Next game night, suggest that everyone swap decks for some novelty factor.
Give your buddy a deck with lots of interaction. Not a full control list (he won't know how to pilot or win with that) but something like a black deck with 10-15 kill spells.
It's like touching a hot stove, in reverse. You can tell him to run removal but he won't. You need to SHOW him how it FEELS to always have it.

What's a deck you enjoy regardless of winning or losing?
>>
>>97138638
Singleton legacy is fun. I consistently get a turn 3 game winning combo off with my combo deck and it's lots of fun. Assembling the combo and managing to play through counterspells and silences against 3 other players trying to stop me is very satisfying. Also games don't last 2 hours so if someone wins quick we can just reshuffle and start a new game. Battle cruiser metas are fun, but so are high interaction optimized metal. There are so many ways to play magic and different deckstyles to build, that's what makes the game so great.
>>
>>97138780
This is why it's dishonest to say proxies are the problem, it's players that are WAACfags. Tell him to either chill out or leave the playgroup, there's no two ways about it.
>>
>>97138738

>>97138779
That sounds awesome. I'd love to play with you.
>>
>>97138780
Oh hey it's another "proxies aren't the problem, stupid assholes are the problem" post. My group proxies nearly everything between $1-$10 and has no problem proving the cards they proxied are that cheap with scryfall on our phones. We don't run *any* cards over $10, unless they raise in price after we added them to our decks. Haven't had a problem in 8 years
>>
>>97138780
Honestly you probably should have just allowed people to freely proxy whatever purely mana-giving lands they want from the beginning without the expectation of buying them like other cards. Your friend is partly right in that true duals are expensive due to artificial scarcity rather than power, and if it's just 1 or 2 they don't make that much of a difference to whether a deck wins or not. But a 10x more expensive mana base than the rest of the table is a distinct advantage and he's being wilfully ignorant if he won't admit that

Kinda too late to establish that rule that now that your imbecile pal went on an anime training arc and torpedoed his financial wellbeing on cardboard though, so good luck having that conversation

He was part of the group that only wanted to proxy things we would buy, otherwise people would do things like Tabernacle and Bazaar of Baghdad, and other very powerful and expensive RL cards or at least that was his concern. I want to build this and it seems really fun, but a comment I saw from someone said that as soon as you go to transform, you're gonna get removed. this sets back your entire gameplan 2 turns minimum and you're kinda fucked.
now you can say that about a lot of commanders, but this one specifically i think it does get fucked over by being removed before it can do its thing.
is this comment right or overreaction?

Well, Abigale speaks a form of sign that uses feather motions in place of facial expressions–puffed out, slicked back, slightly raised, etc. And yes, I made a mask of construction paper feathers and modeled expressions for myself until I was confident she could make herself understood.

Tournament edh and cEDH are almost entirely separate formats despite everyone running the same decks and meta. cEDH at an LGS is very fun and to the point. TEDH is a bunch of tryhard grinder faggots, most of whom have YouTube channels, politicking, gaslighting and angle shooting each other trying to get draws until they can get to top 4 where they agree to split the prize pool before the final game begins. If tournaments, youtuber faggots and prizes aren't involved, cEDH is great.

The cedh influencer golden sabertooth politicked and yapped his way to an 11 hour finals match at a cedh tournament. Towards the end he began begging the other players to give him the win so he could catch his morning flight. The other players were intimidated and awed by golden sabertooth's "celebrity status" because he draws cEDH playmats that are popular, so no one told him to shut the fuck up or call a judge to make him shut up due to his politicking and yapping. The game lasted too long for the YouTube live stream to record the match, so it was lost and has since become the stuff of legend.

Susan + War is gimmicky but effective.
Susan + Tenth is a great mix of big mana and outlet and has great colours, but I feel like blue just doesn't add enough to make it worth the extra nonbasics. Counterspells are okay but you don't want to cascade into them. Big blue creatures are okay but there aren't any that are amazing enough to justify it.
RG is easy to build, easy to play, cheap to put together, and you don't run out of basics to ramp out even when you've got 20 of them on the field already. Adding a third colour just muddies it.

Goreclaw is a ramp piece that goes in Xenagod. Xenagod is a fucking catapult that slings bombs and topdecks at your opponents face he's so much fun.
>>
>>97139896
Kona bounces back better than Goreclaw does to removal basically. Goreclaw dies and you're spending 6 mana to get your discount bear back on the board with limited mana to take advantage of that discount in the same turn. As long as you control a vehicle Kona can plop out something from your hand the same turn it comes out with no further investment even if you're spending all your mana to get it back on the board. I like Goreclaw quite a bit and it can definitely has more potential for explosive turns, I just think Kona's stronger.

i wonder if wotc will ever do conditional bans
i'd be perfectly fine with thoracle being banned in non-mono blue decks
>>
>>97139938
better, but partners aren't a particular problem because people would just choose the next available generic color access that might just coincidentally have its own compact wincons. but even still, thoracle is hardly necessary, the cases where you get a deck victory with labman you probably have infinite mana and a full hand, meaning no one's going to be able to actually capitalize on what makes labman inferior to thoracle. the problem is blue is too good with its density on the stack with flash enablers and overly flexible removal options even on landed permanents thanks to fucking floodmaw, otawara, vapors, or cyc rift.

are non miirym/ur-dragon dragon decks based or cringe?
>>
>>97139930
They're both fun in different ways. I think the way I would word it is that they are both explosive and they are both good for a long game in different ways.

