Aside from the Black Hawk KU and Battle Cobra any other IS mechs that a. ape clan mechs and b. share the name? I read empire aflames again and it got me wondering because I wanted to paint up a TSDF lance. Also this feels more like guesswork since the book doesn't go too in depth but what is unit availability like in EA? The supremacy controls tikinov, irian and hesperus, that's a lot of faction specific factories. And the axman too, how did that one come about? Considering it needed things from the lyran davion and liao parts of the fedcom which doesn't exist.

>>96854652Did they get much backlash? I know the changes to the torso were controversial but it seems like almost everything else was taken fairly positively? Especially all the rule changes regarding various equipment.Even /btg/ seemed pretty ok with it all, and we're not shy about shitting on CGL.
>>96854652>>96854855I saw more people saying "but I thought battletech was supposed to never change?" than I saw anyone actually having problems with what they changed.
is the ghosts and goblins megamek match still happening?
>>96854882I see a lot of that too, but it was never true, Battletech changes plenty. Even within each "edition", there are changes. Different printings of Total Warfare have stripped and added entire rules, and drastically changed how other rules function. Some of the playtest rules aren't even new, they were just changed decades ago and are being tentatively brought back. What Battletech doesn't do is completely change the underlying core, almost nothing changes that would invalidate an old record sheet. Even the one change that they've been teasing as potentially happening is to remove an obscure piece of clan equipment that's just two other pieces of equipment put together because it's redundant. But that's not the first time record sheets have changed. It's rare and they keep it that way for a good reason, but it has happened now and then. Someone who hasn't played Battletech for two or three core book replacements will still recognize most of the game, but the details of individual rules will be different.
>>96854882I don't think the proposed movement rules were that controversial, but the side hits and ammo explosion have not been popular (with exceptions of course) last time I checked the playtest forum threads.>>96854816Look I'm a Merc, so I'm not the right person to ask this, but from what I've learned in the "Know Your Adversary" training holovids command supplied us with wouldn't clanners be disgusted by "freebirth" mating rights?
>>96854940In the original Battledroids all the heat sinks occupied a critical slot that was changed when the 1st edition of Battletech came out.Rule changes have always been a thing, the main difference between Battletech and Warhammer is that those rule changes don't remove figures from the game, just the Eras.

>>96855886>>96855891Hey Anon, I think you did pretty fucking great, for tabletop mini's that's fantastic. The only thing I think i'd suggest would be 'highlight colours' and by that I mean putting on details in colours that work well with your base. IE: Yellow unit insignia's, maybe some mud and shit around the lower limbs that suits your base. Other than those (very minor) details I'd be quite proud of that and you should be too.Well done mate. I'd love to see more.
Had the most fun I've had in a game of BT in a while. Jade Falcons vs ComGuards, I was the Falcons. I had a Summoner Prime, Mad Dog Prime, Uller B, Night Gyr Prime, and Gargoyle C. Comguards brought a Highlander, Longbow, Clint, Archer, Black Knight, and Marauder, pretty much all the clanbuster versions except the Highlander was the introtech one.First few turns of the game were mostly jockeying for position, but I realized that even though I had better long range weapons, the ComGuards just had more raw firepower. I sent my Uller up along the runway to the side of the building, and the Comguards sent the Black Knight to intercept, but I used the Uller's speed to pull back and bring it in with the Gargoyle, leaving the Black Knight out of position. That was my big gambit and it paid off as I dived on the Highlander with everyone, eventually coring it with the Ultra 10 on the Uller. From then on it was a slugfest, and while I had less armor, the better weapons told over time. Very much a back and forth battle, though. My Gargoyle pilot took five(!) pilot hits in a single round and blacked out, then got his engine stomped on next turn, I cored the Highlander, my Summoner lost most of its weapons but stayed effective, and eventually the final result was me having a mostly intact Night Gyr and Uller, a crippled Summoner and Vulture, and an engine killed Gargoyle, while in the final turn the Comguards went from a Marauder, Black Knight, and Archer to only the Archer being alive.
>>96856149Very nice man. Always fun for clanners to slug it out. How's the kitfox?
>>96856205The B packs a surprising punch, most of them do, but they compensate by not having either the armor or the speed to really stay alive. The Kit Fox is only good in a situation where there's a bigger mech the opponent is more scared of that has a lower TMM. So it pairs well with the many 5/8 heavies.
>>96854816I play Clans because my ideal fantasy is being dominated entirely by my Star Commander. Being wholly subservient to my partner while being treated like property is my ideal relationship.
>>96855001Absolutely not a fan of the side table removal. I think the ammo explosion cap is too low personally. I wish there was an easy way just to cap the explosions from MG ammo. That's the worst example.
>>96855001I'm in favor of not changing the rules at all, and killing everyone at CGL who think this is a good idea and also everyone who's enabled CGL to try this by helping them playtest the changes. Battletech doesn't change. Period. I'm not going to allow progressives to gain a foothold on my game and ruin it like they've ruined everything else.
>>96856506I get the impression from discussions I've seen that CGL abandoned the side table change after opinions turned negative over time.
>>96856518I'm in favor of changing all the rules and killing everyone at FASA who disagrees. So there.
>>96856506Ammo bins damage should be calculated off round size. Yeah its deliberate ambiguity involving caliber but MG and AC2 and 5 should get the new one. 10 and 20 keep the old.
>>96856571I don't think there's much value in ammo explosion calculations where almost all practical results remove every affected pip and plenty to spare. Until recently the calculation might as well have been "lol, just shred your sheet unless it's turn fifteen+, lmao". It'd save time.

