But rip looking at my old d&d concept it sounds retarded and unoriginal Humanity once has a expansive empire has collapsed into a bunch states trying to kill each other and they withdrawal from the frontiers I also given them Greco roman aestheticElves are finally reclaiming the frontiers but are still salty about how humanity basically used legions to wipe them out Drawves exist and don't care they just want money and profit off humanity Orcs goblins and magical beasts make venturing beyond the massive cities and frontiers deadly Your party has to navigate the world and claim treasure to pay off a debt to be free
>>96891604It isn't original at all.Any idea or creation we can make will always be derived from something else.

>>96891604The first step to good worldbuilding is recognizing that “originality” isn’t anywhere near the most important aspect. Including humans at all is unoriginal—I can’t count the number of works that include humans. The second step to good worldbuilding is recognizing that you still need to make those unoriginal and shared elements into something that’s your own. Just the way the details fit together can make or break a setting.
>>96891604First, don't worry about being original. In the context of a D&D setting, this all seems fine though, since it gives a reason why there's ancient ruins to plunder and various fantasy races in places.>good world buildingThis is a trap unless you're doing it purely for the sake of your own joy of creative writing. Don't worry about building a world, worry about building a village or a town or a country first, since that's what players will interact with first. 500 years of imperial history is rarely going to actually matter.
>>96891604It isn't original, it takes a lot from mainstream fantasy and history. But you know what? It sounds interesting
>>96891604>Humanity once has a expansive empireOne bighuge empire? Any outer, smaller settlements that weren't politically aligned? How did that empire come about? Where was the competition as the empire grew? How did the empire grow, as an important kingdom that sat in the middle of trade routes so outer nations? A kingdom that had access to substantially more resources than others? Did humans magically band together as an insular community because racist elves and dwarves were doing the same?Where are the elves, dwarves, and orcs in relation to the human empire?
