Do you regularly open packs or mostly buy singles?
>>
I'll tack on a new preview card from today. Val & Vaira allow you to use the Burst effect of a card on the field, yours or your opponents.

And I couldn't work through translating 神羅天使. Anyone have an idea of how to approach it? I came up with 'Angelique' as something both Western and Angel related, but I feel like I'm being pulled by the art into thinking that (French maid attire).
>>
>>96929381
Just realized 神羅 is used again near the bottom of the card. Probably related, should inflect off of that instead.

How is this at 3p or 4p?
>>
>>96929547
so... don't? if everybody in your local is mindlessly netdecking the same two things, bring your own creation tuned to beat the shit out of those.

If a set has my Oshi I'll open a box or two for her but otherwise I just grab singles for deckbuilding. That being said, now that I've been meeting people in person to play I've been tempted to open boxes for more trading/selling leverage.
>>
>>96929381
>>96929556
I don't know if there's any good translation for 神羅. It's a made up word pronounced "shinra". It's literally the exact same shinra as in Shinra Company from Final Fantasy 7.
I'd just read it as is without translating it, like it's a name. Lots of cards have it in their title and the ability "Shinra Summon".
>>
>>96929724
Where the fuck is the Ina Oshi card
>>

>>96929381
And I forgot to mention, in that case I'd translate the name of that card as "Shinra Angels, Val & Vaira"

Played it at 3p a few times and it was pretty good
>>
So, Whispers in the Well pre-release is today. Anyone picking up a preorder? I did, but mine won't arrive until Wednesday.
>>
How many Champions are there for Riftbound that can be your chosen right now? I'm looking at the card list on their site and see Leona, who was a favorite of mine, but I don't know what's actually available.
>>
>>96929584
Scales really well and has specific rules to keep things fair.

In a three player game you must score an agent from each other player first before you can score your winning third. That means no one gets held down and blown up until it quickly becomes a head to head match. In four player winning the game is achieved by scoring unique agents from each of the three other players. Scoring over one agent from each player technically is possible, but it only keeps a player in the game longer because they have fewer targets on their back. Not too many games feature a system like that where you can help someone's odds of winning by draining their agents wantonly. It also means the other players who did need that specific player's agent to win have to work harder to find another of theirs from their deck and boardstate.
>>
>>96929785
Lorcana is actually really fun for what it is, but it's too dead locally to want to stay interested.

No pre-order, but might pick up a box today when I go to prerelease. Only 6 people signed up for the event starting in 2 hours, which is not a great sign given we normally get 12-16 at weekly tournaments...

I expect the only card to keep its current price to be new Cinderella. Do note the lack of "another" in the rules text. This bitch can trigger multiple turns.

I really wanted to like this, but I... I just can't. It's just not diverse enough.
EBG really lost their way with this one. The children of Yakub have no place in gaming. We have evolved beyond that.
Hopefully they return to a world more like Earthborne Rangers in 2026.
>>

Once per turn, yes. But she'll trigger herself, and then another turn you play her or another princess, she'd trigger again.

Usually she just triggers once but ramp + card selection is kino.

Can I say that I really do like flavor text on cards, fuckin love it honestly. The League cards do that thing though that I don't like with some tcgs where 90% of the flavor text ware throw away empty 1 liners with no real meaning.

>Do you regularly open packs or mostly buy singles?
I've bought at least a case (4 boxes, 24packs each) of every fab set since the beginning of covid except for 2 specific sets, but those were instances where I went to a lot of limited games so didn't feel the need to buy boxes. I don't open up packs every week but I do I open up a lot of packs every release. I also buy singles to fill what a case and trades didn't bring me, but it's far less than starting from scratch.
>>
>>96929184
>Do you regularly open packs or mostly buy singles?
I buy 1 box on set release if it's reasonable and then I buy 1 pack every weekly.
I buy singles to fill out what I need.
>>
>>96929184
Never opened a bad booster box in my entire life
Sure you might not get the cards you want but you can easily sell what you got or trade it for what you do and buy what you need after
The randomness of the booster box is that it can pay for itself and more or give you cards that in the future will spike when a new set releases a card with synergy for old cards
>>
>>96931511
After seeing the retail price to card quality ratio on EBR idk if I care anymore. It's not like theres going to be literally any OP where I live that I'll miss out on because EBG don't give a fuck about people actually playing their games.