The quirks system needs to be more in depth! Give mechs unique buffs or nerfs that are tied to the mech itself. Give manufacturers quirks as well! Have their weapons, armor and equipment have differences! Add the fluff to the game!

>>96857265No u!
>>96856972The computer game actually does this, with different weapon tiers with different buffs being attributed to different companies. GM autocannons are apparently the shittiest.
>quirksWow, you're telling me one mech gets "rapist weapons" and the other mech gets "anal leakage"? I wonder what interesting things this will add to the game!
>>96857396>Mech A, in the lore is insanely durable with its fancy named, top of the line armor and hard hitting weapons!>Mech B, is supposed to to shit>They both play the same, have the same armor rating and weapons hit for the same damage>This is somehow not an issue
>>96855886>>96855891That’s pretty good for a first go at it. I’d say hit it with some edge highlights or maybe a little drybrush and you’d be good to go. It’s kinda hard to see in this pic but I’d also recommend giving the cockpits a lot of attention, with a color that’s contrasting your base coat that much you’ll want to make sure the edges are crisp and you have a nice jeweling effect on there since the cockpit will naturally draw a lot of eyes and stand out a lot. On something like a king crab it can be hard with all the little windows, but on most mechs you’ll have enough space to work with.
>>96856972>The quirks system needs to be more in depth! Give mechs unique buffs or nerfs that are tied to the mech itself.I agree since since so many mech entries have the lore for the mechs be that they're supposed to be improved designs that are replacing old inferior designs but when you actually compare the tonnage and movement profiles there's little difference and you have to wonder why so much effort went into creating a whole new mech instead of just creating a different variant of an existing design. A more in depth quirk system would better represent the actual setting.
>>96857265I like using quirks in a campaign because they make different chassis more distinct. That way even with customization every mech of same weight doesn't just end up becoming interchangeable, and gives the players a reason to try to acquire some mechs that have notably good traits.
Actually looking at lore entries ive got to ask who really thinks that the Linebacker is an good replacement for the "slow" Timber Wolf?
When they say 'Unit X is stationed at Planet Y in year 3XXX' on Military Deployment section, is it that the entire regiment/battalion/etc is stationed their? All of them?
>>96857638Because BT is afraid of actually advancing it's tech. So new mechs are better because...reasons!
>>96857673Well the original plan for the Timeskip to 3250 was going to have new superior tech that would be the standard that the game mechanics are based around but then everyone got mad about everything about the timeskip so that's not happening.
>>96857476Cool concept, but do you see any other result than people simply choosing not to use mech B? A good idea isn't worth bad results.
>>96857754Should have rolled better to get mech A instead of ending up with B.
>>96856966Seriously, fuck off, you've been spamming this shit for 3 or 4 fucking days now, this retarded bullshit shouldn't even take you 10 minutes.
On the Capellan Confedeation being the one Successor State to use most of the UrbanMechs that survived the 1st Star League's collapse, how exactly were the Capellans able to replenish any lost UrbanMechs whenever they lost worlds in combat? I mean, given that Orguss Industries was among the casualties of the Second Succession War (and that it was the Free Worlds League that annexed it) and that there wouldn't be another factory that built UrbanMechs in the Inner Sphere for almost another 173+ years (and in a system the Federated Suns annexed/"liberated" in between 2864 and 3010 no less since the aforementioned factory that built UrbanMechs for the FedSuns was Hanse Davion's idea), how would the Capellans replace lost UrbanMechs prior to them having their own factory for UrbanMechs (the Hellespont factory in Betelguese wouldn't be built until the late 3060s)?
>>96857754The mech makers in BT are stupid and make bad mechs on purpose. It doesn't take 1k years to figure out that medium lasers are basically the best weapon available. There is a reason why the savanna master is so broken. Cheap medium laser dispensers wreck anything short of a nuclear shelter. >b-but the range!Just go faster, which you can with only medium lasers strapped to the largest engine you dare fit into your mech.
>>96857687They keep pushing ilclan but they forget a lot of fags hate the clans. About the only way they could go at this stage is probably a full reboot and that would be a complete shitshow.
>>96858449Remember CGL is a LICENSEE and not an OWNER.They are temporary and just like wizkids we will move past them and continue to play the game as it already existed.

