2's lead a lot... which is frustrating when i'm rolling up a flank with 4 50 ton mediums vs a pair of assaults and 4 lights and winning, and they're fuck arsing around the other side of the board together jump-jetting all over the place. Its still real good fun though. I can't wait to play more.
>>96811678>>96811718You forgot to mention that the Black Dragon Society actually ENDORSED Kitsune as the next coordinator, that's why they all committed sudoku when the news dropped.
>>96827782They probably are just lazy about them in this day and age, but a lot of older games expect you to adjudicate stuff like that on your own. Some of them even had GMs by default to facilitate hidden units and unusual game actions (like shooting at the cliff above an enemy to cause a rockslide on them). Deep down, Battletech is still that way. The official rules as written way to determine force composition is to select or create a scenario and then choose what forces will be fighting it however you feel like doing that. "BV2 balanced, rules level or era limited" is simply the most popular way to do that. But you have to actively choose to do it that way. It is just as legal to play 52 card pickup with Alpha Strike cards, or copy the unit composition you see in a novel, or use a RAT, or just arbitrarily pick units with no balance in mind at all, as long as whatever you do matches the scenario you plan to play.
are there spoopy things in battletech?

How can I rotate a map in Megamek so that it is laid out with North on the left side and South on the right side? Is that possible?
>>96828609No, you can only rotate the map 180 degrees. You will have to make do with changing deployment zones.
On the topic of ammo explosions doing retarded amounts of damage, I think I know why. I was on Sarna reading the lore of SRM/LRM's and it mentioned some magical bullshit explosive metal that made up the body of the missile and thus making SRM/LRM's do as much damage as larger missiles. That got me thinking, "what if autocannon shells were made of the same bullshit material?" And it suddenly clicked, why machine gun ammo detonates like a fucking bomb, because the bullets and by extention autocannon ammo is just metal high explosive waiting to go off? Maybe I'm just tired and my brain is being retarded, but I'm throwing the idea out anyways.
>UzielI was looling at the RS and it looks shit. Is it the vidya nostalgia that this mech is popular?
>>96828757Considering how short ranged machineguns are compared to autocannons, the explosive payloads in machineguns would be substantially more than what's in an autocannon shell. A good portion of what's in autocannon ammunition would still be the propellant and shell. Machineguns are also supposed to be large bore, compared to standard infantry weapons.
Are missile ammo bins size specific or can you reload from any bin if it's the same type?>have SRM-6 and SRM-4Do I NEED @SRM6 and @SRM4 or can I just do one srm6 bin? Like, if my srm4 bin is destroyed, can I reload from the remaining srm6 bin? I understand them to all be the same type of missile.
>>96828824I have no idea why it was popular to begin with. Even in vidya its a pile of shit.
>>96828757Ammo explosions do as much damage as the ammo remaining in the bin, the reason it feels like more is because you don't check clusters and it's already inside your armor. If you had one volley of LRM-5 ammo in an exploding bin, the explosion would do exactly 5 damage.

>>96830229Out of universe maybe (the J. Edgar hovertank is definitely a pun on J. Edgar Hoover), but not necessarily in universe. The in-universe justification for the J. Edgar is that it's named after its designer, and the similarity to the name of a historical person is just coincidence.
>>96830143High Explosive: Half the ammo of standard, cut the range bands, but double the damage of each round. The extra damage is applied as “splash damage” to adjacent locations on the damage transfer diagram (excluding the head). Hitting an arm or leg applies only half the extra damage to the attached side torso. Hitting a side torso location applies the extra damage split between the adjacent arm and the CT, and hitting the CT applies the extra damage split between both side torsos. Damage is resolved with the main hit location first, then from the outside in. Examples: A High-Explosive AC/10 round striking the Left Torso would deal 10 damage to the Left Torso, then 5 to the Left Arm, then 5 to the Center Torso. A High-Explosive AC/2 round striking the Right Arm would deal 2 damage to the Right Arm, then 1 damage to the Right Torso (the remaining group of extra damage is lost for hitting a limb).

