Rather new (and probably stupid) question here: I'm running a 2e campaign and my players just got to level 2, which I'm happy about because this is the first time I've run a campaign where my players get to level up, but I'm curious: if my players tend to just mash attack despite the -10 MAP for the third action, does that mean I'm doing a poor job of coming up with interesting encounters, or is the issue on my players for thinking encounters automatically mean fight and nothing else? Or is this an issue with early game 2e that gets better later? My players seem to be having a good time but it just feels awkward when I have to find new ways to say "you missed again".
>>
>>97104682
It is not you, and it's a pretty common phenomenon for new playgroups. It's a combination of the non-standard way that 2E handles multiple attack penalties and the fact that there's a huge pile of feats or features that the players can build towards that grant actions and they can't possibly know very many of them without at least some time spent in the system. One of the big things to keep in mind when building a 2E character, absent from other D&D-type games, is "how do I fill out a three-action turn?" That's a muscle that they haven't really flexed yet, even if they're experienced with other TTRPGs.

The most common "third action" after Strike / Strike is some kind of defensive one. Sword and board characters have the Raise a Shield action built into every shield--no feat investment required. This allows them to spend their third action each round to grant themselves a +2 circumstance bonus to AC. There are equivalents with varying degrees of ease of access and effectiveness for most playstyles: dual-wielding characters have Twin Parry, accessible through the Dual-Weapon Warrior archetype. Free-hand characters have Dueling Parry from Duelist.

An alternative to third actions are two-action attacks. Many attacks eat up two actions, but are still a single attack. A popular one is Slam Down, from the Mauler archetype (you'll notice I'm giving you a lot of archetype options; this is because I don't know your party comp). A character with Slam Down can spend their turn using Strike followed by Slam Down in order to make two Strikes and a Trip attempt, but only incur the multiple attack penalty once.

There's a million different abilities like that built into the system to allow players to spend their turns constructively without maxing out their MAP. Rather than worrying too much about it, I might be inclined to just wait a few levels and offer them a blanket opportunity to rebuild their characters with what they've learned. It's a system mastery thing.
>>
>>97104682
You should just straight up tell them what they can do, another anon presented some options, but it's up to you to point them out if the players are overwhelmed.
If they spend an Action to Demoralise, and the -1 causes a hit or a crit, do say that out loud, so they can catch on.

Starfinder seems really fun my group will be running it soon, been very excited to finish making my character.

So why are the demon lords into gay sex? Is this a demonic thing to do or is it just gay in general?
>>

If Paizo taught me anything, it’s that heterosexuality is evil and LGBT is good. It’s why all the greatest heroes and most righteous gods are queer, while the most despicable or troubled are notable for sleeping mostly with the opposite sex.

What are some cool builds I can do for duergar NPCs of level 1 to 6 in PF 1e? My group is up against a bunch of duergar slavers and I want to make some "mini-bosses" for their outposts. I already had a hunter with a giant beetle companion. Curious what other ideas anons have. Just stuff that would make for a fun and engaging encounter for an experienced group of PF 1e players. I also have most of the Duergar taking Ironskin alternate trait as part of their clan, but also to give them frustratingly-high AC to the point that characters will do stuff like grapple or trip with reach weapons and other creative tactics.
>>
Now that PF and SF have moved on to 2e, which was the better final product comparing the 1e versions of Pathfinder to Starfinder?
>>
>>97106249
Starfinder. It had a lot of dumb fuck design ideas (can't buy ships, dumbfuck core rules for space combat, a pants on head retarded economy) however, the actual core combat systems were better, the baked in stamina point system was some good shit for shoving PCs through repeated encounters, and the species options were way more interesting than the race options for Pathfinder. Couple all that with a setting that is a literal universe meaning you can flavor it however the hell you want and you got better final product.

Would it be considered proper etiquette to have my players start a campaign with a Serum of Sex Shift in their inventory?

I'm going to play my first brawler this Sunday, and I'd like some insight as there's so many options

1e - Crimson throne - I decided to go for a middle aged human who loves to fight dirty.

Is Dirty fighting and weapon focus (unarmed) a good choice for starting feats?
Rest of the party is: Fighter, barbarian, cleric and wizard so I'll have chances to flank.. my plan is to go improved dirty trick and maybe even kitsune style.

For the same reason that there are combat wheelchairs, because it’s not about imagining a world where barriers no longer matte and everyone can have fun, but it’s about reminding everyone at the table of your miserable existence and how significant it is to every facet of your identity.
>>
>>97106935
You know what, I'd honestly be okay with combat wheelchairs if they were designed to specifically be used as a handicap in a tournament or combat sport. Like, imagine able-bodied warriors intentionally hampering their movement by being required to sit on combat wheelchairs to test their ability to fight in unfavorable conditions or something along those lines. Do you have enough strength in your upper body to not only slay your foe, but maneuver as well? That would be fun as hell.

The Firebrands were such an embarrassing part of Paizo’s history. Ishii Bunji is par for the course with their writing. Every named Firebrand is either black, LGBT or a Halfling. It was pure SocJus nonsense that felt like Paizo trying desperately to be “with it” during the BLM movement.

Did they ever give a reason why Handwraps of Mighty Blows is an invested item? It seems weird that no other weapon becomes an invested item because you want runes on it. It can't be because enemies can't disarm you since Free-Hand weapons exist that do exactly that.
>>
>>97107907
because they're a worn item instead of a weapon and worn items take investment slots as stupid as it sounds

It does help if you think on it with the idea that technically any weapon-user can also just get an unarmed attack that scales with them and can be used while wielding weapons. By default you can always just kick someone, but also stuff like jaws or tail swipes can easily be obtained and be handy things to use (i.e. Kholo's 1d8 Bite that can gain the Grapple trait) . So in the understanding of "magic items that expand your possible array of options", HoMB is actually pretty good at its job, hence the investment limit. It's not meant to be shitting on Monk and unarmed users in general.

