I heard one time that one of the functions of chapter serfs on space marine voidships is to pilot small craft that dogfight/bomb other voidcraft during void battles. Can anyone confirm if that's true? Cuz I can't see anything mentioning it on lexicanum

Nothing specific comes to mind, but it tracks. Depending on the chapter, Chapter Serfs function more or less similarly to the Imperial Navy, just smaller in scale. Void warfare support roles, including piloting secondary fleet assets in combat (read: not thunderhawks and large craft) seem right up their alley.

It's safe to assume that 99.9% of the crew aboard a Space Marine ship aside from the senior officers will inevitably be chapter serfs, if only because a single cruiser-class ship would have at least 50x as many crewmen as there are marines within a chapter.

With Resin models I should just use superglue to bind parts after sub assembly painting right?
>>

That's the only thing that works.
>>
>>97044370
Yes superglue is best for resin models in general, 2part epoxy is stronger but unless you're building something like a titan it's unnecessary
just remember to scrape the contact points as clean as you can before gluing sub-assemblies
>>

>>97044374
>just remember to scrape the contact points as clean as you can before gluing sub-assemblies
Why? Does primer get in the way of superglue bonding?
>>

it'll stick to the primer instead of the model itself since that's what it's in contact with, so it could peel away down the line potentially

In fact the arms and heads off them are all compatible
>>
>>97044458
Oh nice maybe ill pick some of those up, if they're good for airbrushing.
>>97044466
Ill save you some trial and error from my part, its pretty forgiving but I did have some bad results in tests. Definitely put a layer of PVA glue down first and let it harden to a clear shell. I use a sculpting tool or popsicle stick rather than a brush to apply it, it comes out less bumpy. Thin it down in a small cup to a paintable consistency with water. Some people say you can speed up the curing time in an oven or use a hair dryer, I had disastrous results. The best is to just let it sit a day or 2. If the cracks are too thin after 1 day, try 2 days. So do large batches, you can just scrape it away if one turns out bad.

Navigators in Dune are just people with some minor mutations from heavy, sustained spice use and living in microgravity; mainly elongated bodies, eyes that are completely deep blue, and webbed hands/feet. I've read every Frank Herbert Dune novel and unfortunately some of Brian Herbert's sequels. In Frank's books navigators are almost entirely described that sparsely - they're only seen twice throughout all six books, and the only time the word "fish" is used anywhere around them at all is when Edric is described as "a fish out of water" because he's in a portable spice tank and not in a Guild ship.

>I mean, it is the simplest the rules have been in a very long time.
It's really not. GW believe simplicity means having everything neatly laid out in a convenient card they can sell to you. But that just creats a rules system where the core rules are anemic and 80% of interactions are handled by exceptions instead of the other way around. The complete opposite of that design principles is 3rd edition (before the codexes, using the lists in the rulebook). Core rules handle 80% of interactions and even the armylists and wargear are very standardized (a meltagun is a meltagun with the exact same rules for every single army, for example) and yet it retains way more interesting interactions and mechanics than 10th does.

Also, what a bunch of horseshit. While Warp and dangerous beings inhabiting it was a thing in original Rogue Trader, Chaos wasn't. Only with Realm of Chaos books, Chaos was introduced into 40k, and the statements about Chaos Gods being the only things existing across different James properties, completely ignores Orcs and Gork-Mork. Orks are more "core of Warhammer" than Chaos ever was or will be.

The first recorded appearance of necrons is in 897.M41, the first tyrannic war is in 745.M41, the first official recognition of genecultists is in 680.M41, tau are also rediscovered in their technological state only in M41, you can't have red corsairs before 912.M41, kriegers aren't an actual thing until after 949.M40, and so on, the talons of the emperor don't have real engagements until guilliman tells them to move in the era indomitus.
You can make excuses as to why things appear previously, one way or another, unrecognised, unremembered, or as stuff that merely looked like them, or errors in warp travel, but then so you can with primaris as well, if you wanted, they have been in stasis for quite a while and it's possible that cawl had limited test runs in places, a fun fan theory is that the mentors chapter is one such way to train primaris troops out of mere simulations.

But people really underestimate how the setting is specifically the 41st millennium, way more than it is the 10k years between 30k and 40k.
Funnily enough, fantasy has almost a longer span of its timeline compared to 40k where it can reasonably set up stuff for most or all of its factions in their recognisable state.

Dark Eldar didn't exist till late 35 Millenium when Vect taken control over Commoragh and dethroned the Noble Houses and Solar Cults.
Tyranids didn't exist unless you are going for "isolated event of random monsters that later turned out to be Tyranids" which...Makes things very limited. Necrons, same as Tyranids but you can do more with them. For example some Mechanicus priests finding Necron ruins with C'tan shard imprisoned within and starting to worship it. Bolter Bitches didn't exist till 36 Millenium and I don't see anyone caring about Whores of Emperor stuff that predated them. Tau already were spacefaring in 36 Millenium and started expanding in 37 and 38, so you can also make isolated stories with them, and again, you can still do more than with Tyranids, for example by having squad of Marines allying with warriors of this unknown, minor Xenos to defeat whatever they fighting at the moment and only later they were reidentified to have been Fire Warriors who got teleported by a wormhole or whatever.

