Are dwarves actually popular anywhere? I have never seen a fucking dwarf miniature in my life, but every storefront has a morbillion dwarf models.
>>97042979I'm still baffled that the tin mines were closed globally to "protect the enviroment" when we switched from lead to tin on solderz to "protect the enviroment". Might as well cancel all electronics and anything that needs soldering to "protect the enviroment". Fucking retards.btw, lunchables are lawfully allowed to content more lead than a fucking digital watch.
>>97052299*mining chant stops*
>>97052313Maufacturers didn't move away from tin because it wasn't environmentally friendly, they moved away from tin because its price skyrocketed and still fluctuates too much for most of them to stomah.
>>97052335Tin became expensive because all the countries that traditionally mined tin closed their mines because "they were bad for the enviroment" and now there is a singular fucking tin mine supplying the entire planet. Manufacturers have to use tin to make soldering cable because the entire fucking planet decided to make it illegal to use lead to make soldering cable (but not food!). Everything made of metal or that features electronics needs tons of solders.By making lead illegal to use on solders (but not on food for some fucking reason), they forced ALL electronics manufacturing and every single machine shop to switch to tin. But because now there is only one singular supplier, tin costs a lot. Extremely high demand, extremely low production. This whole situation would immediately stabilize if they led manufacturers use lead on non-food products again. But they closed the tin mines because they are bad for the enviroment
Are there any skirmish wargames where you play exactly one or maybe 2 or 3 minis? Basically something like Inquisitor without the autistically obtuse rules.

>>97052414Why would you restrict yourself to so few models if not to have more detailed rules? You could play OPR with two dudes each; it's just suck balls.Rogue Stars or Sellswords and Spellslingers are designed for very small squads, but even those are 3-6 or so.
>>97052414Bushido and Relicblade are both in the sub 5 model range
>>97052644Have looked into that too. Is it possible to just play without the crew like >>97052521 suggested?>>97052651I am looking for something very quick and easy to pick as a gateway for some of my normie friends. I can't ask them to sit down with a 400 page rulebook.
>>97052679The fewer models you have, the more rules there tend to be tho. Normies really can't comprehend an actual rulebook, so it's a fools errand anyway. Even a substantial boardgame booklet is too much My family members thought fucking Gaslands was too complicated.
>>97052703It's at least gotta be something I could reasonably teach them over the course of an evening.
>>97052065Played a demo game of it, it was fun but our group not had a chance to go back to it. I should prolly pick up the core box for the cardboard terrain. Can't remember the specifics of the gameplay, outside of the skill-system being neat and the civillian/imposter+objective system getting me invested.
Talking about number of minis, what is each one prefered way? And what game is your prefered?I like to have a big hero unit, some monsters/heroes and normie troops, about 25-30minis or so per side. Of gods and mortals is the one than gets it the best at the moment, but looking of alternatives.
>>97052679Crew characters are basically stripped down characters that don't level up. Their main purpose is to be your "reach" for objectives because your main two dudes can't be in many places at once. If you want simplicity, you could technically go the opposite way and play a crew without the captain and first mate.A full captain, first mate and crew is "only" like six or so miniatures. So, it's still a pretty small skirmish.
>>97052679Then you want few rules rather than few models. Few of both leaves you without much game at all.Xenotactics hhas pretty simple rules and fairly small squads because it's heavily reaction based like Infinity.Open Combat has Blood Bowl inspired combat and a very simple dude builder which more or less survives having a small number of dudes.
>>97052679>I am looking for something very quick and easy to pick as a gateway for some of my normie friends.Space or Sword Weirdos, both are stupid easy to understand and playable with few minis.
>>97052735I've been playing 6 to 10 minis skirmish games, but planning to try some of these with the scale you mentioned: >Xenos Rampant >OPR>Rogue Hammer >Renegade ScoutJust gotta finish the armies and terrain for it.

>>97052768>>Rogue Hammer >>Renegade ScoutNever heard of those two, nice.
>>97052735I like about 50-60 dudes per side with 1-3 vehicles (more is fine as well, provided you have movement trays and are charitable about positioning said trays in cover etc.) and I like Xenos rampant. Hopefully I'll get to play dragon rampant soon, but I'll probably have smaller warbands, as I reckon it'll play slower than Xenos rampant.
>>97052065That name sounds familiar, but yeah, no clue about it. That's definitely during the KS boom, where there was an onslaught of random games made to sell a specific mini line.
>>97052810Xenos Rampant seems to be pretty popular at the moment.

