>>96836637>TQ The whole North Africa campaign. Excellent shitposting by Australians gave the Germans their first land defeat of the war (a feat they repeated on the Japanese months later). Monty showed he was more than just a hypeman and defence in depth with overlapping artillery arcs routed the fast tank assaults with close air support that had worked so well for the Germans in 40, 41.If the Germans were hard done by in any metric, it was in being underresourced, like at a level that is politically suspicious... as thugh they didn't want the Desert Fox doing *too well* but that's just a half baked pet theory.
>>96836637Why is the Nevermind the Billhooks folder labeled as "Schizoid content?" I compiled and uploaded that folder to share with other anons here on /hwg/ who might be interested, I don't get why I am getting called a schizo? I share tons of files here on /hwg/, I don't understand how that makes me a schizo?
>>96836782Sounds like something a schizo would say.
>>96836782Billhooks has extremely bad reputation here due to atrocious behaviour of the Billhooks schizo in /awg/. Collective responsibility is a default response against such people even if they are acting alone so expect harsh hostility when mentioning that game.
>>96836897Why are we defacing the /hwg/ OP because of /awg/ drama?
Everyday I wake up from a night of dreaming that I was a hussar in the Napoleonic war. Is there a game that portrays, not big battles, but small scouting parties of Hussards? Scouting, counter scouting skirmishes, raiding small farms for forage, ravaging the local populaces daughters, all while looking dapper as fuck?
>>96837447GURPS
>>96837841excuse you
>>96837447Song of Drums and Shakos is probably your best bet
>>96838136That's perfect, thank you
>>96837447I wish I dreamed cool stuff like that.Instead I have the fucking Somme dream where I'm waiting for the whistle. Sometimes there's an explosion.
>>96837447>Hussars You know I'm quite the anglophile but really in the Napoleonic wars the French absolutely MOGGED the British in every way. French hussars were cool as hell, elite swashbucklers and womanizers who weren't afraid of death. British Hussars? Just regular ass light cavalry dudes. How were French officers promoted? Based off merit and experience and bravery. How were British officers promoted? They purchased their commission and promotion was based off nobility and seniority. British were drilled with longer steps than the French, yet someone they French marched and advanced faster in literally every single battle they found the British. It really is a shame the Rothschild wanted to depose Napoleon, the French could have been cool but the Jews had to go ruin it to this day
>>96838136>>96838520A game with no flavour for the period whatsoever. Chosen Men is better.>>96839187Rothschild didn't defeat the French at Talavera, Quatre Bras, Waterloo. The British and coalition did. Their horses were also so poorly treated the British could detect cavalry regiments downwind because of rotting saddle sores.
>Mfw worked with Warlord™ Resin© todaySomehow they managed to combine all the flaws of metal and resin with no obvious benefits. The material feels very fragile. It's very light, feels like the mini is made out of foam. I assume no mold retooling was performed since mold lines are extremely visible. To be fair, there are next to no warped or bent parts but if there were any I would be quite hesitant about straightening them up under hot water considering how fragile and easy to snap the material feels.
>>96839301>The British did The Rothschilds almost singlehandedly funded the British army against Napoleon. This isn't even schizo posting, it's an undisputed historical fact >rotting horses Yeah and Napoleon was a dwarf and Hitler was actually half Jewish and everyone who fought in Vietnam has a buddy who totally fragged his LT in the latrine!
>>96839726What model? I fucking hate resin in all forms
>>96839885Their SPQR range was using Warlord Resin for minis that used to be cast in metal, apparently. I bought Caesarian Roman scorpion and Cavalry boxes for SPQR since I found an online store that had discount on them. I do believe they are still cast in metal if you buy them directly from Warlord under the Hail Caesar brand.
>>96839812Who were the Rothschilds backing prior to the telegram that shorted British markets? It's on the tip of your tongue, Adi>the historical literacy of the semitically possessedAlso: You can read a lot about how Continentals, especially the French treated horses and how it horrified the British.
>>96839994>You can read a lot about how Continentals, especially the French treated horses and how it horrified the BritishSource: British authors who weren't even alive during the Napoleonic era
>>96839921Warlord resin is rough, I quite like their plastics and how simple they are to put together but one of the big marketing things was "it has almost no mould lines" which is oft repreated about many kits and is seldom if ever true.Later iterations of Sio have proven better but circa SPQR they were rough... I had some Numidian javelinmen and they were very flashy
>>96840007Just stick to WW2 distortions and crying about manufacturers. We must all play to our strengths.