>>96858449>They keep pushing ilclan but they forget a lot of fags hate the clans. They could always end up making it the last hurrah for the clans, but as a IS player myself even I realize the Clans as being the only uniquely BattleTech faction(s) in the game from a time when FASA was trying to make a truly western sci-fi mecha game and not tanks with legs if he madmax. So just wiping them out wouldn't work either.
>>96856972The main function of the quirk system is to make Cappie and Drac mechs worse, really.

>>96858449>>96858520My feeling is that the Clans should be kicked out of the Inner Sphere and essentially be treated like pirates where they just do raids on the Inner Sphere and each other. That way they're not major factions anymore but still have some small relevance.

Neat. Autocannons can eat 1 crit and still keep on firing.
>>96859547I've been reading through parts of it. Apparently there is a full Aerospace rework coming.
>>96860102I guess that balances out having one of the worst crit to weight ratios in the game.
>>96860057But then the question is, what kind of shield? We can find the tonnage for any of them, but the small can be easily sandblasted (but can also just not be raised when sandblasty weapons are pointed at it), the medium reduces speed, and the large reduces speed and prevents jumps. Under current rules they keep the penalties even after being destroyed, but the playtest reverses that.
>Mechs have shields and melee weapons are actually worth using nowIt only took them how many decades?
>>96860230Shields were always alright. You can't just slap a medium or large one on any unit, but the small shield can be added to almost anything and be worth its two tons. The only real problem with a small shield is if you've got guns spread out all across your mech and need to be able to fire all of them at once. If your weapons are crowded on one side, a small shield on the other is nothing but good.