>>97053355Yup, I prefer the all-in-one book, 2-page faq simplicity of xr. It's not a perfect game - a lot of the shooting is very samey as most units only hit on a 5+, with upgrades for heavy weapons, armor-piercing and cover-ignoring for some units. Same for melee.

anyone know any good skirmish scale or so fantasy wargames with heavy narrative elements? leaning almost toward the pseudo-rpg stuff of Renegade Scout/Rogue Trader, 5 parsecs. >>97052414Halo Flashpoint.
Warzone Eternal tourney in Czechia on facebook group. Glad to see the game may last a bit and not sink right away, gives me time to pick and choose some of their sets I think. The euros were always big into wz. Interesting that game seems to be a mix of units and loose squad coherency or no squads at all, not sure. But we all know if the game grows too big they'll powercreep the next edition to minimum max sized squads and shit.
>>97053809Its a no squad game. At most, your games are going to be the size of a single squad, since they are focusing more on the special ops feel of the setting. The guy behind the new edition is pretty good at balance. Dark Age had a few outliers, but for the most part, the models were balanced/ He also only played 1st edition of the game, so has no nostalgia over the bigger games of later WZ. That doesn't mean we won't be seeing the bigger things, like the walkers or bio-giant.
>>97052414>Are there any skirmish wargames where you play exactly onethats called a crunchy rpg.however, on the topic of >or maybe 2 or 3 minis?I always thought it would be kino to have a game where each player controls a "lance" a medieval pseudo squad containing a heavily armed man at arms and his immediate retinue, onften consisting of 1 medium armored support melee troop like a sergeant or squire, 1 ranged troop like an archer or crossbowman, and roughly 2 non combat support staff (holding on to lances and camp equipment and stuff and retrieving wounded men).So you control circa 3 combatants, and 2 ish non combatants.another actual game is rangers of shadowdeep, where you CAN spend all your points for like a MC and like 3 supped up companions, but in my experience, the action economy tends to favor maybe 1-2 other more elite companions and 2-3 other more chaff companions for a total group of 5-6.
>>97053425Think I might grab a PDF of XR in that case and see if I can get my OPR opponent into playing a game or two. Thanks, Anon. 3.5 really has been such a major letdown.

>>97060927If you're going for a rpg campaign, here's some advices that all boil down to "be a lazy fuck":-Don't pre-plan paths or solutions: your players will make choices that will surprise you and ruin everything.-Recycle your stuff, don't throw it away: if you had a cool idea but they blew the occasion don't tell them and recycle it somewhere else next time.-The story emerges from your players' choices, not background: no one cares for your story but everybody will be in awe when something logical triggers for an action they did one or three games ago.-One egg only per basket: don't pile up all your cool interactions to a single NPC so when they kill or antagonize your special guy the game don't stale and you don't grow resentful.-Be partial, not punitive: everytime they take an important action, note it on paper and draw a line to at least two separate consequences. So killing a NPC means of course someone will be pissed but also someone somewhere should be pleased.-Keep track of events: Some consequences should be noted as a circle divided in 2 to 6 equal parts and act as trigger only when entirely filled. So killing a NPC from Clan Bullshit will cross one piece of a circle and not much else. Once the whole circle is crossed it's payback time.tl;dr: Don't plan three games ahead and let their choices drive the story naturally. Don't punish them and don't hold your punches.

Rules for ranged weapons can be easily converted to 40k guns if you convert bows to lasguns, bolters to crossbows etc. Love the more gamey approach via hexes yet it still looks just crunchy enough to differentiate it from elaborate chess. It's even got dungeon crawls and I love those.
Anyone know where I can get some cool robots?

