Do Gelflings count as Elves? Halflings? What would you classify them as?

Slaves. Or lunch.

Probably elves or fairies. I don’t think they really have much halfling qualities to them apart from being short.

Fae, or even elementals. They are tied to Thra in body and spirit, when Gelflings die, their essence returns to nature, and nurtures the planet. When the Skeksis start juicing them, they are fucking the cycle itself, which causes the whole world to decay into entropy.

What about elflings
>>
>>96834091
well what really is an elf?
a magical humans shaped by their environment? near-immortal beings chosen by the gods? a catch all term that is interchangeable with goblins and gnomes to describe mysterious tricksters?

we know a halfling/hobbit is really just a small human with a built in underdog story

so i'd say they're halflings

>Do Gelflings count as Elves? Halflings? What would you classify them as?
some sort of seelie court fellas, faeries/pixies/elves of sort. Their own elf-kin race, but not related to halflings or hobbits at all.

the remind me of the classic fantasy version of athasian halflings (they look like the thundercats kits without the feline traits) appearance-wise.

Rather elfish, though not in a Tolkienian sense. If you're working downriver of him, they're more like gnomes or halflings.

2)thin elf youths
3)athletic gelflings of sorts

and they also look like the boomerang kid from the mad max film

these are not related to hobbits under any circumstances, they mostly look like a race of feral wild children that developed their own civilization and diverged genetically.

athasian halflings are cool.

Kinda figured the name was goblin (or maybe gnome?) + elf + halfling
Might have made them fey-blooded halflings in 3e.

So weird, too, since they already had the bulk of their practical sets and puppets already done. Sure they'd still need some new assets, but most was already there ready and waiting. Such a fucking waste.

Second season wasn't necessary. What, you want 8 episodes of gelflings being brutally genocided by black crab monsters?

What else were you expecting from a prequel. I mean the damn thing was called the Age of Resistance, after all.

Plus I don't think people would mind learning that not all the gelflings were wiped out after all. At the very least it would solve the problem of the entire race being Adam and Eved by Jen and Kira. The proposed sequel was going to show as much with the Firelings as a deep underground adapted offshoot of the Gelflings. Elements of the screenplay would be adapted into Age of Resistance. Deet's people weren't as deep living, nor were they changed by the Crystal to survive molten environments. The idea of small pockets of Gelflings surviving, isolated and hidden from the Skeksis as Jen and Kira were, waiting for a time when they would no longer be hunted for essence? Whelp, not gonna happen now, or rather we're back to the only known outcome being near total genocide except for two survivors. And technically died and was resurrected by the Crystal.

There was a comic based on the proposed sequel. I don't know how close to the screenplay it was, though. The setup was honestly pretty depressing with how things turned out for Gelfling society, plus the plot NATURALLY had to involve Skeksis and Mystics being brought back as if they were somehow still living in the crystal as opposed to having gone back into space or wherever they were from originally. But I do recall it had some cute winged Gelfling spec ops chicks serving in the Gelfling military they all died gruesome deaths.
>>
>>96848419
Yes it was, but that we got a season of puppet kino at all from garbage Netflix is a small miracle on it's own.

There's a sequel comic to this but I haven't read it so I can't attest to its quality.

https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Jim-Henson-s-Beneath-the-Dark-Crystal

Back when Age of Resistance came out there was some interest here in playing games based on it, and of course there have been some over the years. Sadly I don't have any experience with them. I have an interest in the setting, especially AOR's world building, but sadly I couldn't get enough interest among my usual players.
>>
>>96835858
There is a Dark Crystal RPG book, and it's perfectly valid to ask if they're analogous to a DND race for their traditional game.
>>96849153
I've spoken with some people who work at the Jim Henson Company. A lot of people there are still bummed out about this, they really wanted to do more.

A mix of Gelfing, child of the forest and Orphans from a wargame called zenith is how my "halfings" are, they are basically a race of Lost boys of Peter Pan, normally linked to Gea/Mother earth, tough lots of independent tribes exist. Fae lords use them as infantery and workers for they stuff, and they are taller than halfings, being basically Pigmies but slender, +2 dex, -2con, they are very agile and strong for they size, but quite squishy.

Seladon still needed to sacrifoce herself for all her bullshit.
And I guess they were hinting about something big with Deet. Maybe they should just have tied a few loose ends instead of counting on a next season.
