Sandy Petersen is a hack
>>
>>96827783
>whipped cream trap
This was in an episode of Miraculous years ago. Probably close to 9 years. Twitterfag is late to every party and OP is a faggot, as usual.
>>
>>96827783
My favorite trap was a series of traps randomly rolled during a dungeon creation using tables.
>There is a hallway with a door at the end
>The door is a swinging log trap
>A hidden door is next to that door
>It contains a swinging log trap using an Iron beam instead of wood
>There is a hidden room behind that log trap
>The room fills with poison gas when you enter that is also flammable
>The only thing in the room is a treasure chest
>It's a mimic
>There is a hidden compartment next to the mimic
>It contains a poison needle trap
>The hidden compartment also contains a note reads "U R A FAG" with a crudely drawn picture of a wizard giving you a middle finger (this last bit was my sole addition to the whole thing).

I was giggling like a retard eating cake when I kept rolling those results.

>>96827783
Just eat all the cream?
>>
>>96827920
That's just Home Alone
>>
>>96827783
...unless it is a very deep trap, surely the combination of a person's body heat and them struggling to move around would collapse the cream? Whipped cream deflates easily.

So easily, in fact, that such a trap would need to have been filled with fresh whipped cream not very long before the person fell into it. maybe half a day at room temperature. Otherwise by the time you got there it would just be... cream. Knee high, smelly, unsafe to eat cream.
>>
>>96827844
I still don't know who this is.
>>
>>96827783
Imagine being so fucking stupid you think that you wouldn't suffocate in whipped cream just as much as in water or ooze or whatever-the-fuck, and that actual fucking rope is some kind of fucking string that would just kind of lie on top of whipped cream's surface tension alone.

What a fucking idiot.

Sandy Peterson is a game designer. He made Call of Cthulhu RPG. Pretty much all games being skill based with a roll under d100 mechanic owe their existence to his creation. He was also part of Id Software in the beginning stages designing levels for Doom and Doom 2.

John Romero is also part of the OG Id Software crew and helped design Doom and Doom 2 (the head on a stick you shoot on the final level of Doom 2 is his head). John Romero was pretty much shit when left to his own devices designing games though, just look at Daikatana.

Both Sandy and Romero are guilty of "misremembering" shit from early Id Software days, so they very well could both be wrong. Romero is kind of a dick though so it makes one want to believe Sandy more, but odds are higher both made something kinda shit and Carmack had to clean up their bullshit because he, unquestionably, was the guy who did THE heavy lifting at Id and just might be from the fucking future.

just flail the chain back and forth a bit and he'll notice it and grab it, duh

what a retarded trap

I was under the impression that the creator of Call of Cthulhu died of cancer and the other one shot himself after his mom died
>>
>>96828828
>Call of Cthulhu died of cancer
Sounds like Greg Stafford, author of Glorantha and Pendragon. Not sure how much of CoC is his creation.
>and the other one shot himself after his mom died
You sure it wasn't Robert E Howard, author of Conan?
>>
>>96828110
Hey, it's considered a classic for a reason.
>>
>>96829259
Lovecraft died of cancer, so I'm guessing that is the anon referred to.
Shame he didn't reference Clark Ashton Smith, but I'm pretty sure he had a very boring death in his 60s.

>that actual fucking rope is some kind of fucking string that would just kind of lie on top of whipped cream's surface tension alone
yeah, this really put me off as well

>Imagine being so fucking stupid you think that you wouldn't suffocate in whipped cream

He literally says in the post that the character died from lack of oxygen.

Sandy didn't make BRP's d100 stuff.
Thatw as Steve Perrin and Ray Turner in the preceeding Chaosium game, Runequest.
>>
>>96827783
>whipped cream
Couldn't the party very easily just shovel out the cream? It's basically thick foam. Just dig it out.
>>
>>96828734
Wow, I wish I hadn't ignored that warning.
>>
>>96827783
I want a game system where traps have stat blocks like enemies do.
I don't mean hitpoints, but like a set way of interacting with them with understood win conditions that don't rely on dm fiat.
>>
>>96828734
Wow that is foul

i dont remember the name of the pdf, grim-something maybe.

jeez that was brutal. So wait, is the idea that the girls are all clones of the original to basically play canary and trigger all the traps in the dungeon they're in? Why?
>>
>>96832326
D&D 4e did that and you all hated it. You get what you deserve.
>>
>>96836025
3e did it as well (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/traps.htm) if you use the rules for object HP (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm), but 3e also has a similar obsession with level-scaling as 4e.
>>
>>96828475
Sandy tends to remember wrongly more frequently, but I don't think it's malicious. Romero has mellowed a lot since Daikatana, which humbled him quite a lot. There doesn't seem to be much love lost between the two, sad to say.

Carmack was and is without a doubt a technical genius and a key tard wrangler, but his abrasive personality sped id's latter day decline and he clearly lacks the artistic spark to carry a studio on his own.

Late stage id has a lot of tragedies like the wrongful firing of American McGee. He's full on become a wumao at this point and I kinda can't blame him.
>>
>>96832660
No, I just find guro gross and sad.
>>
>>96836183
>>96832660
>>96828734
That was nowhere near as gross as I expected it to be, the artstyle really reduces its severity.
>>
>>96836179
This shit belongs in /vr/ but:
Sandy is probably wrong about what Carmack said, quite possibly because he was new to id at the time and misunderstood something. His working on E1 and having it thrown out is likely given how disorganised they were. He was told to work on Tom's levels, which included some E1 stuff. I think he's said he saw there was no E1M1 and, not having been told this was deliberate, made one.
Romero's claim is also inaccurate, as E1M8 is a Tom and Sandy level.
Carmack's ego was justified but that and his autism gave him tunnel vision. Willits seems to have been good at manipulating him and did so to benefit himself at everyone else's expense. They should have hired his step sister for those levels instead.
>>
>>96830435
No. What you said is retarded. The whole point of the trap is clearly to suffocate the person who falls in.
>>
>>96832326
>I want everything to be a numbers check because having human intellect adjudicate what makes sense and what doesn't makes me uncomfortable

RPGs are not for you. Try videogames.
>>
>>96836179
Reading American McGee's life story it's incredible that he found any success. Dude was dealt an absolute shit hand from birth.
>>
>>96830193
That is what would happen IRL. Just like strawberries rest on whipped cream without sinking, so would normal rope.

Also the reason it's whipped cream instead of water is that you cannot swim in whipped cream.
>>
>>96838274
>Doesn't want a game system for a Roleplaying Game
Why even have rules at all, then? just roleplay.
You don't need HP just adjudicate if a wound with a weapon would be incapacitating. You don't need attack rolls just think about which character is more skilled. Why even have skill checks or saves? Just decide if what they are attempting is feasable.
>>
>>96827783
What a stupid fucking trap, whipped cream flattens and hardens as it dries so unless there are a bunch of goblin confectioners whipping up a bunch of cream right before they enter the dungeon it wouldn't even fucking work. He could have just said it was loose mud (which would have had the same issues mind you) but at least it would make some kind of sense as to why it's there.