(+4 at medium range, +8 at long.)Mechs which are struck by demolition shells must make an additional PSR to avoid falling. (-1 for AC/5, +0 for AC/10, +1 for AC/20)
>>96830262Don't mech quality ratings technically have rules for this already?>>96830272Considering the vehicle and person are known for wearing long skirts its a very big coincidence.
>>96829188How is that unfortunate? 6/9/6 means you can run with 2 turns and still hit +1 differential between AMM/TMM (acceptable).>2 ppcs + running, +20+2-20>+2 heat>repeat for another turn>+4 heat>PPC + SRM6 + running, +10+4+2+4-20 >heat neutral, stays at +4. Obviously just don't fire the SRM6 if you wanna reset. Perfectly usable firing pattern. Can easily push heat past this if it wants, just jump away behind cover if you've pushed it into a bad movement penalty.
>>96830143Was thinking about something that doubles the stability damage of each shell so something like an AC/10 can trigger a PSR on each hit but I can't think of a way that will be balanced in a way that's fun for everyone involved.

However, after a dozen of episodes the repetitiveness, the main character's incredible plot armor, and the cheap animation hampering the action started grating on me. I stopped soon after.
My heavy ASF pilots in my megamek stratcon campaign get more kills than any of my mechwarriors and it's not even close. I don't know they can even fly with all those medals weighing them down. Insanely useful just as CAS, the system doesn't even show their huge value for scouting, void operations, etc. I think I'm becoming an aerospace supremacist, the Outworlds Alliance has the only doctrine that makes sense.
>>96830942Welcome to BomberTech. We have brandy and a choice cigars after every successful run.
>>96830927Yeah, it's still an 80's mecha anime, with all the highs and lows. Even the best ones usually go a little too long. A lot shine with their movies and ovas or original manga, if they have one.Dougram doesn't seem to have much else going on otherwise. Just an untranslated manga by the thunderbolt guy. What a shame.
>>96828319The logic behind it was likely inspired by the "jack-in-the-box effect," specifically from tanks blowing their tops off after a penetration causes an ammo explosion. We can argue about how retarded tech is in the BT timeline, but that's a deep, deep rabbit hole. Back to the playtest rules at hand, >Machine gun ammo is making enriched plutonium blush on how much it explodesI'm inclined to agree that MG ammo is stupidly damaging.I wonder if some middle ground could be reached by setting a different maximum per ammunition type...but that's probably much too fiddly. >random TAC's are really a bullshit mechanic that needs to go the fuck away.Again, I'm fairly used to it and it rarely happens (at least in ways that matter) in my experience, but if the dice are being fucky it can be bullshit. A possible solution could be making TACs more difficult to confirm? For example, if you have a TAC opportunity you have to roll on the crit chance table at a -2?Thoughts?
>>96830992>>96830942The fuel-air bomb is a perfect killing tool that works against everything on the ground, including things that are otherwise incredibly annoying to kill. Infantry? Gone. Battle armor? Gone. Vehicles? Crippled from volume of hits, or gone. Turrets? One of the only way to make them go away fast. Landed dropships? No way to put more damage on them faster than with bombs. Mechs? You better believe that there's an amount of bombs that will make them disappear. Custom up a heavy with so much armor it's practically round, put a good pilot in it (ideally with the SPA that makes them even better at ignoring the regular piloting rolls they'll make), fill them up with bombs and watch them make back their value turn one then come back for extra.
>>96830942How in the fuck do you bomb in megamek? I don't know if it's broken on my version or what I'm doing wrong because I can never get it to work

>>96831051>>96828319I'd like it if ammo exploded in 20 damage chunks, but you have to roll every turn to see if your fire suppression system works and puts it out.
>>96831007After giving it up, I looked up if there were any remakes as the show seriously needs it. I stumbled onto the manga you posted which looks promising, but yeah it's never been translated and it doesn't seem like it lasted very long either. Maybe only 4 volumes? Such a shame, there's so much good shit in Dougram that deserves another shot with better production values. Maybe one day I'll grit my teeth and work through the rest of the show, because I want to like it so, so much more. I occasionally play the ED in my car.

>>96831075Fly over where you want to bomb. During shooting, don't use weapons, right click to select the target hex, use the target hex (bomb) option. You can dive-bomb one hex, or altitude bomb a line of hexes, selecting each then using another "altitude bomb" weapon. It's a little janky but it works fine. I'm on version .50.03, haven't updated in a while.

