Question about game logistics in 2025. I’ve been DMing for almost 24 years now and I really enjoy teaching new people, getting to know them and using tried and tested game ideas in new environments to inspire. I’ve recently played in a successful Hyperborea 3e open table campaign where I got a lot of good pointers on how to approach gaming from a less organization intensive angle. My last AD&D campaign was killed due to players not being able to meet deadlines and recruitment taking too long between games. This time I decided to go throw the net wide:- 5e- planar/planescape hexcrawl game- be super positive- allow for race and class homebrews- open table to have a large pool of potential players that can jump in via random portal openingI isn’t going well, my discord server has 7-8 people, only 3 want to play and met only once, new people enter and leave instantly. Is it because my games are free?
>>96846354>reddit frog
>>96846365I posted a frog because I am tired and just want to run games for people and make them happy. I'm tired of lost opportunities.
>>96846354>my discord serverIdentified the problem. There's nothing good coming with that program.
>>96846438Anon if you wanna make a public table with a public discord server I suggest doing either reddit post or Disboard, once you have people you can take the listing off or even find a Co-DM and slowly foster a community.
>>96846441Why the fuck would you censor "femboy"? Are you 15?
>>96846354I've had some luck finding games on Reddt r/lfg. If you're DMing, then players will flock to you, especially if you're casting a wide net.If you feel confident enough, you can host a cheap game on Startplaying. Apparently when a game costs money, players tend to be more on top of showing up to games.
>>96846491solid advice but I don't think they would work for me. I never used reddit and I'm kinda scared hearing all the bad rep it gets as a platform.I will check that Disboard but co-dming is not for me. I like to end my projects and not overstay my welcom. Having a partner would probably make me reluctant to switch groups>>96846553>Apparently when a game costs money, players tend to be more on top of showing up to gamesit hurts so much so it's probably true.
>>96846510A lot of these "based" nu-4channers are actually just puritans who get offended over everything.
>>96846510I assume it’s to make it sound like a slur
>>96846354>5e
>>96846354Just play Adnd you pussy. Especially if you re gonna have a planescape hexcrawl
>>96846354>DnD 5eYou're advertising a system made BY retards FOR retards, then wondering why you're getting retards for players.
>>96846354You need to form a cabal of grognards and rotate DM duties. But Grognards are willful creatures, and hate to share authorial power over their own settings.Try finding some people you can hash out a two-page setting bible with, that delineates what the game's particulars consist of, then another page consisting of what is -not- allowed in the setting; avoid banning things that are basically universal natural phenomena, or based on "fee-fees" and focus on stuff that would violate the feel of the setting - like advanced technology in a fantasy setting, or humanoid aliens in "hard" sci-fi, and just assume anything not explicitly banned is fair game.If you can find a group of people you can do this with, and then rely on to sustain it (ok, this is a big ask) then you have your group. As for me?I prefer IRL gaming.Always did.Tried online; clunky and tedious.
>>96846354>- 5e>- planar/planescape hexcrawl game>- allow for race and class homebrews>- open table to have a large pool of potential players that can jump in via random portal openingNone of those are appealing to me. I would definitely skip over your game if I saw it on some online listing. Still, I'm surprised you're having trouble. The prevalence of 5e and freakshit party art online indicates that my preferences are far from universal. >I isn’t going well, my discord server has 7-8 people, only 3 want to play and met only once, new people enter and leave instantly. Is it because my games are free? No, I imagine it's more likely because your server seems dead and that turns people off. It's like if you're going out for dinner in a new neighbourhood, you go to the restaurant that's buzzing rather than the one that's got a single bored waiter staring at an empty room. If your discord is just you trying to organise a time for a session and then silence, that might be why people are leaving. I've never played at an open table though so I don't know how you'd fix this. Seems like you need a preexisting community for that sort of thing.

>>96846354>Told to fuck off with the frog, since nobody wants to associate>Makes another thread, then>Again with the frog... and then you wonder why you can't get players
>>96852475Imagine being this mindbroken by a fucking frog.
>>96852475why would you post on a frog website if you hate frogs?
