Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to early Dungeons & Dragons - less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about. Any OSR games and related topics, including OD&D, AD&D 1e/2e, B/X, NuSR, etc. are welcome here!

Whats your favorite Megadungeon?

Welcome to yet another samefag-populated hijack thread created by our resident schizo.

Actual thread can be found here:

We're just waiting for it to get past page 3 before making a proper new thread, as normal. Please report this one for trolling. Thank you.

Fuck 2e and fuck nusr.
Even if they are on topic they are still the most dog shit boring games to exist.
>>
>>96959105
Sorry, this is the new thread. Please dont troll here, post about OSR. r/brosr might be a better place for you if you dont agree with the definition here.
>>
>>96959121
Actually, unlike yourself, instead of complaining I think I'm just going to continue talking about whatever games I'd like.

My favorite mega dungeon is Stone hell by the way, might possibly be the best I've ever encountered, both in terms of content quality and how superbly formatted it is.
Also, ACKS good, 2e bad
>>
>>96959106
I do not agree with your tastes, but you are of course free and welcome to express them. This is the thread for all OSR, so say whatever you wish to say about them, since this is the thread about them.

Though, I do need to at least call you a cunt first. You cunt.
>>
Can I talk about OSE here or is this just a OD&D general?
>>
>>96959181
What do you want to say about it?
I heard there was some minor debacle about it recently that turned out to be a nothing-burger.
>>
>>96959196
>What do you want to say about it?
I was wondering if anyone has played it and if it was worth picking up.
>>
>>96959200
No.
>>
>>96959174
Since we are both engaging in good faith over this, I'm going to reply by calling you a nigger and hope that you don't report me to the janitor for racism.

Now tell me about your favorite mega dungeon
>>96959181
Have you tried reading the first post of the thread to figure out what is and is not on topic? Because that will make things really easy for you
>>
>>96959200
It's not a bad intro to B/X if you grab Classic or AD&D if you grab Advanced. It basically tried to just streamline and modernize them, with a heavy focus on accessibility and ease of use.

Not my favorite (since it stripped out some things, and then added some meh stuff later), and it's pricey, but I can't say it's a bad way for people new to OSR to start, with the only real caveat that they'd be missing out on some of the... weirdness of the originals, and that weirdness does provide a certain flavor and je ne sais quoi that's often what people are looking for in "old school" games to begin with. The roughness of everything, the effort involved with the rules, it's very much its own experience (though not necessarily a good one for everyone).
>>
>>96959261
>>96959200
Oh WHOOPS i thought you meant OD&D.
Yeah Classic Rules OSE is perfrctly acceptable.
>>
>>96959261
I'd say simplistic over primitive.
>>
>>96959286
OD&D does good things but i dislike the lack of thieves and how wilderness survival+chainmail were literally requkred to make it a complete experience. I prefer BX or BECMI (BX for shorter campaigns, BECMI/RC for long term campaigns) becausr thats a complete package of a game.
>>
>>96959301
I didn't realize you thought he said OD&D. And yeah, "primitive" is an apt description for OD&D.
>>
>>96959253
Advanced OSE really isn't related to advanced adnd at all, why would you claim this?
>>
>>96959491
Advanced OSE is Classic OSE but with AD&D content converted to work with OSE.
>>
>>96959509
Some content like monsters and classes, but absolutely no systems, rules, nada.
It's just classic with some extra char build options, it's not in any way a transition to what ADND is actually like, nogames
>>
>>96959529
>Some content like monsters and classes,
Don't forget it also brings in a good chunk of new magic in that bargain.
And, it adds a lot of systems analagous to ones in AD&D (like Weapon Proficiencies), including some almost directly, like how Poison is used.
>>
>>96959200
It's fine.
Not "fine" like how an R&B singer says it, just fine.
>>
>>96959105
You're still here? Piss off, troll.
>>
Wow, cool general! Can we talk about Savage Worlds here? It's my favorite OSR game!
>>
>>96959856
Yes, world of darkness is also on the table!
>>
>>96959948
It's so nice to have a place to talk about all the OSR games like GURPS and Ninjas and Superspies!
>>
>>96959856
How do you play it in an Old School style?
I'm guessing heavy use of the Fantasy Companion, heavy emphasis on leaning towards tactical vs. narrative combat; making characters much easier to kill? Fixed class concepts?
I've seen SW used for just about everything, so I don't doubt its versatility. What OSR elements are the ones you think are the most important to your style?
>>
>>96960007
Just play it as-is. It's already OSR.
>>
>>96960050
Yes, but what OSR elements are the ones you think are the most important to your style?

I love Mariliths.
They're probably the most iconic and distinct of all the fiends.

Uh oh, I think someone's getting a little too Brosr for the thread!