>>96829233You also need a lock on to fire SRMs. They aren't dumb fired, they have targeting electronics in them. They cost 30k a ton like LRM ammo. The difference is that you can fire them without a complete lock on if you want, which is an in-universe reason a lot of people don't like SSRMs, considering they just don't fire unless it has a perfect lock, period

>>96831779Sarna think they need to "protect the brand" and are more interested in doing whatever they think that means than being a resource. They've been removing rule snippets on copyright grounds despite the game rules being impossible to copyright and them still having entire copy pasted sections of very copyrightable fluff on the same pages. They don't even gain anything by doing this, they just hope they might get access to some company news early at some point in the future.
>>96832021I was told the rule removal thing was so they don't have to update the rules with errata, just point to where they are.
>>96832070Maybe that's the excuse they pivoted to after it was pointed out that the copyright thing is completely backwards, but I don't believe they have any good reason to remove them at all. Slap a "this article needs to be updated with information from [product] after the moratorium period" tag on it and let some unpaid community editor fix it.
Since we're talking about sarna, has Sean ever posted an article that is factually correct and not Clan furry fanboyism?
>>96832070Thats a lie.Its been stated several times the main reason why they are removing the rules is that they don't step on Catalyst toes for some reason...Even though citing rules isn't plagiarism.
>>96832097Sean is a compfag and is not to be taken seriously.
>>96832097What do you expect from the alpha strike only secondary cuck?
>>96832098Rules are actually the least protectable part of the game. The names Battletech and Mechwarrior are trademarks, and the fluff is copyrighted, but the way rules work is a matter of practical function and therefore their base functionality can only be patented (and any possible patent has long since expired). The exact way they are written could theoretically be a matter of copyright, but since they use basic terms like "attack" and "damage" arranged in an order that's based on function, that copyright will be incredibly weak and even if it is enforced, can be circumvented by rearranging some words. The whole paragraphs of fluff they copy directly from sourcebooks is an actual copyright violation that could get them cease and desisted or sued if Topps felt like doing that.
>>96831779What weapons are they deleting?
It seems odd to me how few designs use small pulse lasers for their anti-infantry bonus. I guess BA became an issue around the same time so it wasn't as important, but still, one SPLS is better than a machine gun unless you're constantly riding the razor edge of the heat scale.
>>96832342How many infantry does it kill?
>>96832241Some of the ones I were looking at were auto rifles, sniper rifles, and pistols. The deleted BA PPCs a while ago for no reason.
>>968323882d6 just like machine guns, at the same range but with the pulse hit bonus and 3 damage instead of 2 vs everything else.
>>96832342That was my read on the situation. SPLs are rediscovered just as Elementals show up. Anti-infantry doctrine shifts to "how to counter Toads" instead of PBIs and so the SPL gets left behind. Then the Dark Ages have PBI becoming common again, but at that point Magshots, AP Gauss, and X-pulse/VSP lasers exist.
>>96832484Do magshots do any more damage to infantry?
I followed a youtube link to watch a forcepack unboxing because I wanted to see the new Stalker variant, and...... the youtuber The Armed Painter is such a fucking weird pod person. He uploaded a video where had the fucking hiccups and constantly apologizes throughout it for having the hiccups. What kind of actual freak would just power through the recording instead of pausing to try to stop their fucking hiccups? The first time I found this guy's channel I thought I was going to like it, but he has such bizarre energy, constantly griping, moaning, apologizing, second-guessing himself, etc. that it just makes for abysmal viewing. Brother, if you read this board, please try to take a Khan Academy course on "Actin' Normal."
>>96832512No, they're just small and light. They're directly competing with SRMs
>>96832484This is not on topic but AP Gauss is a great little weapon, great for giving a unit some close/mid range anti-infantry capabilities without being useless in other roles, plus a battery of 1 heat weapons is nice for TSM heat fiddling. And that's all without considering the range and consistency it can give to BA of course!
>>96832659The validity of this opinion is greatly reduced by the fact it requires you to willingly play garbage bullshit from post-FCCW eras.
>>96832599And probably losing that competition since nothing can be more than a sidegrade. You can boat them for the same weight as SRM-2s, but at twice the crit slots and with explosive guns. They only explode for 3 points each, but when you're filling up all your slots in a location, that's a lot of potential 3 point explosions. They also can't take special ammo. If you're in an environment with a lot of AMS (you're almost certainly not), then maybe they're okay, but the rest of the time they just kind of suck.
>>96832697The 3pts of damage isn't an issue, but the 2 pilot hits certainly are.
