Didn't you know, Anon? Everything needs to be ironic. Only losers like things sincerely.
>>
>Using classes.
>>
>>97141412
Class is non-diegetic. You should separate player knowledge from character knowledge. Not everyone is out to get you, sometimes silly ideas are just silly ideas. You know, fluff.

Hi, nogames.
>>
My character is a monk who thinks he's a rogue.

No one can really tell the difference.
>>
>>97141282
That's nonsensical, of course. Classes are descriptive. If you behave like a rogue, then you are one. No one "is" a rogue or a barbarian. Your class choices are a reflection of how your character acts in the fiction. They don't dictate anything.
>>
>>97145533
Yes, obviously. Retard.
>>
>>97141825
No. Your character chooses his class from a floating video game menu at the adventurer guild at the age of 14.

...yeah? a "rogue" is a generic word that roughly means "knave", "vagrant" or "ruffian" in a way and "barbarian" is either or both synonymous of "savage", "uncultured" and "stranger from uncivilized lands". That seems a sensible character concept to me.

Are you talking about something specific that happened during a game you were playing? You need to give some context here. I know whatever syndrome you have prevents you from understanding this, but your experiences aren't universal. Nobody knows what you're talking about if you don't explain it.
>>
>>97151426
name a character concept that a miserable loser like you won't think is cringe.

A white male fighter named John Dungeonssouls

>Name a character concept that a loser like you wont think is cringe.
Something earnest.
Something genuine.
Something that actually feels like its a part of the world and the party and doesn't just feel like you made something for Reddit upvotes that will become boring, stale, and grating after a month.

Also fuck shit like
>>97153481

There is something between Teehee Macaroni the Penis Wizard and John McFighterguy and I'm tired of disingenuous retards acting like that doesn't exist.
>>
couldn't name anything LOL
>>
>>97153589
Nah; John Mcfighterguy is perfect.
Starting with a "generic" character concept keeps the focus on what you actually do in game.

You start out as nobody; that's thematically appropriate, because your character hasn't done anything yet at campaign start.

John Mcfighterguy has his story ahead of him.
Whereas the most interesting part of Snowflake MacTwinkletoes the bisexual Tiefling druid's adventure happened three pages into their backstory that nobody read.

Don't forget:
>My character is a bear that pretends to be human
>I need two character sheets because my character has two personalities
Usually when someone says "character concept" over "character backstory", its a sign that they're going for a joke character.

>>97152959
>>97154141
Nta, but it is not that hard to do what >>97153589 mentioned.
You already have a race, class, and background.
There is plenty of fantasy media to steal from.
You just need a goal and some attachments.
I'll give an example for a Human Fighter Champion:
>John McFighterguy was an ordinary castle guard that was assigned the night shift.
>One day, on his day off, he encountered a mysterious beggar who offered a "treasure map" for food.
>John accepted the offer, even though he didn't believe in the map, he just wanted to help him.
>The "map" was a broken compass, John didn't think much until it glowed during his shift and pointed in a direction.
>John heads out to discover the secrets to his compass and find whatever treasure it may, or may not, hold.
The beggar and some people he left behind can be NPCs. John can be a guard in any city the DM has in his world. The mechanics of the compass and where it points is up to the DM.

Is it seriously too much to ask that people take their own character seriously?

I apologize, when I mean John Mcfighterguy, I mean someone who just genuinely puts in zero effort.

Making something in broad strokes that's generic because you want to see that person grow mechanically and narrative is fine. Because, to my previous point, such a character, conceptually, is a part of the world and the party, and in that grow you are allowing growth and change.