Goreclaw you get creatures out faster, absolutely, but because she gives trample she's still incredibly relevant in the late game. Also the discount is always good, though it's definitely more significant early.

Xenagos absolutely takes a little more effort to get started but he's incredibly sticky and the access to Red means he has a more diverse range of threats. Once you get up and running you can send something extremely threatening towards someone every turn. For him, the haste gives explosiveness. You can go from having no creatures on the board(but having Xenagos) to sending a 40/40 towards a player instantly. It's very scary to be on the receiving end of that.

They're both great decks, but I'm biased towards Xenagos because its my oldest commander deck and a card that I pulled from a pack myself, I've always had fun with it.

I built Goreclaw because I think mono color is extremely underrated and underplayed in general. It's satisfying to take down 3+ color piles with only a single color. Goreclaw is awesome

by that logic you can't play yargle and multani with xenagos as you now have a 36 power creature out of nowhere with 2 cards
>>
>>97140337
>>97140340
Specifically, people are usually upset by hand combos.
Most people don't get upset at craterhoof or moonshaker in the same way they get upset about combo, because the pieces were visibly on the board and they had a chance to interact.
When someone plays two cards from hand and says everyone takes infinite damage and they win, it feels a bit anticlimactic.
There's also a knowledge component. Winning through combat damage is clear and obvious. I can see Ghalta about to take a bite out of my life bar. When someone plays an untapper artifact and ramps a bit with it, and then a few turns later they go infinite with it, the loss came not from a lack of board awareness or threat assessment, but from an interaction between two specific cards the player just didn't know about.

A lot of decks just aren't equipped to handle combo wins, and combo wins are the most effective way to win so it's generally considered a high-power archetype which also makes it unwanted at lower power tables, even if it's a low powered combo deck.
>>
>Scryfall is currently offline for maintenance.
>>
>>97140385
I feel like I would enjoy commander more if they made changes to infinite combos. Something like the number of times two cards can cycle in a combo cant be more than 2+ the number of cards involved (not including mana resources). But that just overly complicates shit.

i'm asking genuinely because coming from other TCGs this sort of explosive decks (I wouldn't hesitate to call it combo in other games) are what I enjoy the most over more aggro / control decks, but if that counts as a no-no, then i'd rather play something else

Entirely depends on the playgroup. If it's a group that doesn't like combo wins, you can soften the blow by babying them a little bit. Give them a heads up if a card can combo to kill the table immediately, even if you don't necessarily have that card in hand. Don't play two cards that can win you the game on the spot if it's not something they could reasonably interact with (ie give them a turn cycle at least). If you can win the game on your next turn, let them know. Yes, this makes the game harder for you, but that's only because you're giving players meta knowledge that they might not have. Knowledge that a more advanced player would be expected to have. And honestly, it feels better to win because you played well, more than because your opponents just played poorly.

If you ignore everything else, just understand this:
Commander is the casual format for retard babies.

You should be playing to have fun, not playing to win. Yes, winning is fun, but sometimes you need to be the bigger man and accept responsibility for other people's fun too. If you know you can win the game with a card in your hand and it's unlikely anyone at the table could deal with it, choosing not to play that card and letting everyone else duke it out while you sit back knowing you could have won is, genuinely, an option. Sometimes it's better to just give the other guys a win once in a while to give them an ego boost.

Star wars is completely dead at this point. Disney killed all interest in it and made it lame and gay slop for 40 year old wine aunties. Obi Wan, Asohka, Skeleton Crew and the Acolyte were the death knell that completely murdered the IP after Last Jedi drove away 50% of the fanbase (no one watched Andor, it doesn't matter how good it allegedly is). Game companies are now openly calling Star wars a "toxic IP" in public meetings now. Disney killed Star Wars just like they killed capeslop.

How on earth could the character that sacrifices creatures to create big skeletons with menace possibly synergize with the tribe that specializes at returning from the graveyard?
Are you a fucking ass? Do you need a creature to say "TRIBE GET +1/+1 AND DRAW A CARD WHEN TRIBE ENTERS" for you to see the synergy? Stick to precons, retard. You're somehow the first edh player to be too stupid to play tribal slop of all things. Build a landfall deck or something.