Honestly if there's basically no OP would this really even qualify as a /acg/. Even Arkham Horror gets fucking OP

>But what's the demand for it these days, beyond nostalgia? What would make a Chaotic revival worthwhile and would it reasonably compete in an already crowded market?
Scalping is at an all time high right now for card games, why not? There's a huge demand for any card game, I go to Target or Walmart in my area and I can barely find anything not sports-card related (Lorcana deck boxes, Ultra Pro Binders, those little plastic collectible toys). It's frustrating just seeing scalpers ruin the card section.
But I think Chaotic could succeed because not only of the nostalgia, but the recent uptick on Whatnot auctions and Ebay sales of old collections and booster boxes shows there's still quite a big community for it. Just like the Netrunners card game before it got a second chance at life.
Of course the financial investment risk is there, but that's why I suggest the crowdfunding route. Let the people vote with their wallets. Let them fund the comeback for the card game so you can see the true demand for it. If it fails, it fails, but we'll have a recent data point after 17 years of not trying at all.
If it never happens I'll just save up to buy an Ursis card on the 2ndary market because he is my favorite Chaotic creature of all time, but I will always keep hope in my heart because I think the card game deserves it.

Am I stupid or is Hidden almost pointless on this card?
It's already an Action so you can use it during a battle, so you're just paying one additional mana to turn it into a Reaction instead? That seems like a steep and risky cost for an incredibly niche upside.
>>
>>96936526
Last warning

Big money is moving out of Poke, out of Mag, and flowing back into other interests. Hide your kids, hide your wife, cause everybody's getting scalped up in here.
>>
>>96936261
They're gonna be printing more product, I would imagine that + hype dying down would lead to singles getting cheaper
>>
>>96936678
No, you're recycling 1 to turn it into a reaction. You don't pay anything to reveal it.
The only downside is that it can only target things at its battlefield if it's hidden.
>>
>>96936861
Singles are cheaper when people open packs rather than hoard them. Supply high, demand for singles is outstripped after everyone has theirs. Scalping alone can only impose collector value of cards but it's actual players that are in need of the singles to play that gives them meaning.

Wait, flipping hidden cards is FREE?
I was explicitly told that you still pay their cast cost, hiding's main advantage was that it made cards reaction speed.
>>
>>96938766
Did you not read the card? Recycle a rune to hide them, pay 0 to reveal as reaction. Pretty clear.

What isn't clear is you can't flip them the turn you play them, and they can only target the Battlefield that they're at when revealed.

>There's a huge demand for any card game, I go to Target or Walmart in my area and I can barely find anything not sports-card related
Anybody who lived through both of the bubbles of the sports card world in the late '90s and the TCG world of the early 2000s knows we're right in the middle of that cycle yet again.

40 - Beta Starters
80 - Battlefield Playmat, two player (I've seen it for 40 before, but not anymore)
100 - Booster Display for Arthurian Legends

360 dollery doos total

They're selling you the stuff people wants/can use at market value and handing you a free Arthurian legends box on top. I wouldn't call that entry level though, I'd stop at one box of precons and 12 packs each player to begin.

Went to a card show. Found a bunch of things I wanted. Unfortunately the show was 99% pokemon. I did find a guy with some ScoreZ cards, but nothing I wanted.
Oh, and several vendors recognize me now, which is fun. One guy started opening his binders to cat cards as I was walking up. Fun day today. Would have loved to see more game variety, though. And absolutely zero Neopets cards anywhere.

>>96945603
Aren't they 1 and 2 of a kinds? So there's no way to build a precon with a box? I understand pullrates aren't guaranteed but I think that in most other games you should reasonably be able to build a starter with a box break, with very few edge cases where you would just have to buy a couple singles to 100% a precon list. Thanks for mentioning the difference with Gothic as I haven't preordered that yet, but I have two boxes locked in.

I have yet to open any sorc cards. Wondering if just a box of alpha would be enough to make a suitable precon if I opened it?

By opening a booster box, you'll most likely end up with a complete, or nearly complete, set of ordinaries, some sets of exceptionals, and most likely singles of elites, not to mention uniques, which you might get none that you need. In my experience, one box will get you an approximate of the precons, but you'll miss the guaranteed identity rarer cards might get you.

One booster box most likely will get you a fairly functional limited deck
>>
>>96946425
there's pretty much no much way you will be able to recreate any of the starter decks from one box because of the pull rates of uniques/avatars/and exceptional sites. You will be able to make a 2 element deck from one box for sure though. To get the cards from all 4 starter decks you would need to open multiple boxes probably, but by then you'd be able to build a better deck than any of the precons. Beta precon is a good deal if you just want to play right away comes with 4 decks and goes for 35-40 on ebay.

I think that's why so many people are running Teemo right now. It can stand up to the meta decks pretty well and the only expensive card you need for that is Thousand Tailed Watcher, which is around $40-$50 and most lists I see only run 2 of them.
>>

>>
How do you even revive a dead game? Not like literally dead but one that never took off and is still getting sets but is on life support.
>>
>>96949136
It can be possible locally if you have a big friend group and you're all looking for something new and your opinion matters to them enough to try and log term what you're suggesting to them. It's rare but I've seen that happen a couple of times. But on the larger scale that stuff is very hard. Like if you're the owner of that game's company, making it happen artificially is impossible. Especially now that the market is so saturated. Smaller local communities keep getting into large games all over the place.