>>96840018I accept your concession
>>96839301>Chosen men is better I'll give it a read, but I specifically read before that it sucked
>>96840102>offtable bombardments>less generic units>leader progression>familiar mechanicsI'd say it's better, people here just hate muh Osprey
>>96840074Literally the loss of mountworthy horses on the French side to sickness and harsh conditions was a contributing factor to their defeat.
>>96840140Do you think that the loss of horses was caused by professional cavalrymen letting their steeds skin rot off due to "improper saddles" (European saddles looked the same as English ones) or maybe it might have had something to do with the almost two decades of constant war involving millions of men across several continents?
>>96840114>familiar mechanics Can you elaborate on this?
>>96839301>>96840102>>96840114Chosen Men and A Song of Drums/Shakos aren't even the same type of game. SoDaS is for small group of 5-10 individuals, Chosen men is played with several units which can be up to 30 men in a single unit, it accommodates 100+ men per team Anon asked for a game where he can live out his dreams of being a hussar scouting, raping and plundering, and Drums and Shakos is obviously a better fit than a small battle game with off table artillery. >>96840268He means it's more similar to Warhammer mechanics
>>96840251>>96840268>>96840315YawnJust readI know it's anathema but you're online, the answers are right there
Look, a heckin epic battle of Chosen Menhttps://youtu.be/pQqO84Xdorc?si=HJJwxez-7lRvKR3JAs many as 20 figures on the board
>>96840102You probably watched the little wars video where they said it's shit snd the author is a complete twat https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GeagCEmcEYA&pp=ygUTTGl0dGxlIHdhcnMgb3BzcHJleQ%3D%3D
>>96840410https://youtu.be/WM3c0KGhKSs?si=xSwIwRBCbbeVt5FZThat exact same guy has videos playing A Song of Drums and Shakos and he said he prefers it over Chosen Men. Anyways, your posting style is very obvious and you're constantly just arguing with everyone in /hwg/ and /awg/, so I'm just gonna ignore you from now on and deprive you of the (You)s you crave. Come back when you want to have a discussion in good faith
Are there any manufacturers out there that produce easy to access smaller scale miniatures like Warlord does with their 'epic' line? I'd be interested to bring ancients to my group, but Warlod seems like the only easy option for a simple purchase of two armies.
>>96840467But he's incorrect. ASODS basically uses Napoleonics as a desktop theme. There is really little going on beyond distinctions between foot and mounted and a few firearms and formations, but it essentially is just A Song of Blades and Heroes. Even with the lists, Chosen Men has more flavour, and a standard 400 point game is certainly not 100 figures or thereabouts. I'm not obligated to agree with you just because you take disagreement personally.
>>96840437Little Wars are twats. >do you want le privelege of editing our videos for free?
Operation Torch starts a week from today. We'll be running a campaign where we play Axis & Allies: North Africa for a strategic map, but resolve individual land battles with Bolt Action. Gonna run from the beginning of November through Christmas. Should be fun.
>>96836744Eh Rommel constantly outran his supply lines and kinda refused to consider logistics properly. He could have been constructing oil pipelines from Tripoli or suchlike, but was just always obsessed with GOTTA GO FAST.I read a lot about him in the desert campaign and the guy was borderline suicidal crazy at times.>Decide to personally recon into enemy with a few officers and an armored car or two>Recon at night, no support, just the general and like 10 staff in a few armored cars>Takes ages trying to find how to get through the barbed wire on the front line>Recon, but then can't find where to get back>Have to camp out on the enemy side, within like 2km of an entire Allied armor division>Somehow make it back in the morning.A lot of the north Africa campaign reads like this - crazy stuff that he manages to get away with, often ending up surrounded behind enemy lines, but manages to somehow escape. He pushed his men and machines to the absolute limit, but felt that logistics were 'someone elses problem'.
>>96841285Good shit anon, map campaigns are where wargaming hits its stride.Does axis and allies consider supply at all? and are more units introduced each turn, or do you just start with a set amount and attrit from there?
>>96841405It has an extremely heavy focus on supply. Transporting it, capturing the enemy's, and using supplies for your attacks. There's a Convoy system, where you purchase units based on your country's RP allocation plus the territories you control. Units you purchase appear in Convoy territories and once they move onto the map, can be interdicted by naval units.
>>96841432>>96841405Oh yeah, the rules are actually free if you wanna check it out: https://renegadegamestudios.com/content/File%20Storage%20for%20site/Rulebooks/Axis%20Allies/A%26A_NorthAfrica_Rulebook_v9_WEB.pdfNot super applicable to anything else but it did help me decide that I wanted to commit to this for the campaign rather than making up my own thing. Plus, saved me from printing out my own map and finding my own counters for units. I'll be playing the Brits in this one, but we've got at least one player for each country, even the French.