The alien RPG miniatures set:rapture protocol says they're 28mm but the ones I saw at the store looked really small. Like 25mm. Anyone got them already or can confirm size? I really want some Weyland yutani commandos but the expensive black site studio ones are supposedly in 32mm so too big. These are looking too small. Maybe it's only the lack of oversized shoulder pads...
There is a regional Mordheim tournament very near to me in January, with a very large group of players. Is it worth learning the game just to have some narrative fun, or will I be destroyed by the usual GW WAACfag crowd?
>>97063885There are advanced rules in The Fantasy Trip, but that's the full-blown RPG treatment of it.
>>97064586Did see these in person recently. The power loader is WAY too small/slender; the Xenomorphs are short and stocky compared to the Gale Force Nine ones. Other models are passable next to the GF9 Aliens boardgame minis. Those are more true-28 than heroics or scale-crept 30mm stuff. The Wey-Yutes are big chunky fuckers. Should work okay with Reaper, GF9, et. al.
>>97064701You don't really run into that with Mordheim. It's a dead game kept going by hobbyists, for the love of the game. Go and have fun.
>>97063585The sources are right there tho?
>>97064780>>The Wey-Yutes are big chunky fuckersi guess you're right if it's realistic 28mm I'm thinking I might take a petwer mini with me to the store to hold it up next to them, but it is heroic chonk 28mm I love. 60 bucks for the whole box and most of them are generic corpos isnt real nice either.
>>97064294Yeah not their best sculpts. I thing WGA should really slow down their release schedule so that they can make better sculpts.
>>97065375They suffer from a poor paintjob as well. I had high hopes for the 10mm line of WGA. The orcs are solidly good, but the dwarves have serious sculpting problems and the skeletons should have been helmetless. The dwarf issue should have been caught before production, and the skeletons' helmets are a wierd design choice that makes the models look worse than they are. I worry that they are only listening to a small echo chamber on their private Facebook page.
>>97065622>private Facebook page.is there such thing?
>>97065622Is you don't participate in the echo chamber and offer valid constructive criticism Tony Reidy will personally berate you on there. I genuinely think he spends hours a day sitting on FB waiting to crash out
>>97065622Solid takes. You're late to the party though, there's already previews of their 10mm English and French Azincourt.
You did order that limited edition figure, right? Who knows when it's available the next time.
>>97071569No, but I recently ordered the Legendary Bulbus Peppernose and waiting for it to arrive. I wanna see how these guys' products look like before I get more from them.
>>97071569Did last year and previous ones, don't think anyone's offering anything I really want this year. Hard to fomo when only discounts are just extra stock no one wants even at 90% discount with shipping costing more than items themselves, or I am paying 100+ USD for two small resin models.
Anyone a subscriber to wargames illustrated? I'm considering subscribing for the freebie frames after getting my three stahltruppen but I'm wondering if the vast majority end up being historicals and <28mm in size. I.e. no plebby sci fi, which is my favorite genre. I'm not finding a freebie frames master list from wargames illustrated itself but the listed frames so far are all revolutionary era and hail cesar frames and such so I'm wondering if I might be better off picking and choosing single issues in the long term.
>>97072044idk man but that terrain makes me drool

>>97072433right, but that setup still looks great
>>97072044Wargames Illustrated is basically Warlord Illustrated at this point, every sprue is Warlord too, usually 10mm, it was Konflict 47 the other month.BUT I'm lead to believe subscriptions DON'T always get a sprue each month. Some months, only retail copies get a sprue, which they admit is part of WI's deal with Menzies Distribution or whoever to stay on the shelves in UK supermarkets and such. They even had a competition the other month where you simply had to take a picture of WI in stock at a UK shop.So yeah.t. featured in Wargames Illustrated this summer.
>>97072836>10mmPardon me, Warlord Epic Battles 12.5mm scale
>>97072836Weird. Their website says free sprues only go in six of the subscription issues per year. Maybe the shenanigans is why I can't find a master list of free sprues. I wouldn't mind world war 2 28mm "free" sprues, but don't want to pay their steep price ($160) for a bunch of random 12.5mm dudes. I do find it funny they openly screw over euros for free sprues though lol. Also their October issue isn't available online, so I guess their little foray into popular sci fi proves a point of some sort.
I bought more. £1 you can't go wrong
>>97052065I bought and played the core box years ago. The sculpts are good quality board game plastics.(similar quality to Mantics spacey dungeon crawler.) Mechanics were fairly typical, with a generic damage timer (enviro hazards, etc) iirc. Got bored after about four missions, perhaps? Good for what it is, a more sophisticated Heroquest. I ended up playing Five Parsecs and much preferred that. Core space has had a lot of content released for it by now.

>>97079883The core rules are fine. The problem was that a lot of OPR fans wanted more "flavour" to the faction rules and they got it. A lot of those new rules were at first really gimmicky, required a lot of bookkeeping and counters - something that went against the spirit of the ruleset. It was also clear that not much thought went into those rules. So a flurry of updates followed. Some new rules, or more precisely, variations of existing rules were good in theory. However, in practice they were unnecessarily cluttered. In my opinion, variations of extra ap on rolls of 6 to hit do not need extra rules. Rather they should be expressed something like this "rending(2)", where the number in brackets is the ap modifier on the roll of a 6.

Are there any low fantasy elves out there besides north stars oath mark stuff? I love the design choices they made for dwarves orcs and skellies but their elves are a little too 70's artwork for me. Is there anyone who just makes like bedazzled normans or Anglo-Saxons to represent elves? Even red box games stuff is too high fantasy and I don't think Colin Patten has ever made any.
>>97084808My game system experience is very limited, but I've been enjoying Space Weirdos for it's simplicity and how easy it is to just add homebrew stuff. We played Xeno for the first time, it was a bit more tactical because of the reactions and end of activation turnover rolls. It was also harder to understand at times, we were unsure how exactly the opposed rolls and canceling out thing works. There was one case when both attack roll and shooting back reaction roll were the same value and the rules said then both are successful but didn't specify what does that mean in this case.We are planning to play it more, and maybe start a 3 player campaign with Weirdos too.
>>97086395You might like lucid-eye miniatures then
>>97086687>There was one case when both attack roll and shooting back reaction roll were the same value and the rules said then both are successful but didn't specify what does that mean in this case. What's unclear about that? Both hit, so roll to damage both.
>>97087222That. There were examples for everything, but not for that scenario so we weren't sure if that's also a thing and because just like normal rolls where result<=target is a success this also means that the reaction is a success and so cancels the shot. But yes, we also considered them to just hitting each other. In hindsight rereading it, it's much easier now.

