Karen scanned the beach as she trailed after her sister towards a table at something that might be a restaurant. The fact that she did this in near perfect silence was, strictly speaking, not a needed clarification - she hadn’t said anything for years. Which was both a blessing and a curse. A curse because she literally could not speak, and a blessing because it meant she got to spend time with her sister. And also she could curse inside of her head as much as she wanted to with no risk of it ever slipping out.

Because holy shit what the fuck. Karen was a Dawn. The strong sword arm of the Unconquered Sun. Her sword was so big she had to fold it in half to reasonably carry it around. She should not be getting casually outclassed by any kind of mortal. Like, okay, sure, they were a half caste sidereal. That's not as good in a straight fight as a full sidereal, which is only sometimes as good in a straight fight as a full solar. Not discounting caste specialties or psychological warfare, like putting Misho up against Nemen.

But no, some random mortal that Nemen blackmailed into joining the competition just absolutely made everyone eat shit and die a little bit inside. Which sort of made sense, Nemen was obviously cheating, but at the same time... Karen can't do that. Marena can't do that. Ten Winds, as amazing as he is, can't do that. Hell, someone who knew all of the charms they'd used and was able to use them all at once miiight be able to do that, but they'd never be able to pay for it. The girls essence hadn't even flickered. That was normal for her, and that was fucking terrifying.

Which is part of why Karen had to resist the urge to jump into the air when the mortal in question slipped into a chair at the table she was sharing with her sister. Behind her followed a number of others.

"So, Messier..." Marena began ever so subtly. "How'd you do that? Because that was pretty fucking cool."

Karen goes rigid. Ten Winds looks at Messier and raises an eye. Marena blinks and sputters. Thimia just nods, as though that makes perfect sense. To either side of her, the other half caste blinks in confusion while the mortal completely misses how impossible that's supposed to be.

"How much experience did you have saved up?" Marena whispers, a faint note of horrified fascination in her voice. "And how much of it did you spend?"

"Enough. And too much. I can't do that again, if that's what you're asking." The fucking freaks voice is exhausted, which all of a sudden makes perfect sense.

"Ah... excuse me?" The mortal woman interjects. "May I ask what exactly that means? I'm not exactly martially inclined, or knowledgeable about the use of essence."

Marena goes to respond, and then pauses, unsure. Karen gets it. How do you explain a character sheet to an npc? How do you explain color to someone who is blind?

Sometimes, we gain nothing from the first nine hundred and ninety nine swings, and it is only the one thousandth that gives us anything. And, sometimes, the thing we gain is totally unrelated to the task at hand. Those thousand sword swings might serve as the catalyst that causes us to grow more skilled at archery, for example."

"But", the woman stutters out in confusion. "That doesn't make any sense? How can practicing the sword make you better at archery? Those two things aren't connected at all!"

This time, it's Messier who speaks up.

"I turned off my ability to learn and grow. In the process of turning it back on, I basically spent a year and a half worth of study and self reflection in the span of about twenty seconds, which meant I learned almost everything about what was going on around me. Including the charms they were using."

She flickers her own eyes off to the side, towards Marena, and shrugs. Her sister nods faintly, and then three of them look towards Misho's wife, Thimia. She fiddles with her ring faintly, before shrugging.

"I think Misho will be fine with it." And with that, they're a team.

1) Expies - it should be set in an original multiverse. Expies are always cringe.
2) It's a porn story without porn
3) Author's morality - it's a story about a multiversal school preaching about mind controlling people, so why does every chapter have paragraphs about real world politics?
4) Powerwanking - instead of the obvious "wow, hot lesbians mind controlling each other" angle the story is just the author writing hundreds of thousands of words about how strong the setting is. Yeah, the tech, magic etc is cool but I'm not here for that man.

Kinda, One of the big problems is you would have to stitch it back together because after the Weaver trapped it it broke apart into three separate aspects. So you would have to put it back together and then make it immune to getting trapped again as well as convincing it not to take revenge and make the cycle of creation imbalanced in the other direction.

Both things are true. The rest of Ironheart is as terrible as the first two episodes mainly due to the plot simultaneously want to portray Riri as a well-intentioned person haunted by grief but ALSO to enable the funni eat the rich heist plot AT ANY COST, resulting in Riri trying to befriend the people she’s blackmailing, fight with her AI friend and attempt to see the best in career criminals who ultimately try to kill her before being unceremoniously dismissed by their own boss for gross incompetence. A plot point from Black Panther 2, the idea that the key to making seemingly impossible super science breakthroughs is literally to incorporate objects symbolising some kind of past relationship into the construction of the thing you’re building, returns. At least this time they have the decency to have it be to enable ACTUAL MAGIC instead of the weird fencesitting they do about whether the heart-shaped herb and under Wakandan resources are truly science or magic.

At the same time yes, Riri ends up isolating so many people due to her bad decisions that I think she’d be comically easy to hook up with by giving even token support to her unhinged decisions. Or you know, flashing a lot of money. Because the entire plot is Riri’s finances existing in a state of quantum uncertainty where she can afford to go to uni on a scholarship from her being smart enough to build an Iron Man suit AND explicitly other gadgets such as the vibranium detector that was the reason why the US government had her on a watchlist in BP2, but also somehow simultaneously feels the need to help people cheat on exams because she needs the money, AND her financial situation isn’t urgent enough she isn’t making a fortune with online super tech commissions or some shit because by her own admission she wants to make something “iconic” although the series also tries to communicate she genuinely wants to make something that genuinely helps people. Badly...

