Remember that the Fog of War championship will be in December 11-13. It's not that easy to learn, so it's better to start preparing now.
>>
If Keymer doesn't qualify for the candidates, that's some bullshit. The guy has the worst luck. Ties for the win at the Grand Swiss as one of only two players in the top 10 to have 6 blacks and 5 whites. Loses tie breaks by having opponents 27 rating lower on average. Basically nothing. Then he gets to round four on the most stacked side of the bracket in the world cup. If Pragg qualifies in this tournament then Vincent will get the grand chess tour spot. Guess what Vincent has to play Pragg for top 4 spot if they both win their games. The guy has the worst luck ever.
>>
>>96948565
The history of chess is full of these stories of bad luck and missed opportunities. Even Carlsen didn't manage to win the World Cup until very late in his career (2023).

Chess is an absolute garbage game. Devolves into plodding nonsense where the winner is determined by who cheated the most. Reading and memorizing chess books is not even playing chess it's literally cheating. Chess needs massive rule overhaul to make into a fun and interesting game instead of plodding slop that only rewards cheaters. Grandmasters are just the biggest cheaters.

It's often called Chess960 because chess jews don't like Fischer's opinions, the reason it hasn't taken over is both because of the strength of the established tradition of conventional chess and because most people aren't good enough at conventional chess to need to learn an auxiliary ruleset for shuffling the board. Hikaru is the current FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Champion so it's not as if the format died with Fischer.

Fischer's idea wasn't original, moving the starting position around was a well-known idea in Europe with such games falling under the umbrella term Shuffle Chess. Fischer Random is just one type of Shuffle Chess.

>>96959254
As Fischer himself said he wasn't trying to sell it as "the greatest thing since puffed weed", it's just an improvement. Randomizing it doesn't mean all knowledge is useless, if that was the case the top players would be extremely different to the top of regular chess when they're pretty much the same.
>>
>>96971473
>Fischer Random is just one type of Shuffle Chess.
Yes, and Chess960 is another name for Fischer's variant of shuffle chess rather than a name for a variant distinct from Fischer's.
>Randomizing it doesn't mean all knowledge is useless
Obviously not, but it does pull the opening out of strictly memorized moves, forcing more creativity out of top players who are, of course, drawing on a large body of experience with chess pattern recognition and problem solving.

Ya'll like variants?

Recently discovered a new one called Enochian chess--it's an obscure and esoteric four-player chess game that draws heavily on occult symbolism and was used for divination.

The ruleset is fairly complicated but rewarding once mastered. endless strategic possibility.

i recently made a playable version (complete with very bad bots) if you're interested in trying it out:

I think you can blame the engines for that.
Back in 2019 the player seeds matched up pretty nicely with their chances of making the top 16.
After deep learning models came out it was much easier for lower-ranked players to challenge higher ones with novelties.

>most people aren't good enough at conventional chess to need to learn an auxiliary ruleset for shuffling the board

Surely anybody interested in chess has the mental faculty to have a computer/phone give him(/her lmao) a starting position? Regardless, Fischerrandom absolutely is the future of high level chess because fuck chess theory and the drawing snoozefests it creates. The top level Fischerrandom tournaments are much more interesting because suddenly even the top GMs seem a lot more mortal when their memorization crutch is taken away and blunders happen on move 1.
>>
>>96989028
>Surely anybody interested in chess has the mental faculty to have a computer/phone give him(/her lmao) a starting position?

The difference between a 100 and an 1000 player is 10% knowledge of openings and tactics and 90% not doing retarded blunders. Of course if you have four digit ambitions, eventually you'll have to learn openers and play better players.

i just don't buy this whole notion of there being a great separation within a person between overall general intelligence and chess skill. you just are not going to reach 3400 blitz on chess.com as a midwit. and there you go, world number 2 and you're thinking he's just an average midwit?

magnus is known worldwide as a super genius. being one spot ahead of and you don't make the same case for him because he's been world number one for so long or what's your exception for him? why only hikaru and not magnus? because hikaru is a goofy streamer entertainer and magnus isn't?

how long have you been playing chess and what's your blitz rating on chess.com? if a midwit can make it to world number 2, what is your excuse for having such a poor rating?