>>97088759Moonstone operates on a system where the attacker and defender each play 'move' cards from their hand, and there's a little look-up to tell you the outcome based on the pairing - a Block will prevent most damage except from a Reckless Swing... But a Reckless Swing risks taking massive damage if the defender played Counter-Attack instead of a defensive card, etc.The look-up tells you how much damage the defender and the attacker take, and I think the cards come from a common deck, so there's some element of card counting as well as bluffing/brinkmanship.That or Malifaux 2e, which has a bunch of conditional triggers for extra effects depending on which suit of card you flipped. The German pirate one (Freebooter?) might also have something cool, it's been a while.Might be helpful to get an idea of what you consider a 'meaningful choice' in this context.
Hey so when seb games and black site studios and such say an item is on backorder but the process seems to allow you to place the mini in your basket and check out, what happens if you fully proceed to process the payment? Will they charge you and an item be eventually mailed out if they can get it? Does it mean they're trying to get it but it's uncertain? Will it not allow you to process the payment in the end? (I haven't tried that far.) I'm a bit confused, and assumed "on backorder" means you can't order it at all until they post it's back in stock.
>>97088759Luv me EDEN
>>97089350I'll check it out as gamifying fencing is the kind of stuff I'm looking for and I assume that's what the game is about. The same for Bushido Risen Sun.The other ones I also found after some quick googling and are actually fantastic are Godslayer, Freeblades, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Age of Sigmar Warcry, Frostgrave and Warcrow.Dunno which ones are particularly deep, though.>Might be helpful to get an idea of what you consider a 'meaningful choice' in this context.I always use JRPGs as an example as everyone has played Pokemon or any other DQ clone: those games are relatively complex as you got a los of equipment, skills, different enemies to fight etc. But they are never deep as the optimal choice at any time is almost always obvious/ almost all fights are so easy doesn't matter what you choose you'll win/ you can only win with bigger numbers, so after grinding/ they have completely useless mechanics like status ailments as they don't work on bosses, and you can heal them too easily etc. They have many choices, but they are not meaningful, while a good fighting game may have many less choices of actions you can do at any given time, but no matter what you end doing almost all will have important consequences in the match (even doing nothing/ turtling matters), thus they are meaningful.
>>97090019Depends on the company, but most I know will either wait until they get X backorders before casting or printing a batch of that item. Most small companies will at least contact you to say it'll be a while. I'd just shoot them a message and ask.
>>97089466Yes, all cards for both magic and fighting come from same common deck. Moonstone is very much a bluffing game and some characters even get bonuses for bluffing or cheating successfully. It's only a lie if you get called out on it afterall.

>>97100592Now you're getting it. You see, this Ice cream box is made from perfect carboard stock for crafting. I didn't buy it because I'm a fat hippo of a man.
The art guys having quilted armor when the actual miniatures have only cloth tunics is bothering me. The sarjents of this same product line have modeled quilted armor, so it's not like it is impossible for them to do at this scale or anything.
>>97101749I've read people buy very thin mdf board to use. But I haven't seen such a thing in my local area and i'm scared that ordering it will result on a completely smashed parcel.
>>97102209Annoying yeah, but I think some frostgrave kits have quilted armour if that's what you're looking for.
>>97102209>>97102432Fireforge Northmen too
>>97102491Ooh yeah they're way nicer than what I was thinking of.
>>97102209Perry bros have mixed quilted and other clothing in their War of the Roses infantry and I think the mercenaries kit as well.
Is it too early for Christmas thread?
Great news, nerds. I finally found a place that was selling the doppelganger otherworld miniatures miniature after figuring it was lost forever.Fenris games picked up a good bit of the monsters, so that's them, Crooked-dice(adventurers), and Badger games (p'orcs, goblins, and gnolls).I hope you all have a great ChristmasPicrel, it's the freak soon to be in my collection
>>97102969What's this from, anon? That walker design is awesome.
>>97103376I believe that is the Hurricane Walker from Warzone Resurrection.
>>97103057I thought they were hyper-realistic Quar for a second there.