Riri could have been awesome. If she were an inner city kid, inspired by tony stark trying to build a power armor with a budget of $0.
Have her start out with a suit that barely works not because of her incompetence but because it's she is making it from nothing. Basically thrown away electronics and salvaged scrap.
Have her beat up some normal crooks but then struggle against anyone with real super powers, forcing her to outwit her enemies. Eventually she gets noticed by Stark's family they take the girl under their wings and she actually gets to build a super suit and kick the ass of some of the people that were giving her trouble earlier.
I think this would be a better story honestly. Maybe I am a shit writer, maybe someone with actual talent could do better but I am just saying there was potential here.

There is what I can only describe as the skeleton of a genuinely fine superhero origin story inherent in the show, that is completely ignored to tell a very specific story in a way so specific it feels like the marketing team and/or suits directly told the writers to include specific things (i.e. there MUST be a quippy exciting heist, Riri MUST get into a fight with her absolute saint of a mom who deserves a better daughter and who is literally willing to get in touch with ex-Masters of the Mystic Arts trainees to support her child’s ambitions. No, but without it you can't contact your patron god or receive favors and aid from them in future jumps. The perk helps you maintain constant link and communication, and as you spread their influence they can increase their ability to interfere and influence the world from empowering further worshipers to eventually being able to send messages and divine servants when they get influential enough. And just as how a God can give visions or show favor for someone who isn't a cleric, so too will they still be able to continue to support you in future jumps even if you aren't a divine caster.

Looks kind of like you were taking a stab at the branching class promotions from that game as a more general design thing? Personally would suggest that dark magic be lumped in with the drop-in/old lore (read: Formortis and the sealing) stuff so you can have that be distinct from the unintentionally solid throughline Lute and L'arachel give for supremely confident normal spellcaster/healer. Or maybe just have dark magic in with thief as generic evil stuff since they didn't get mapped to a split either? Would make the deception perk good to pull double duty since you'd have normal roguish hoodwinking along with Lyon's whole bit of not actually being possessed (initially). For items, I'd suggest cheating and using some of the unique skills/weapons the Sacred Stones characters got in Heroes if you don't just want to repeat a chunk of the standard/GBA-specific item roster, and some unique stuff that might make sense like a merc band/outfit that serves as the extra muscle that would've been backing up Gerick/Marissa or some things that might be useful later like a way to summon the local Terrors (basically an FE - Awakening Reeking Box, but it spawns/summons monsters from Magvel instead of Risen) or a copy of the Lagdou Ruins for training/looting. Maybe a title as a landed noble since you work with at least one noble from each of the not-evil nations in that game (Tana, Joshua, and L'Arachel, to name a few).

Could have it be that the origins change class role based on nation/faction picked, since the Peg Knights and Wyvern Riders are as always in two opposing nations (Frelia and Grado).

Or for a more general example a dating sim could actually show your affection scores with the people around you and let you get ridiculous bonus points for giving minor items as gifts. I would suggest this. Ecchi perks and drawbacks kick in at a certain age. You can get them, they are just dormant until you are old enough people might want to do Ecchi stuff with you. At least for the perks. Maybe the drawbacks get modified a bit if you are under a certain age. Instead of having a Yandere girl that wants to be your waifu, you have a Yandere girl who is a friend who is bossy and wants to run your life and keep you all to herself.

I think I was going for a kind of 'build your own class' thing, where you could replicate some of the classes we don't see very often like the Great Knight (getting the mounted perk and the armored perk from the Lance perkline), or the Mage Knight by getting tome use from Mage and the Mounted from Lance.

Keep in mind the protagonist they wanted people to cheer for an identify with was literally portrayed as being a dishonest criminal actively helping other students to cheat at a college she got a scholarship to just for some cash on the side and THEN when she got caught decided that she'd just go ahead and steal college property in the form of the iron man suit that a team of people, which included but was not limited to her and which she categorically did not own, and then after she stole it and caused immense property damage she showed no remorse whatsoever. It's almost to the level of outright parody and yet we know that the writers actually wanted viewers to like Riri and didn't see the problem with how they wrote the character. If the character had actually used that alleged super intelligence, or god forbid just talked to her damn support network like her fucking mom on what she could do to make money, then the entire story would fall apart. This doesn't apply to Carmen at this point. She doesn't think in terms of "being happy" anymore. It's not even something she cares about. She thinks people ought to follow their id, their intrusive thoughts, these desires that stem from toxic places. she believes that you should be guided by these intrusive thoughts that creep up in your head, those petty, monstrous and pointless things you turn yourself away from doing.

So she just... isn't in a mental space for the setting, because she doesn't think of happiness as a good thing anymore. She doesn't believe in it, she doesn't care for it, she believes in people doing whatever they want even if this hurts them or other people, she thinks this is the highest moral imperative. One "actualized" person who's doing what they want is worth any number of "happy" people who aren't doing that, even if the desire is pic related.
