Are there any agreed upon naming conventions for gnomes? I was trying to come up with a good gnome name and when I looked online all the suggestions just sounded like random syllables. If there's any consistent logic I cannot figure it out.
>>97038481You want a mix between dwarf names and fairy princess names>Flintina BronzesparkleThat sort of thing
>>97038481I have a better question:What are primary physical differences between gnomes and halflings?
>>97038481gnomes generally follow one two name schemes>an ordinary human first name + 2-3 syllable compound word relevant to their lifestyle>5+ words of jumbled latin, german, and dutchfor example>haley nutleaf, tinker oddcog, fritz gristwidget>philippus aureolus theophrastus bombastus von hohenheimtechnological words that sound quirky and quaint (e.g. widget, doodad, gizmo, sprocket) are very popular
>>97038557Gnomes have pointy ears, halflings are round. I think that's it
>>97038481If you don’t create an entire genealogy for your gnome’s name like Dragonlance then you’re just playing a pointy eared halfling.
>>97038557>physical differences between gnomes and halflingsGnomes are kiki and Halflings are bouba
Unironically, why would anyone want to roleplay a manlet, and put yourself in their shoes?

>>97038481I take Welsh names but pronounce them phonetically by English standards.
>>97038481I just give them fancy old-timey human given namesIdk why they would bother with surnames
>>97038557If we talk in terms of DnD then gnomes have pointy ears and are taller on average than halflings. Other differences that are not apparent at a glance is that gnomes have a life expectancy some two hundred years longer than halflings do, they are more intelligent on average, and they have a greater natural affinity for magic. Basically halflings are categorically an inferior species compared to gnomes.

>>97038481>Are there any agreed upon naming conventions for gnomes? No. There are setting and system specific naming conventions but they vary widely. Here's Pathfinders:Gnome names can get quite complex and polysyllabic. Gnomes rarely concern themselves with how easy their names are to pronounce, and they often go by shorter nicknames. Among gnomes, the shorter the name, the more feminine it's considered to be.>Examples:Abroshtor, Bastargre, Besh, Fijit, Halungalom, Krolmnite, Neji, Majet, Pai, Poshment, Queck, Trig, Zarzuket, ZatqualmieHeres 3.5:Gnomes love names, and most have half a dozen or so. As a gnome grows up, his mother gives him a name, his father gives him a name, his clan elder gives him a name, his aunts and uncles give him names, and he gains nicknames from just about anyone. Gnome names are typically variants on the names of ancestors or distant relatives, though some are purely new inventions. When dealing with humans and others who are rather “stuffy” about names, a gnome learns to act as if he has no more than three names: a personal name, a clan name, and a nickname. When deciding which of his several names to use among humans, a gnome generally chooses the one that’s the most fun to say. Gnome clan names are combinations of common Gnome words, and gnomes almost always translate them into Common when in human lands (or into Elven when in elven lands, and so on).>Male Names:Boddynock, Dimble, Fonkin, Gimble, Glim, Gerbo, Jebeddo, Namfoodle, Roondar, Seebo, Zook.>Female Names: Bimpnottin, Caramip, Duvamil, Ellywick, Ellyjobell, Loopmottin, Mardnab, Roywyn, Shamil, Waywocket.>Clan Names: Beren, Daergel, Folkor, Garrick, Nackle, Murnig, Ningel, Raulnor, Scheppen, Turen.>Nicknames: Aleslosh, Ashhearth, Badger, Cloak, Doublelock, Filchbatter, Fnipper, Oneshoe, Sparklegem, Stumbleduck.Generally they tend toward strange, whimsical, and complex names.

>>97047649Making the nickname thing a part of gnome lore is pretty clever because if you pick a name that doesn't fit in with other gnome names you can just say "Oh it's just one of his many nicknames"
>>97038481I think as gnomes, usually surnames would have some sort of metallic or mineral style name for the prefix, as gnomes are often associated with rocks. The suffix of their surnames should be related to the job they are conducting as they are productive little guys.An example would be something like Samuel Goldberg.

>>97038560This is for Warcraft Gnomes. D&D Gnomes are basically fey-lite, having more to do with nature than machines, living in a big mushroom and that's sort of crap.
>>97050669Some of these are pretty good actually. I had no idea Lazer was a Yiddish name. That would be an awesome name for a gnome.
>>97050950Rock Gnomes in d&d are still close to warcraft gnomes in that they're industrious inventors

>>97051047Don't forget the broad yiddish/new york accent and observing increasingly specific religious practices
Yes, look up the fake names homosexuals use, like Jasmine or Jade. Or FYRE from the recent VtM vidya flop. Bonus points for deliberately writing it wrong.
>>97051047>I had no idea Lazer was a Yiddish nameIt's literally in the Bible, and not even in the OT. But usually given in Latinized version: Lazarus.

>>97038557The asshole of a full grown gnome male is less pliant and soft as the halfling, but has a slightly grippy quality to it owing to much stronger muscles in the area that reflexively tighten and release in a sort of ass flutter as you rock into him.

>>97091703This is 4chan. Everything is about herb mentality and insecurity. Every other statement uttered is about strengthening compliance and conformity to an imagined prevailing opinion in a kneejerk attempt to "belong". Even minor disagreements with the default 4chan opinion on <topic> has people falling all over themselves to claim you somehow don't belong which is really just a way of psychologically assuring themselves that they do. Once its pointed out, you see it everywhere.
