>have idea for niche setting>don't like D&D>start making my own character stats, rules, etc.>friend asks me why i don't just buy (whatever) rulebook and use thatWhy would anyone do that? Why would you buy a TTRPG rulebook instead of just making up a game? It only took me like a week.and no, I won't play grups or whatever
Why do you keep spamming bullshit meaningless threads?
>>97016695Its easier to use something already made so you don't have to make up mechanics and everyone else could have also read it.That way, everyone skips to the fun.
>>97016695your friend's politely suggesting to stop making him play your shitty half baked system and run something he wants to play
>>97016695>It only took me like a week.So much more expensive compared to buying one.
>>97016704you say this on every thread.
>>97016853Then stop making all your threads like that, faggot
>buying>games
What's with the massive influx of low effort shitposting threads?
>>97016695He wanted to tell that you create dogshit retarded ttrpgs that are immposible to enjoy. He was just being nice and diplomatic.
>>97016723>Its easier to use something already made so you don't have to make up mechanics and everyone else could have also read itObviously, pretty much all good ttrpgs are based on already existing systems and mechanics. Just like art and sciences, you're standing on shoulders of giants and so on
>>97016695Post game or shut the fuck up.>buyI don't need to buy *or* write rules myself. Your dichotomy is false.>>97016992This.
>>97017105Botposting modfags for fake engagement.
>>97016695Because the game you slapped together in a week is garbage. If it wasn't garbage then you'd be sufficiently talented that a week of your time would command a far higher price than a ttrpg book.
>>97016695From personal experience, your own personal RPG system will be a buggy garbage for at least a year or two. It takes a lot of time, that you spend on a niche game literally played by total 20 people at best. Game in a week probably won't even have a functional character creation and initiative, because exploration and combat rules are more important.I don't blame anyone for not doing this mess
>>97016695>Why would you buy a TTRPG rulebookto actually play gamesit's something a nogames wouldn't understand
>>97016695>Why would anyone do that? Why would you buy a TTRPG rulebook instead of just making up a game? It only took me like a week.Uncreative people find it difficult to invent an RPG system. Its not difficult to a creative person (I've made about 50 just to pass time), but real creativity is a rare trait in people. Most people just consume.
>>970166950% chance your slapdash "system" is even half functional. Why are you so impoverished?
>>97016695Tell us about your game, frogfag.
Mod thread.
>>97016695Even if you buy a rulebook they'll just tell you to come up with your own campaign anyway and then run that for free like a public service. Makes the guy at the top asking for money for made up words on a page seem a bit jewish, doesn't itNo surprise the people who do ask for money for their campaigns include so much subversive material
>>97019925Not him, but I’m designing a setting inspired by the 9th century Byzantine Empire and I’ve been hitting some real snags with the religion. I want to hit that Al-Qadim style “the gods themselves aren’t as important as the overarching message of their Enlightenment” and I’ve settled into a Gnostic “spirit vs material” conflict where the Almighty’s great work was selfishly hoarded by the Demiurge, but I’ve been puttering with it since I want to make it feel like a fantasy setting rather than a copy+paste of existing dogma.
>>97016695Not everyone is so desperately poor that $30 is a lot of money to them.
>>97016992Having physical copies is nice
>>97016695Because I want to play a good game. Yours isn't,
>>97019974>GnosticKys.

>>97018759>Game in a week probably won't even have a functional character creation and initiative, because exploration and combat rules are more important. You sound like a fucking fool. How can you have an above 70 IQ and not be able to make a functional version for both right off the bat?Initiative:>determines turn order in combat>is a scale going from x to y, your number determines your placeCharacter creation:>have n stats compartmentalizing a whole mind/body experience>determine them by rolling dice or allocating points>everything else is a conditional modifier>>97019925Onto that point, I'll readily admit that I've changed around the "magic" system many times, but only because my aesthetic vision for it has changed. My game has nine abilities split into three 'groupings' of soul/body/spirit and an untrainable stat sitting above each of them in 'sanity/size/speed,' and each ability has some number of skills that fall under it, pertaining to highly specific use (like metalworking, and weapon type proficiency). My ultimate goal is to make a system within the 65-75% autism range (on the scale of Go Fish to Campaign for North Africa)

>>97016695>Why would you buy a TTRPG rulebook instead of just making up a game?Chances are its because your game sucks ass and you could've shaved a week down to a day without much change in quality.
>>97029470Meanwhile D&D sucks ass and it takes them five years to make an objectively worse version every five years
>>97016695Fuck off notefag.