>>96841377He wanted to be Guderian but didn’t realize North African desert was slightly different than Northern France. Same mistake Guderian made in Russia
>>96841475>Oil comes from the desert, right? We can just forage for it
>>96841500ya got me anon. I peed my pants a little>>96841475People always forget that big places are big!
>>96841377>obsessed with GOTTA GO FASTIf I had access to a bunch of those German recon cars and squad cars I'd be driving all day, too. It's always been my dream to get a Volkswagen 181, or a repro of the kubelwagen (found a place that does it in the U.S.)
i've mentioned this a bit in the past but I've been helping organize an estate sale for a deceased wargame club member. hes one of our more eccentric boomers with an absurd collection. we've managed to sell about half the stuff in his garage but we learned this week that he also rented a storage locker and we looked inside it today. Hes got half of 6mm operation overlord in here. Just the gliders alone, we counted 2 bags he had and they each had 100 gliders in em, he had 10 bags of gliders total, so if the other bags are the same as the bags we counted, hes got 1000 gliders. And thats just the gliders, hes got similarly absurd numbers of landing ships, infantry, and armored vehicles. its incredibly impressive and autistic in my favorite kind of way but what the hell was he planning on doing with this? you'd need a 30 foot table or some shit. On the plus side, the club is going to have more 6mm terrain than we could ever want, but I've no idea how we'd manage to sell this or how much we should even list it on ebay for, and no one wants to count this shit. And even if we did count and list it all, who the hell would buy it? And if we gave it away for free? Who'd take it? Its so much stuff and 6mm WW2 is something very few people are interested in.
>>96841727>the madlad was trying to recreate all of operation overlord in 6mm
>>96841727>Who'd take itMost of the anons ITT. Set up a link somehow where we can give you our addresses and pay you for shipping
>>96841890if it was entirely up to me, this is an option I'd entertain, but it isn't. right now, the kind of "estate sale council" our clubs formed is leaning towards trying to convince Noble Knight to sell it. They want to get as much value as possible for the widow and her 3 young children and I think its a charitable notion that they should pursue to the fullest.
>>96842124Noble Knight to buy it to resell*
Looking for a good 28mm scale Asian elephant. Are there any good plastic options? The only plastic elephant I can find is from Victrix and it for an African elephant.
>>96836637Anyone has by any chance Cold War Commander pdf?
Pdfs anyone?
>>96840010>Sio I have yet to see decent siocast. From my experience it's the shittiest material I have worked with no matter the manufacturer.
Have we peaked in terms of detail quality on 28mm historical miniatures? Perhaps the real question is, do we really need more when it comes to detail quality on 28mm minis?I've been working with some recently released minis from Victrix and I already felt they are too detailed for my taste. I bought them for a skirmish gaming project so that's fine, but if I wanted to use them for a full scale army with 150-200 minis I would simply end up with a burnout. It may be an unpopular opinion but this is where I would stop with the number and quality of details and chase for more historical accuracy instead.
>>96842649>It may be an unpopular opinion but this is where I would stop with the number and quality of details and chase for more historical accuracy instead.Agreed. I would prefer a focus on poseability too.
Were hoplites using NERF knives or is Victrix trippin' here?
Does anyone know who makes DISMOUNTED hussars?? And secondly, saddled horses just standing (not galloping) with no riders?? For my hussar game I would like the option of dismounting to enter buildings and farms and stuff and leaving the horses tied to a tree >>96843563I always take my spreading knife to battle
>>96843858Best I could find with a quick Google search. This German site has dismounted Prussian hussars and Prussian horse holders, and French horse holder but no dismounted French. Starting Bolt Action with a few friends. We've all written up army lists to build and paint towards, but none of us are aware of the proper list building "etiquette".What % of a list's total points should be allowed for infantry, tanks, transports etc? Is 500 points of tanks in a 1500 point list too much, etc?
>>96843965Generally with 3rd ed the rules aren't as stiff. As long as you have a solid rifle platoon as your core, you'll be decent however you pick to theme it. Right now, the meta pick is spamming light tanks with autocannons, so people might get annoyed if you do that, unless it's in a historical context like a bunch of Panzer IIs in a blitzkrieg list. If everything else is Blitzkrieg appropriate, people will accept Panzer IIs
>>96843965If you are playing only/mostly with your group of friends, then i would recommend to discuss what time period and what theatre you want to play. If everyone brings an early war list, things should be fine, same with if everyone brings a late war list. Its like >>96843985 said, and i agree: If you bring a list for late war, and your tank are 2 Panzer II in support of your Sturmgewehr-Veterans because their autocannons are so strong, then i would call this cheese. Same with bringing something like a Tiger against a early war italian player.