Other factions, Orks/Chaos/Eldar/Most of Imperium, would have comfortably existed across the 10k years and you could make any story with them.
>>
>>97045416
People have been remixing old stories forever, the myth of Romulus and Remus being feed by a she wolf comes from an older Persian myth of a boy being feed by a woman named 'bitch' (word for female dog and wolf).
Good artists are inspired by others works, great artists steal. Taking ideas and twisting them for your self is how we get new ideas. And new stuff is still made like look at Dead Space and the concept of Necromorphs thats new for sci-fi horror, dead bodies mutated into weird alien shapes to kill people by an aura be an alien monolith we use to get free energy. And like thats what less than 20 years old?

>>

>Dark Eldar didn't exist till late 35 Millenium when Vect taken control over Commoragh and dethroned the Noble Houses and Solar Cults.

So what you're saying is that the Commoragh Eldar were just regular Eldar who never left Commoragh before Vect took control? How exactly did Vect taking control reveal their existence to Slaanesh and cause their souls to start being fed on?
>>
>>97045477
>The first recorded appearance of necrons is in 897.M41
And yet we have Trazyn and Orikan doing shit for thousands of years before the Heresy. I'm not talking about large scale conflicts, but they are present. Nevermind that not every single campaign needs to be a world ending plot moving event. That's how GW put themselves in the situation that made them stop making global campaigns when both Storm of Chaos and Eye of Terror didn't go as planned.
>But people really underestimate how the setting is specifically the 41st millennium, way more than it is the 10k years between 30k and 40k.
Even if you wanna be like that, which is fair, mind you, the writers used to have almost 2k years (going back to m40 for some things wasn't unheard of even if most events were in m41) worth of room for stuff is still way more than 12.

what the hell are you talking about, if anything they had to scale way the fuck down through the Crusades because humanity weren't easy pickings anymore. We know that the Dark Eldar would raid so regularly that humans would time it yearly to hide in fear, Vulcan's general elf-hatred comes from his planet getting regularly fucked by deldar raids until he personally smashed their shit in. Vect's restructuring was to deal with humanity actually getting their shit together and putting together some decent naval protection, which just made raiding harder but didn't stop it.

The ice cream ships were extremely effective. The US soldiers are happy and the Japanese are freaked out the enemy can afford to do this.
One German commander freaked out when he saw one of his American POW had a birthday cake made by his mom. The US can afford to ship a cake from America to Europe just for a private.
Another German commander realised the war is lost when one of his scouts reported that the Americans dont even bother turning off their trucks when its not in use.

You dont fuck around with morale, a lot of money and research is done to make food and rations as good as possible, even today. If your country can afford to do this, its a great time to be a soldier.
Grimdark is when countries cant even afford to make their soldiers feel somewhat comfy, which is 99.9% of human history before WW2

>‘The crypto lock is not responding, sire,’ Tsu Tsek said to the phaeron. He stepped back from the interface point. ‘The coding is ancient, and beyond me.’ He bowed his head apologetically.

>Lhaskek looked down upon his chronomancer. ‘Gulmarlok is dead. Is this the reason why?’

>Tsu Tsek nodded, still not looking up into his lord’s face, which managed to convey disappointment although it was rigid and the eyes glowed an unchanging, baleful green. ‘He was the expert. I am a mere dabbler in comparison to his skill, alas.’

>‘I do not blame you.’ Lhaskek’s neck piston juddered again, making his head tick to one side. He set his staff’s base down on the machine with a hard, decisive click. ‘We are doomed then. Our dynasty is finished.’

>Cawl judged the time was right to step in. Despondency opened doors.

>‘If I might attempt to break your machine’s defences myself?’

>Tsu Tsek made a noise that could have been the equivalent of dismissiveness. ‘You are not necron. How could you understand the complexities of our technology? We are the oldest race in this galaxy. You are a barely evolved primitive. How could you possibly comprehend the majesty of our science?’

>‘That is what I keep telling him,’ said AsanethAyu.

>Cawl would have begged to differ on both fronts. The aeldari would have something to say about the first point, and he was confident enough in his own ancestors’ mastery to believe they had at least come close to the necrons’ abilities, but it would have been tactless to say so. Tactlessness shut doors.

>‘Then what harm could there possibly be in letting me try?’

Maybe? I think it's just a byproduct of the setting being made in the 80s, like Aliens or Star Wars. They all have the same "analog" feel because they were made back then. But it was a good decision to keep that aesthetic.

It's because touchsceens are now common place and holograms are also becoming more and more of a reality. So it makes regular scifi stuff feel more mundane.

Also it does make sense in the way that it adds the archaic feel of 40k where they are using old shit from centuries or thousands years ago.
But at the same time it also kind of doesn't make sense in a paradoxical way.