It may not be a GOOD balancing deal, but it is more reasonable the more you think about it.

>>97107190
The Combat Wheelchair debate is always weird because A) the original homebrew was fucked and blatantly overpowered and B) it doesn't HAVE to be a bad look. There are plenty of excuses for PCs to have an issue that magic CAN'T fix, not to an accessible degree (how many Level 1 crippled peasants know a Level 20 Cleric on speed dial?) and characters like mages and rangers would be reasonable to take around. No more than the average Centaur or aquatic PC a party can have. But between how neither Pathfinder or D&D have REAL disability rules but handwaves and they ALWAYS want the aesthetic to go to some obnoxious Fighter or Barbarian or Warlock or other people that being disabled would be a massive detriment, it always feels so shallow and pandering. They can never admit it an aesthetic they are pushing on people, not actual representation.

These guys aren't Johnny Joestar, but hipsters that are no different from that doctor with the literal amputation fetish that chopped his own legs off.

>>97106887
Honestly speaking, I can kinda let that one slide. Ishii there just outright says it's to look cool and battle-worn and prideful (lol). If they were an Orc or Hungerseed, I could totally believe that.

>Honestly speaking, I can kinda let that one slide
Why? Stop letting things slide. That's how we got into this mess. Ishii is a bad character from an embarrassing period of the lore and he didn't earn the right to be anything more than that. The scars are only there because Paizo craves to be relevant for Current Year and that means kowtowing to certain symbols that their audiences demand. They couldn't just outright do a trans flag, so top scars are the next best thing.

It's ridiculous. I've seen more top scars than E-cups in modern tabletop. I've seen more "bash the fash" than "check out this handsome hunk."

I think you aren't wrong in how hypocritical cultural war discussions on representation can be. The average joe is always expected to tolerate ugliness or """"realism""" but also always need to scrutinize fantastical or idealized depiction.
I PERSONALLY don't mind it, I had to actually look up that tranny to actually learn they were trans and that their face weren't just Wayne Reynolds being fucking weird. I could be sold they are so arrogant they want everyone to know their "struggle". But I also get how frustrating it is you must always turn a blind eye to DEI-nonsense but also always "side with the right side of history" whenever something "male gaze-y" comes. I just acknowledge that there's not much you can do here than just get dispropotionately mad, this dude has like 2 paragraphs in the wiki and clearly just here for the socjus funbux. The combat wheelchair is an actual debate, there's nothing to say but "IT'S LITERALLY ME!!!" or "TRANNY TRANNY TROON FAGGOT REEEEEEEEE".

As a person who did actually like pf2e bloodrager and only wished they got to pick sorc bloodlines im a bit conflicted, on the one hand i like that theres a greater insentive to use the spells the class gives you via higher rage damage on the other hand that idea still sucks and i think current bloodrager's mechanically interesting enough and lackluster enough to be a good chassis for that idea.

>The average joe is always expected to tolerate ugliness or """"realism""" but also always need to scrutinize fantastical or idealized depiction.
This is the part that's always frustrating. It's "rules for thee but not for me." I've seen discussions where people fawned over bisexual flags "cleverly" hidden in art, and then many of those same people get passive-aggressively critical with art depicting some girl with huge breasts. And we're just supposed to deal with it. Because calling it out gets you hit, and then nothing happens except getting "outed" as a "bad man." No, I don't have any "real" issue with Ishii Bunji. Not really. Why would I? I'm not a bigot. But I *am* frustrated, and we've been so tempered against being frustrated at "the right side of history" that it always comes out wrong - or worse, it comes out right, and is treated as wrong.

And if you manage to get through all of that? The wordplay, the concise explanation, the examples that make it impossible to wriggle out of the question? You get told, "deal with it." Or, better yet, "Whatever, gooner." Because that's the ultimate truth of the thing; these people own the narrative, they are the established voice of the industry. Privilege is being able to ignore an issue, confident it could or will go away on it's own.

For Swashbuckler's One For All, do you roll the aid when you take the OFA action or during your allies turn before they do that triggered action?
>>
>>97108961

The latter. The Aid roll is part of the reaction, which is triggered by them doing whatever it is you prepared to help them with when you used One For All.

>neither Pathfinder or D&D have REAL disability rules but handwaves
This is partly why disabilities should not be a part of tabletop fantasy at all. Imagine a GM treats a wheelchair-bound cleric realistically, and the douchebag goblin brigade the party is facing runs up and succeeds the grapple check to tilt the chair forward, throwing the cleric out of the chair and making him prone on the ground. That GM would get fucking crucified for being ablist or some other stupid buzzword for making the evil shithead goblins act like evil shithead goblins and exploiting an obvious weakness in a character. It's like you said, they want it to be an aesthetic, and they want every character to implicitly respect their disability-identity, even when said characters would have no fucking reason to.
>>
>mages in wheelchair
There was a 3.5 game where my mage lost his legs and he moved around on the strapped on the back of the barbarian until we could go back to town and regenerate his limbs.
None of this gay wheelchair shit.
>>
>>97109497
Because they are mentally insane sexual degenerates
>>
>>97109630
Yeah, the sorc bloodlines missing was why I added them, but that also meant that the pseudovampire stuff made (even) less sense. I also didn't like the action and health tax song and dance with Harvest Blood and the drained condition.
As for incentive to use spells, I changed the resistance part around that. Still not sure if cantrips should also get full rage damage (probably yes, you're still a martial, even with Hematocritical).
