Not that they weren't devout or anything, I'm sure they took faith seriously, but I suspect that similar to how nunneries were "fuckup woman containment zone", an isolated monastery would store the same man who becomes a comic book collector or IT guy in a couple hundred years.

>>96833961It's the belt, you fucking furry
>>96837384I gave you an answer, the Haren from Weird Wizard. I ran the first bits of “Rage of the Goblin King.”
I actually did something like this in a game.Instead of goblins, the land was being attacked by fey-descended creatures who resembled short humanoid rabbit-ish creatures. They lived in burrows and had a matriarchal structure, with each warhost having a large foul tempered queen. They were pretty desructive and regarded as pests until their burrow got large enough, after which they would form armies and sack towns.I described them like they were fur-covered goblins but in truth I could only picture them as Max from Sam & Max.
>>96833101My druid PC actually got their arm ripped off by a rabbit demon a few months ago. They've since grown a magical wooden arm. We were never able to completely eradicate the demon infestation, a few lesser demon rabbits got away and our DM implied that while we stopped the growth for a year or two, the problem will just come back, maybe even worse. The only time our party wasn't able to outright defeat the monster/completely fulfill our contract.
>>96837369That was literally what the clergy was for. Oh sure, there were no doubt some truly pious types who wanted to go into the service of God. Even today people sign take theology classes, get a Masters of Divinity, enter Seminary, and go through all the steps because they want to be a priest. But back then it was also a viable, non-embarrassing career for middling noble children who weren't in line to inherit anything and showed no talent in the military or elsewhere for that matter. Hans from Frozen? Thirteenth of thirteen sons? He wouldn't have been out trying marry some random princess. He would have had a Roman collar around his neck.

Aren’t rabbits like the most delicate and pathetic creatures in the wild? They can break their backs just from running too hard? They can get a heart attack from being spooked too hard?
>>96833101I counter with: instead of elves, rabbits.Elves put everything into dexterity because they're too weak to fight, so they flee as fast as they can. Replace orcs with badgers, and now we have something to talk about.
While technically furry, Redwall did this sort of thing really well and is genuinely pretty well-written. Hares become brits, squirrels become scots, badgers become wise giants, moles become dwarves, and things like owls and snakes become large fantastical monsters. Id highly recommend giving the series a read if your looking for low fantasy, medieval conflicts in definitely not england but everyone is an animal instead of a nationality

>>96881519>Scenes three and four form a two-frame narrative, where two real men – with wiry bodies and short-cropped hair and beards – get into trouble over gambling. In scene three they are playing dice (figure 5). The man on the left holds the dice-cup in his right hand and says: ‘I won’ (exsi). His companion asserts: ‘It’s not three; it’s two’ (non | tria duas | est). This disagreement turns ugly in the following scene, where the two men, now standing, come to blows (figure 6). The man on the left grabs his dice-partner, who holds a fist up to his face. They exchange insults. The man on the left says ‘You no-name. It was three for me. I was the winner’ (noxsi | a me | tria | eco | fui). The other responds, ‘Look here, cocksucker. I was the winner’ (orte fellator | eco fui). The innkeeper wants none of this. He tells them ‘Go outside and fight it out’ (itis | foras | rixsatis).

>>96833914>Su Dongpo was a talented and famous author and poet during the Song Dynasty. He had a friend who was a high accomplished monk named Master Fo Yin. One time, while he was in Huangzhou, Su Dongpo had a burst of inspiration and wrote the following poem:>I bow to the Buddha,>Whose light of wisdom,>Shines on us all.>Sitting on my golden lotus,>Even the eight winds,>Cannot move me at all.>After writing it, Su Dongpo felt quite pleased. Not only did he praise the Buddha poetically, he also subtly hinted at his own transcendence, saying that the “eight winds” cannot move him. Su Dongpo then sealed the poem in an envelope and had a messenger send it to Master Foyin across the river at Jinshan Temple. He believed Master Foyin would surely praise his poem greatly.>However, when Master Foyin read the poem, he wrote “Fart” at the bottom of it and sent it back with the messenger. When Su Dongpo saw the word “Fart,” he immediately became furious and shouted, “How outrageous!” He stormed off to Jinshan Temple to confront Master Foyin, but when he arrived, he found that Master Foyin had already ordered that no guests would be seen today. Su Dongpo, even angrier, ignored this and was about to push open the door when he saw a note on the door, which read:>"The eight winds cannot move you, yet one fart blew you across the river?"
