What is something you like about Deadlands? What is something you hate about Deadlands?
>>97121961>LikeHucksters. Their mini-game to get more spells and powers is fast and they got a good reason to keep their power level hidden.>DislikeFull auto fire. Shooting something once? That's a single bullet. Shooting it twice? It's more difficult to do (fair) but consumed four bullets (total horseshit).
I like it's whole vibe. Supernatural western? Fuck yes!Dislike, I don't like the limited gun options. The 19th century was fucking wild with gun options
Setting's cool.System sucks.
>>97121961Setting is pretty fun, but the metaplot and any named character is shit. I'm running a Deadlands game rn but sort of using my own shit.
>>97122723>19th century was wild with gun optionsI'm gonna agree that you had a lot of options, but I'm going to counter a lot of it was very samey shit. Do you really need a shitload of different stats for a lot of different revolvers?>>97122787>System sucksSavage Worlds is pretty banging for pulpy, action heavy stuff. Sucks an infinite amount of dicks at anything else though. So for chucking dynamite at vampires while a card wizard blasts bunch of banditos with demon energy all during a train robbery? Savage Worlds shines. Doing an investigation to find that train? It's dog shit.
>>97121961I only know the 1st edition. >LikeThe general mix between horror and spaghetti Western, which I liked a lot.>DislikeThe sheer amount of equipment needed to play (poker cards, poker chips of certain colors, paperclips of different colors, 5 or 6 dice of every kind...). Also, single-action guns requiring 2 action cards to shoot instead of 1.
>>97121961>likeThe wound and wind system is one of the best mechanics for representing the effects of being shot I have ever seen without becoming too complicated.>dislikeSavage worlds is a dumb down version of the classic system and it shows, also the retcons by Henslay because of redditors complaining was retarded. >>97124139>single-action guns requiring 2 action cards to shoot instead of 1.That's not true single-action guns have a ROF of 1 and need only a single action card to shoot.
>>97124009>Do you really need a shitload of different stats for a lot of different revolvers?it wasn't just numerous types of revolver there was also:>lever-action shotgun>Springfield rifle, muzzle-loaded or breech-loaded>carbine repeater>cut down double barrel shotgun>.50 Sharps rifle>Maxim gun, Gatling gun etc>Derringer Pocket Pistol>Volcano repeating pistol>blunderbuss>the Nock Gun: fire once, delete everything in a 60km radius, and spend a week reloading. technically period inaccurate but well associated with the West since the Alamo film
>>97124202ROF 1, but Speed 2. Meaning, you needed two action cards. It was the same in Hell on Earth (see pic) that was published after. It might have been corrected after.
>>97124539Yeah, Savage Worlds ruleset did away with the "everything costs an action" element of OG Deadlands because of the length of time it took to do anything in that edition.>Unholster>Aim>Cock hammer>FireThose were four separate instances. Once you did the first two, if the target didn't change, it dropped to two actions (cock, fire) but you had to throw in another action (aim) if you changed targets.I could be wrong about this though as I haven't played it since Hell on Earth first dropped many years ago. It was a prime example of a great setting with pretty retarded rules. Strangely, some people still think it is superior to the Savage Worlds ruleset. I honestly think some people think convoluted or complex rules means a game is deep instead of just being horribly made.
>>97121961Savage worlds works with almost any idea is the nice part. The combat can get clunky at high levels and ranged works better than melee at a certain point. My current dislike is that the whole alternate history setting is getting ruined more and more as time goes on. The whole CFA getting retconned and the weird modern social issues that keep getting added into each new release. One of the reasons realms of cthulhu got cut as a third party product was over some new hire having a shit fit over promoting lovecraft stuff. The company is also filled with people obsessed with modern day politics. No more cheesecake or sword and sorcery inspired stuff anymore. Shane is also a cowardly loser who back pedals on any issue where he can be seen as slightly controversial or right wing. He even threw away friendships with people who were slightly right wing and will jump back and forth over saying violence is bad or apologizing for saying that.
>>97121961>likeHucksters, the bestiary in general>Hatethe general meta plot , it took a step back in Weird West but I still dislike how busy some of the behind the scene stuff is, i mostly ignore it and just have weird surnatural stuff happening. I'm also a bit tired of Savage World, like a lot of the settings for it, I wish they were their own games
>>97121961>What is something you hate about Deadlands? If I say it, the thread will derail until someone further derails it with a question about BBQ.
>>97125114Getting tired of a system is a legit complaint. I personally like a quasi-unified system with a lot of different settings because it is infinitely easier to get a group to play a new setting with a few changes than it is to get them onboard with learning a whole new system for one setting. It's a good idea to have two or three systems that use this design philosophy so you can swap between them whenever you want. Genesys allows for SW and the Genesys specific settings, Savage Worlds has Deadlands, Pathfinder, Holler, Rippers, Rift, and more. BRP also has Cthulhu, Delta Green, and such. The only generic system I would avoid outright is GURPS because that fucker is a toolkit alone with a lot of work involved to even get running with no solid setting foundation.
>>97121961I like its art and the idea of a supernatural western. If I had even one whit of talent, I'd make something with the vibes of Bonanza and Gunsmoke, but with all sorts of magical phenomena.I hate that its company expects money for a product potential buyers would potentially have to alter large portions of; though I guess that's not a mark against Deadlands itself, but its company. In the end, I don't hate it, because TTRPGs are about playing what you and your group wants, and there are ways to get it for free.
>>97121961>What is something you like about Deadlands? The way crits worked and stacked>What is something you hate about Deadlands?Everything elseTerrible thread, 2/10 filler stuff
>>97125555>t. never actually played any of the games listed, so he claims random bullshit about themWhat a fucking waste of good quads
>>97124539Oh I stand corrected the revised edition and 20th anniversary did away with weapon speed hence my incorrect assumption.>>97124919Revised changed that stuff, >Unholster Still an action but you can make a quick draw roll to shoot in the same action you use to unholster your gun. >AimYou can aim at specific body parts or "draw a bead" to get a bonus to hit if you want but its not necessary to shoot. Changing targets does not cost an action. >Cock hammerNo longer an action >FireStill an action.>Strangely, some people still think it is superior to the Savage Worlds ruleset.it is, but only with the revised edition>I honestly think some people think convoluted or complex rules means a game is deep instead of just being horribly madeBy the same token some people think simplified rules make a game better instead of just making the game incredibly shallow. Neither complex or simply rules make a game good or bad it's about the type of stories you generate with them and if you find them fun to play that matters. savage worlds just doesn't let me generate the western stories I want and I don' find it fun to play, but i do with classic Deadlands. It's that simple why some prefer it.
>>97128027I'm running a game of SW deadlands right now and really enjoying it because SW is so dead ass easy to run, but I am interested in running something in the old system some day. Weird West is always going to feel like savage worlds in the old West, but their is something about that fucked up, clunky lookin' older system that I find very intriguing. I imagine it's similar to what people find appealing about slavjank.
>>97121961They retconned out the ConfederacyDISGUSTING
>>97127032I played every system mentioned in my post. It was only four of them. Are you retarded?