>>96860382From Field Report 2765 it is strongly implied the Imperial Divisions are on par with SLDF Royals in skill and equipment but it doesn't outright confirm if they are the royal variants.>>96860423Based on vehicle crit rules it would imply a full weapon destruction.
>>96860457Amaris had the connections needed for it, he was somewhere between the first and third most powerful man in the star league depending on how you look at things, the Rim Worlds was the only state allowed to fully garrison themselves with no SLDF presence. He could have easily arranged tech transfers.
>>96860501True. In fact the said book does even outright say more or less that.
>>96860184>>96860057>>96859969NTA I'm going to sit down and take a stab at this in Solaris Skunkworks. I'll post my results here later for feedback if anyone is interested.
>>96859417UAC are finally an upgrade. UAC 2 and 5 have no reason not to double tap now and can really start sand blasting
I know this is going to be weird and all but does anyone know where I can get my hands of the Heavy Metal Pro files for free. I wanted to try it out and see what its like but the website wants me to charge over 60 bucks for it and I'm not paying that cash for something thats not even being updated anymore.
>>96860752There's a good chance it won't even run on your system, it's been abandoned for over a decade. You'd think there'd be some kind of termination clause in that license, but apparently not.
>we got knight looking mechs, crab looking mechs, skull face looking mechs, trashcan looking mechs etc>but no angel looking mechsI want to make a custom mech with partial wing and print out some winged mech to play with my friends. Now to make it feel like it's flying without actually making LAM I need to jumping at least 10 (although I honestly want to go even faster, not that I'm expecting to get to 18), but I'm not sure if I should go 8/12/8[10] with regular jump jets or 5/8/8[10] with improved jump jets and at what tonnage, although I narrowed it down to a medium. A compact engine would go well with improved jump jets, but shit is still heavy. Also leaves little space and tonnage for weapons (don't want to just cheese with jump MPLs too) but I'm willing to pay the price.
I don't know if anyone else saw it but the AP ammo change doesnt even mention the +1 TN removal or is staying. I hope this is the case of CGL being retarded and forgot about it because if they intend to keep that +1 TN for AP rounds then might as well not bother touching it in the first place.
>>96860850>A compact engine would go well with improved jump jets, Meant a light engine, not compact, my bad.
>>96860862It doesn't say to only replace specific parts of the rules for that ammo, so I would assume it's intended to replace the entire writeup.
>>96860928And cross checking with the leaks, the leak specifically says to remove that +1 TN. So yeah, the playtest rules are intended to completely replace the entirety of the current rules for that ammo.
>>96860862>>96860948Yeah I am not too sure about the rule change what they mean by the wording. I am guessing that it is replacing that +1 TN?Looking more into the rules I think NARC is still pretty much useless for spotters from my understanding of what it says due to ECM essentially cancelling it out unless its the unit that fires it? -1 TN though is nice but I see this making it only really practical on designs that are already missile heavy rather than supporting other missile units?I am also surprised the flamer, heavy gauss, MASC, thunderbolt and bombast changes didn't make this cut?
>>96860842The termination clause is Rick Raisleys IRL death. That's the only way the license is coming back.
>>96860842Someone on one of the Facebook group says it can run on Windows 11 and I still want to try regardless.
>>96860672>>96860184>>96860057>>96859969Alright, here's my preliminary stab at a Lance + Shield Charger variant. The obvious concept was a Solaris VII gladiator mech. I was tempted to go crazier with it using XXL engines, but decided to follow the KISS mantra to a degree.Went with a medium shield so that it can still jump as one anon suggested. Debated on using IJJs, but seemed too heavy for what will be used for positioning rather than backstabbing.Next I tried out a MASC + supercharger build, but I was running into issues arming it enough afterwards. I then took a step back and restarted with a TSM build instead, keeping the supercharger for the extra speed lost from the shield.Went X-Pulse lasers because I felt it needed some experimental tech to be a proper Solaris mech. The math should work out with the two small lasers there in case you walk or (for whatever reason) stand still and want to keep your TSM bonus. Still, please vet it to make sure I didn't fuck up on accident.Every single ranged weapon is in the right torso so the mech will be utterly screwed if it loses its side, but it's got an XL engine anyway so that's a given and it's a gimmick gladiator to boot. Seemed fine.Went max armor since I imagine it's going to take a pounding drawing so much fire between its charges. I need to adjust the balance of the front/rear armor on the torso, but I figured I'd source input here first before I fiddle with it too much. Lemme know what you dudes think.
>>96858624Alps thermal printers for printing whites and metallics, yes. Although a lot of small business decal makers are switching to UV printers, which are crazy expensive but much more supported globally. Otherwise home inkjet decal sheets work ok provided you have a decent printer. Just no white backgrounds if you print on transparent sheets.
>>96860752Any particular reason why? I used to have the HMPro suite on CD, but that disk went missing ages ago. I switched to MML and never looked back. Hell, the newest version of MML even allows design of handheld weapons!
>>96861137Under the playtest rules, that thing does 72 damage + potentially 1 internal damage if the first location hit by the charge somehow still has armor by the time all 15 hits are resolved. It takes zero damage, but loses somewhere between 1 and 2 of its shields 18 DC. If that leaked change where the target hex also counts as a charge is in, then it goes up to 80.Of course, realistically you're not getting a perfect 10 hex run up, so it's probably more like 32 to 40 damage +1 pierce check point, but that's still a lot of hurt.
>>96858671>>96858878I also tend to go with the 2nd book, I think.Whichever one this one's from.
>>96861230Just want to give it a go. I know everything is outdated and stuff but the experience of using it would be pretty cool.
>>96858671The first. It's the weirdest and the best. 1629 is just so damn fun to read.
