Should men and women have access to different magical abilities? How would you implement this gender divide in the system you run your game in?
>>
>>96871681
Never considered doing that. Can't really see much reason why you couldn't use some magic just because you have a dick or a pussy.
>>
>>96871681
It would make sense in a setting like Glorantha where magic is intrinsically tied to the gods.
If women's magic comes from an 'earth mother' type of goddess then it would make sense for them to have magic that suits their role as homemakers and caregivers. Meanwhile men, gaining their power from the 'sky father', would have magic more suited to war, hunting and leadership.
>>
>>96871681
I prefer the idea that you *can* do whatever type of magic you want, but its not always wise to do so. using magic means channeling these supernatural forces through your body. That always has a cost.

Using magic that is more naturally female-aligned (Moon magic, fertility stuff, etc) as a man is possible, but doing it too often can physical weaken or change you. Same for women that use male-aligned sources of power.

This also then folds nicely into why certain schools of magic are forbidden: necromancy and eldritch powers are not just vile in nature, but actively dangerous to the person wielding them because of the physical and psychological damage they inflict over time. There could be unique, twisted monsters in the world that are specific wizards that delved into powers beyond their control and came away from the experience having lost their humanity in the process. That sort of thing.
>>
>>96871681
Depends on the system. Got one in mind, nogames?
>>
>>96871840
Women are better at death/destruction magic while men excel at life magic, like in Japanese creation myth.
>>96871681
depends on the system and the setting you're having.
Are biological realties of pregnancy and menstruation relevant to the campaign or story?
Are your players capable enough to roleplay as the other sex without suffering an AGP mental breakdown?
If you have -4str -2int +∞ for being female, you could also have different schools of magic be sex gated.

Mods aren't interested in keeping this site clean anymore. The culture war has to be fueled and sensible people have to be driven away.
Resident autists and trolls have free rein. Fairly certain 90% of pucklfuck threads are just autistic trolls, by now.
You can even give it a try.
When I tried to humorously poke fun at pucklfuck and steer the threats into a more positive direction, I was almost instantly banned. When I impersonated him, it took several blatantly broken rules for the thread to merely be removed.
>>
>>96871681
That's the magic system in the Wheel of Time. You don't want to emulate that.

>When I impersonated him, it took several blatantly broken rules for the thread to merely be removed.
Out of morbid curiosity, what did finally get you banned?
>>
I just have a patriarchal world where it is mostly men and some exceptional women who are allowed to study and practice magic formally. Exception are religious orders where many women who take vows receive training on healing magic. Most other kind of female spellcasters of the setting are variously competent witches who learned the craft from another witch.

>Should men and women have access to different magical abilities
culturally, sure, but i wouldnt implement any meta/physical condition to why one sex could or could not learn the other could or could not learn.

the only non cringe inducing way I've ever seen this idea done is in xianxia where men are naturally yang aspected and women are naturally yin aspected, and there's various techniques that interact with this, like dao partners being able to dual cultivate and benefit each other, evil demonic path techniques that harvest others to nourish yourself, people born with unique physiques like an extreme yin body that grants unparalleled excellence with ice and other yin techniques but in exchange they suffer from cold poison and reduced lifespan, dumbasses overdosing on extreme yang pills or techniques and literally exploding in spontaneous combustion, etc.

I haven't seen it done in a non-cringey way in any western fantasy setting off the top of my head. 9/10 times it's usually just an excuse for the protagonist to be stupidly overpowered as they get the best of both worlds. Even Dune (which isn't really fantasy) works like this where the Kwisach Haderach can learn normally female exclusive bene gesserit techniques and master both halves of their genetic memory to become a godlike figure with perfect prescience to walk the golden path. The only other people who can access both male and female memories are abominations exposed to the water of life in utero, who because they never develop an ego of their own by having ancestral memories from birth, are essentially "possessed" by the generic memory of whichever ancestors bullies their way to the front. Normal bene gesserit can only access female genetic memory. Wheel of Time has the protagonist literally be the chosen one Dragon Reborn who's the Messiah and the male female split exists almost entirely just to jerk him off as well.
>>
>>96877949
>Why can't someone with XX chromosomes access Y genetic memories, but an XY can access both?!
lol
>>
>>96877968
XX chromosomes can access both memories. Alia is literally possessed by her grandfather Baron Harkonnen.

Not only did you not actually read Dune, you apparently can't even be fucking bothered reading the post you replied to which directly summarizes Children of Dune for you

In theory I like the notion of classes and such being limited to specific sexes as an axis of differentiation.
In practice though, there's a big fat huge problem: players don't like playing characters that are different sex than they themselves are, and all players are men (don't lie, all of you are male, everyone in this hobby is male). So any female-only option you create is going to be NPC-only. Wasted text.

Elephants can't talk.
>>
>>96871681
What game are you running/playing in and how is it handled there?
>>
>>96878547
Neither can the one who made this thread.
>>
>>96871840
>what is Yin and Yang
The male and female souls are oriented differently. The female is oriented downwards into the material world while the male is oriented upward into the spiritual world.
>>
>>96878547
Can you elaborate further?
>>
>>96878577
Sure. Elephants lack the kind of vocal cords that can produce legible speech. Even if they did have those, they don't have the mental capacity to talk.
>>
>>96871681
I don't see any advantage to mechanically restricting it but I think there can definitely be social expectations about the type and degree of magic men or women are expected to perform. I've done anywhere from "any woman using magic is putting her life in her hands" to "you know spells? man, what a fag!"
>>
>>96873312
So you have no game? Got it.
>>
>>96879074
I see. Can you expand on that?
>>
>>96879074
Maybe Elephants just don't want to talk to you.
>>
>>96877343
What about them?

you become an abomination by becoming exposed to the water of life in utero. They don't troon themselves Y chromosomes you retard. "Abomination" is also used separately to refer to bene gesserit using their metabolic control to cease aging which they're all capable of but they forbid doing it because if the galaxy was aware of immortal space witches manipulating things from behind the scenes they'd draw too high a profile and come into conflict, so they voluntarily allow themselves to grow old and die.
>>
>>96871929
Oh, sweet, I'm gonna go cast moonblast at a rock about 2000 times
>>
>>96879671
Yes. Elephants do actually communicate with various vocalizations that research suggests carry specific meanings. However, many other animals are capable of similar communication and it can't really be called "speech."
>>
>>96871681
>How would you implement this gender divide in the system you run your game in?
Like in real life, by choice, they generally pick ones more than others like say enchantments over artifices.