>>96843985>>96844417Theatre and time period is a bit fuzzy for us as we start since we have an Australian player, a German player, and a US player. Just playing for fun before leaning into historical recreation.Would 2 Panzer IV's and a Hanamag be too much armour in a 1500 point list? How much infantry should there be to balance it out? Have 40 infantry so far.
>>9684465430 euros is wild, I just bought like 200 figures from Perry and paid 20 pounds for shipping to the US.
>>96844689That's a perfectly normal amount of tank in 1500. >Australian, German, and USNorth Africa is your best bet. Colonial Australian troops fought in the same theater as US troops, both against Germans.

>>96844654Europeans are bombarded by political propaganda pertaining to America. I think Americans really underestimate just how much of the non-American news cycle is dedicated to American politics. I lived in Japan for a few years for work and it was like that there too, although Japs are generally more reserved and won't openly seethe about it. Does anybody know if the Hail Caesar Army Lists book differs in any way from the first edition that was split into two smaller supplements? Besides errata like the busted Han China list being fixed.
On anticipation of the Victrix Caesarian Romans being released in a few months, I've been reading Julius Caesars book, The Gallic Wars,.and holy fuck this guy was such a Chad. >Helvetii are trying to cross the river Saône >they are using little boats to ferry thousands of people across slowly a few at a time >Caesar learns about this and immediately straps up and marches his legion out at midnight >March all through the night and catch them by surprise>kills everyone still left on this side of the river>The remaining Helvetii say "thank God we are safe on this side of the river, it took up 20 days to cross, there is no way his army can reach us" >Caesars men immediately construct a bridge and are over the river that same day

Nevermind the fact that it would take hundreds of carts to carry something like that, and that it would be completely useless.I like the book, but you have to take everything with 2 kg of salt, guy is too self-aggrandizing. While Delbrück clearly has an agenda, I like his take on Caesar telling the other legions he'd face Ariovistus with the Xth legion alone -- it's because he was probably matched in terms of numbers against the Germans and he could actually take them with a single legion.

New Bolt Action anon here again. I understand the game system has recently jumped from 2nd edition to 3rd edition. Which edition should we stick with (considering we are just playing amongst ourselves and not going to events)? Can 2nd edition content be used in 3rd cleanly, like the Australian supplement? Also, how many pin markers and order dice are recommend? I'm assuming 15 order dice for each team and like 30(?) something pin markers.

how convertable are the warlord pike and shotte cavalry models? >>96852626What's funnier is that Victrix used the same old shitty Osprey's as their source.Citating Khurasan Miniatures and using an image of Relic Miniatures.>Most ranges depict the Numidians as they (or Moors) are shown on Trajan's column, but in this much earlier period, they are described as wearing goat skins, with the tufts of fur not shorn off around the edges. This was probably fairly tough and may have provided a bit of protection from blows as well.
>>96852626Specifically to spite you. Yes, you in particular.
>Gauls underestimated manlet rage
>>96850263delicious.
>>96850263>these Dutchmen I sculptedA personally sculpted project? Requesting higher-res photos then, as high as possible.
>>96852957Whatever happened to manlets? They fell off hard.
Anyone know a source for some halfway decent mid to late WW1 French in 28mm? I can find Brits and Germans but I the only French I can usually locate are either ancient metals or the WGA Plastics which are ... fine ... but I'd like dudes carrying more gear/look a bit bulkier.
>>96853486Not sure if they have French but I saw WW1 miniatures for the game Blood and Valor at a convention and they looked really cool. It's worth googling to see if they have what you need
Third edition anon here, any other third edition bolt action players have the soviet book, and if so would mind sharing it?
Painted these Anglo-Afghan War figures a few years ago and have put them in this box and haven't opened it up since until now. My painting has come pretty far since these guys What ruleset would you use for a quick light skirmish with them? Trouble is all my terrain is green and European countryside themed, I don't have any mountain/rocky/desert shit

>>96836744> Le Rommel was le politically underminedThroughout his career he pissed off his superiors because he would literally go around them and ask for shit directly from Hitler, including during the NA campaigns
>>96854483Maiwand day has some terrain tutorials for Afghanistan. pretty much all you need are pine chips and foam. You could give The Sword and the Flame with half-sized units a shot, the intro scenario in the book is laid out like that.
>>96845967Extremely based black man
>>96850225I just started playing this edition, but it seems a decent amount has changed. In some ways it seems to be streamlined, but once again I only just started. Just look it up on plebbit if no one else answers you.
>>96850355It is difficult for a historian to contradict a source that is almost the sole source.
