Is CAIN a good system to run? I like a lot of the ideas in it, but the actual crunch on the system feels very loose. If not, is there a similar game to it that would work as well for the setting?
>>96847023Bump, I love the art style and premise, but I havent seen any solid review of the game.
The inspirations on the game are fairly obvious, and my group loves the modern day supernatural hunter kind of genre. Also want to play something where the characters actually have a better than even chance of dying.
>>96847023I picked this up because I liked the idea of what it described itself as, but I haven't run it yet and may never do so. My main concern is the blasphemies that you can pick from and how few powers there are for each. The system is really limited in what supernatural powers you can use, which is surprising since you would've thought they'd be basically the main focus.
>>96847023Vibes and art are fine. Mechanics aren't much to write home about, though. Abbadon likes to LARP as a game designer, but he's an artist more than a writer.
>>96847023How many games does the K6BD guy pump out?must be a machine at putting out art
>>96847347That's my fear from reading over it. Is there another game that might work for the setting but has better mechanics?
Bumping for more input. Anyone actually played this?
>>96847469Not specifically for new wave exorcism shonen, no. Many attempts at a naruto ttrpg have been made (one even by anons on /tg/), though, which might be kind of what you're looking for? I'd honestly encourage you to try your hand at making your own system and seeing if you can outdo cain.
>>96847023Never heard of it, give me the elevator pitch.
>>96847347>/threadIt's decent, but relies entirely on your group and GM being good to ve anything other than mid. It's a 'newbie DM' trap for that reason. I've seen like 5 people get the courage to try this as their first game only to crash and burn.
>>96850216The SCP foundation uses your party of semi-possesed sorcerers as disposable assets to investigate and destroy evil jjba stands powered by the negative emotions of their hosts.
>>96850216>Rules light (think Kids on Bikes)>Schizo blend of Hellboy, Silent Hill, SMT, Persona, and basically anything that could have an Evanescence song in its sound track>Neat premise (trauma manifests as demons and secret g-men are tasked with exorcising them)>Awesome art and stylish writing, because AbbadonThat's about it. Mechanically it's dull as fuck so a lot rests on the table to make it cool.
>>96847023>Tom BloomIt's half-baked shit, just lije everything else he slops out
>>96850409>trauma manifests as demons and secret g-men are tasked with exorcising themThat's just Garo. Or Limbussy Cumpany.
>>96850409>a lot rests on the table to make it coolI hate this tendency of modern RPGs.
>>96852009Well duh, don't need to actually write an RPG system if you make the players do all the effort of coming up with rules, exceptions and ideas.
>>96847359Well, for Lancer he did art and some vibes/background lore. KSBD rpg - Broken Worlds, CAIN and Magnagothica are mostly him. Oh there is also the ICON rpg, a more classical stuff. In all cases lore/art/vibes are good, but rules are kinda mediocre.Magnagothica has probably the tightest ruleset, but it is a wargame/board game of necromancers murdering each other and still has too many fucking tokens. >>96847469World of Darkness - some kind of a mix of Fomori + Ghosts rules with a little Path magic thrown in the mix. WoD has its own problems, but it's way more solid than CAIN.
>Made by the same people as LancerI can tell you without knowing a single other thing about it that it is not a good system to run.
>>96852009This is largely a byproduct of not playtesting the games he designs. He goes off of vibes and what he thinks sounds good, which will get most designers through the basic framework, especially if they're just adapting mechanics from other proven systems. However, because he's either not playtesting, or he's playtesting with crowds of people who will adore anything he makes even if it's ass, he doesn't actually have a good sense for what works in a multi-hour session of gameplay.
>>mentally ill homo millenial's take on westernized jujutsu kaisen>Is this good??????gee idk anon what do you think the only award it wins is somehow making the most homoerotic mainstream shounen even gayer yet somehow managing to appeal to infinitely fewer actual women. Actual chicks love their gojo slash fics but everything involving this game is just trannies like lancer

>>96847023Does it have fappable waifus?
>>96858325Amy RPG can have fappable waifus if you're not a coward.
