At an Italian fair yesterday I was given a Burger King book that reads like a D&D-style TTRPG manual; classes, abilities, dice, the works. I’ve never seen this at other BKs. Is this an Italy-only promo? Is there an English version or any official release news? Links or details appreciated.
>>
>>96889861
can't find any info via google, probably a small press euro only thing, check the inside cover for production date/ company info etc
>>
>>96889861
Perhaps this is a sign that you are the rightful heir to the burger kingdom.
>>
>>96889884
I checked inside and it looks like it was printed by an Italian company. If it’s only for this country, that’s a shame; I would’ve liked to play, but I don’t understand much Italian

By the way, who knows these characters? Well, besides Burger King, obviously. This page has the Duke of Doubt

Weird, with the obvious English names you would think the Italian is the translated version. If you would be a champ to scan it, others can handle that OCR and translation work.

fwiw, the Duke of Doubt was a real attempt in the 70s to give the Burger King mascot a sidekick/rival who basically existed to shit on every claim made by the Burger King that he's as fun or his franchise's food is as delicious as he says it is, so whoever made this is doing one hell of a deep dive and should be commended
>>
>>96889933
>tfw Italian Burger King has better worldbuilding than fa/tg/uys.
>>
>>96890611
Wait, what? So this Duke is a redesign of the ’70s mascot? So are the other characters, too?
>>
>>96890638
Correcto. Looked for a commercial where the french fry powered robot and ice cream addicted knight are in the same shot, so forgive the grainy screenshot quality.
>>
Didn't Wendy's do this a few years back with some evil ice wizard as a meme about how their burgers aren't frozen?

Why are TTRPGs an advertising venue now
>>
>>96889861
This reminds me of the time that Wendy's did their own tabletop RPG promotional thing. It was actually playable (And actually kind of good, except it was short.)
I was loosely based off of early 5e rules. It handled Crits in an interesting way. If you rolled a natural 20 during combat, you basically got another turn.
>>
>>96890686
Yeah, Wendy's did the exact same thing.

I did some research and wow—are these the original characters? Whoever made the book really cooked, haha. The original wizard was super weird, haha
>>
>be in Italy
>be surrounded by some of the best food in the whole fucking world
>"nah, I'm gonna go have some corporate fast food burgers and fries"
! ?
>>
>>96890687
Yeah, I remember the Wendy’s game! Is there anywhere to download it—PDF version works too?
>>
>>96890818
Yeah, that's the original characters. I am definitely curious how this book recontextualizes these guys for the game, considering how goofy the originals were.

I can try translating them with Google Lens and see what comes out

>Burger King
The King and lord of the Domain, a fervent lover of burgers and the grill, wants to share his passion with the entire multiverse.
His crown allows him to partially reshape the Domain to reflect his taste. His nature as Lord of the Domain grants him near-divine traits.
A lover of adventurers’ tales of glory, he invites them to his table for incredible banquets and receptions.
He is the third of his dynasty, a refined connoisseur of good food who, in his youth, lived many adventures alongside Sir Shake-a-Lot: expeditions beyond the Sesame Lands, duels against elemental lords of fire, and the legendary quest for the “perfect recipe.”
Today he keeps those memories as a guide for new heroes.

>Duke of Doubt
In service to the Burger King-Dom, he uses the arts of divination—and his order of specialized Clerics—to find heroes to bring to the banquet, pleasing the Burger King with their stories.
During one of his adventures with the Burger King, he picked up a cursed object—noticed by no one—which increased his powers of divination but sparked in him an insatiable hunger for knowledge. From that moment on, he lost his faith and began to doubt that the Burger King had the best burgers of all, because they can no longer sate him.
Since then, he secretly gazes into other worlds in search of whatever or whoever granted him those powers, so that it will allow him to steal the Burger King’s crown and become lord of the Domain himself, for he believes that changing the tastes of the entire King-Dom is the only way to satisfy the hunger of the curse.

>Wizard of Fries
The court wizard. Though acknowledged as one of the realm’s principal powers, he is a guardian construct, created by magic to open the Domain to new heroes and make its inhabitants happy.
He was left as a tribute to the Burger King by a famous and mighty wizard who, after tasting BK’s burgers during a dimensional journey, decided that the realm deserved an eternal guardian.
He administers the Griglioteca, the greatest library-pantry in the Burger King-Dom: shelves of arcane recipes, maps of spices, frying scrolls, and chronicles of heroes. There he selects the worthy, assigns trials, and preserves the knowledge that feeds the realm’s flame.

>Sir Shake-a-Lot
Commander of the royal guard, faithful companion to the King and protector of the realm, he trains the troops dedicated to defending and safeguarding the subjects of the Burger King-Dom.
His incessant cold-induced trembling has made the clatter of his armor unmistakable, to the point that every monster or rogue now flees as soon as they hear it.
His over-the-top passion for smoothies led him to ask BK for a castle on the snowy peaks so he could have them on hand in every season.
Through relentless patrols he has crossed every province of the continent, mapping safe routes and reactivating forgotten bastions.
He has compiled training notebooks distributed to every garrison and, when he takes the field, morale rises and many surrender before the fight begins.
On the Peaks he trains recruits with high-altitude drills: cold hands, warm heart.

You were 'given' the manual? As in, a free promotional gift?
I suppose you've been going to Lucca Comics, if so where did you get it precisely? I have some friends there right now and they might snag a copy for me too if I'm lucky.

>>96891342
On a quick skim, the translations seem accurate.
>>
Now i want an RPG world with warring restaurant factions.
>>

Ugh.
>>
>>96892043
Yes, exactly! I was at Lucca Comics yesterday! And yes, the copy was a freebie; a guy in a Burger King jacket handed it to me as I was leaving the fair. I can’t say exactly where, but it was near a red-brick gate.

Thanks greatly for the translations, anon. They do sound like they have the spirit of these mascot characters down, and at least they're doing more than just advertising cheap (well, used to be) burgers.
>>
>>96892136
>>96892255
>>96892267
That would be so awesome! A game where each class is the mascot of a different chain, haha. Too bad they’d never agree to make something like that
>>
>>96892377
Yeah, it looks like the characters are well-developed; really weird for a burger company, haha. It’s making me want to play it; too bad it’s not in English.

So I can recognize (top right, going clockwise)
Burger King
Taco bell chihuahua
Ronald McDonald
?
Colonel Sanders

The Noid (Domino's Pizza)
Wendy

Who's the minotaur and the green lady?
>>
>>96893226
I think it’s the Starbucks siren, while the minotaur (cow) might be associated with Chick-fil-A.

Can you scan it, OP? Or take really good fat photos?

I’ll see if I can find a way to scan the manual in the next few days.

The manual and sets of dice are distributed at the Lucca and Milan con; more unspecified items beginning December 1st in the fast food restaurants. Perhaps plastic toys?

Thanks, anon, for the sites! They’re super useful! So starting December 1, are they going to distribute something? It’d be interesting to know what, haha. Let’s hope some Italian gives us an update

Italian here, we don’t know anything as well. Two italian streamers were supposed to advertise this thing but they didn’t. I tried to find them in lucca but it was difficult. I’ll keep you updated! Meanwhile, I’m really interested in the pdf lol
