My players want a magical girl game, but they're all dudes and most are really awkward at the idea of playing female characters. What do I do?
>>96863893gurps
Ill be your magic man bruv. call me Gwendolyn and ill be your huckleberry
>>96863893>What do I do?Have them all be traps/twinks
>>96863893I bid you beseech them to reconsider.
>>96863893 couple of options:A) Have them play as the villains of a magical girl show, so they can still be guys.B) same, but the magical girls became evil so now the villains need to stop them so that there's actually a world left to conquer.C) they can be the mascots that grantthe girls powers and the game is about managing them and helping them get through school, etc, without stressing out.D) they can be schoolboys that turn into girls only when they use their powers. This can happen because the power-granting mcguffins were intended for girls but accidentally landed on an all-boys academy or sonething.Mentally, they are still guys, but now they get to see the other side. F) they can just be boys that transform into male wizardsG) power rangers. Magical girls is kinda just power rangers with less kung fu and more frills. You get a lot of the same tropes and story structure.
>>96863893This some kind of bait? Your players asked to play that kind of game; did you say yes? What else is there to do? Schedule a time and start groundwork. I've gradually drifted away from 'madoka type' teenage trauma plots; so if they're not signing up for that specifically get your monster of the week adventure setup ready and tell them to each pick a different color so their costumes aren't all the same.Must be a fucking decade ago I last tried to play in something like that. It's not that fucking hard and not that fucking deep. If they're looking to be superpowered lesbians, whatever. If not, give them a cute creature that looks like a stuffed animal they can throw into a bicycle basket and have it tell them where there are monsters to laserbeam.
>>96863893Play a mecha game instead.
>>96863893Shave, put on makeup, wear a wig, a cute skirt and cat ears, and suck them off under the table. Obviously.
>>96863893>and most are really awkward at the idea of playing female characterOkay, so why do they want to play such a game in the first place?Pick Magical Burst or OVA.
>>96863893>Transforms>Magical powers>Monster of the weekNot that complicated.
>>96863893You run a Symphogear game, obviously.
>>96863893If they're down for it, then do it. If not, then don't do it. You absolute demented frog.
>>96863893Power Ranger or Super Sentai are basically Magical Girls for boys, though personally I'd go with >>96863924Or just lean into the darker aspect of mortals making pacts with powers they don't fully understand and have the magical forms look proper weird and using them taxing on both mind and body.
>>96863893
>>96863893Depending on what exactly you mean by a magical girl game, you could justify the presence of magical girls by having your players play as the villains.
>>96863924reposting from older thread>one player has been chosen as Magical Girl (male), he can transform to fight whatever threat comes to town >the rest are his friends / classmates that know about his secret identity and form the Support Team>there's incentive beyond friendship - Magical Girl transformation lasts fixed amount of time (say, one hour) and if the monster of the week is defeated fast enough the rest of that time is available to do... whatever, practicing, experimenting, pushing the limits of own abilities, or fooling around with the Support Team>obviously it's not gay if everyone finishes before the transformation time runs out>de-transformation even has the courtesy to clean up any mess the MG might have been covered in, whether that's monster blood or anything else
>>96863893>My players want a magical girl game>most are really awkward at the idea of playing female charactersOBJECTION! Your honor, these two statements contradict each other. Players who are uncomfortable with playing female characters would NOT request a game in a genre where everyone of any importance is female!Your story is made up.
Politely but firmly suggest they go home, fap, shower and return. Then offer a super sentai game instead, it's essentially the same as mahou shoujo.
>>96863893>They want to do this>But they're mostly awkward about itSending us some pretty mixed signals there, OP.
>>96864269I'm currently running He-Man using Starfinder. Mostly because it's one of the only systems that balances "Grunk the Barbarian who's power is having a big sword." and "Power armoured space marine with his gatling cannon." against each other.
>>96866497I recommend either E20 or BESM for Power Rangers.
>>96867283One of several, rather.
>>96864003>Have them play as the villains of a magical girl show, so they can still be guys. This idea speaks to me something fierce.
>>96864003/thread>>96867395no corrective/corruptive rape is to be involved, anon
>>96865238Is the middle one intentionally missing an arm in her 4 arm setup?>>96863893Magical boys instead of magical girls
>>96867337Whatever you do, DO NOT use BESM. It is the worst fucking dogshit system I've ever run. We ran it 3 sessions and dropped it because it's unfinished trash that basically treats the rules as suggestions.
>>96868065/unthread
>>96865238source me, cap'nor is it just a one-shot joke?because i would read about magical super modes being 'horrible monster' instead of 'cute girl tee hee'
>>96868065I just want to be Organization XIII, laughing and being weird while being a super cool boss fight, man.
>>96865238Dreadful.
>>968681183 arm setup>>96868556it is one-shot doujin (non-lewd), called "henshin kaijo"
>>96865554What the fuck is wrong with Japan now why is it so gay
>>96868704between the nukes, mercury poisoning thrpugh seafish, and being bullied into nation-wide mentality of pacifism, Japan never had a chance
>>96868733>mercury poisoning thrpugh seafish>it's realYou learn something new every day.
>>96863910Which splats do I need, and what is your skype or zoom? Since you're recommending it, you must be willing to hop on and teach my group how to play.
>>96868215Skill issue.BESM 2R is a borderline perfect system.
>>96870169I ran 3e tristat and it was abysmal dogshit where movement is just "oh you know whatever the GM thinks is okay", fuck that noise. I want my system to have actual rules, not vague bullshit.Otherwise, it's no different from Mutants and Masterminds which is built on the abysmal dogshit that is d20 modern. It's just D&D with superheroes and gets cleared by Prowlers & Paragons.
>>96868704Anon, that greentext was invented by a westerner. You have no right to complain about Japan's brain problems when you can't even conceptualize not eating breakfast
>>96868678I read it, it's fun. A bunch of monsters trying to survive in society by being high school girls.
>>96863893>What do I do?Refuse.
>>96865238Oh hey, I recognize this art style (two times over)
>>96863893just go with it
>>96863893Just pic your favorite proxy battles (pokemon, digimon, gash bell, angelic layer, medabots) system and run it reskinned. They play as the agents for each girl in an idol group, that are secretly an organization of exorcists fighting demons. To society, each PC looks like an agent representing an idol. At night, each PC is actually a warlock controlling his patron goddess, who takes the form of a magical girl, and fights.>>96864003>>96864065Or this, magical girl is directly translatable to mecha and toku.
>>96865554Sauce?
>>96863893Power Rangers.
>>96871454You can read spilled rice or is it available in English?
>>96877772Only chink so far. That said it doesn't really lean hard into the "monster" angle, they're girls with quirky backstories for all intents and purposes.https://e-hentai.org/g/2323709/8bccec37df/
>>96863893Why not make them the Tuxedo Masks.
>>96863893>My players want a magical girl game, but they're all dudes and most are really awkward at the idea of playing female characters. It's like wanting a gangster game but not liking gunfights.
>>96871110BESM up through 3E uses theatre of the mind combat, not battle grids. You needed to use the community tactical rules for that. Also, 3E is such a bad game that it bankrupted the company. 1E through 2R was refining a single system to near perfection. 3E was a complete ground-up departure.
>>96881168>It's like wanting a gangster game but not liking gunfights. That could be an interesting challenge.
>>96881168I could see that working. OP's case is like wanting dungeon crawls but not in closed spaces or a hexcrawl while staying in one place.