>>97140958
Skeletons specialize in leaving the graveyard, either to hand or directly to the battlefield. The overwhelming majority of them are in black. However, there are some good pieces for them in red and green too. The following commanders could all work pretty well as Skeleton commanders:
>Syr Konrad
>Grist, Voracious Larva
>Kotis, Sibsig Champion
>Teval, the Balanced Scale
>Celes, Rune Knight
>Amzu, Swarm's Hunger
>Gut // Agent of the Iron Throne
>Gut // Cultist of the Absolute

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem' gets an A on ...
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem grossed approximately $181.9 million worldwide
>>
>>97141255
gut doesn't want skeletons to sac, she wants tokens and artifacts
>>
>>97141335
It only cost $70 million to make dumbass, thats like a good marvel movie percentage return
>>
>>97141353
$110 profit worldwide is by no means a massive hit. And $70 million production costs don't include marketing. It was a modest success at best.
>>
>>97141376
Not 70m production, 70m total
>>
>>97141378
$110 million profit is still a relativw nothing burger, not a massive hit like you're trying to spin it. A massive hit is Lilo and Stitch making a billion, or James Cameron's Avatar slips making two billi
>>
>>97141378
>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem had a production budget of approximately $70 million, with marketing (Prints & Advertising) costs estimated at around the same amount, totaling roughly $140 million in combined expenses before accounting for overhead or distribution, making it a relatively modest-budget animated film that proved profitable due to strong merchandising and streaming revenue.

Drain spells must be the lamest win condition there is. Last game some guy played only ramp spells and no blockers. What kind of question is that? They are not supposed to print cards for your decks. They should print cards that are interesting and make you think, where you have to make them work. Do you people actually enjoy these brain-dead value cards that are tailored for specific decks? You really want yet another landfall staple card in gruul? You want yet another goblin or elf lord?

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if they do that one of these days. Unless I'm misreading things it looks like the most recent new skeleton was Ozox which is pushing it nearly two years ago so it's clear they just don't give a shit about the tribe. Only issue is that this could have ripple effects making the few decent skeleton cards like Skeletal Swarming almost too much of a boost to zombies.

>>
>guy has 3 creatures, Razaketh, the Foulblooded, avacyn, and his commander kaalia which is unprotected (lol)
>Another player has a Stone of Erech
>Cast and exile effect on his commander
>He sacs it to tutor, in response to him tutoring, I cast sudden edict.
>He spends 5 fucking minutes trying to react to a split second card before he finally sacs his foul blooded to the edict.
I'm going to fucking go insane.

this makes skeletons more playable in standard than edh

>children dont play mtg
Then it's for chuds and chuds dont like gay shit
Either way it's easy to understand why UW is worthless and why UB exists in the first place
>>
>>97143188
it's quite funny to counter a split second card with a morph creature
>>
>>97143209
Yes, but that's like literally the only thing that can and he didn't have blue.
>>
>>97143151
changeling "tribal tribal" commanders, so Morophon or Ur-Dragon
they think they have this cute and quirky idea but in reality its just Slivers in disguise

AI tends to write like this if you ask it to write an intelligent character.
Not accusing this flavor text of being AI; just pointing out an observation since I use AI writing a lot for solo roleplay.

I can forgive nonsense terms like parageometrics or whatever
What's more jarring is, ofc, how hard wotc virtue signals
>guys hasbro has no money what do we do to keep this dead weight afloat? What demo has the moolah?
>i know! Let's pander to blacks! And in the worst ways possible too!
Lol
>>
>>97141522
Have you never fantasized about what an ideal card for your deck would look like?
It doesn't need to be Rhystic Tithe levels of bullshit. If lorwyn has a 1-drop green fairy rogue with flying I'll basedpog because my deck wants that so bad.

Black nerds are the only niggas with money so it makes sense
>>
>>97143275
They aren't pandering to blacks. They are aware their efforts may attract a small percentage of black players, bit in reality they are pandering to the mostly white left audience who are the ones who will buy all of these "inclusive cards" and now won't attack them endless in public forums for "lack of diversity and inclusiveness."

I think the real problem I have with Zimone is the problem I also have with Aminatou: I have no idea who the fuck they are. All of their cards are just them being brainy (or in Ammy's case, cryptic) without any real understanding of their goals or personalities. Like I'm pretty fucking bad at knowing anything about characters anymore, but I kinda have a feel for who people like Kaito and The Wandering Emperor are from what they say and what's said about them on cards, and similar things can be said of characters like Winter. I don't know SHIT about Eldraine, but I get who Rowan and Will are because you can get it off their fucking cards.

Like somehow Zimone was all over duskmourne and I have no idea what the fuck she did at all. I'm not going to read a bunch of short stories to try a piece it together either if she's not interesting to me to begin with because all she appears to be is the black kid on cards that talks like a smartass.
>>
>>97143297
They're also pandering to me since I think she's pretty hot at least before duskmorne
>>

Magical negro stereotype.
They should read some Stephan King novels if they are going to pull the trope so much, maybe they could then at least reach his level of character designs with them, though that's not saying much King barely fleshes them either but they look like anime protagonists compared to what WotC does with them.

>ninja
>empress
>king
Kaito and co. are easy enough to understand because of their jobs we automatically think good cool shit about them
But not only is a professor inherently less cool zimone also happens to be presented as a know it all nerd and everyone has had a run in with that kind of person in highschool, throwing you off from the fantasy; nobody likes those people, not even fellow nerds

Dr. Sheldon Cooper is one of the most beloved fictional characters in the past 20 years and that's exactly what he is.
>Imagine liking the Big Gay Theory
Not the point, a lot of people do like the archetype, if it's well presented, but yes, Zimone is not.

Image limit reached so fuck it.