Since most of Imperium's stuff is from the DAoT, which was humanity's golden age where their technological advancement had climbed to the point where it's basically incomprehensible to us, it's basically magic. And they could do practically anything.
Also what we know of the DAoT, pretty much all of the descriptions we have paints the golden age that it is more or less just generic, sleek, minimalist, cool LEDs, in terms of aesthetic.
So it'd make sense that lot of DAoT stuff is just holograms and touchsceens.
>>
>>97046256
>It's because touchsceens are now common place and holograms are also becoming more and more of a reality. So it makes regular scifi stuff feel more mundane.
I hated touchscreens and holograms in the early 2000s too when those were far from the norm irl. I just prefer the look of analog tech.
>>
>>97046256
it is sometimes but its rare, more advanced tech is usually more complex so it usually fails quicker whereas alot more of the surviving shit would probably be heavier last-gen machines that are build to last
and its usually a fucked up rough hologram flickering with static and a roughly bitcrushed voice coming through the output

Just finished the new Cawl book.
It wasn't that good compared to the others. Vashtorr appeared only sparingly in it, but he stole the show whenever he did.

Vashtorr is a mega-fan of Cawl. He wants him. He wants him badly. He wants to claim him as his servant and minion since humanity has rarely produced a genius like him before.

The Old Ones and their servants collapsed the star, creating the blackhole and trapping the World Engine there forever alongside the Necron fleet and a Pre-Fall/War in Heaven Aeldari fleet. Cawl and his friends go to the world and see Necrons and WiH Aeldari frozen in time. Cawn and co even examine a dead WiH Aeldari.

People don't like Vashtorr because he's an unnecessary and shit addition to 40k that was never needed.
And him being added hasn't made 40k more interesting or cool, it has just made it lamer and gayer by introducing more named character wank, and worse yet, more gay and lame chaos wank that nobody asked for or even cares about.

Only people who like or even care about Vashtorr are sub 60 IQ people who unironically think that BL books are the bee's knees and "deep", when in reality they are quite literally just glorified advertizements for specific plastic toysoldiers.

We got more lore about Vashtorr.
-He isn't a god of mortals. He is a god of machines. All machines answer him, save a few blessed ones that can resist him for a time. All machines have souls and yearn to bow before him.

-Vashtorr is eternal. Vashtorr has always existed. When the first mortal created tools, Vashtorr was there watching.
-The Vashtorr model we see on the TT isn't actually Vashtorr. It's just a fragment of him. The least part of his power. Vashtorr IS the Forge of Souls.
-All Soul Grinders are bound to Vashtorr to be loyal to him over patron gods.
>>
>>97046490
Like what this guy >>97046481 said, I just want stuff that represents the specific flavor of chaos that I like, which is tech heresy and daemonic machinery. It makes ultimately little difference to me whether the model is a named character or a generic "Soul Forge Tyrant" so long as it's there.

There isn't anything to prove wrong. Of course women are part of the guard. I'm not even disputing that. My point is in a guard codex 20 years ago you maybe had a photo of rocket girl last chancer and that was IT. Now in a guard codex 50% of soldiers are womyn, black womyn are everywhere and because marines are a sasuage fest we have to deal with character officers being womyn too (99% of current year BL guard novels). It's lame, forced and unnatural, epsecially for the fucking WW2 in space army.

Yeah. Remember the space marine escort ships we still see to this day? Those are forgeworld designs, the GW versions looked like this. Half the epic ranges were FW resin, a lot of them variant designs they eventually remade in 28mm. FW before 2012 did tons of stuff for all the GW games. Then GW canned every single specialist game and FW started with the Heresy. Then Bligh died, 40k switched to 8th and quality took a nosedive and now FW doesn't exist.

Fuck Army Painter.
Turbo Dork makes some great looking color-shift metallics, but if they start to separate, they never fucking come back together. So use them quick.
Did I mention, fuck Army Painter?
Because FUCK Army Painter.
Never liked ProAcryl. Maybe it's just because I use a wet palette but it would get way too watery way too fast to be worth much.
Sucks that Citadel paints don't have dropper tops but you can get third party dropper toppers for them. Still, pulling them out to the palette isn't that hard and I've always had good luck with GW coming back together even after it's gotten old and separated from its medium.
Fuck army painter.

Admech is getting to be a dated range after the ten years of modern sculpts that came after it. Might sell my admech sprues and stick with CSM until another release wave I like comes out.

Shes also very sweet and nice, I met her at a con a while ago and she was lovely. I'm glad shes doing well for herself.
Also I also got to see that model in person at whw a few years back and it is even more absurd in person.

Her real skill are her color choices, she doesn't do anything super mindblowing from a technical standpoint

Nothing that came after 7th edition and the start of Primaris is ever going to be considered "dated". At least not for many, many years. That's just the modern standard everything is being brought up to. And they're getting pretty close now once they finish the last few old ranges next edition. Then they can just focus on expansion of smaller ranges.
